About a year and a half into service in the military, my mom asked what I was going to do when I get back. I waited a week to reply. Told her I was buying a guitar and a Harley, growing a beard and a soul, and traveling until I outrun time.
After all the time that's past... this really IS one of the most beautiful song ever written. This version, this performance in particular draws out so much emotion. Even if you already know how powerful it is, it's like watching the end of Hoosiers, or Rudy for the millionth time... it STILL grabs you by the boo boo and hangs on for a while. You kno it's coming yet you cannot stop the goosebumps from forming nor the tear that is being produced. Thank you as always Seth and Scott. And let me single out Mr. Joe Kwon. Truly fantastic. Cheerz!
Sibling harmony is a gift from God. I can't believe We've been listening to this masterpiece for ten years now. Still hits as hard. Thanks Cardinal Sess.✌️🇺🇸
There is a God who loves you. He is knowable. The very one that stretches out the heavens knows when a sparrow falls and knows every individual hair on your head. Jesus is His name. The very breath in your lungs is possible because of Him. Shalom .
I found this song last night watching this guy's channel who goes from neighborhood to neighborhood in New York City asking people what song they're listening to, since then I just can't stop pressing the repeat button! Amazing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My (now) husband bought me The Carpenter album on our first date because he knew how much I love the Avett Brothers and it had been released just days before. We listened to the whole thing through in his car and then I played this song off YT as it was my favorite at the time. When we got out of the car to kiss goodbye I saw a shooting star, we wished on it and the rest is history. We'll be married for four years this October. 😊😉
North Carolina's greatest hidden treasure... I wish them all the success they deserve, but I am so thankful I have been able to see their growth from 10 years ago playing in Concord Mills for about 30 of us locals, I was instantly hooked... so amazing, such talent and grace...
What an amazing memory for you! I saw them in 2004 in southern Missouri, maybe 80ish people there. Same thing, immediately hooked. Been so great seeing them grow and evolve and keep bringing all the good stuff.
I am from their hometown and I remember seeing them play live in a bar called the George Washington Bookstore and Tavern. It's no longer there, but The Avett Brothers are still going strong.
Last night I dreamt the whole night long I woke with a head full of songs I spent the whole day I wrote 'em down, but its a shame Tonight I'll burn the lyrics, 'Cause every chorus was your name
"I'd like these guys even if they weren't my sons." The greatest compliment EVER! I will never forget that, since I saw it on the documentary. Good Daddy! :) I told my daughter, "I love you and I like you." cause I genuinely DO!
You are blessed INDEED ! How I would love to be so blessed. I would give up my worldly possessions & follow them around the world if they would tolerate it ! Forget joining the circus. Would there be any joy greater than to witness this minstrel show every night ? Sheer unadulterated BRILLIANCE. I don't think the world is quite ready for two that are so full of shine. The word amazing gets tossed about much too easily these days & for them, it just begins to touch on the truth of the matter.
Amazing. I love them so much.. they make me feel like I'm their only fan and it's like there singing to me. I wish more people my age would listen to amazing people like them.
The New Years show made you feel that way. When they sang I and Love and You it was so quiet in the big coliseum and almost everyone sang along. An awesome experience.
North Carolina is home to many talented musicians as well as artist. I think The Avett Brothers are fantastic. Not many people get their own line of Martin guitars.
WONDERFUL BEYOND WORDS. LOVE TO ALL. THANKS TO YOUR FAMILIES FOR ALLOWING AMERICA TO EXPERIENCE THE SUPERB TALENT OF YOUR LOVED ONES. WE SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT!
Don't push me out Just a little longer Stall your mother Disregard your father's words Close the laundry door Tiptoe across the floor Keep your clothes on I've got all that I can take Teach me how to use The love that people say you made (Teach me how to use) (The love that people say you made) Stop your parents' car I just saw a shooting star We can wish upon it We won't share the wish we made But I can't keep no secrets I wish that you would always stay Last night I dreamt the whole night long I woke with a head full of songs I spent the whole day I wrote 'em down, but it's a shame (Teach me how to use, teach me how to use) Tonight I'll burn the lyrics 'Cause every chorus was your name (Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)
Seth Avett D35!!! Love that guitar. It is the reason I found the Avett Brothers. I bought the guitar, then looked into them, I guess everything happens for a reason after all! This is the FIRST Avett Bros song I ever heard. It was the Tiny Desk performance though.
man u gotta love it when u find those songs that give u goosebumps and make ur hair stand on and and tears well up in ur eyes no other art form quite like music is there?
I feel like the Avett Bros less popular stuff is so incredibly good. I've never been a fan of, say, 'I and Love and You', not that its a bad song by any means, just doesn't resonate with me. But I can listen to something like Laundry Room or Ten Thousand Words on repeat. Maybe it's because I'm from the south and unconsciously drawn to the twang of a banjo? Not sure what is but these guys are magic. Seeing them for 3 shows at Red Rocks in 2020.
i saw a cardinal on the fence today during a session and this robin and a big squiorrel that has a brown tail and eats outa my hand now (WIERD) loves these guys. they listen on the porch no shit ! If they come down south I would so join forces with em for a tour ! love these guys and hope they are well
I never get tired of listening to their music. I like the old songs and the newer ones. But nothing compares to seeing them live. If you haven't seen them, then check their tour schedule and go ASAP !
+Jason Carparts I was lucky enough to see them just over two years ago and to say it was amazing would be an understatement. I can confidently say that you will not be disappointed when you see them.
wow, we reached two million views. who would have dreamed about this? any other artists you'd love to see on our channel? let us know!

