Although I trust your content and the opinions in this video fully, I think it is worth mentioning that Corsair is the parent company of Elgato, and Elgato is the parent company of Visuals By Impulse who is sponsoring your video. Seems deceptive to make such a big deal about VBI being unassociated with the product when they have a vested interest in its success at least on some level. I believe this was just an oversight though.
making a 1/1.8 sensor look big is deceptive also I doubt the footage in this video is just the webcam itself without manual settings, strong lighting setup and post processing, which means most viewers ho buy it will never get their video to the same quality like this one here
Also acts like his earlier review of the pw513 didnt have 4k30 and 1080p60 and that only elgatos new camera does it. Both the pw513 and the updated pw515 have this feature. He's a shill now.
This is gonna be a huge upgrade from my $35 webcam that I use to show things on my desk if I ever can get one. Though, I realized this entire video, we never really see you show the physical item on your hand, only on thumbnail as far as I can remember. Maybe it's just me.
That's because he's filming the entire video on the webcam. The webcam looks to be pretty big. I have the Facecam and wouldn't recommend it for showing things on a desk, but a main part of it is the lack of focus options there (it has a completely fixed focus), so this may fix that. But what I would probably suggest is using your phone camera if you have a phone with a decent camera. There's a few apps to let you use your camera on OBS. What I used was Droidcam OBS for android, which uses a plugin to connect directly to OBS. Most apps create a local webserver that you add as a web source. This worked fantastically for years for me, until I finally picked up a DSLR.
@@shockthetoast yea, using phone is nice and I know that. But, I only have one phone and can't let it get used during an entire stream in case there are important calls or emergency.
About two years ago, I was looking to step up from the venerable Logitech C920, and bought a Mokose UC-70 camera. Although marketed as an "industrial" camera, it's a standard USB UVC camera (no bundled software) and, as such, works out of the box on any computer. It also has a large 1/1.8" sensor (my copy contains an Omnivision OS08A10) that captures 4K/30p, and does pretty well in my dimly-lit office. Unfortunately, the camera has some quirks which make it less than ideal for your average streamer. For example, the lens is fully manual -- no auto-focus or -exposure. You have to reach over and twist the focus and iris rings by hand. Like most "industrial" cameras, it takes interchangeable C-mount lenses. This is the lens mount used on old 16mm movie cameras, which means you can pick from a vast selection of used lenses going back 70+ years, if you're into that. The camera's firmware also has some quirks. For example, it reports a microphone input, when in fact there is no microphone, nor is there a connection for one. And although the sensor itself claims it can capture 4K/60p, the firmware doesn't support it. Still, it's met my needs so far. So if you're willing to deal with it's quirks, you can get the whole thing for well under $200, lens included.
I like that you took the time to explain some camera basics to the people that aren't familiar with cameras/sensors. With that in mind I think there should've been a clear distinction when this camera "zooms." It doesn't actually zoom. It crops in to the existing image. Cropping loses pixels, zooming with a physical lens does not.
Not that it would help. People think they're zooming on their phone cameras, even though they're cropping. It's a vernacular that I don't think is going away, even if they know better.
@@MasonzeroDigitalWorks I don't disagree. But also saying that "you get to choose where the camera is actually facing" @9:08 adds to the confusion that the camera is physically moving, which it isn't. I might be nit-picking but I just thought that would've been good to include while he was trying to educate newcomers to the camera scene.
Managed to cop an Elgato Facecam about a month ago for a little under 90 Euro and it's been amazing, can't see myself upgrading to this as of right now but great to see Elgato pushing the webcam space to get better.
I've been begging for better webcams for ages, finally somebody actually decided to stop being lazy! I know we've gotten decent ones lately but this is really what I've been hoping for.
The look of genuine sadness that you didn't get to show off your moustache for the marketing material for Elgato made me laugh so hard, 10/10 acting Harris ❤🤣
Thank for explaining why people use 4K not just because it looks better but because you don't lose much quality when zooming in, another great thing about 4K and even 8K motion tracking is a lot better because you have more pixels.
All true for real pro/semi-pro PTZ cameras (at higher cost), but in this case it's digital crop and reframe - it's not an physical pan & tilt and not optical lens element zoom.
