"Transform Your Dessert Game with These Heavenly Pineapple Half Moon Pies" Pai Fala Recipe

    Pineapple Pie Half Moon Recipe | Pai Fala
    Pineapple Piecrust ingredients
    • 3 cups of all purpose flour
    • 150 grams of butter
    • 1 cup of coconut cream
    • 1 tsp of baking powder
    • Pinch of salt
    • 2-3 drops of yellow food colouring
    Pineapple Filling ingredients
    • 2 cups of crushed pineapples
    • 1 cup of sugar
    • 1/3 cup of custard powder
    • 1 cup of milk
    • 1/3 cup of reserved pineapple juice
    Easy and Quick Steps
    1. Prepare filling by adding all the ingredients in a pot except for custard powder and pineapple juice
    2. On low medium heat stir them to combine
    3. Mix custard powder and pineapple juice
    4. Add to the pot and keep stirring until it thickens
    5. Add more water if needed
    6. Prepare the pie crust by adding al the dry ingredients
    7. Add butter and rub with hands to combine
    8. Add yellow food colouring drops to coconut cream and mix well
    9. Add to the flour and mix to form a soft dough
    10. Leave the dough to rest for few minutes
    11. Combine the pies by rolling it out to a desired thickness
    12. Use a small plate as your template and transfer pastry onto it
    13. Add filling making sure not to over fill
    14. Wet the edges and fold over the other side to close and use a fork to make patterns and close the edges
    15. Bake @ 180° Celsius for 25 minutes or until they're ready

    I like the food coloring much better than egg wash. Also the idea of refrigerating before cooking was awesome. I made 8 pies today, just now. I refrigerated one tray while working on the second tray. Then, the first tray went from the frig to the oven and the second tray went in the frig. It worked out so well. I forgot to poke the top of the pies to vent, but all came out good and pretty and yummy, and not one bust. I was so proud of myself. Thanks for sharing your recipe, we love it. God Bless.

    Hi milz, I was watching you prepare your half moon pineapple pie and you mentioned that you leave your pineapple fillings in the freezer, but I didn't catch how long the fillings stay in the freezer, im guessing may be 1 to half hour, I also will be baking this recipe, The half moon pineapple pie when I'm done I will also let you know, thank you kindly 🙏

    Thank you sis. I've been saving a old pai fala recipe that I've never gotten around to make. But I decided to look for a different recipe because I was looking for one that has custard in the filling and coconut milk in the crust. Bingo! I'm very excited to find your recipe! It's perfect! I was asked to make either peach or cocktail flavour with different fruits I guessed so that will be coming out soon. Of course I will be using custard too.     So after you mix it and knead it, do you let it rise or you can cut them into pieces right away?

      You can use it straight away. You don’t have to let it rise. There is no yeast used in the recipe. Hope that helps. Thank you so much and apologies for the delay in responding 🙏💜

      Hello Thelma, thank you for your kind feedback. Thank you for sharing with me. I’m happy it turned out okay after your second attempt. I guess it’s true with the saying Practice makes perfect. It takes practise to be able to get good results. The more you do the more ideas you have to add to perfect your artwork. That’s my way of looking at cooking adding my imaginations and ideas sometimes it turn out okay sometimes it turns out burn or hard 😂😂😂 anyway I shall make pai Penu for sure very soon.     I tried ur recipe tonight, I didn’t add the food coloring cause I didn’t have none, it’s a trial an error for me lol but it came out good I think my crust was too thin any suggestions on how to improve this?

    Hey I love this recipe it’s so delicious but what could be the reason my pies aren’t staying closed after baking in oven ? Please Help

      Hello Melissa thank you for your feedback. Appreciate you reaching out. Maybe you’re over filling you pies and the pastry is not closed well. When you leave your pies in the freezer for 10 minutes or more that also help to settle the pineapple filling even the pastry. There is Science involved in a cold pastry from the fridge or freezer into a hot oven. I can’t explain it but it works for me. May I suggest you try the following
      1. Do not over fill your pies
      2. Make your filling a little thicker not too runny
      3. Close the ends well
      4. Leave the pies in the freezer for sometime maybe up to 1/2 hour before you put it straight into your preheated oven to bake.
      Hopefully that helps. Pls let me know Melissa how go. I am also trialling another pie recipe and will be uploading in the next week. I will definitely come back next week. Thanks.       I love your recipe, very easy to follow and love the use of coconut milk as its got its own tastes.
      I also love how you cook your fillings too, no hard work just simple instructions. Awesome 👌. I love your pai Fala. I make a totally different way, but haven't used it as for half moon pie. I use mine for the tray pie. Marangue pies. But, this is delicious talking about it lol... love it. Thank you for sharing with us.. I'm going to change to half moon pie now.

