Working my way through all your videos. I love that you always show how real it is and am glad you always model good choices and safety first.

Here in British Columbia there is a long list of solo hikers that have been missing for years. Usually loggers eventually find some remains. Better to live to fight another day.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Cliff you got close enough especially given those swampy conditions and approaching thunderstorms. It certainly looked as though it was a beautiful forest up where you were at.
I used to operate a forest fire lookout tower here in New York’s Adirondack Mountains. My summit elevation was 3,597 ft. and the lookout facility consisted of the steel lookout tower, a ground cabin and a couple of outbuildings. A mountaintop is not the place to be during a thunderstorm without having substantial shelter. It is nearly impossible to adequately impress upon someone exactly what a thunderstorm is like on top of a mountain with lightning shooting horizontally all over the place at knee high level.

Cliff, good choice. I've used poor judgement on a few hikes and each time I regretted it. One time, lost my backpack in a fast flowing river; in it was my rain jacket, food, water, flashlight, matches, tinder kit, and the worst, my topo map of the area and compass. Long story short, it got dark, rained and wandered for about 5 hours before getting to a road. Wound up getting sick and loosing a bunch of gear.
    Better safe than sorry.

I grew up in Wyoming County. My 11th and 12th grade English teacher (who was from Berks County) said that Wyoming was the Delaware word for "Gates of Hell". He just never understood the countryside. I'm a bit surprised you did not encounter any poisonous snakes. One thing you will always encounter on Route 87 are the friendliest people in the world.

Would be a good one for the winter, swamps would be frozen and no leaves on the trees.

I was thinking the same, late Fall or Winter when it might be dryer or frozen over.

At 2352 feet there is some views in that terrain. My house is at 3,360' but high terrain blocks my views. The house with the highest elevation in my subdivision, 4,920' has the best views. The highest mountain in my county, Boise County, Idaho is located in the Sawtooth Wilderness area, is Mt. Cramer @ 10,715 feet. This is a far cry from from hiking up to _Bauer Rock on South Mountain_ Allentown, Pa @ 1, 042 ' as a kid.

Worlds End is a beautiful park. Sunset at the Canyon Vista is awesome!! The Double Run Nature Trail is a nice hike. The Park Rangers recommended that trail fir hiking since there are some nice waterfalls along the way. Only one is named, Cottonwood Falls, the others are small and the scenery is nice along the way. That trail is at the Chapel so it’s easy to find. One thing with Worlds End, a good amount of Rattlesnakes. Enjoy your time there.

I could really feel your disappointment not being able to reach the high point but you really put in a tremendous effort. Hope you reach 50k subscribers real soon. Looks very quiet and peaceful up there. Thanks for the video.

A great walk for you Cliff, love the trees now that it is your Summer there. It didn't appear that the trail is not used as much maybe not as popular as the other places you have been. Thanks for sharing!

Always better to be safe than take chances. Nice try. Mount Ararat at 2657ft. in Wayne county should be a good one. Looks like maybe you can drive to the top. Good luck with that one. Be safe and stay well.

Seems odd that there are swamps at the top of a mountain. Usually, those are found in low spots.

I find it kinda funny that the water sits UP on the mountain. Would think it would drain to lower ground. That plateau 's bedrock shaped like a bowl?

    • @1GirlieGirl
      @1GirlieGirl 3 роки тому +1

Yes, as Cliff described, our mountains often times have plateaus and then higher peaks surrounding. I once got lost next to a stream on top of a mountain on an unmarked gravel logging road on my way to Niagara Falls. Gorgeous but scary.

Thank you for posting this video. I have been doing alot of research on this area. There seems to be some very interesting sights to be seen on that mountain top but very little information available. Your experience confirms conditions there are extremely difficult, and one must be fully prepared to tackle all that the terrain entails. You truly are deep into the Pennsylvania woods... Would love to know if you were using the all trails app for this or following some other trail guide.

    • @thewanderingwoodsman7227

Like you said, there isn't much info on this area. Folks do hike up there and there are some trails posted on 'all trails' but many of those trails are not actual trails, just a bushwack someone did. I mostly looked at the sat. images to determine where trails would be. I figured it would be swampy up there, but wasn't prepared for what was up there.....I think beavers are at work up there.
