Igor Schmidlapp Agreed. Any version where he shows up at Cratchit’s house is an automatic fail. But yeah, my favorite is the Patrick Stewart one. Not the most popular but I like their approach to it and the general lack of musical numbers (ugh) outside of people enjoying music in the ways that people actually do.

It was written more as a ghost story than a Christmas story. It used to be customary to tell ghost stories at Christmas at the time Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol.
Okay I literally LOVE this movie! I grew up with this and it gave me trauma as a kid due to how absolutely UNSETTLING it was, yet GOD DAMN I LOVED how creepy it was! But like--seriously... This scared me BAD as a kid. (I still love it lol) The long drawn out scenes make for great tension! Like the chains being dragged just beyond the door... Yes it could have been shorter, but it would have cut down on that surprise when the unexpected ghost chains and chests were thrown at us!
This movie is amazing in every way. Probably the most accurate retelling of the classic story. The CGI is top notch and doesn't look like it's a decade old. The acting is fantastic - Jim Carrey excels in every single roll. With all of that said, I appreciate your comedic interpretation! Very fun. Thanks
10:53 I object to this sin. 57 was fairly old in the 1850s, considering life was BRUTAL by comparison with today. Cities were filthy, indoor plumbing was barely a thing, disease was poorly understood, and hospital care basically amounted to "stick some leeches on and call me in the morning, if you live". You'd look like hell too if you were pushing sixty in those circumstances.
I just saw that movie. That was a lot better than it was advertised. I'm so grateful that I didn't go see it in theaters. I would have had to watch it with my mum. Not the kind of movie you want to spend bonding time over. Wait that came out wrong. And so did that. 🤦🏻♀️
I can only imagine the conversation that lead to this movie being made went like this. "Let's make a CGI Christmas Carol" "But there's so many versions. How will we make it stand out?" "We'll make it as annoying as possible" "Good plan. But how?" "Jim Carrey"
When your first name is Jacob and your middle name is Marley… Yeah- thank god it’s not my last name though. Then I would get picked on even more. 💀 I feel ya buddy; my class is reading/studying A Christmas Carol at the moment and I have to deal with their jokes that they just can’t seem to get enough of lmao-
Still my favourite Christmas movie till this day. Sure, it's scary, but I still think that the animation is good, I honestly have no idea why people say its horrible or even complain that its not Christmassy. Its the most accurate depiction of the Charles Dickens book.
That's Why It's So Funny! Allow me to explain the joke and subsequently kill it. Usually when CS says the phrase, "character survives this" the this they are referring to is some unrealistic near death action. This joke is particularly funny in this video because it is both accurate and paradoxical to how this sin is usually set up. Obviously humans (regardless of age) can die from any mundane thing. I never framed my comment as a question.
Fun fact, the ghost of Christmas present is based off the original idea of Father Christmas (Santa) He used to be pictured in green In the 1920s drinks company white rock put him in red in one of their adverts followed by coca cola doing the same thing
3:55 - Does the narrator never heard of the phrase "shock"? If you were sitting in your bedroom at night and this happened, there is a distinct possibility your body would go into shock and freeze.
I had to watch this film MANY times for my English mock exams, I've sat through dissecting this film about 20 times and even after that painful couple of months. I still love this movie, It's definitely in my top 5 Christmas films.
4:59 Chairs have spirits in that world? Is that the punishment of someone who was unsupportive in life? A furniture thief? Dangit, now I want a backstory about the spirit of Scrooge's chair! *DING*
I don’t care what anyone says, it’s still my favourite version of A Christmas Carol, purely because it’s easily one of the most faithful to the source material.
Okay this one had me in stitches 😂 mostly the jokes pertaining to Scrooge’s physical build and age, like his vertebrae being like jenga blocks, or the joe Pesci falling down the stairs in home alone jokes 🤣🤣🤣

