    Like my mum's Niuean pineapple pie, meringue topping, could be the old way of doing, not to waste the egg whites.

    I have been a baker for years, my husband of almost 30 years is Samoan and finally I have found the recipe I am happy with, basic ingredients, simple method with a fantastic result. I haven't even tried it yet but I know it will work, Awesome Veni...don't stop baking, thank you.

    My mum makes it the same with meringue, not a fan of meringue. My ex hubby who’s fijian grandma made it with cream I much prefer. But love your cooking vlogs cause it’s so simple and so calming! Love you veni!

    Thank you for this awesome recipe! Crust taste very good, tastes like shortbread cookie😍only thing I wasn't sure on was the sugar when mixing with the butter. I put 1 cup instead of 2, only seen it in 1 of your reply comments that it is 2 cups. But it turned out great still and I saved my family from being diabetic for a few weeks🤣🤣🤣🤣Thank you❤

      Hi Setu! so I normally keep the pie base in the oven at about 160 degrees celsius? im not too sure what the farenheit is and for about 50mins or until it has browned / baked right through

    Veni have you ever watched, In the Kitchen with Gina Young? She makes a "Hawaiian dream cake". I'm Hawaiian no disrespect but it's only called that cuz of the crushed pineapples🍍. Lol. Shes amazing n has an adorable voice n recipes in her description. Maybe make that cake w/a Sāmoan flare but using natural stuff like from scratch as you usually do (maybe all except cool whip topping but even that is sugar,gelatin n egg whites + alot of chemicals to stablize it but your way is best). You really should be in culinary school!! Alot of food is made fr scratch not totally processed, over-processrd, ultra-processed like in the stores these days. So fake!

    how long do u leave the pastry to set then add the meringue? or u just add right away

      Hi Jim, i bake the pastry first- once baked, cool and add the custard. Then add the meringue and bake until brown. You can most definitely leave the base to cool and then add custard and brown the meringue - whichever is easier for you

    How many cups of sugar do you mix with the butter for the crust please?

      Hi Maria, add 2 cups. it may come out really soft so if you don't like your crust too soft you can add more flour.

      Hi royalbuff123. You can try I haven't baked it that way before. As long as you bake the pastry base first. Also be sure not to use puff pastry. All the best 💯

    PAI FALA. The name came from when a German soldier brought a village some pineapple pie. The villages asked in Samoan what it was and the German soldier simply replied, I'm just the pie fella. And from that tay on, Pineapple pie was named Pai Fala 😂😂😂✌👍

      Hi Apii, so in this recipe i did 6 eggs separated. But you can start with 3 if you don't want your base too moist. It is just to bind the ingredients together. Let me know how you go. I will be doing another pie recipe soon with a different base recipe too so stay tuned
