Sometimes I couldn’t tell if Simba was sad. Sure I heard the I’m sorry dad crying voice but the lion look like he was saying it with a straight face. Hard to show emotion on cgi animals.
James actually had to redo his lines to have less emotion behind them. Reason being because the lions didn't have faces that showed emotion, the voices needed to match.
I much preferred the original where Scar stabs his claws into Mufasa, the soft whisper into Mufasas ear “...long live the king...” as he looks his writhing brother and throws him off the ledge
I personally think that the new version also doesn’t really fit his character. Tho OG establishes that Mufasa got the brawns while Scar got the brains, which is why Scar comes up with the plan with the Wildebeests to trample him to death. If he tried to fight Mufasa, he’d get his ass beat hard. That’s carried even more so when his claws stuck in Mufasa’s on the cliff. He’s proud of himself. His plan worked. And he’s gonna let Mufasa know as he slowly says, “Long.. live.. the King.” His brother looks at him, with horror in his eyes as he realizes what he’s about to do as Scar lets him fall to his death. In the new version, Scar just bitch slaps him off the cliff AND his delivery is so fast we don’t see Mufasa’s reaction as he falls to death(which is ultimately fine since none of the characters have any sort of facial expressions at all). One issue, aside from many, I have with these Disney remakes is that they make such tiny and small changes to certain scenes that you think wouldn’t be noticeable, but ultimately make those scenes not hit nearly as hard as they should. They lack the nuance that made the originals classics.

