Pimping Out My New Boat!

- I found this sweet deal for only $2,200 locally and decided that it could use some TLC. The boat turned out amazing after it was done. The final cost of everything including the boat was $4,100. What do you think of this build?

Where can I get a deal like this... Everyone near me is selling their tin boat with a 5 horse motor for 7 grand
Florida is completely different where there are darn near as many boats as cars! 😆
@@brentparks3669 Exactly. In Louisiana there are deals but most are beat to death and not worth the time.
Tin boats hold their value more than fiberglass.
I can get fiberglass boats for way cheaper than aluminum where im from. Its just the way it is.
Also think of a 20yr old 20hp motor is cheaper to maintain than a 20yr old 200hp motor. A couple hundred bucks every other year is a lot cheaper than 3 grand every other year, to fix an aging motor.
When you search, sort your results low to high. So you see the cheapest first, never be afraid to make an “offer” do it respectfully, but if someone is asking $7k you can just “would you accept an offer of $X…? Some people get pissed, but I have had people get back to me months later and say “is your offer still good”. I had a guy start at $3k but 3 months later it was mine for $500. I kept it respectful and I kept my offer good, and he “appreciated that”.
And don’t be afraid to knock on a door, if a boat has sat unused for 5 years, most likely they are happy to see it go away.
The best boat related videos out there. No BS just showing how to get things done. Always look forward to the next one. Wellcraft are great boats too.
This is the first video i have seen from this guy and it is beautiful
Dave Mahler same
My aunts Well craft sunk on the way back some from the Bahamas.
Ryan Harvey well that’s bad
Ryan Harvey I had a stroke reading this comment?
“It’s a Honda it would’ve started already” hell yea
Do you sale boats?
James Mckee sell
Nice work..nice boat just missing a windshield ..is it for sale ? Where are you located ?
That was my first thought
I’m a Detailer in the Seattle area for over 15 years and I love how you guys are fixing up older boats for use because Fiberglass lasts so long and it’s a shame for boats to get neglected and then just destroyed after nobody wants to assume the responsibility of renewing. I only have one small thing I noticed. I understand it’s pretty simple to just paint it but you could have buffed it out and it’s brand new again plus the paint still needs some type of UV protection so it doesn’t powder up and disintegrate under the Sun ☀️.
🤔 I would have cut it out with a white pad and Meguires compounds including 2 coats of Cleaner Wax and 2 coats of Pure Wax. For the Topsides and for the Hull I would have done 2 or 3 coats of Cleaner Wax and after I would go with Teflon for 2 coats applied with an orbital for the extra penetration and saturation for long lasting protection. I would also use Metal wax for the T Top and rails so the salt comes off easily. 🙂 If I get a boat like this I would buff it out unless she would come out speckled from thin GelCoat. God Bless you guys you do great work! I appreciate how thorough you are. 😏🖖🏼🇺🇸
A few things to note.
1. That paint on the motor looks like a factory paint job. Beautiful.
2. The LED lighting takes it to a luxury level and is very functional.
3. That thing ran and sounded like a dream when you were out in the water.
4. The drone footage and editing was perfect.
5. Please tell us how much money you put into repairs.
And last but not least.
The level of skill your buddy has with backing that thing out with a lawnmower was legendary. Like, extremely impressive.
All around 10 outta 10 for the build and video.
Instant subscribe and thumbs up.
It's in the description, $2200 for the boat, $4100 final cost including repairs
Worth it. Every penny.
@@luca_sbll I don't know if it was noted in the video (maybe I missed it) but what repairs or upgrades wind up costing the most? I was a bit shocked that it was almost $2k of upgrades!
@@HankHill1 paint, speakers, brand new cushions, engine decals ,throttle and drive cable, led lights and spotlights all those little things add up to alot more than you'd think.
@@LtgOperator exactly my thoughts as well... Would really like to know how those under water back lights are made water proof.
When you were coming by the bridge, it looked familiar to me, even though I'm in NY... My grandparents lived on Treasure Island up until they passed in '12/'15... I used to fish under that bridge when I was a teenager (I'm 43 now). Got a lump in my throat when I made the connection (grandparents were my favorite people).
I recognized the bridge instantly as well. Sorry to hear your grandparents are no longer around but what incredible memories you must have to make that connection on a landmark a thousand miles away.
This is a beautiful channel. The sincerity of the Boat Guy, his craftsmanship, and diligence to film and edit...I thank you, Boat Guy.. so relaxing and fascinating. With stickers!
Amazing job, Love these videos. My brother and I just did our first, 1988 17' Pro LIne, paid 3500, had 4800 in it after we were all done, sold it last week for 6500. That boat sat for 3 years and took us all winter ( we both work full time as well) Not bad for our first go round. Learned alot watching the Boat Guy. Keep em Coming.
Good job man!
Any photos you could share of your 88 Proline? i have the same boat that i am in the process of restoring as we speak! would love to see how yours came out.
@@ThatBoatGuy How much did you sell this boat for?
Hope yall realize you are livin the life!
Congrats guys.
Love it
Dude this is one of my favorite rebuilds from you. Nice score for sure. I really appreciate how you show all the work it takes to make gems out of forgotten treasures. Keep em coming.