The Facecam non-pro is a good lower budget entry. For those who still want good video quality without breaking the bank. this is good if money is no object, but it is definitely a good upgrade option from most other items on the market outside of a full DSLR mirrorless camera.
I've had a c920 since I started my channel back in 2012.. Is it finally time to upgrade my cam? :o My biggest issue with my current webcam is that it blows out my face too much because I'm so pale that my face reflects all the lights to the camera 😅 Does this camera treat pale boys well? Thanks for your video reviews Alpha 🙏
OKAY I'M NOT CRAZY! I WAS WAITING TO COMMENT THIS BECAUSE IT LOOKS FAKE - BUT THEN HE ROLLED BACK AND SLAPPED THE TABLE AND I WAS LIKE HASDUIFHAISHDNF!
It deffo looks like green screen, if you watch it in 4k and pause you can see the edges around the tshirt and the light on his face doesn't seem to match the background? (or seem a little blown out) At least that's what it looks like to my amatuer eye :)
I think that happens for two reasons; The lighting and the focus. He looks more blurred than the background. Add to that all of the lighting in the backgrond, and him just being lit to the side gives that effect. Either that or he has a giant size green screen. IMHO.
A quick note: Your video isn't correctly in sync with the audio - the audio of your voice runs ahead your lips. That's the opposite how it works in nature: Humans normally even expect audio delay through the limited speed of sound in air. This video turns that around and thus feels really really odd.
I also noticed this. At first I though maybe it was a delay showing up between my TV and wireless speakers, but then when he got to the part about the webcam having no mic I thought maybe it was the video. Watched it on my phone and yeah, it’s just slightly out of sync.
Webcams should look like this at a MINIMUM. FINALLY! With how big they are you'd think they'd fit proper sensors and hardware to give you DSLR like quality. Just before I was thinking of buying the Insta360 Link too.
As an Insta360 Link owner, I think it provides a nicer looking image than what I've seen from Facecam Pro videos so far. Insta has great white balance and auto exposure (with curves adjustments) that can produce a good image in pretty much any lighting. It provides a decent bokeh for a webcam as well. You may still want to consider it!
If you don't need 4K/60 and want the mic, the Link might be the better option for you. I remember picking up a webcam back in 2013 which shot in 720p/30. It cost me $40. It's crazy to think that 10 years later, we still can't get 1080/60 webcams for the same price.
Bro, this is a video about a WebCam, but I just learned something huge from you, so thank you! Recording in a higher resolution, so whenever you zoom in you don’t lose quality. That’s amazing. I didn’t even realize that was an issue I’ve been having, but it is!
I still think the Insta 360 Link would make an excellent portrait webcam but Im excited about this one. Harris how was the streaming capabilities of this webcam?
A little misleading with the full frame/apsc examples, the web cam still has a tiny sensor in comparison to both of those. Very nice image for a web cam though. 👍
dude, I'm seriously impressed by this camera. Thanks for sharing and I definitely agree it is the happy medium that the webcam space has been waiting for! btw I think the P in PTZ stands for "pan"
Holy Crap, i totally close my face to the video when you said the video was recorded with this webcam. This looks like a great camera even for YT videos!
6:56 this isn't right, sensors are important, sensor size not so much. Arri alexas are the gold standard for any high production film making, almost every movie nowadays is filmed with an arri and the starting price of an arri is around $30,000... they aren't full frame. This doesn't mean full frame is bad, but it shows it doesn't matter, just like resolution doesn't matter after a certain point. arri shows effort into how video is taken and processed is so much more important than specs on a sheet and it's why they are the first pick for most movie studios.
Glad someone else said it. Haha! There's a reason I went from full frame to APS-C. Full frame sensors are just too slow and compromise on more advanced features. The a7C for example is just a joke.
Nice Job, Harris..another informative ( with a slight touch of humor) video..but please leave the moustaching to us...please. Thank You, and Rock On, brother!
Just wanna clarify, GoPro's & DJI Action cameras are available for much cheaper with 4k 60p (and arguably better image quality). Phones have been doing 4k60p for like 7 years now. Don't think the resolution comparison to normal cameras really means much. Very cool webcam though! Definitely looks like it's got a lot of value. Don't wanna take away from that, but just worth noting for people less familar with the world of cameras.
