    I hate this new UA-cam comments layout. Not sure if anyone else has it. Anyway, the case reviews are FULLY BACK into rotation! Super excited about this! We debuted the new testing with the North XL, but now we've 100% locked-in our test hardware, heat load, and tests. Will have a methods piece on it now that it's done. What's the interest level in the Antec C8 and the Corsair 6500? We're considering running those next. Let us know!
    Watch our Fractal North XL review that kicked off the new testing! We've updated some tests since then, too! ua-cam.com/video/aQHKCjuYTVQ/v-deo.html

      It'd be nice if you could please check out the H6 Flow by NZXT, I'm curious as to if its diagonally-placed front fans are more effective as opposed to, say the Lian Li O11's front fan design. Additionally, at least here in Canada, it's a fair bit cheaper than most of the other panoramic cases, which makes it a unique option. Have a great day Steve!

      For what its worth, I went from a mid/mid-full case to a Fractal Terra build recently and I love it. At least based on the Terra, Fractal really has some crazy good attention to detail and style, better than Corsair in my opinion right now, and before this Corsair was my go to.

      @@joel6513I did two separate builds, one in the north and one in the terra. The north was tough to build in but I also put in a ASRock 7900xtx so that's my own damn fault. The terra was a breeze to build in and was a really enjoyable build! The toughest part was cable managing at least somewhat to make it all fit

    I just built a new rig (finally!) last week, and I was really torn between a Hyte case and the Fractal North. I ended getting the North XL cause it came 3 pre wired 120x fans. Saved me ~$45. But to be honest the real reason I chose fractal is I learned ibuypower was associated with Hyte. Maybe thats not fair, but its just how my thought process went. I will say though, in general, it is so worth paying a premium for a nice case. It just makes everything so much easier.

    Was lucky and got my hands on a Y70 Touch (Red) close to release, and holy hell I love this damned thing. Building in it was great, my GPU + CPU loop with dual 360 rads looks amazing in it, and the screen is a fun little thing to mess with and have my hardware info on, or a calculator, or play Tetris, lol. Plus their customer service was amazing; had a bad front I/O on my unit, and within an hour of my initial email, they'd written back twice and had a new front I/O kit sent out to me, only needing my case's serial number and an address to ship to. I'll fully admit, it's a vanity case that's more looks than anything, but so far my temps are holding great, and I couldn't be happier with how it looks on my desk.

      @alecjahn 8 місяців тому +5

      I've been thinking the same. I'm considering the Fractal Pop, but I don't know how it works once you populate that bay with a drive. Can you still put the cover over the top to keep it looking classy, is that cover weird to remove over and over whenever you need the drive, does it look super silly if you leave the cover off... etc etc. Seems like all the reviews I've seen just say "yep, it as a 5.25 bay if you're some weirdo who still wants it..." and I say "Well, I'm that weirdo... so... how well does it work?"
      EDIT/UPDATE:
      I hadn't looked into it in a while, and after a quick search:
      it doesn't look too bad with the cover removed (but definitely not as sleek). It would be pretty cool if they sold a faceplate (or two side wings) that class it up a little. I suppose I don't use an optical drive THAT often (couple dozen times a year?), so I could just remove the cover when needed. I mostly burn discs for old systems or occasionally access old file/video backups.
      As a bonus I see people using the second bay to slap-in a flash memory reader which I definitely miss having on my old build (instead of a random USB thing flopped on my desk).

    • @FilthEffect
      @FilthEffect 8 місяців тому

      You can still get fractal core 1000s. No space for cable management, but you can route them behind the mounting bracket for your storage drives, or under the 5.25 Bay. Only has two 120mm intake fan mounts on the front and side, though. And one 92mm rear fan. So I wouldn't put top spec components inside it.

    • @celeriumlerium8266
      @celeriumlerium8266 8 місяців тому +3

      @@alecjahn You can still put the cover on the pop if you put a 5.25 drive into it, the clips for the cover are not blocked by the drive but the cover will obviously prevent use of the drive if its on. Problem is the huge PSU shroud makes it so your GPU has no airflow, id pass if you have a 3 slot or bigger card.

