Hi Andrew, if I just wanted to screen record a tutorial and have my face in it, could I just press record on my camera and screen record at the same time? In order to save time on editing and stuff, would you say it would be better to use the cam link?
If using OBS you could attach it to your camera, and in theory it could come through obs with the camlink, but then you're using the built in preamp of the camera. If You can connect it to a computer I would do that, but can't say I have used a Rode Wireless go 2 like that. I also don't have the mic. However, you can always reach out to elgato for more help!

Andrew, I use the T7i my webcam and don't know how to get rid of the AF frame that shows up on the screen? I know I can switch from AF to MF on the lens, however that looses the focus. Do you have any tricks in your bag?
Do you offer any consulting? I’m using the same camera and Camlink 4k but I get some visual noise (pixel static?) and I’m trying to figure out why. I’d pay you for your time of course if you’re interested.
Hey SweatyVanHalen... I don't do consulting for things like this. I can invite you to my discord and we can try to figure it out through text chat, but other than that your best bet would be Elgato support. Thank you for commenting, sorry I can't offer more :/
Hi, would I be able to use the 4K Cam Link efficiently (i.e. to record video from any HDMI source) if I plug it into a 3.1 (Data transfer only) USB port on my laptop?
currently using the EOS Rebel T6. Says it's compatible. However, with everything installed, all I get is a black screen. Any thoughts on what to fix? My pc says the camlink4k is plugged in.
I stream with a Canon EOS 80D compatible with Cam Link 4K. When I connect my HDMI cable, the LCD screen remains black ... I cannot have a preview of what is filming before going to live. Can you tell me how to solve this problem please?
Yes, I use OBS. I would like to be able to go from one scene to another but with access to the feed from my camera to check the framing, the focus, etc. before going to live. This can be done if the display on the LCD screen was running at the same time ? Tank you very much !
Please help, I have the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G80 + 12-60mm Lens". and it’s not picking up my camera on my computer I’m using obs and I’m not getting no picture :( getting really frustrated
Did you make sure your cameras firmware is up to date? Same with obs? I'd also check if obs is too. I'm not elgato support and recommend reaching out to elgato support. It worked for me and others and without knowing your pc and specs it's hard :(
If I don't want to store the data, can I use the camera without any storage device at all (sd card, ssd, or other)? What If I stream live for hours and I only have a tiny sd card in the camera but I don't want to store the data on it (or anywhere else for that matter)?
The offset range I gave should work, but every camera is different. If you can I'd recommend reaching out to cannon directly as they would know more than I on their cameras. :/
Can this also take 4K in but output into the laptop as 1080p? (Windows 10 64 bit.) I don't need 4K input to laptop for the likes of Zoom. Thanks. Or else, I was looking at the HD 60S+. Thanks in advance for any help. Liked.

I have the same camera and I just purchased the Elgato Cam Link, but there is a lot of video noise (grain) and I can't seem to get rid of it. Any ideas please? I tried searching online but couldn't find anything.
@@AndrewK Turns out it was just bad lighting haha! The grain is still present, but there's very little of it. Despite all that, I don't think the Elgato was worth the purchase. I have a generic capture card and the difference between the two does not justify the price difference in my opinion. I'd understand a $50 difference but in my case it was $150 AUD difference. After an hour-long dilemma I think I'll return it. I don't really need it, I think the one I have will suffice. But thank you for the response!
Hey Andrew, Quick question for you... I want to use the Canon SL3 for live streaming and web conferences. Legato says their cam link products are not compatible with the SL3 because the SL3 does not have an unlimited run-time due to this it will turn itself off to save power after a certain time of inactivity. Can you tell me what hook-up device you use to connect the SL3 to computer to facilitate live streaming?
I have the cannon SL1, and when I tried to use it it would shut off, and had issues working. I can't really speak to your camera since I don't know it. However, Elgato is active in their support, and I'd recommend that. :)
I haven't bought the Elgato Camlink yet, I'm still gathering information on similar devices. I use Corel VideoStudio Pro, will my software be able to live capture with this setup?
@@AndrewK Is not, is so strange I checked OBS and nothing. Is on the camera, as soon as aI plug the cable it gives me a warning. Something about autofocus would be temporary degraded when 4K is downscaling to 1080 via HDMI output. I use 3 different computers and even my sons G7 and it says the same thing. Maybe the length of the cable? Is a 3.8 meters cable.
SO i got a question from which i cant find the answer. lets say you record natively in your camera(video A) and then you record your camera from stream.(video B). video B always has way more noise, is it the cameras live preview settings? cause its not as clear. now if i hit record on camera, the stream quality goes up also and it is the same. is there anyway around having to hit record and retaining the same exact quality?
Is there any way for focus to be to be saved as default for when i turn on my camera? I don't have to do this focus lock every time I want to turn on and shoot a video using this as a webcam. I'm always in the same position, and don't want to have to "refocus" every time.
So I bought the cam link and plugged it in to both my computer and my canon eos 1dx ii and my computer is recognizing another camera but the screen is blank like it's not getting any info from my camera. The camera is on and I even tried hitting record to see if that would start the stream from my camera to my computer but it did not. Any suggestions?
Andrew - do you have to use an external mic with the CamLink 4k? I cannot get the system to pick up any audio from my camera audio (Rode VideoMic)... I was thinking that using the hdmi out it would pick up the audio as well... but maybe not. Thanks in advance for any assist!