That plot twist when you said you were recording the video on the webcam SHOOK me - it looks like it could very easily be a budget or even mid-tier dslr
sadly, despite 4k60p, it was unusable for me for copletely lights off / low-light streams due to the EXTREME noise, purplish-white haze and shutter speed. had to send it back to the shop and got kyio pro ultra. night and day difference for lowlight. also, bokeh and colors are great on kyio ultra.
One thing you neglected to do, was show the camera itself. Ive seen the promo for it in the Cam Link update. It looks BIG. Like 2x as big as the facecam. That can be fairly important info for someone to have.. the size of the thing. Also. The price. While the Facecam is about $150, the Facecam Pro is $300. Kind of another important detail left out.
Yeah, I wish he mentioned the price. I think the main reason he didn’t show the camera was because it was his A-Roll shot, and he wanted to keep the integrity of the theme which was “you can shoot a UA-cam video with this camera.” But yeah. The physical overview would have been nice.
I switched to this camera a few months ago. I don't regret it. EDIT: This is evidently a different camera. lol. I did switch to the Elgato Facecam 1080p camera though.
Hey! Just wanted to say great work. This was an amazing video super informative. I’m in media myself and I don’t think I’ve ever heard of these concepts. Explain so well on the Internet that’s all genuinely just wanted to say great work.
I started using my iPhone 13 pro max as a web cam on Mac OS Ventura and its crazy good. You can even use it in OBS and still use the portrait function that blurs the background. It almost looks as good as my mirrorless Sony. The only thing I dont know is what resolution it is. It won't tell you and there is no settings but it is super clear. It also enhances when it get dark in the room so I think it's using the lowlight features like f1.4 If you guys have a iPhone check it out. I am not sure what version iPhones this all works on. I just tried the 13 for now.
hey i use the c922 all the time. maybe I should upgrade. I dont know why, I just enjoy making videos through OBS with a webcam. Ive used the M50 Mkii before but didnt like it as much.
I've been using my iphone 13 Pro with the Epoc Cam app, as I wait to save you for a nicer camera, but I'd honestly rather have this for now and save for a way nicer camera for product shots.
I just want a damn webcam that has a large aperture so I can have real usable shallow depth of field rather than a terrible filter or faking it with a green screen and a shallow depth of field photo. You'd think that some company that makes webcams might have noticed just how often people use the background blur feature. (Often for privacy reasons, but it would so much nicer if it was real.)
The Facecam Pro has Smartphone quality video and that's a good thing, the fact we have smartphones that can shoot 4K60 or even 8K60 now is insane but webcams are still stuck in 2015 but props to Elgato because I even thought the original facecam was a steal and s great price for what you are getting.
@@ToxicTeacherTTV I do this, the quality is pretty much limited to 1080p60 in the software as a webcam. While it is far better than most webcams in terms of quality and the choices between regular and wide angle lenses is cool, sometimes it can be a hassle to keep running since it relies on OBS websockets to communicate. I will say though most decent phones at native 2k or 4k recording paired with some good lighting are more than ideal for filming youtube videos, webcams are just more convenient.
Wonder if this cam will have any sales soon, I’ll be on the lookout! Purchased an $80 cam without any knowledge of good/bad cams… it was terrible:( I have my led lights and it would make me glow like I’m a star or something. The only good thing about it was I could see myself when it was dark. This is definitely the cam I will be saving for. Thank you for this detailed video, you’ve no idea how much I appreciate this.
The arguably most important part about video in things like these isnt the res, frame rate or dynamic range. It's more the bitrate, which connects all of those things. You can have the fastest, highest res camera, but if the image falls apart into thicker pixels than minecraft blocks at the slightest movement, then you might aswell have a potato. A 1080p image at a decent bitrate is 100% of the times going to look better than some shitty, cheapo 4k one.
I'm not sure if I missed but was the webcam not even shown at all? Like can you mount it to a monitor? How big is it? What CPU/GPU/USB requirements do you have to have??...Great video but yeah now I have to goto the Elgato website to dig all that up.
Great video but honestly wish we had actually seen the product with you in this video at some point. I get what you were going for with the "whole video shot on a webcam" thing but would've loved to see what this thing actually looks like and maybe a year down to compare the sensors besides just the little graphics on screen.