@@MsSanaKim the muppets one is surprisingly accurate. My english teacher keeps telling us to watch it (cause it's in the english GSCE) as it's the most accurate
Oh my goodness , I love this movie. It always freaked me out as a kid, though. The entire thing feels like a fever dream. 👌the first time I saw it I think I actually cried from the jaw unhinging and the creepy as heck Spector of death. Why did they make the ghost of Christmas yet to come so stinking creepy?
I like the opening scene with Scrooge paying for Marley's burial not because it shows how greedy he is (there's PLENTY of story to make that point), but how it shows how TERRIFIED he is of parting with ANY amount of money. He's a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching covetous old sinner because (as he puts it later in the movie) there's nothing that frightens him more than a lifetime doomed to poverty. Look at how the undertaker is framed as he's holding his hand out to Scrooge; it almost looks like he's MUGGING the poor guy. Come on, Marley's shtick with his nearly-severed jaw wasn't worthy of a sin? Nobody cares about Scrooge's backstory? Since when? We want redemption for a good person who has lost his way, not some unrepentant asshole who's evil just for evil's sake. We kinda need the backstory to learn about the good person he was, and we want him to return to BEING that good person. Sure, we all love the Twilight Zone 3rd act of It's a Wonderful Life, but without all of George Bailey's backstory that got us to that point, it's meaningless. 7:59 - That's not an anti-religious message that was crammed into the story, it's a bit from the book that's usually omitted from screen adaptations which REALLY needed to be said at the time of this movie's release. This was back when reports of molestation from Catholic priests were spreading like wildfire. Scrooge calls out the Ghost for his part in closing places of business on the Sabbath, preventing people of lower means from being able to cook their food, similar to how a lot of people at the time were calling out the validity of the church when SO MANY horrible things were happening, particularly to CHILDREN. The Ghost is outright telling Scrooge (and the audience) "These people aren't acting on OUR behalf. Don't judge US because of a few bad eggs." And this is a message that really needs to be applied to EVERY group of EVERY kind. It'd be a faux-pas to condemn all of Islam just because a few Muslims decided to become terrorists, right? We need to adopt that attitude towards EVERYONE. Thank you for keeping that bit of the book in this movie, Mr. Zemeckis. And yes, ding the carriage chase with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come as a sin, but you missed the most important part of WHY it's a sin. Scrooge may be terrified by this grim specter of death, but he understands that the ghost is there to do him good, hence his insistence that he "lead on" since "the night is waning fast." The ghost has no reason to chase down this willing soul, and Scrooge has no reason to run from this spirit of good intent.

Not gonna lie, this movie still scares me
It was written more as a ghost story than a Christmas story. It used to be customary to tell ghost stories at Christmas at the time Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol.
Let's be honest here, the best Christmas Carol involves Scrooge McDuck
I'm partial to the Muppets version, but that's a great one too.
Yes

Muppets, McDuck, Mr. Magoo.
There was a time when i constantly used his "bah, humbug!", well actually the translated to my language version "bah, bubbole!" 😂

Okay I literally LOVE this movie! I grew up with this and it gave me trauma as a kid due to how absolutely UNSETTLING it was, yet GOD DAMN I LOVED how creepy it was! But like--seriously... This scared me BAD as a kid. (I still love it lol)
The long drawn out scenes make for great tension! Like the chains being dragged just beyond the door... Yes it could have been shorter, but it would have cut down on that surprise when the unexpected ghost chains and chests were thrown at us!
Agreed
This movie is amazing in every way. Probably the most accurate retelling of the classic story. The CGI is top notch and doesn't look like it's a decade old. The acting is fantastic - Jim Carrey excels in every single roll. With all of that said, I appreciate your comedic interpretation! Very fun. Thanks
I disagree with literally everything single thing you've written

10:53 I object to this sin. 57 was fairly old in the 1850s, considering life was BRUTAL by comparison with today. Cities were filthy, indoor plumbing was barely a thing, disease was poorly understood, and hospital care basically amounted to "stick some leeches on and call me in the morning, if you live". You'd look like hell too if you were pushing sixty in those circumstances.
So...cinema sins is gearing up for christmas i guess.waiting for "Everything wrong with The polar express"

I just saw that movie. That was a lot better than it was advertised. I'm so grateful that I didn't go see it in theaters. I would have had to watch it with my mum. Not the kind of movie you want to spend bonding time over. Wait that came out wrong. And so did that. 🤦🏻♀️

"Let's make a CGI Christmas Carol"
"But there's so many versions. How will we make it stand out?"

"Good plan. But how?"
"Jim Carrey"

Still my favourite Christmas movie till this day. Sure, it's scary, but I still think that the animation is good, I honestly have no idea why people say its horrible or even complain that its not Christmassy. Its the most accurate depiction of the Charles Dickens book.

Smokey McJoint Solid point. It’s probably at the local library if money is tight. Carrey did do a great job, though.

Fun fact, the ghost of Christmas present is based off the original idea of Father Christmas (Santa)
He used to be pictured in green
In the 1920s drinks company white rock put him in red in one of their adverts followed by coca cola doing the same thing
Thus the beginning of the Christmas movie sins 2019
It already began with his last Christmas sin of this year Elf.
Wait...this movie has less sins than A Muppet Christmas Carol?!?!?! In what universe?
That's what happens when people make christmas movies but they're still in the Halloween spirit. I love it!

Oh my goodness , I love this movie. It always freaked me out as a kid, though. The entire thing feels like a fever dream. 👌the first time I saw it I think I actually cried from the jaw unhinging and the creepy as heck Spector of death. Why did they make the ghost of Christmas yet to come so stinking creepy?
the kingsman ending works to well then having colin firth as a credit right after is the icing on the cake!!
