For those of you out there saying this is pricey, it's really not. Most small capture cards like this that can take high bit rate signals will run $200+ at this size and quality level. Do you know if this has any internal processing to free up CPU load on the CPU or is it only converting the signal?
Is there any benefit of the cam link if you can already just splice your game play and video of yourself together in final editing if you already have the HD60 S or is it just convenience?
cant you just use a regular capture card that you would use for xbox or playstation like the elgato hd60 pro that connects straight to your motherboard? wouldnt it be the same thing since its just interpreting an hdmi signal? So it would just be the cameras signal instead of your game consoles signal
Most cameras can be used as a webcam by simply hooking up the camera directy to a computer via USB and choosing webcam mode in the camera's UI. To anyone who's considering buying this, you should check that first. It'd really be a waste spending $130 on this accessory if your camera already supports this feature out of the box. I don't mean to be like that, but please like or respond to this comment to get it to the top, so that people don't get tricked into buying this if they don't need it. If you don't want to do any of that, you can also help by writing another comment about this.
Can you mention some cameras? I'm only asking as I don't know of any dslr/mirrorless that does this. Certainly not the Lumix or Alpha cameras, which are very suited for streaming as they have no pesky mirror in the way, I'm familiar with. But if you know of any other, it would be cool, as I'm looking for an extra camera for a third angle for streaming and not having ting gat another capture card would be nice :)
I heard you might be able to do that with the old Canon t3i with the software that comes in the box, but pretty sure that it doesn’t output 1080p, and pretty sure most cameras cant do this. So maybe, but probably not.
Going to pick one of these up with a $10 splitter that strips HDCP so I can stream my PS3 and PS4 w/o disabling HDCP on the system itself, thanks for the review!
How do you turn off the AF Display? that annoying box that follows your face around on the screen. I can turn off other displays except that. I use the camera mainly for streaming on twitch and youtube. Canon 800D/T7i connected to the PC using Camlink
Awesome tutorial. Love it. Can I ask, can you connect multiple DSLR cameras to Elgato Cam Link? or best still can I connect both my DSLR camera and iPhone for different image angles? what about audio, can I connect an external mic to it for better sound quality? Can I show my desktop screen e.g. PowerPoint at the same time? Thanks
Your audio is coming from a separate microphone, is that run through your camera and then over the HDMI cable, OR is the audio plugged in to a mic input on your computer?
Do you think the Panasonic G85 4K Mirrorless camera can be connected to this Elgato Cam Link? I really want to buy this since it is a good option for improved quality on my videos and streams through OBS.
Hi Frank, Thanks for this video - I have a canon m50 eos and a cam link 4k. Just found out my camera does not transmit audio via hdmi nor does it allow AF. I prefer a simple set up and I'm looking for a camera that does both that is also in the same price range. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.
Hey so im doing a 2 computer stream setup. I want to send my main computer's second screen into the capture device to go in to the stream computer. Does it only work for cameras or can it pick up the 2nd screen through the HDMI?
"This does retail for 129 dollars or 130... I think it's a little bit too pricey. I think 100 dollars would have been the sweet spot". Uh... sir? You have no idea what's happening in 2020... just look on eBay today and its Buy Me Now price is between 330 to 350 bucks!
so with my lens open and out, it won't connect and show in the elgato software. but if i hit the playback button, that shows pictures or video you've already taken, it closes my lens, and my camera screen goes black, but the screen will show on my PC and i can use the camera's menu buttons to move around the menu and photos. my issue is i can't mirror what my camera sees to record from my pc, can only play pictures or video that's already been taken. I have a Canon Powershot SX610 HS. Can confirm it does connect through the cam link, but only gets a signal in the software when i enter that preview mode. but then can't record with it. just trying to see if my camera can even record with the cam link before i go looking for another camera. had this camera since like 2016
So, is this used as a hdmi Capture Card? I would like to start streaming on UA-cam and Facebook with my MacBook Pro and my Sony DSLR a 58. Thanks for your time.