I want to know how this one compares to a Razer Kiyo Pro. Biggest drawback I had with Razer was the picture quality at times and the really bad auto focus. Is this cam a good enough upgrade to move from the Razer one?
Really wish you'd review a Raspberry Pi camera. It's not a full frame sensor, but you've been able to record 4k 60fps for 2+ years now at around £90, which is probably cheaper in USD (if you can buy one). It would be great to hear a camera enthusiast and not a Rpi enthusiast talk about it.
I like the plug and play aspect of webcams and I don't need superior quality, so I have a Facecam but want to use an ATEM mini to switch cameras for over head demo shots. Unfortunately I would need HDMI connections to do that. If this webcam was HDMI, I would be all in. But it looks like I am going to inevitably have to save up for DSLRs in the future. I tried switching cameras on my Mac in OBS but for some reason the ability to turn them off when not in use is not a function available on a Mac. On a PC the function is there. If you can convince Elgato to make a webcam with HDMI outputs, I am all in . . . well, unless I buy some used DSLRs off of eBay before that happens.
Awesome Vid Harris! Been looking for something like this with out pitching big bucks on mirrorless/dslr. Also November just started and that Movember Stach, my peach fuzz would never keep up🤣. Know what to save for next💪
I'm sure the camera is great as all I can see is perfectly focused Mustache just curious as to why? You growing a mullet next? you got the stash to match a mullet.... I'm gonna wait for a mullet to make an appearing in an upcoming video. Jokes aside, good video I've been waiting for something like this for me to upgrade my Logitech c920 as I felt none of the others were enough of an improvement to warrant the money and I can't afford a DSLR.
Filming in 4K is like making 30 megapixel photos when your 4K screen is only 8 megapixels. You can zoom in afterwards. Although zooming in optically is still better if you don't need the entire field of view and you don't use a smartphone that can't do that (most do have a single zoom lens though).
Elgato needs to put together starter, midrange, and premium plug-n-play streaming bundles for Christmas. A Facecam Pro, StreamDeck XL, Wave DX, mic arm, 4k60 Pro Mk2 capture card, and Ring Light combo for $950 - a $250 discount from buying all of them standalone - for the high end bundle would be an interesting price point, because it's literally everything you need to begin streaming for under $1000, and you KNOW it will all work from day one.

Seems deceptive to make such a big deal about VBI being unassociated with the product when they have a vested interest in its success at least on some level. I believe this was just an oversight though.
making a 1/1.8 sensor look big is deceptive
also I doubt the footage in this video is just the webcam itself without manual settings, strong lighting setup and post processing, which means most viewers ho buy it will never get their video to the same quality like this one here
Also acts like his earlier review of the pw513 didnt have 4k30 and 1080p60 and that only elgatos new camera does it. Both the pw513 and the updated pw515 have this feature. He's a shill now.
The definition of shill.
@@tonirvd3650If you’re buying a $300 without lighting and post processing you honestly deserve to have waisted your money.
This is gonna be a huge upgrade from my $35 webcam that I use to show things on my desk if I ever can get one. Though, I realized this entire video, we never really see you show the physical item on your hand, only on thumbnail as far as I can remember. Maybe it's just me.
It better be for $300. Also, no its not just you, he never showed the camera itself. It looks VERY big for a web cam. Like 2x as wide as the Facecam.
You can tell it's a Sony sensor from the red tinge in the shadows 6:48 :P
I got one last night for $40, fucking steaaaalll - can't see myself upgrading anytime soon at that price
I've been begging for better webcams for ages, finally somebody actually decided to stop being lazy! I know we've gotten decent ones lately but this is really what I've been hoping for.
the OG facecam from Elgato was and still is a fantastic camera for streaming.
The look of genuine sadness that you didn't get to show off your moustache for the marketing material for Elgato made me laugh so hard, 10/10 acting Harris ❤🤣
I love how much we learn from you. Not only you tell us your opinion, and it's based on facts, but you also teach us things. Thanks, dude!
Thank for explaining why people use 4K not just because it looks better but because you don't lose much quality when zooming in, another great thing about 4K and even 8K motion tracking is a lot better because you have more pixels.
Just a heads up, PTZ stands for Pan Tilt Zoom, it can Pan (left to right) Tilt (Up and own) and Zoom (using moving lens elements).
