- Several firefighters in the city of Rockville suddenly resigned, and will hang up their equipment in the next month. The news shocked the city. FOX 9's Kelly O'Connell has the details.

I have family in this line of work and mostly they are appreciated by everyone and treated thusly. This is a job absolutely few people on earth have the b..les to do. Someone higher up has made these people feel unappreciated and disrespected or put their lives in danger, for this board to act so shocked is for the cameras. This had to be the last resort for anyone to pay attention to their plight. (Plight is a dangerous or difficult and unsafe situation) Most likely the equipment is not to standards and these men feel they are putting not just the lives in danger but also the lives of the public or they have had their pay cut or have had to hire individuals for equality and not because they are qualified for the JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm a Firefighter, & can concur to this reasoning. We are no longer hiring the most qualified persons for this dangerous job. I'll leave it at that.
Our best friend moved from Erie to Baltimore to join their FD. He said the city council was abhorrent in how they treated the FD. He stayed 5 years and moved back to Erie, went back to being a VFD.

It would be nice to know the truth; apparently, all we have is common taters spouting unsupported opinions out of their arses. The video offers no insight whatsoever. Sadly, this is SOP for "news" outlets nowadays. It might take some time, but eventually the facts will come out. Most people on the planet have never heard of Rockville, MN, but since the yewtoob algorithm has sent this to so many people, it would be satisfying to learn what actually happened. The majority of comments assume that the City Council is evil, and the firefighters are all wholesome angels. That may or may not be the case, but so far I have seen no evidence either way.
Call them back. Give them a pay raise, double. These are modern heroes. Not brutal and corrupt cops
I would guess that they cut equipment funds and or dismissed some of the firefighters to save money!

Maybe like many cities of its size perhaps Rockville doesn't need that the same number of firefighters or even police. City leadership and citizens should take advantage of this opportunity to right-size both fire & police. Audit them thoroughly. You might be able to be as safe with a much smaller department for both police & fire. They should not be sacred cows.
Bravo and if your house is on fire, will you be happy the fire department "right sized"? Hmm?

Chief, 2 assistant chiefs, 2 captains, and a secretary? The town has 3,000ish people, it needs all that? I support firefighters but some towns have to many unnecessary ones, i live in a suburb of 50,000 we have 5 different stations, and dozens and dozens of full time employees. In 13 years ive maybe seen 3 house fires, lots of accidents where they sweep broken glass.
It's a volunteer department that serves a large rural area, not just the city
@@PaulZwilling-oz6de Most volunteer firefighters still receive some compensation, large is debatable as Cold Spring and Waite Park cover most of that rural area.
You need to find out the difference between paid and volunteer fire fighters. Volunteers usually get paid something, but not like full time.

Nice integrity! *Scoffs - Doing something like this as a stunt, only harms those in need of fire protection service, now others will have to do it, when you were a trained and trusted individual? May I point out to the residents of this town that your house insurance bill is directly related to proximity of a fire house to your home as well as the proximity of fire hydrants to your home. The fewer fire fighters you have and the fewer fire trucks you have governs the cost of your house insurance. I live on the edge of my city and county. There homes on city side and farm fields on the abutting country. The people who live scattered through the fields have to pay higher home owners insurance because their fire service has to cover a larger area.
For those of you who think your fire department is too big please do your research. Once you start I think you will find many things that are required of your department that you were unaware of. I live in Indianapolis, IN. Every year the national fire fighters conference takes place at our convention center and Lucas Oil stadium. The convention center occupies a city block. There are skyways from our hotels to the center as well as a tunnel from the center to Lucas Oil. During the convention Lucas Oil is used to display the latest in the world of fire trucks. They can extend the ladders on ladder trucks and many other demonstrations.
They probably just happened upon a bunch of unclaimed money during a fire, split it between each other and decided to retire. 🤔💰💰💰🤫