@@sierrafaith403 Not defending anything but as someone whose grandfather is 88 years old. People that old can't do much and considering how much it sounds like poor old Earl was struggling through his lines, I don't doubt he was any different.
8:12- it's kind of amazing how underwhelming the scene of Scar killing Mufassa was compared to the original. Scar just kinda blankly stares at him with those near lifeless eyes, ironic considering this is supposed to be like real life. It's almost too realistic to even be realistic.
I liked this version cause it was so different, it felt more like a war chant than a song, but yeah I agree the original, of course, is definitely way better.
Natalie Chua Not Disney’s fault. They weren’t going to have the song in the movie at all but people just had to bitch and moan about it which gave us the short version.
@@cintronproductions9430 I don't get as to why they thought that would work. The original was an animated movie involving talking animals in Africa where no humans appear at all and the actors gave vocal performances for their characters, not acting on a set like you would in live action. The original cast had a mix of white and black actors and nobody made a big deal about actors like Moria Kelly, Matthew Broderick, and James Earl Jones playing lions that live in the same environment. The directors picked those actors because they thought that they were the right choice for the characters they wanted them to be portrayed. They were voice acting, so race didn't matter in that case, so why did they do this attempt here? It failed because everyone felt miscast.
“This movie exists” 1 sin. 1 sin? Only 1. Really? No no no no. We can’t have that. The fact this movie exists means the sin counter should be... *OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!!!!!!!!*
The Be prepared scene was one my favorite parts of the original, and they completely butchered it the new remake! It just lacked that menacing evil tone of how scar was in the original. Idk I just felt rushed to me like the rest of this movie was.
"You'd think all that horrible stuff with scar would dull Nala's horny, but it hasn't." Nah, considering Scar is apparently the only male Lion in that place that we see obvious, if anything she's been pissed off because she hasn't gotten laid and no fancy suitors for her, so seeing Simba was like wishing Santa for a new (boy) toy.
@@yoshi_chuck05 I think I remember a cut scene from the cartoon Lion King where Scar was overly flirty with Simba's mother, to no success. As if implying he tried hard to solve that.
My cat loves the animated lion king so much that he stands in front of the screen for the whole movie every time we watch it, but he wants nothing to do with this. He was more amused by the werewolves in twilight.😂😂😂
I never knew I wanted to have people speak their songs and see beloved childhood characters turned to weird uncanny valley looking animals until I saw this brilliant masterpiece.
yeah, i don't get it, what the fuck is Disney Studios thinking, so glad i don't have Disney+, i wish i could smack the shit outta the corporate douche-bag that green lighted this trashcan fire of a remake.
When this came out, I watched sooooo many videos just ripping this movie apart and quite a few of them at the very least mentioned if not full on discuss how emotions on a cgi lion worked way better on Aslan than in this movie
Well yes, but Mufasa's appearance in the scene where Jeremy makes that comment looks almost exactly like a scene from the 2005 Lion/Witch/Wardrobe movie.
It’s not that he looked more realistic, it’s that Aslan could emote better than the animals in this movie because the creators of narnia weren’t so obsessed with realism. The animals in this remake look realistic yet emotionally stunted.
That’s basically every live action remake in a nutshell. The cartoony styles of the originals have lots of charm and energy and when they are remade to live action, it just becomes dull and soulless, with probably The Lion King remake being the best/worst example (but I wouldn’t be surprised if that honor/dishonor could belong to The Little Mermaid remake that comes out soon)
While I did like the new lyrics at first the song just skips to the final chorus which makes no sense. HOW do you take one of Disney's most BELOVED villain songs and make it half the length? How does that even work?
@@KareemHarper true, though the fact he has to compete with his own younger performance makes it too obvious and further shows Disney was only thinking "if we get the original voice of Mufasa, no one will complain. Who cares if he sounds too old now. No one will notice". Yeah, Disney. We noticed. Ya wanna know how? WE HAVE THE ORIGINAL MOVIE!
That was one thing I noticed immediately. James just sounded so bored, he barely emoted and literally sounded like he was just flatly reading the lines out. They all did... Pumbaa and Timon's actors were the only ones that actually attempted to interject any personality into the characters they were playing.
@@KareemHarper Umm, no. Christopher Plummer is 89 years old and is still acting his butt off in movies like All the Money in the World and most recently, Knives Out, so age should not excuse acting ability.
So, on the Scar’s real name thing: his parents named him “Taka”, which means “Waste” or “Trash”. He later got nicknamed Scar due to getting his scar in a fight. I think Mufasa’s name meant king, so yeah... they named their kids King and Waste. I wonder who the favorite was? 🤔
The way scar said long live the king in this movie was just so much less menacing than the original. Sounded more full of angst than actual fear inducing intent
It's a Pixar movie, Pixar would never dare to make a live action adaptation of their movies, it's pointless and many of their movies don't really work in live action especially Finding Nemo, Toy Story and Ratatouille, imagine those movies in live action
I think the biggest sin here is that with going "live action" they took all the personality out of the look of each character. The facial expressions are so weak for the sake of realism. There's no personality and just, simply, not enough emotion. The lack of expression means that people rely on the lines even more to feel the emotion in the scene and that emotion just isn't there in the lines, so many scenes end up falling short of having the power they needed to have because the expressions were so muted for the sake of realism and the lines weren't done with nearly enough passion to make up for that.
What pisses me off the most about this remake is the fact they didn't darken Scar's mane. Like, that's an actual thing in lion's. Some lion's have dark fur and almost black manes. They could've kept it, but nope! They made him some ashy little weirdo with an anatomically incorrect face.
Po Omega But Askari is the name of the original lion guard leader in the Lion Guard Now I don’t know your feelings on that show but I just felt that needed to be said
Wow, James Earl Jones reading these lines again with so little emotion. Makes it sound like even he knew this was stupid, but the paycheck was good. In fact a lot of these performances are damn flat.
Same thing when he voices Vader in Rogue One. He's old and tired. Should have casted someone that could imitate for Vader, and just do a complete recast in this. Also, Beyoncé ruined every song. She sang them like it was an audition for American Idol, completely messing up the harmony. They are songs - not a demo reel to show off your vocal range.
Is "CGI lions doing it" a - the name of an unsuccessful hipster ska band from California. b - deleted scenes from Lucy. c - Detroit american football fans' only solace since Matthew Stafford was drafted. d - what my college girlfriend was focused on while trying to fake orgasms.
That is what happens when all your actors in the original completely 100% nail their parts. Then some company, lets say for example Disney, is all like "Lets do it all again, just umm somehow better than the people who did it perfect before you. Your motivation is umm something about the best whatever movie because we probably wont try to remake in again in the future and tell those actors the same thing we are telling you.... Umm make us money, er I mean try....to .... do..... better...... than.... the....original.....perfection?"
Be prepared was always my favourite Villain song, and I like this version. Sure it's different but I don't think it's as bad as I see some people say it is. But then it's all about taste. Some will like it, some won't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I love how so many of the sins in this movie were actual sins and not just poking fun at this being the remake. It's like he's using this live action version as a second look at the overall movie in general, to pick up more sins he missed the first time around XD
The new voice actor for Scar should not be allowed to act ever again for his disgraceful performance as Scar. Not even non speaking roles. What he did with Be Prepared is enough of a reason for this. The English just make great villains
@GGR Games I kind of want to see them make it, just to see how they would do anthoarthropods... Hopefully it doesn't end up looking like "Cats". *shivers in disgust*
I think it's not just realism as a factor. Other Disney movies that have gone for realistic animals still stylised them, giving the characters a range of expressions that are absent in the Lion King remake.
Did anyone actually get really mad that Be Prepared wasn’t really even a song? It’s my favorite song from the movie and I was TICKED that they made it more of a monologue.

