Stand By Me is a hymn. It has been in Church hymn books and sung in our churches all my 68 years and way before then. It was copyrighted in 1905 and written by C. A. Tindley and the music put to it by F. A. Clark.
Is there nothing better in this world than a song sung by either Seth or Scott? If either of their voices was the last I ever heard, I think I would die in ecstasy.
I love these performances. The Avett Brothers really have mastered this type of presentation. The background road noise doesn't even take away from the performance--it actually gives it a "moving along" quality. Awesome!!!
this may be the most emotional, captivating video i have ever seen. it almost brings me to tears every single time i watch it. you can feel the emotion he's putting behind this sing radiate right through the screen, absolutely beautiful.
This video played like a lucid dream. Seth gazing out a foggy window, his eyes tell a story. Their trance like state seems intoxicated with emotion. The power of the song forcing Seth to recall a distant memory . All the while, rolling green hills pass by, capturing the dynamic lyrics and timelessness of Stand By Me piece by Ben E. King.
Seth, you'll never be anything but a blessing. Praying up a storm for you and your family. You guys have carried me through the loss of my mom and a tough separation. Hang in there, it gets easier. Love and God bless.
this world so full of wonders.... truck drivers rollin on..likely kickin back with some beef jerky... while such a beautiful song sang so sweetly on a bus passes by like a breeze
People are people, have weaknesses, sin, don't always do what they should, don't always take care of each other, can't figure out their own issues head on, etc. Talent is talent, and I personally will continue to enjoy the Avett Brothers' art. My heart breaks for all involved, and in the end, it's just my hope that they can each carry on in life with some peace knowing they did all they could to 'right' the 'wrongs'.
Powerful song. It's in our hymnals at church. The Stand By Me than Ben E. King sang (and most know, except for maybe the John Lennon version) was an adaptation of the original Methodist hymn composed by Charles Tindley. All popular versions are awesome. I used to like Ben E. King's version the best, but I've changed my mind..
the honesty in their music and their performances is what brought me in as an Avett Brothers fan and what keeps me here wanting more. but it is tough to discern the line between being genuine while maintaining personal privacy. so i believe all that we'll truly know about Seth's personal situation will come from him only - not some outside speculator or 'anonymous source'. but if there's anything that i can see, it's that he is hurting.
Can feel the sadness, I thought I knew all hymns, spirituals and southern gospel but I have never heard this one, I love it though. I love all Seth's solos.
such a great feature/share Nancy! i just love listening to him and his brother! what a beautiful rendition of such a great song! and i copy someone elses statement here, just when u think u could not love them more, they sing a song like this and u are just "wow"ed away ..again!!
Wow, I just heard Seth sing this song at Bridgestone Arena, in Nashville. I was wondering if it was an original or a cover. Very glad to have found it...
I listen to this song so much... I wish it didn't have the "fuzz" in the background of the recording. Still amazing, I wish I could get that old time feel out of my guitar. Love the solo!!

Russ Kendrick Martin Official gives it a lo-fi quality which is kind of wholesome
an old hymn by the Black hymn writer, singer and Methodist pastor, the Rev. Charles Albert Tindley (1856-1933).
Wow! What a beautiful rendition of "Stand by me."
This video is evidence of how often these guy's are on a bus, yet still bring heavy emotion to the table.

When I’ve done the best I can and my friends don’t understand, Thou Who knowest all about me, stand by me.
It was written by Charles A. Tindley in 1905 and recorded many times by various artists. Ernest Tubb, Willie Nelson.

It's a hymn, as sung and also recorded by Elvis. Check out his version.
We're here, Seth.
Written by Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller
The song is based on a 1955 Gospel song of
the same name by The Staples Singers.
FYI
If one of you guitar pros could tab this out I would Greatly appreciate it.
this just made me really happy :)
You can have church anywhere. You don't have to be in a "church". The church is the people not the building.