After the time the picture freezes and no longer moves by itself. I have to change the scene or slide the camera on / off to get a picture that freezes again. Great except not everyone uses OBS infact a lot of people who will have purchased this device will not have purchased it for game streaming. The fact you did not even put OBS in the title of the video and then only cover using the device with that software demonstrates a lack of awareness of uses for this device.
This video has a clear focus as stated in the title. It's a focus on using a DSLR or mirrorless camera to stream. I bring up OBS because it's free. I was clear from the title the intention of this video. Even all of elgatos marketing focuses on making your camera a Webcam with the camlink 4K so I'd say I just focused on what I use it for, and there are other videos for that use.

Use the link in the description of the video to see if it's compatible.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have a question and maybe you can help me since you really seem to know your stuff! So, I bought a Elgato Cam link 4k and connected it successfully so I can use my Sony FDR AX33 as a webcam in Zoom and Skype ... BUT: for some reason it does not work on Screencast-o-matic or Active Presenter (any screen capturing software) - it is listed but when I want to choose it, it does not work and shows no video. I have the Elgato cam link not open anywhere else ... I really don't know what to do. Do you have any help?

Hey TESSA Thank you! Are you using the camlink 4K? 😄
hello andrew you made a beautiful tutorial congratulations.
do you think I could use this interface in such a configured setup?
notebook lenovo z500 i7 cpu quad core intel 2.3ghz 8gb ssd nvidia geforce gt635m 2gb possible video sources lumix gx80 - olympus om-d em-5 mk1
and I also have old hdv models like Panasonic AG-HMC151E and the Sony HDR-HC3.
Also I'd like to understand which video editing graphics software and to stream online are compatible with the interface?
recently I purchased a very interesting software that automatically removes backgrounds without having the need for the green screen let's talk about xsplit vcam it would be wonderful that it was compatible.

Hi Andrew, if I just wanted to screen record a tutorial and have my face in it, could I just press record on my camera and screen record at the same time? In order to save time on editing and stuff, would you say it would be better to use the cam link?
But when I use camlink as videos capture device then without recording it gives black output
That doesn't happen with mine I would reach out to elgato
Hello, As I have Sony A6400 and Rode wireless go 2, I want to ask should I connect my Rode audio with camera or with my laptop?
If using OBS you could attach it to your camera, and in theory it could come through obs with the camlink, but then you're using the built in preamp of the camera. If You can connect it to a computer I would do that, but can't say I have used a Rode Wireless go 2 like that. I also don't have the mic. However, you can always reach out to elgato for more help!
Great Tutorial but the music makes it hard to focus on your voice on a laptop.
Thank you for the feedback, I will work on that moving forward. Are you using a Cam Link 4K?

I can't say I do check the compatability checker from elgato might be that
Andrew, I use the T7i my webcam and don't know how to get rid of the AF frame that shows up on the screen? I know I can switch from AF to MF on the lens, however that looses the focus. Do you have any tricks in your bag?
Hmmm s it showing through the stream?
Do you offer any consulting? I’m using the same camera and Camlink 4k but I get some visual noise (pixel static?) and I’m trying to figure out why. I’d pay you for your time of course if you’re interested.
Hey SweatyVanHalen... I don't do consulting for things like this. I can invite you to my discord and we can try to figure it out through text chat, but other than that your best bet would be Elgato support. Thank you for commenting, sorry I can't offer more :/
Nice video!
Can I record on the SD of the camera while using it as a webcam?
I believe so! :D
Hi, would I be able to use the 4K Cam Link efficiently (i.e. to record video from any HDMI source) if I plug it into a 3.1 (Data transfer only) USB port on my laptop?