      Hi Denise thank you for stopping by. Yes I didn't add eggs to the this recipe. The pineapple pie in the baking dish I added eggs and it has a different texture too the pastry but for this one I don't add eggs. I only add butter, coconut cream and flour with small amount of sugar. I follow a recipe of one of my aunties with a little tweak to it. I hope that make sense to you. Thank you Denise🙏🏻💕

    I have followed you for so many yummy pastries. I think my dough measurements is wrong it's the butter part. Yours is 150 grams butter and our US conversion is 3/4 cup or 1 stick butter please let me know if that's correct.

      Talofa Ahmanda, I'm so sorry for the late reply. I've been really sick with the flu when we arrived last Sunday here in Utah. The change of weather from our winter weather back home in Melbourne to windy and hot weather here in Utah. Hope you're well with family. Thank you for taking your time to view my contents and recipes. Yes sister that's the conversion on google but now I'm here and trial the pie here with your butter and I used your 1 stick and a half butter and it turned out well too. I guess you play around with your measurements until you get the exact texture of pastry you'll be happy with if that makes sense to you sis. 🙏🏻❤️

    What if we don’t have custard powder…What can I use for substitute?

      Hi Tee. Pls forgive me for the super late response. For some weird reasons I thought I have replied. Anyway if you don't have custard powder you can use corn flour. A lot of people do use corn flour.

      Pineapple Pie Half Moon Recipe I Pai Fala
      Pineapple Piecrust ingredients
      • 3 cups of all purpose flour
      • 150 grams of butter
      • 1 cup of coconut milk
      • 1 tsp of baking powder
      • Pinch of salt
      • 2-3 drops of yellow food colouring
      Pineapple Filling ingredients
      • 2 cups of crushed pineapples
      • 1 cup of sugar
      • 1/3 cup of custard powder
      • 1 cup of milk
      • 1/3 cup of reserved pineapple juice
      Easy and Quick Steps
      1. Prepare filling by adding all the ingredients in a pot except for custard powder and pineapple juice
      2. On low medium heat stir them to combine
      3. Mix custard powder and pineapple juice
      4. Add to the pot and keep stirring until it thickens
      5. Add more water if needed
      6. Prepare the pie crust by adding al the dry ingredients
      7. Add butter and rub with hands to combine
      8. Add yellow food colouring drops to coconut cream and mix well
      9. Add to the flour and mix to form a soft dough
      10. Leave the dough to rest for few minutes
      11. Combine the pies by rolling it out to a desired thickness
      12. Use a small plate as your template and transfer pastry onto it
      13. Add filling making sure not to over fill
      14. Wet the edges and fold over the other side to close and use a fork to make patterns and close the edges
      15. Bake @ 180° Celsius for 25 minutes or until they're ready

    Quick question… in the written recipe you have Coconut milk for the pastry but in the video you kept saying coconut cream. Which should I use? And also, for the butter… is it room temp or cold? I really want to try your recipe but I don’t want to mess it up lol. Sorry, don’t mean to be fa’akiga ulu to you just need a little help lol😂. Love your channel btw… Thank you❤🙏🏼

      Hello Princessiwalani, thank you for pointing that out. It is coconut cream not coconut milk. Sorry I will definitely correct the written recipe. I used straight cold butter from the fridge dear. I've never tried the recipe with room temp butter maybe I should to see the difference in the pastry.       @@mealswithmilz Faafetai, faafetai lava for the response and for the help. So, because I didn’t hear from you before trying the recipe I did it with the rm temp butter and the coconut milk. The pies came out delicious but there was definitely a differenc in the crust compared to your thumbnail lol. Mine was thinner and softer. Still very good but I will try again with the adjustments. Again, thank you for taking the time to help me out. I’m just trying to be like you🥰…. Thanx again, alofa atu❤️🙏🏼

      Hello Natasha, for sure dear. A lot of people use cornstarch instead of custard powder. make it your way. I just like the custard taste to mine but cornstarch is used a lot too by many. alofa atu. Milz🙏🏻❤️