There should be a sin for no “past can hurt” speech from Rafiki. I mean that one of the best moments in Lion King can’t believe they didn’t include it.

Very disappointing indeed. Rafiki only used a staff at the end in this movie, so no hitting Simba over the head to make the point.
You can practically hear James Earl Jones in the recording booth questioning why the hell he has to say these lines again when he got it right the first time around. He has little to no emotion in his voice compared to the original. He sounds tired.

I mean, the Star Wars franchise dragged him back briefly, and he sounded tired there too
Dixie Cronin But he actually tried in what they brought him back for. Rebels was my favorite show as a kid, and I remember how awesome that voice was compared to Matt Sloan’s in the LEGO parodies. I also saw Rogue One in theaters, and he was absolutely incredible. What he was brought back was something he wanted to try, and he didn’t want to try in this movie.
You have a point, but I would credit that to his age. He was already old in the original.

The original “Be Prepared” was way better.
To be fair, the original _everything_ was better
I liked this version cause it was so different, it felt more like a war chant than a song, but yeah I agree the original, of course, is definitely way better.

They didn't ask him to return because they wanted all the lions to be voiced by black people. I guess.

As if it would even manage to make this garbage fire movie better. But still a fair sin.

"can you feel the love this afternoon?"
Doesn't ring to well!
Even Elton John hated this movie !
"Aslan?!"
First of all, how dare you.
Aslan looked WAY more realistic than any of the lions in this movie
When this came out, I watched sooooo many videos just ripping this movie apart and quite a few of them at the very least mentioned if not full on discuss how emotions on a cgi lion worked way better on Aslan than in this movie
Well yes, but Mufasa's appearance in the scene where Jeremy makes that comment looks almost exactly like a scene from the 2005 Lion/Witch/Wardrobe movie.
Well in that particular scene it did look like aslan bruh
The fact that the chronicles of Narnia movies message to get more expression out of the animals than in this movie, is just hilarious to me.
It’s not that he looked more realistic, it’s that Aslan could emote better than the animals in this movie because the creators of narnia weren’t so obsessed with realism. The animals in this remake look realistic yet emotionally stunted.
Making this movie hyperrealistic just made it lose all the charm it once had
That’s basically every live action remake in a nutshell. The cartoony styles of the originals have lots of charm and energy and when they are remade to live action, it just becomes dull and soulless, with probably The Lion King remake being the best/worst example (but I wouldn’t be surprised if that honor/dishonor could belong to The Little Mermaid remake that comes out soon)
The biggest sin is that "Be Prepared", one of the GREATEST Disney songs ever, was reduced to... that.
Yup. My fave song in the original, I was looking forward to it in this one. Buuuuuuuut....
Yup!! It's disappointing. Such a missed opportunity
Let's be honest, all songs were massacred to some extent.
@Juan Cortez Muro This isn't instagram, fuck off with that self-promotion.
While I did like the new lyrics at first the song just skips to the final chorus which makes no sense. HOW do you take one of Disney's most BELOVED villain songs and make it half the length? How does that even work?
Also, for being as "realistic" as they could animate this, the animals have no genitalia. Something I noted watching this in theatres.
Jennifer Saputo lmao I also noticed this but lion balls are very... obvious and might have been distracting 😂 😂 😂

@@francoisburnette901 And his ambitions. The studio was just the money machine to fuel said ambitions.
I'm 99% sure Zazu is the sole inspiration for the entirety of CinemaSins.
I think the biggest sin here is that with going "live action" they took all the personality out of the look of each character. The facial expressions are so weak for the sake of realism. There's no personality and just, simply, not enough emotion. The lack of expression means that people rely on the lines even more to feel the emotion in the scene and that emotion just isn't there in the lines, so many scenes end up falling short of having the power they needed to have because the expressions were so muted for the sake of realism and the lines weren't done with nearly enough passion to make up for that.
yeah, i dont get how they managed that when so many documentaries add a narrative and emotion over real animals actions.
What pisses me off the most about this remake is the fact they didn't darken Scar's mane. Like, that's an actual thing in lion's. Some lion's have dark fur and almost black manes. They could've kept it, but nope! They made him some ashy little weirdo with an anatomically incorrect face.