All true for real pro/semi-pro PTZ cameras (at higher cost), but in this case it's digital crop and reframe - it's not an physical pan & tilt and not optical lens element zoom.
@@ericy4522 It is still what the initialism stands for.
Bro… I just love your integrity and straightforwardness. So appreciate your content. Thank you 🙏
Insta360 Link has a 1/2 inch sensor, and this has 1/1.8 inch, so in theory, this IS the best webcam. Wonder how different they are in practice.
I was going to get the normal facecam but now, thanks to you, I’m gonna get this one.
I bet whoever is supposed to watch you through it, doesn't care which one it is
@@maxzett nah i need them to see me well
The Facecam non-pro is a good lower budget entry. For those who still want good video quality without breaking the bank. this is good if money is no object, but it is definitely a good upgrade option from most other items on the market outside of a full DSLR mirrorless camera.
The OG Facecam was and still is a great camera.
I've had a c920 since I started my channel back in 2012.. Is it finally time to upgrade my cam? :o
My biggest issue with my current webcam is that it blows out my face too much because I'm so pale that my face reflects all the lights to the camera 😅
Does this camera treat pale boys well?
Thanks for your video reviews Alpha 🙏
lmao relatable
Audio is out of sync when I watch this. Is that a UA-cam processing glitch or the webcam audio recording.
Great review btw.
Not gonna lie, the footage of you in the "main area" (starting @ 6:08) looks like you are in front of a green screen. It is pretty crazy
OKAY I'M NOT CRAZY! I WAS WAITING TO COMMENT THIS BECAUSE IT LOOKS FAKE - BUT THEN HE ROLLED BACK AND SLAPPED THE TABLE AND I WAS LIKE HASDUIFHAISHDNF!
I totally thought it was a green screen too. Not sure why but I just kept thinking it
It deffo looks like green screen, if you watch it in 4k and pause you can see the edges around the tshirt and the light on his face doesn't seem to match the background? (or seem a little blown out) At least that's what it looks like to my amatuer eye :)
I think that happens for two reasons; The lighting and the focus. He looks more blurred than the background. Add to that all of the lighting in the backgrond, and him just being lit to the side gives that effect. Either that or he has a giant size green screen. IMHO.
The quality is nuts! I would absolutely shoot on that. Were you capturing to OBS when you filmed this?
A quick note: Your video isn't correctly in sync with the audio - the audio of your voice runs ahead your lips. That's the opposite how it works in nature: Humans normally even expect audio delay through the limited speed of sound in air. This video turns that around and thus feels really really odd.
I also noticed this. At first I though maybe it was a delay showing up between my TV and wireless speakers, but then when he got to the part about the webcam having no mic I thought maybe it was the video. Watched it on my phone and yeah, it’s just slightly out of sync.
I also noticed this. The webcam probably has some delay unfortunately.
Same. I was going to make a comment but you beat me to it.
@@SavacGaming Also the facecam pro HAS NO MICROPHONE so you can't use the audio from the webcam to sync it to the audio from your microphone.
Harris probably rushed this video out for the clicks. All the vids I've seen on it aren't older than 18 hrs. He most likely missed tge delay in post.
As a camera nerd, I must say you did an excellent job of explaining some of the basics in this video. Bravo!
WoW finally!!!! 2 years later after you made the perfect video TELLING THEM WHAT TO F’n MAKE!!!! Lol😂 great work Harris!
Man’s got that top gun stache 😂 looks great though
Bro, this is a video about a WebCam, but I just learned something huge from you, so thank you! Recording in a higher resolution, so whenever you zoom in you don’t lose quality. That’s amazing. I didn’t even realize that was an issue I’ve been having, but it is!
Or, you can use digital stabilization in post and not lose resolution.
@@kelainefes I don’t typically need stabilization in my videos but it does come in handy
I still think the Insta 360 Link would make an excellent portrait webcam but Im excited about this one. Harris how was the streaming capabilities of this webcam?
I might just get both of them.
I think the Insta360 Link is the better product overall, but it doesn't do 4K/60. So if that's important to you, go with the Facecam Pro.
I'm glad you included the disclaimer at the start of the video. With great mustache comes great responsibility after all. Mustache wisely my friend.