    I've got a black Y60 and absolutely love it! The build quality as you said Steve is outstanding. I'm happy to see them continue that route while making improvements. I'm torn about the fans not being included, they probably realize that most people who are building a PC are going to either have their own fans or want to install an entire ecosystem like Corsair. So rather than the consumer having to uninstall all the case fans to put their own in they just stopped putting them in. Granted they need to be charging less for this because of that, I can't see the size making the components that much more than the Y60.
    That AIO they make is amazing and wish I had waited a few months before I built my system kus I would have saved a lot of time and money dealing with Corsair -_- I'd never buy a Corsair case especially if it's got that classic Corsair markup, with a crappy build quality... just like all their other products. HYTE is killing it! I can't believe a company copied them completely, didn't even try to hide it... and failed lol the case looks like it was made by children lol

    I never was much for this style of case, even after building in a Montech Sky Two. I got to build in a Y70 Touch yesterday and my goodness was it a pleasure to build in and looked great by the time I was done. The guy kitted it out with Lian Li infinity uni fans all around, with reversed blades on the side and bottom, and they are a perfect fit for looks. He also had a Lian Li edge PSU, which also worked perfectly in this case.
    I've now been thinking about switching up my wishlist to something similar to that one. Having the best thermals is fine and all, but I'd be willing to give up a bit of that to have a Y70 now with a similar layout. It really is a case to strongly consider if you want good looks and ease of use features.

    • @Nareimooncatt
      @Nareimooncatt 29 днів тому +1

      @@ChaosGoddessRaven easily. 3 up top, 3 on the side, and 1 rear (or a 140mm).
      The bottom can fit 3 120mm, but takes some work due to the cutout. You first have to put the fans in the case loose and run the wires. If using the uni-fans, you can slot two together, but you'll have to get them and the last one into the case before you can slot the last one together. You need to be able to overlap them to get in it. After all that, THEN you remount the fan frame and start screwing the fans to the frame. Not every fan hole will be able to be used due to the cutout, but wasn't a problem in this instance. The rubber bumpers on the fans prevented vibration noise and they all fit rigidly.
      The instructions make it look like you can mount the fans to the bottom frame first and then slide it all in, but that is not possible with 3 fans.

I'm pretty much building my second PC and while I would like to go cheaper, I figured if I'm gonna be building a whole new PC I might as well just go all out as much as my paycheck allows without going into financial risk. Not to mention, I don't want to have to upgrade for years to come so my best bet is upgrading now to more recent parts. Plus most of mine were recommended by a friend of mine.

    • @ChaosGoddessRaven
      @ChaosGoddessRaven 29 днів тому

      @@Nareimooncatt Would I want the fans on the bottom to be reverse blades? Because if I'm going for 10 fans, and with 3 on top and the side, I'd assume the 140mm in the rear would be outtake, and the other 6, (top and side) would be intake.
      I doubt anybody would be wanting intake from the bottom due to risk of dust and particulate small enough to go through.
      This is only my second build, and I want to be able to have enough cooling power for my GPU (GeForce RTX 4070ti Super) and CPU (AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D) and I'm also doing a lot of research, which I never did with my current and I'm bottlenecking my cpu a bit (the poor thing xD)

    • @Nareimooncatt
      @Nareimooncatt 29 днів тому +1

      @@ChaosGoddessRaven the ones on the bottom would be largely hidden by the case slats. Ideally they would be reverse blades, but not essential. There's is a filter to keep stuff out, but you do have to put the case on its side to remove it to clean.
      If you are using an AIO cooler. I would do bottom and side as intake reverse blades, then rear and top as exhaust with normal blades if the AIO is top mounted. If the AIO will be side mounted, then I would set that as exhaust with normal blades, top and bottom intake with reverse blades.
      If using an air cooler, I would do side and bottom intake with reverse blades and rear exhaust with normal blades. I probably wouldn't even use the top slots at all. The only reason I would use more fans with an AIO would be to ensure I maintain a positive pressure airflow. Negative pressure can let dust in through the rear due to lack of filter.

    I shudder to think about how aggressive HYTE would go with its branding were it to branch out to other components... They really missed an opportunity to have a great big H for a power button, though.
    I finally got around to getting a Fractal Torrent after years of dreaming about getting one, all thanks to seeing your channel review it when it first came out onto the market. Definitely made a huge difference to thermals, and it's really nice to finally have a quiet system that doesn't struggle to keep cool.

    I bought the Y60 last year. I added a LCD screen inside the case (with a 3D printed piece). I chose the Y60 over the Lian-Li 011D as I thought it was more aesthetically pleasing especially with my end goal of a high-end liquid cooled build. I looked at the Fractal North and while beautiful wasn't for me, as I'm not into the minimalist aesthetic and it would hide components I wanted to display. Your review is spot on though. The thermals are an issue especially with the 40 series of GPUs as I've had to remove the side glass panel to allow for better airflow until I find the time to modify my GPU to be liquid cooled.