Make sure your software is up to date. Worse comes to worse reach out to elgato support!
Andrew does it work for more than one hour streaming ? As we know it's recording time is only 30 min ... Plzz help
Yeah I've used the G7 for a 24 hour stream. It's not recording to an SD just being used like a webcam.
I was just going to ask if how you fix the delay but then you said you will address this at 5:40

I stream with a Canon EOS 80D compatible with Cam Link 4K. When I connect my HDMI cable, the LCD screen remains black ... I cannot have a preview of what is filming before going to live. Can you tell me how to solve this problem please?
What are you using to stream? OBS?
It's not recording to they camera it's being used as a webcam.

hey man, i got a camlink for my canon 600d, and it works great for zoom. problem is, i've heard that the sensors can burn out if the video is on too long. do you have any experience knowing how long dslr's generally last for zoom calls? i need to be on for over an hour at a time. any help or advice appreciated!
I can't say personally I use mirrorless and have done a 24/7 stream with this camera having no problems... 😶
I have the same camera and I just purchased the Elgato Cam Link, but there is a lot of video noise (grain) and I can't seem to get rid of it. Any ideas please? I tried searching online but couldn't find anything.
What is your light source and settings?
@@AndrewK Turns out it was just bad lighting haha! The grain is still present, but there's very little of it. Despite all that, I don't think the Elgato was worth the purchase. I have a generic capture card and the difference between the two does not justify the price difference in my opinion. I'd understand a $50 difference but in my case it was $150 AUD difference. After an hour-long dilemma I think I'll return it. I don't really need it, I think the one I have will suffice. But thank you for the response!
Always do what works best for you! 😁
Hard for me to say, since I'm not familiar with Corel VideoStudio Pr sorry! :O
Nice video! How were you able to capture on 4k. I can't on my G85 for some reason it downscale automatically to 1080.
Check your output settings in OBS or your streaming software and make sure it's keeping 4K
I'd reach out to elgato they can help more than I can.
@@AndrewK Actually I figured it out, it was the cable. Thanks!
So when you hit record your stream quality goes up? That's what you're saying, just want to make sure I understand :)
Is there any way for focus to be to be saved as default for when i turn on my camera? I don't have to do this focus lock every time I want to turn on and shoot a video using this as a webcam. I'm always in the same position, and don't want to have to "refocus" every time.
You could use auto focus, but its not as reliable. It's up to you on the camera you use :)
do you still need the and internal video capture card with this device? or is it just to literally hook up your camera?
Hook up to your camera. I have an external audio recorder though 😀
Did you check the camera compatibility list in the description?
Andrew Kan I will have to check. Thank you.
Bonjour ! Si je branche avec un hdmi qui nest pas 3.0, cela est la raison du pourquoi cest decaler '
It could be. I would also check with Elgato support too :)
Andrew - do you have to use an external mic with the CamLink 4k? I cannot get the system to pick up any audio from my camera audio (Rode VideoMic)... I was thinking that using the hdmi out it would pick up the audio as well... but maybe not. Thanks in advance for any assist!
Currently for me it does on my G7 what camera are you using?

After the time the picture freezes and no longer moves by itself.
I have to change the scene or slide the camera on / off to get a picture that freezes again.
I don't know what else to change so that it no longer freezes. :(
My first question, is what firmware update are you on? Is it the most up to date one? Then how old is your computer? Just trying to better understand 🙂

Only problem is you are not talking about audio delays or lip sync issues, all streamers need to adjust the audio delay when using an external mic.
I talk about this at 7:05 ? Unless you're talking about something else :o???
@@AndrewK my bad, missed this portion while listening to one of my livestreams, funny thing is how OBS adds by default a 193 ms delay in the log, don't know why it does that.

Does anyone know if Sony A7II works well with Elgato Cam Link?
It doesn't have it here qqdeal: www.elgato.com/en/gaming/cam-link/camera-check I'd recommend asking their support!
Won't a PC see the Cam Link as a webcam?
Yes it should 😄