The Mustache Works My Brother 🙏🏾 😅 Elgato Is Quietly Making It Easier To Be A Streamer, Thank Goodness 🎉
Yeah, you would think the "Pan/Tilt" label in the control software would have made that obvious :)
Holy Crap, i totally close my face to the video when you said the video was recorded with this webcam. This looks like a great camera even for YT videos!
That Stache! Epic 🎉
Thank You, and Rock On, brother!
holy crap, when you said you were using the webcam for the intro... i was blown away, brb finding my credit card
Omg you got me so hyped for this. Looks like this will be on my to-buy list!
looks great! Also, the mustache works for you!
That plot twist when you said you were recording the video on the webcam SHOOK me - it looks like it could very easily be a budget or even mid-tier dslr
you must be a hobbyist photographer?
sadly, despite 4k60p, it was unusable for me for copletely lights off / low-light streams due to the EXTREME noise, purplish-white haze and shutter speed. had to send it back to the shop and got kyio pro ultra. night and day difference for lowlight. also, bokeh and colors are great on kyio ultra.
?? At the end he talks about the price and what’s available for $200 more or less than this camera.
Ok the preset ptz in stream deck presets are very cool, mixing the focuses has so much utility.
Senpai Gaming, awesome content keep it up dude
Looks like a good camera and useful for most UA-camrs or there. One note on your video tho, I believe the audio and video are slightly out of sync 🤔
Your mustache looks epic! keep rocking it 🤟
Senpai Gaming, I subscribed because your videos are super cool!
Didn't think you watch him too :O
Dyaum dat Movember mustache.
Keep it up brother and amazing video.
I switched to this camera a few months ago. I don't regret it. EDIT: This is evidently a different camera. lol. I did switch to the Elgato Facecam 1080p camera though.
That's honestly crazy. I never even realized I was watching webcam footage, even had trouble believing it after you mentioned that.
Fantastic budget youtube camera option. What's not to like? Thanks for the review!
The stache threw me off lol. Nice vid as always btw :3
Incredible that it took this long to make a 4k60 camera that doesn't suck.
This sounds amazing, did you do any ADR in this video?
hey i use the c922 all the time. maybe I should upgrade. I dont know why, I just enjoy making videos through OBS with a webcam. Ive used the M50 Mkii before but didnt like it as much.
I was actually looking for this video earlier today when I saw your face on their website lmao
I don’t even stream.. I’m just her for Harris and his personality 😂
the OF stasch was unexpected
if you're going for the UncleTouchy vibe you nailed it.
when you said you were using it to shoot the video at 0:59 i very audibly shouted “DAAMN!”
yea this cam is insane!
This really does look much better than any other Webcam I've seen!
4 months later, this product never released...
Could you just use a smartphone as a webcam in that case?
Thank you for this detailed video, you’ve no idea how much I appreciate this.
you miss one video
and he goes from developing a mustache
to man has a full blown pretty fucking nice mustache
Bro I’m at work I thought u were using a camera this shit is gas bruh 😭🤣
Thank you for telling me about the auto focus trick! This is so helpful!
When you said you were recording the video with the webcam I audibly gasped and leaned in because I could not believe how incredibly good it looked!
great video. you clearly know your stuff and have a natural instinct when it comes to video production and reviews
Slow down Magnum PI! Now I need a upgrade 😆
Great video, can I ask what mic setup you used to film this video with that cam ??
Magnificent video! Thank you :)
Camera looks amazing, now I regret recently purchasing the Elgato Facecam 😢
The arguably most important part about video in things like these isnt the res, frame rate or dynamic range. It's more the bitrate, which connects all of those things. You can have the fastest, highest res camera, but if the image falls apart into thicker pixels than minecraft blocks at the slightest movement, then you might aswell have a potato. A 1080p image at a decent bitrate is 100% of the times going to look better than some shitty, cheapo 4k one.
*PTZ = Pan, Tilt, Zoom
😊 Great review.. crazy how good this thing looks.
The Facecam is enough reason to move from the Razor. They are a mediocre product company with premium name prices. I buy Logitech over Razor.
@@DG-america TO be fair, Razer Kiyo pro was a gift to me. I was always eyeing either getting a Facecam or just straight up buying a Lumix G7.
Absolutely love the thumbnail
