Roger Miller easily cracks my top five country artists of all time! His lyrics were genuine and hilarious; Dang Me, Do-Wacka-Do, Chug-ug-lug, Oo de lally (he was the rooster in Robin Hood), and many more! I've seen clips of his show on here and he seemed like an amazing and funny guy. The fact that Scott does a cover of this song (discovered it today and glad I did) solidifies the Avett Brothers as my favorite band alive and top three all time!
I'm loving these Avett brothers. People let's gather round with instruments and lets play some music and sing together. Cant be wrong y'all. Keep it going Avetts and see you in Red Rocks come July.
I agree, the Minneapolis show was awesome! Took the road trip to Chicago and they did this song again, they rocked the house! Their cousin played the drums on one of their songs, she played great!
I really like almost all of the music you post, but this will always be one of my most favorite versions of a song ever. Every few months, I get on a kick where I listen to this cover on repeat for a bit, and it never grows old. I
You're a smart dude with good taste. You have many years of great music ahead of you. Forget about the "music business", "award shows", the radio.......lots of ways to access good music nowadays.
They get plenty of credit as do all good musicians. It's up to you to support them any way you can. Ignore the pop media circus and you'll discover so many wonderful musicians.
Too much watching partisan news networks day after day , week after week, year after year. Listening to only those we agree with tell us that those that don't agree with us are stupid, hateful, insidious, or all of the above. It's an odd time in American history. Our society is wealthy and free with opportunities aplenty for those that want them bad enough. Even those at the bottom with little hope of rising have their basic needs covered for the most part. Most of the problems we have (biggest being healthcare) require a pragmatic approach. Trump is a lightning rod, but in all honesty, he is a symptom, not the disease itself. The hatred people have for each other right now is insanity.
If you think there are plenty of opportunities for everyone, you need to get out and see more of the country. There are tremendous opportunities for *many,* to be sure, but not nearly for all. There are parts of America that are basically like third world countries.
just enjoy them while you can, if they fall to the main stream ...it will change them. I hope that never happens to Avett like so many other good ones before them..
It's absolutely scary how much Scott looks like my dad at his age in this video. Same beard, same hat, same guitar. It's like a trip back in time twenty years.
@krabbers London is sold out but, it looks like Dublin is still open if you are up that way... but if you are in London, you could catch a ride to the Paris Show...
That's Country music there!! He's singing about his life! He didn't once mention a tractor, his boots, his pickup, his ex, or what his floozy of the week thinks of them. This song has meaning!
I've listened to this song a million and a half times. What is that cracking in the background?!! It sounds like someone playing with an empty water bottle. If someone was doing that while I was recording a song I'd flip out.
Never would I have called myself,"average".Below-maybe,probably not.Above-maybe,probably not.If anything I would say, antiverage.I don't think that terms in Webster's,but it (sh)could be. But this song is the most relatable one I have heard in a long, long time.
no one will ever understand me. this is heart breaking. i thought i found the one who did, and she loved roger miller too. she didnt love me and my own life has become a country song. god damn it.. too sad to sing these days...
@raymondfeltonfan whoa im 14 and my favorite band is that avett brothers too (have been since 4th grade haha) i thought i was the only one, thats awesome. :)
@AtomicHercules when i said that signs was the only one on an album i also stated in a following sentence that there was a chance that it could be on a live album. I know it was way over your head there but that implys that their live albums do have covers and that that would be the best chance to see this song. Obviously im not implying that they have no covers on any of their live albums, i would have to know nothing about them to say that. I apologize for confusing you.
I always find my way back to this song
I come back to this song more and more as I grow older.
This might be my favourite video of Scott. 😺
One of my favorite Roger Miller tunes, and definitely under appreciated. Great job!