Quite often since it is fortunately in my music mix. hands raised emoji
I love this performance. Keep coming back.
Me. :)
Yes, for a few days more.
I'm still listening in 2020, love it!
About a year and a half into service in the military, my mom asked what I was going to do when I get back. I waited a week to reply. Told her I was buying a guitar and a Harley, growing a beard and a soul, and traveling until I outrun time.
That's great song waiting to be written
Write up the story of your own life! Thank you for your service. We are all still discovering our own magic.
Remember that your story goes on, even if it changed quite a bit.
I hope you made it where you hoped to go 😊

+krispykremelvr - well said
💯
Truth
a loooaaaff offf bread a gaaallllooon of milk and a stiiiickkkk offff butter
I swear, the harmony in this might just be the most amazing thing I've ever heard.
I was at Merlefest in 2004 and these guys put on a little side work shop on harmonizing. They've only gotten better.
You've never heard Hanson then, have you?
Blood harmony
Jup I thought the same ....
They rock! Check out Everly Brothers - Kentucky. Also amazing harmony
The Avett Brothers are a gift from the universe.
A gift from God.
There is a God who loves you. He is knowable. The very one that stretches out the heavens knows when a sparrow falls and knows every individual hair on your head. Jesus is His name. The very breath in your lungs is possible because of Him. Shalom .
Agree
If I was walking down the sidewalk and happened upon this mini concert,
it would probably make for one of the greatest days of my life.
I agree
I found this song last night watching this guy's channel who goes from neighborhood to neighborhood in New York City asking people what song they're listening to, since then I just can't stop pressing the repeat button! Amazing 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is by far the best version of this song around. Perfect.
You ought to check out their performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, very impressive.
+Alex way ahead of you. I agree, It's amazing.
Ah, roger. Just spreading the word is all.
Seth never messes up.
Do you mean the best version they have done? I thought they wrote it.
8 years after that released, i probably listen to it every week ! Love it so much ! Lot of love from France to all who still listen to that song
North Carolina's greatest hidden treasure... I wish them all the success they deserve, but I am so thankful I have been able to see their growth from 10 years ago playing in Concord Mills for about 30 of us locals, I was instantly hooked... so amazing, such talent and grace...

Awesome :)
I remember when they were a punk band in High School lol
Lucky dog!!!!!
What an amazing memory for you! I saw them in 2004 in southern Missouri, maybe 80ish people there. Same thing, immediately hooked. Been so great seeing them grow and evolve and keep bringing all the good stuff.

Pure, raw, poetic,, its songs like these that makes me think how brilliant and beautiful life really is.
I love this song its still just as fresh as when it was first released
This version is pretty dope too. Plus the beards are on point. 😂
❤
Hey its my first time listening and really loving it. Do you knowwhats the story here?
I like how they sing songs a little different every time. It's like listening to a whole new song
Incredible

I’ve probably reached 300 at this point 😅
I am from their hometown and I remember seeing them play live in a bar called the George Washington Bookstore and Tavern. It's no longer there, but The Avett Brothers are still going strong.

Last night I dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
I spent the whole day
I wrote 'em down, but its a shame
Tonight I'll burn the lyrics,
'Cause every chorus was your name
Still phenomenal
Seven years ago??? Cmon, I can't be that old!!! But I still adore this song
Everything they sing is like birds singing in the mourning.💕💕💖💖💖💕💕💕💖💖💖💕💕💖💖💖💕💕💖💕💕💖💕💖💖💕💖💖💕💕💖💓💓❤💓💓👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
used to listen to this every day with my dad, complete nostalgia coming back to this song almost a decade later
Looks like there are 87 people who don't understand how awesome this is....
-my favorite way to listen to Tha Brothers...Acoustic...live and no Shit...just like hangin' by the camp fire...pickin' an-uh grinnin'
I love Avett Brothers. They are the reason I drove 1,000 miles to another city. Their music moved me.
Haha literally moved you
"I am a breathing time machine!"
Such a beautiful song with great lyrics!
Could you imagine walking up to this amazing performance??? What a treasure these gentlemen are for generations of music lovers