I bought Cam Link 4K after considering buying something used or off aliexpress, but I though that I should go with a popular brand that everyone is using for customer support, reliability and software updates. I bit the bullet and spent 120 EUR - the cheapest I could find. Now I think that I should had went for aliexpress stuff. I tried to make it work on Windows 10 and MacOS using all different combination of USB 3.0 ports, externally powered USB 3.0 hub without any luck. I tried using two cameras: Canon M50 and Canon 7D. After receiving a first email from support team I gave them all the details: computer specs, USB ports, sent a log file, filmed a demonstration video. Now I have received a second reply and the guy didn't even bother to read my report and check out the video. He suggested that I try webcamera app in the operating systems as though Elgato Game Capture HD was not necessary supposed to work with the product. I will wait for their answer and probably will have to return the item. I'm surprised at all those positive reviews online! Maybe I have to make my own to make people aware of my experience.
Hey Rand, awesome review. I loved that you provided a cam-compatible list (totally upping the resource game for UA-camrs). Thanks for that. I've a Canon 80D. I'm concerned about the battery shut-off, thoughts?
Thanks Bill! Yes it does drain battery but you can buy a dummy battery for the wall outlet. In terms of the sensor shutting off after a few minutes, most cameras have options to turn that off in the menus
Hi +Bill Calhoun, have you tried using your Canon 80D and did you manage to get rid of all the overlay info on the screen? Would love to hear from you as I have an 80D as well and I read that the 80D does not work as a live streaming/webcam since there is no way to get rid of all the overlay info (which would look not good when streaming). Thank you so much! :)
@@ToneBekkestad Yes it does work just push info button on left right with the menu button. But I guess you figured it out after 3 years ? Why did you not listen to the video about it, to toggle it off ?
So, I have a webcam & it works fine. Hooked my new Elgato Cam Link into my PC and into my Canon R camera and.... nothing. It won't let me record a UA-cam video, like I could with my webcam (I keep getting an 'error, try again'). What am I doing wrong? The Canon R is on the 'list'. Do I have to change any settings on my camera? I checked on my 'Devices & Printers' & the Cam Link IS there. Arrgh!!
Hmm. I don't know if I'd want a 5D M. IV running for 6 - 10+ hours daily or a few days a week on a consistent basis but this seems pretty damn awesome with a beater camera. A cheap Canon/Nikon DSLR with a cheap lens blows a webcam out of the water. I have a question please answer. If I were to use a Canon Dslr for live streaming, how do I charge the Dslr so it doesn't run out of charge? because you actually have to take out the battery, so I don't get how this would work.
This isn't even that expensive, if you wanted to do this the old way, you would have to get the ElgatoHD60 or Elgato HD60+ which cost around 140-200 and basically hook it up the same. I'm not sure if I understood you correctly. But with running 2 elgato's together you can have the face came up and the gameplay screen up at the same time. Which is incredibly important. But the ease of use of this is not that much more better. But if you wanted to edit faster I'm assuming this would be easier because all you have to do size it up the way you want and forget about it instead of having to do all that in post. Which again isn't that big of a deal. To me I would prefer to spend the extra money and get another capture card
Question. Can Elgato Cam Link record directly into its software? I bought LIVEPRO L1 Firmware Switcher, I would use HDMI output from LIVEPRO L1 Firmware Switcher - input to Elgato Cam Link? Difference is 4K vs 1080p capability. Elgato Link can do 4K. But it’s not always needed so if Elgato h60s works no need to change it.
4:37, that split was solid. respect.

I wonder if they'd do a bundle with this and the green screen you featured before, it seems like it would be a really good combo.
How Can I use Camera Audio with OBS using Camlink? Is not working for me.
Quick but important question:
On the side that is not the USB 3.0, what is the capture card's cable? Is it HDMI, mini HDMI, or micro HDMI?
Random Frank p. Do you like the proteus spectrum? Looks kinda cheap compared to other mice but you say it's really good.
As you said it's possible to use it as a capture card. Is it also possible to plug in a laptop or a pc or only for a console?

How do you keep the camera charged while using it? I’m trying to use a Sony A7III, but don’t want it running out of battery mid stream.
see if it has an adapter kit compatible with it that you can plug into the wall (endless power). For travel, you can plug into a portable charger
What studio light do you use when facing directly the camera? It's fantastic - keep rocking and thx for the info. Appreciate it!
I love your desktop background, did you do that yourself?
Canon EOS 7D works as well clean video out if you set the focusing mode to face detection.
is that enough if I only buy Cam Link for streaming or should I buy elgato also ?
Would this work for a webcam setup? Or would you need the elgato capture card?

VoidEnix it is just like recording video
its actually less taxing than recording, all the work the camera does is show the image through hdmi. its just using the sensor to transmit an image.