I agree, the Minneapolis show was awesome! Took the road trip to Chicago and they did this song again, they rocked the house! Their cousin played the drums on one of their songs, she played great!
I love Roger Miller. Scott Avett singing him somehow makes this song even better!
I really like almost all of the music you post, but this will always be one of my most favorite versions of a song ever. Every few months, I get on a kick where I listen to this cover on repeat for a bit, and it never grows old. I

Dennis Linde was a genius.
+jordan merrick Roger Miller was still a genius
Have you ever seen video of Roger Miller playing the fiddle? He was fierce.
You're a smart dude with good taste. You have many years of great music ahead of you. Forget about the "music business", "award shows", the radio.......lots of ways to access good music nowadays.
@warman115, google the title of the song, the song is written by roger miller
They get plenty of credit as do all good musicians. It's up to you to support them any way you can. Ignore the pop media circus and you'll discover so many wonderful musicians.
I just saw their show in Amsterdam tonight. I loved the show and this song. Does anyone know whether it's going to be on a new album or something?
This song. It's me. Everyone seems so divided over this or that......and I'm over here shaking my head.

loved it - good for the soul!
Thank you to crackerfarm ranch and the Avett Brothers for supplying us with one of the last doses of real music around and making time for their fans.
I really enjoyed there concert in Madison on Saturday Feb 9th 2013
It's absolutely scary how much Scott looks like my dad at his age in this video. Same beard, same hat, same guitar. It's like a trip back in time twenty years.
"People in the city call me country"
me, staring at Scott Avett's face: "I'll call you whatever you want, boo"
One of my favorite Dennis Miller songs!
Come on, now.
@@lincolnmaceachern2410 ?
I just really like when he says hobo
absolutely one of my favs!
Wow...amazing!!!
I love you Scott Avett!
Love me some Roger Miller.
Just realized this is pretty much the same chord progression as Murdered in the City.
Tom Croteau
H imp
Which is great as I have just mastered murdered in the city ... now on to this one . Perfect
@krabbers

i just want to be able to do this...screw the money, the fans, the stardom. i just want this ability!!!
this video is perfection
He should visit NC more often. :-)
I would still Love Scott Avett if he was singing the Mickey Mouse song, He just works magic with his talent. So Admirable and humble.
I've listened to this song a million and a half times. What is that cracking in the background?!! It sounds like someone playing with an empty water bottle. If someone was doing that while I was recording a song I'd flip out.
he does a lot of these videos on a cell phone from his house. he has his kids playing around him in some of them. he keeps it real.
I think it's probably the floor or piano bench creaking under him. This is a Crackerfarm video, definitely not a cell phone video.
LOVE LOVE IT!!!
I really like this one
I'm 2 years old, and I wish Scott Avett was my daddy!
scott has a dip in and hes such a good singer
You have remarkable literary skills for a two year old! :)
Never would I have called myself,"average".Below-maybe,probably not.Above-maybe,probably not.If anything I would say, antiverage.I don't think that terms in Webster's,but it (sh)could be. But this song is the most relatable one I have heard in a long, long time.
Scott is so amazing , Lithic couldnt of said it better. That song was meant for scott
@raymondfeltonfan My friend, this is the age of the internet. WE will make them famous! Take courage.
Roger Miller
@SuperJos81 it is a Roger Miller cover so I doubt that they aree going to put it on one of their albums
Roger Miller sang this about my life before I was even livin'
Roger Miller was a genius.
no one will ever understand me. this is heart breaking. i thought i found the one who did, and she loved roger miller too. she didnt love me and my own life has become a country song. god damn it.. too sad to sing these days...
They say she's one in a million, that means there's 10 more in New York City at least. Chin up buddy, you'll be right in time, keep on chooglin'
@@BenjiMordino thanks man. Yep, life goes on. I appreciate your kind comments to a stranger.
Fuck her. I forgive her though

awesome!!!
I wonder where he got the chord progression for "Murder in the City".... *Cough Cough*
Roger Miller wrote it first I think?
And February Seven, and Once and Future Carpenter lol. They just capo on 4. Same exact song
yes.
I totally understand the lyrics of this song...
For the record, this song was written by Dennis Linde (by himself) and first recorded by Roger Miller.
Quiz Proctor glad we straightened that out.
amazing
LOVE
they don't need to cover mainstream shit they are pure the way they are stop me if im wrong
@warman115, chorus chords, capo 2 and play F, Em. Dm. G7, C. i am 99% sure that is what it is. sounds correct!
Let me know if you come across any...
I thought I'd never find a song that completely describes me
Now...This is music....
2020 love
this is sweeter than yoo-hoo
@drunknmonky77 Nobody disliked this song. Somebody just missed the like button.
Strong as new rope....
How do you get permission to sing Roger Miller songs?
i would say being fulfilled is the great achievement, but you have to be humble to get there.
