    What temperature setting do you use for the iron? Does it matter?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  2 роки тому

      You will need it hot enough to produce steam when you press the iron onto the towel. The steam is what is going to penetrate the core of the dread and allow for you to seal them.

      You may want to add a bit of backcombing and yes, leave them a little looser so they fluff up a bit. It's always a balance. :)

    What temperature should the water be you use to wet the cloth? Hot, warm, cool or cold? Which works better for sealing the dread?

      @doctoredlocks  5 років тому +1

      Cold is fine. The iron will turn it into steam :)

      I kinda feel like a dumb dumb down, that was a total common sence answer. Guess I just made it painfully obvious how new I am to the art of making dreeds lol

      Aww, don't feel dumb! It's a new world for you and will take some time to pick up the ins and outs. Don't hesitate to ask questions in your journey.

      I have crocheted dreads permanent install. But the ends are so frizzy.... I will try this.

    Do you recommend sealing your dreads after every wear?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  5 років тому

      If they need it, you can definitely seal in between uses :)

    I'm making my own and wondering why after I sealed them they expand and get very fuzzy and fluffy!?

    • @doctoredlocks
      @doctoredlocks  6 років тому +1

      This happens when you heat the outside enough to seal, but the heat doesn't make it to the core. Dry heat methods are harder to get to the core - steam can penetrate further inside without scorching the outer fibers. If you are using the towel and iron method, make sure your towel is wet enough to produce steam, that it has enough time to penetrate through the whole dread, and that you hold the twist until it is done cooling. :) If you need more tips, you can send a video of what you are doing to us and we can help you figure out more specifically what is happening. :)

      Dreadandsensi. it's kind of genius really have dreads without the commitment of knotting up your own hair and never getting them out without cutting it out.

      What is a shame is you waisting time (yours and us) to watch, assimilate the process (when you already have a particular mindset) and leave a comment. We all have and prefer different styles of hair, life would be so much boring if we were all the same way 🌹
