Kanekalon braiding fibers - typically jumbo braid form, are the best fiber to use for creating synthetic dreadlocks.
You could use wefted clip ins long as the clip ins are synthetic (preferably kanekalon) and the weft is thick enough. Typically in order for the weft to be thick enough, you'd have to layer 3 pieces of wefts together - otherwise dreads on a weft would be spaced too far apart in order to get a good thickness.

Honestly, this method once you get it down is the fastest at making well formed dreads. I have yet to burn my hands, but I totally get the paranoia. Because of the size of the full size iron and the damp towel to create the steam, you can cover larger areas more quickly.

With a steamer, you have a 1-2 inch coverage, with a flat iron about the same, but with a full size iron 4-6 inches in one step. I'm terribly impatient, so this method quickly became my favorite. :) That said, I do use steam or a flat iron to finish the ends though. Those seem best for detail work IMO. :)

Not typically. The steam forces through and creates a fairly hearty seal. If they aren't held until they are cool, the seal wont be as strong. But it won't just open up from sleeping - it would have to be heat related and definitely over time.

love your videos! do you have any about installing synthetic dreads that are very natural looking? natural colors--and how to make them look like they're growing out of your head as opposed to seeing the sections/braids?

This was a pretty great tutorial but I have some questions. First off, what setting do you have the iron on? I know that temp can make a big difference between frizzy, well seales, and scorched. Also, instead of using a wet towel, couldn't you just use the steam setting on the iron? I would think the steam setting on the iron would be a lot less.....soggy for lack of a better word.

Just out of sheer curiosity, do those dreads ever come undone at any point? Like, after sleeping on em for too long or something?

If you go to our UA-cam channel and search for "weft dreadlocks" and "backcombing" you should find helpful videos to create dreads using synthetic clip ins. Then when you are ready to seal them, then go back to using the iron method. :)

So when making twist n seal, which method do you feel works best: steam iron and wet towel, boiling hot water in pot or a steamer machine? Thank you!

They will all work great. The iron and wet towel is probably the easiest.

Usually somewhere in the upper middle - I don't pay much attention to settings - you'll know when your iron pushes the wet towels into steam quickly. I gauge it by that, which only takes a few seconds to dial in.

They will naturally loosen up with wear and time.

Do the dreads end up rough/scratchy to the touch?

They may be a bit stiff, but you can do a hot water dip on them to soften them up.

I'm not familiar with that brand, but most likely that would be just fine. It doesn't need to be anything specific or fancy. :)

No, it totally doesn't. BUT you need to make sure you are using the wet towels - if you set the iron down ON the dread, yeah... you are going to be in trouble. ;)
