    Man, you fell from heaven. I just bought a logitech C922 yesterday, but I still was not happy with the quality. So I started looking for devices to connect my G7 to the computer and I found Corsair Elgato Cam Link 4k. Then I searched a video for a review for that Elgato Cam Link, and found yours. And by chance, you have a G7, which is my camera, and a logitech webcam just like mine, and I had just installed the OBS Studio Software. Perfect match. Thanks, man.

I'll let you know as soon as I have them. But I've been testing the Logitech with the OBS software and it's a lot better now. When I stream I'll let you know how it went. I bought an Elgato HD60 S and then found out it will not work with my 2018 MacBook Pro. Nice one Andrew. So I guess if you have a mic attached to the camera, you could use that inside of a mic connected to the computer. The only concern I'd have is how long the Cam Link is and weather that could put strain on the usb connection.

    • @AndrewK
      @AndrewK  5 років тому

      Yes! You could have a mic attached to the camera itself! The cam link isn't that long but it comes with the extension cable, and you can get LONG HDMI connection cables, so I would say it's up to the one you order! :D

  • @GordIsman
    @GordIsman 5 років тому +1

    What a great video Andrew! Well presented! I use a C920 still but am considering using my DSLR but not sure I can get clean HDMI output. Q: by using the adapter battery plugin, how long can you run a stream for without interruption? Do the 20-30 min limitations constraints of non-live video shots where you write to a memory card apply here?

    • @AndrewK
      @AndrewK  5 років тому +1

      Hey Gord thanks for watching great question! Depends the DSLR, but basically when you are using it with an HDMI out, there is no recording limit. It's using your camera as a video source meaning like a webcam it's based on how long you use it! Also when you use it as HDMI out you aren't recording to memory card, but depending where your camera is it's streaming to that :D I hope that helps!

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman 5 років тому +1

      So, the 20-30 min. limit is more a file size writing limitation - that's what I recall, and so, by what you are saying, there is no limit with the stream solution you are sharing. I've heard many talk about cameras getting very hot... so, I guess there's another vulnerability which would be unique to each camera.

    • @AndrewK
      @AndrewK  5 років тому

      It is a file size writing limitation! My camera hasn't got hot, but it's also dependent what you're doing with it, and how long you're streaming! You can check if your camera would work Here: www.elgato.com/en/gaming/cam-link/camera-check

    I bought Cam Link 4K after considering buying something used or off
    aliexpress, but I though that I should go with a popular brand that
    everyone is using for customer support, reliability and software
    updates. I bit the bullet and spent 120 EUR - the cheapest I could find.
    Now I think that I should had went for aliexpress stuff.
    I tried to
    make it work on Windows 10 and MacOS using all different combination of
    USB 3.0 ports, externally powered USB 3.0 hub without any luck. I tried
    using two cameras: Canon M50 and Canon 7D. After receiving a first email
    from support team I gave them all the details: computer specs, USB
    ports, sent a log file, filmed a demonstration video. Now I have
    received a second reply and the guy didn't even bother to read my report
    and check out the video. He suggested that I try webcamera app in the
    operating systems as though Elgato Game Capture HD was not necessary
    supposed to work with the product. I will wait for their answer and
    probably will have to return the item. I'm surprised at all those
    positive reviews online! Maybe I have to make my own to make people
    aware of my experience.

      Look up, Google search. Canon's software, your cameras creators. Beta streaming software. Canon's created a way to stream without a cam link:)

    Great except not everyone uses OBS infact a lot of people who will have purchased this device will not have purchased it for game streaming. The fact you did not even put OBS in the title of the video and then only cover using the device with that software demonstrates a lack of awareness of uses for this device.

    • @AndrewK

      This video has a clear focus as stated in the title. It's a focus on using a DSLR or mirrorless camera to stream. I bring up OBS because it's free. I was clear from the title the intention of this video. Even all of elgatos marketing focuses on making your camera a Webcam with the camlink 4K so I'd say I just focused on what I use it for, and there are other videos for that use.

    Won't a PC see the Cam Link as a webcam?
