I feel like the reason Dominicans use "tú" more frequently than other countries is because they hardly ever pronounce their s's, so saying "tú" before the verb assures the listener that they are speaking in the informal tú and not usted.
Yeah Dominicans would sound overly polite without it

I find it so funny when other Latinos from Latin America say that we ALL DOMINICANS don't pronounce our S's, or that we don't know how to speak Spanish (as if there is one fit all form of Spanish), or why do we use the informal "Tu"? And it really isn't rocket science. We are from a tiny island, we are laid back and care free! "Usted" is used when communicating with elder's or people you have to show respect. "Tu" is used with people you are familiar with.
we do use "usted" as an honorific for elders although it's usually pronounced "uté"

I live in Los Angeles so I'm around Mexican Spanish a lot and barely have any contact with Dominicans....the Dominican accent sounds so charming!

Caribbean Spanish on the whole takes getting used to. You can pick it up. But Chilean Spanish sounds like a whole other language.

I live in The East Coast of the USA I’m Mexican and I live around Dominicans and Boricuas so I’m use to hearing some of their Dialect like “Tato” o “todo ta Heavy” or “un Lambonazo” which sounds cool even The Mexican Americans who speak Spanish here we use some of the phrases that the Caribbean Brothers say on them

in the part of the video in which you ask her about using "tú" a lot, what's interesting is that it's. not just "tú" but also the other pronouns as well but mainly you'll hear "yo" and "tú". It is a caribbean thing. Native speakers outside of the Caribbean will say to not use the pronouns or at least they won't use them but a lot of people still don't know that Caribbean Spanish speakers say them. so instead of saying 'tengo 18 años", theyll say 'yo tengo 18 años'...it's common there.
It's basically a product of "eating" the "s": forms like "tu canta(s)", "el canta" and "usted canta" becomes the same [also "tu esta(s)", "él está" and "usted está" (tu ta/ él ta/ uté ta)], so we need the pronoun "tu" for not getting confused. That's similar to french and english, where you always have to say the pronoun.
PD: sorry for my english, im also dominican and not used to write in english.
in Spanish you can use both ways, and in that specific instance you definitely can use the one with the pronoun without being from the Caribbean.

Nate lo que pasa que desde mexico hasta chile todos hablamos español pero tenemos muchas palabras que quienen decir lo mismo pero con distintas palabras ej. a las tenis en Argentina se dicen zapatillas y en uruguay se dicen championas , el avocado en mexico se llama a la aguacate y en argentina se llama palta.
12:29 Los Aguacates en RD, son super grandes en comparación a los de USA y Mexico. Claro, que varia por temporada, pero aquí regularmente no venden esos aguacates que son del tamaño de un puño cerrado, y el sabor es completamente diferente.
Btw, creo que seria increíble si pudieras comparar los acentos del español de los isleños como Cuba, RD, PR, y las Islas Canarias de España, porque es sorprendente como a pesar de estan tan lejos las culturas son muy similares y la forma de hablar por igual.
P.S : Hace un tiempo alguien me comento que en RD se habla como se canta el merengue y me pareció tan divertido.

2:28 Tiene mucho sentido para mi, un brasileño. En muchas regiones de Brasil, donde se usa el "tu" en lugar de "você" (usted), las personas usan "Como tu tá?", porque "Como tu estás?" es muy formal. De hecho, la mayoria de las personas conjugan los verbos para usted, aunque que utilicen el "tu".
"Você" es más común y menos formal, en Brasil, yo creo.
A gíria espanhola falada na região do Caribe me lembra o português. Às vezes, sendo exposto ao espanhol por um longo tempo, costumo misturar essas gírias com o português.🤣😂
Caribbean Spanish 🇩🇴🇵🇷🇨🇺 is based on Andalusian and the Canary Islands with a mix of a lot of Taino words, and African words influences. and Andalusian Spanish is really really fast. That’s why Caribbean Spanish is really fast.

El Dominicano es un derivado del Canario y Andaluz. Otros derivados son el Boricua, Venezolano, Cubano, Panameño, Colombiano de la Costa Caribeña y Nicaragüense.
Eso es como decir que el ser humano desciende del mono, habrá una conexión, pero decir que uno desciende del otro es hacer como si sus ascendientes comunes fuesen lo mismo que especies actuales.
La elipsis de las consonantes finales es una herencia de Andalucía en España. Su forma de hablar tiene notable similitud con la forma de hablar de los latinos y de los caribeños en particular. Keep it up, Nate!!

El dominicano habla rapidisimo y lo jevi/apero/mortal/bacano/bueno del dominicano es que puede entender todos los acentos latinos pero no todo el mundo puede entendernos a nosotros si hablamos rapido 😀

Estoy de acuerdo contigo Nate que los acentos caribeños cuestan más esfuerzo entender. Habían muchos puertoriqueños cuando vivía en Nueva York. Aunque me gusta la gente, tuve que aprender su forma de hablar de nuevo.

The video is very interesting. Her accent is beatiful, I think in general male Dominican natives have a much deeper more rolling and boisterous accent.( just my untrained opinion. Amber seems sweet and extremely smart and funny very cool and so sooo cute. Nate do you still have a girlfriend? You guys seem to just kind of have some chemistry. But you also seem so out going and friendly... It might be easy to think it's a little flirty. In any case I love the comparison videos with other Spanish speakers.
The Dominican accent depends on the region and how the person was brought up. Some of them tone down the accent a bit in situations that require them to be a bit more formal. Campesinos have a pretty thick accent that makes it harder to hide. It's funny because they end up putting extra S's and R's where it doesn't belong

Nate, Im going to be honest with you. The Mexican accent is perfect for first time learners because it's easier to understand and easy to pronounce, but it comes at a cost, and that is the "cool" factor.
You need to spice up your accent or level up to some other "harder"(for learners) accents, like Venezuelean, Panamanian or Neutral Peruvian for instance . Colombia has some cool accent as well...
Mi esposa es dominicana y cuando nos casamos yo creía que íbamos a hablar español en casa pero no. Ella habla perfectamente inglés. Casi nunca habla español así que no sé mucho del español dominicano. En este vídeo los subtítulos en español habrían de mucha ayuda para entender mejor a Ámbar. No tuve problema con el español de Nate pero a veces no pude oír bien a Ámbar

I’m white like Nate and my wife is from the Dominican Republic. It took me awhile to get used to hear Spanish because I had never dated nor even talked with a Dominicana before but shortly after meeting her I could understand her and her slang expressions very well. Marrying her is the best thing I’ve ever done second to accepting Jesus Christ as my savior. I think Dominicanas are the best kept secret in this part of the world.

Mexican is the easiest for non-natives. It has very simple pronunciation. It's much slower, and it's very drawn out. But that can make it seem very dull to some other native speakers. Canary island Spanish was voted the prettiest by people in Spain. It's spoken very fast and pronunciation may be more challenging for beginners.
Caribbean Spanish is derived from the Canary Islands/Andalucia - omitting the D, dropping the S etc. Of course it's evolved as Cubans don't sound like Boricuas or Dominicans but it's very surprising to here Canarios sounding like Boricuas when you visit