    I recently moved my stuff into the Y70 non touch screen from the Phanteks NV7, and I LOVE this case! One of the nicer cases I have used and allowed me to easily vertical mount my 4090 and still have room for some decor inside of it. For me the touchscreen would take away from whats inside for me personally. I really liked how easy it was to pass cables through the gromets for sure. The branding on the black for my build, is mostly hidden other than the riser connector and no fans, I would have installed different ones anyhow.

    In a day and age where phones sell $800-1000 over their real value, simply because there is a specific logo on them, I get that a case series like this exists and gets sold.
    And I'm actually pleasantly surprised that Hyte puts real effort in not only looking good and striving to be a premium namebrand, but also puts effort in actually improving the function of what they sell.
    Even with the rather crummy airflow, the Y60 sells rather well. So for them to step up their game with the Y70, not in looks, but in improving almost every cooling characteristic of the case, that gets a genuine bravo from me.

  • @Shiny_Dragonite
    @Shiny_Dragonite 8 місяців тому

    Had this come earlier (late 2022) I'd have picked one up as it has more space than my Y60. I'm a huge Armored Core fan and with 6 finally coming out, I wanted the space in the case to put one of my Kotobukiya model kits and set the RGB lights up to look like a hangar. It's a tight fit in the Y60, but this has plenty of space. It gave me the opportunity to have an illuminated display case on my desk and a PC in one. I knew going into it the thermals wouldn't be nearly as good as my previous gaming PC, but they're still well within what I deem acceptable.
    Under any other circumstances I'd have picked up something focused on thermals, but being able to set up a PC theme to match a game series I've played since the first game was too difficult to ignore. I am this case's target market right now. 😂

    Don't like a case that is big, just for the sake of being big. My Rosewill Thor V2 in white is very big, but for a reason, it has six 3.5" hard drive bays of which I am using 4 at the moment, and has six external 5.25" bays, plus can accommodate motherboards with 10 expansion slots. Also has three 230mm fans (Top, Side, and Front) and one 140mm fan at the rear. Cooling is never an issue, it is fantastic with that huge mesh side panel and 230mm fan blowing onto GPU and motherboard. If a case is going to be big, it better have a lot of drive bay slots and cooling!! Love it, have had it for years now.

  • @TheGameBench
    @TheGameBench 8 місяців тому

    What I like most about this case is the LP GPU riser and the fact that they have a bunch of other half height slots so you could run a capture card, a second GPU like the A310 or A380 for Plex transcoding or streaming, a 10Gb NIC or even... a sound card, I guess.
    Seriously though, I like that they do vertical GPU's while not completely making the rest of the PCIe slots useless.

    • @rodiculous9464
      @rodiculous9464 8 місяців тому

      I just built one and it does make the other pcie slots useless. You dont have a ton of clearance to begin with and the riser cables will block the second pcie slot. And anyways the rear panel will not support a second gpu bc theyre not the correct side. Idk about capture cards maybe those use the smaller rear panel footprint but you'd have to bend the riser cables in an unnatural way. Even my intel wifi add in card wouldn't fit due to the rear panel size, fortunately i got a motherboard with a built in wifi since i didnt want to deal with add in cards anymore. You could probably jury rig something with buying separate pcie cables but its not a drop in solution for sure.

    • @TheGameBench
      @TheGameBench 8 місяців тому

      @@rodiculous9464 Those are half height slots. As long as the card is a half height card, I see no reason they would not fit and would interfere with the PCIe riser cable. The A310 is a half height only GPU and there are half height A380 models. There are a lot of half height WiFi cards, network adapters, sound cards and capture cards. Sounds like you tried to fit a full height card into a half height slot then complained that it wouldn't fit when you just don't understand how it works.

    I personally think the standardize fan test is better because most people who buy these cases don't use the fans that come with the case. They replace them. A better way might be to fully populate all the fans (with the same brand just different sizes depending on what the case supports) and standardize for noise.

    09:04 Hey, that's SR-3 Dark, I have one of those!
    No one makes crazy mobos like that anymore, there are WRX90 and W790 Sage, but those don't have a cool VRM waterblock...
    A bit outdated, but I'm still using a W-3175X build with that board.
    And that EK CPU block too, had to sand 1.5mm from the sides to be able to use DIMMs with heatsinks in the slots closest to the CPU.
    The block is in direct-die mode, had to machine a custom frame to make that happen.
    And the only good looking case I could outfit with enough cooling for W-3175X to be relatively cool was Corsair 1000D, took out the upper rails to be able to cram 4x Quantum Surface P480M rads.

Thus why I got the screen-less version and bought a different screen to put inside it (turzx turing screen, runs everything off a single internal USB connector, so it doesnt suck up any graphics card resources).