Love these guys---real music--- no hype just pure energy/poetry.
antem except that silly horseshit record/vid they just release. Holy fuck. Fail. Brutal.
these dudes can fill up an ear with two acoustic instruments and pure voice...top notch
I like this song in all my previous lives and in all the ones that will follow.
I feel so lucky to be just a few miles from the greatest outdoor music venue in the world, and have these guys there every summer.
Where's that?
Red to the Rocks boyyyyy lol
"I'd like these guys even if they weren't my sons." The greatest compliment EVER! I will never forget that, since I saw it on the documentary. Good Daddy! :) I told my daughter, "I love you and I like you." cause I genuinely DO!
The greatest harmonists????😬 I've seen em live a few times and never let down!!!❤
They've gone beyond, into new territory, but will never get more pure and beautiful than this.

well I thank you for this. Art has regained
The “ Tonight I’ll burn the lyrics cause every chorus was your name” line gets me every time! Just emotion in the lyrics
November blue. Heard it for the first time about 6 months ago, best song ever. Always on repeat
Man... that solo. These guys know how to put on a show.
Thank you for your service, keep it real.
2021 looks so much better than 2020, this song discovery is evidence of that.
WONDERFUL BEYOND WORDS. LOVE TO ALL. THANKS TO YOUR FAMILIES FOR ALLOWING AMERICA TO EXPERIENCE THE SUPERB TALENT OF YOUR LOVED ONES. WE SINCERELY APPRECIATE IT!
so dope. these guys are one of my fav bands. so talented and so humble.
They sang about love and God we need more of it all
Don't push me out
Just a little longer
Stall your mother
Disregard your father's words
Close the laundry door
Tiptoe across the floor
Keep your clothes on
I've got all that I can take
Teach me how to use
The love that people say you made
(Teach me how to use)
(The love that people say you made)
Stop your parents' car
I just saw a shooting star
We can wish upon it
We won't share the wish we made
But I can't keep no secrets
I wish that you would always stay
Last night I dreamt the whole night long
I woke with a head full of songs
I spent the whole day
I wrote 'em down, but it's a shame
(Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)
Tonight I'll burn the lyrics
'Cause every chorus was your name
(Teach me how to use, teach me how to use)
almost 3 million people want to see the avett cardinal sessions part 2
This is my favorite Avett Brothers video to watch, I must have watched it, over the course of a year mind you, at least 20 times.
+Cel Esparza Lol i've watched it 20 times this week prolly.
They are so darn adorable!
the best video/sound on the internet
I can sleep smiling knowing these guys exist.
Their voices never fail to make a bad day better, thank you for beautiful music to cope with life a little better :)
That’s some mighty fine picking and a singing
This song still kills me years and years later. Gives me feelings nothing else can. Love my boys💙💙

Greatest band in the world.

Yeah man this is like the only song that does it for me.
I don't know that I have ever seen someone play and sing so beautifully as Scott Avett in this video.
This is the top song of all the Cardinal sessions. Incredible.
I feel like the Avett Bros less popular stuff is so incredibly good. I've never been a fan of, say, 'I and Love and You', not that its a bad song by any means, just doesn't resonate with me. Talent pours out of every inch of them...
Rare souls that can make the banjo perfect.
The best band hands down, best concerts ever, most under rated group in music. See you tonight!!!
I cried watching this song live. I love the Avett Brothers!
Looked out at the beach, took a drink of the Pacific North Wests finest IPAs and turned on this tune... Could a night get any better.
Just stunning. There is a reason that these guys are beloved by so many and its because they represent everything good and pure about music.
I can't wait to get back to live music, however in the meantime I will fill this void watching and listening, over and over!!
I never get tired of listening to their music. I like the old songs and the newer ones. But nothing compares to seeing them live.
If you haven't seen them, then check their tour schedule and go ASAP !
My favorite Avett Brothers song. Gets me every time.
Amazing song. I just bought tickets for the November 13th show in Fargo so my day will be spent on youtube listening to their incredible music.
+Tim I'm on the same boat I never thought I'd be able to see them live. Can't believe I'll be able to!
+Jason Carparts I was lucky enough to see them just over two years ago and to say it was amazing would be an understatement. I can confidently say that you will not be disappointed when you see them.
I don't doubt it. I'm so excited. I've been a fan for years and I can finally see them.
+Jason Carparts Where are you seeing them?
Same place as you! Good ole Fargo!
I melt everytime
you melt me lol :)

I love The Avett Brothers in every form, but there is something about these spare songs...
I just found out about these guys, love it!
Prepare to go on an amazing musical journey!
5thBeatleSTi check out jj grey and mofro also
One of my all time favorite songs, and performances!
This is my favorite version of my favorite song by them.
Brothers at their best with these two instrument pairings.
It’s just not fair. Only a pair of brothers could have this incredible connection musically. I truly love how these guys sound together