You need to wear a respirator whenever you're sanding, buffing or painting. Protect your lungs! Nice job on the boat!
Eric - you and John do a great job! I know there is tons of stuff you guys do that doesn't make it onto camera. I hope one day to buy a boat from you because I know you will have put quality time into it. Every boat you get is 101% better that when you got it. I love watching you guys transform boats. Keep up the good work!
When the engine reved high on startup around 3:45 it sounded like a straight piped Ferrari f12
1st thing I thought was F1 also
Yeah, sounds amazing, so do F12’s
Yeah lmao we were trying to fix up a pair of 96 175 EFI v6 johnsons and they sound so fucking mint. Just sucks that the injection system is so dogshit. We got them running decently with a slight miss at idle, but since the injection system is so tight they'd probably blow a cylinder quickly, so we just decided to buy a pair of 04 250 yamaha hpdis for $2k that needed a LOT of work, and we got them running great. Almost ready to put them on the boat almost a year later
I applaud your creative content. My total boating experience is a short canoe trip, a day spent cruising a 30-acre lake in a rowboat, and one short ski boat adventure. I'm 69, and for various reasons I probably won't ever get in another boat. Yet I am fascinated by your videos. I love to see the boat come alive after some application of a little common sense, a sensible amount of money, and a lot of diligent effort. Great job.
That's amazing, the difference after you painted it. The motor looks brand new. Nice job!
Who needs sleep when the boat guy posts
Same
Hahaha same I saw he posted this video at 1am west coast time. Had to rewatch it on my TV again in the AM w/ my coffee.
I’m watching this at 1:12 am
Exactly!! The boat guy owes me many hours of sleep I would have otherwise had. I would hit the "thumbs-up" ten thousand times if I could.
What kind of paint did you use??
Professional trucker here... That guy on the Honda riding mower backed up that trailered boat like a pro!
ChrisGeez lol I so just thought it was a joke for the video😂😂
Yeah. Im terrible at that. I was like woah.
Do you have any proof that you’re a professional trucker?? You sound ignorant
fuckthegovernment If you think that sounds ignunt, you should hear me yelling at other truckers who are gittin in my way! ua-cam.com/video/yIPcXX26TQE/v-deo.html
Was amazing work with that tractor
Well I don't want to say i'm jealous, but i'm jealous. That's a steal! Not every day you find a diamond in the rough like that
What is it worth now? What did you sell it for? That’s the information that would be the cherry on top to know!
Awesome refit! You are a real pro and love your station
Yeah, I'd like to know what he does with those boats.
This shows the difference in prices for in-landers / land dwellers, that boat in KY would have been 6k -7k w/ trailer here in the "as is" condition.
It would be cool see a cost brake down on how much the build end up costing
I often wonder why they don't display that. It would be very valuable for the viewers.
Glad people appreciate Johnson’s personals there by far my favorite
Wow what a deal! This thing looks perfect after the elbow grease .
My dream boat . I've always wanted that size and style ever since seeing my first one.
Fantastic job great work.
I'm glad you guys got a good deal my dad recently bought a 1988 20ft runabout with a 4.3L mercruser . I can't remember the price but under 2k, turns out not a single piece of structural wood was good, he had to completely rebuild the transom and replace the stringers, plus it had many stress cracks in the gel coat today was the first real test of it on the water and as soon as the engine hits around 3000rpm at around 35mph the engine either throttle downs or dies. My dad's too stubborn to listen to reason and has already put 150+hr working on it. But at least he's got something to get him through quarantine.
I can't believe how cheap you get things! Over here in Australia thats a 30k boat even the way you brought it! Probably 40k after you fixed it up! Madness
you should see the localy made boats here in NZ they hold value so well its worth buying new or near new everytime.
Ay I thought I got a steal with my 3.8 meter tinny with a 25hp merc for $3000. Smh aus prices
Mac i have replied to him about the exact same thing used boats here in Oz are a rip off and over there especially in Florida they virtually givem away
Time to buy some, list em as scrap , put them in a container or 3 and off to aus, why wouldn't you?
I totally agree. Man I wish I could find these boats as cheap as him
foe the older boats like that that are faded i reccomend Poly-Glow instead of regular wax
You are a talented young man . Looking forward to more projects .
I miss doing this type of work!! I miss working on a different boat every day or week! Cleaning and restoring being able to turn something around yo look and run like brand new and seeing the customers satisfaction is like nothing else!
I own a aquasport. Same model 2002 and it just fascinates to se the boat rides so good.
I've never seen the inlet at John's Pass so calm!
Literally looking & thinking the same thing! That's why I came to the comments to see if I were the only one.
You need to drive that straight to Barbados for me.....
be interesting to see the condition of the water jackets inside that motor. Looks good externally, could be trashed inside (runs ok though)
This boat is awesome! I'm so jealous you found such a good price too. I'm a teacher at an alt ed school and I'm always looking for new ways to reward students with great opportunities. It's not always clear to some teachers, but rewards often work better than just consequences. Figured it could be a great way to incorporate field ecology and biology work as well. Since March-ish I've been on the hunt for a great deal like this but I haven't found my unicorn yet. Full jealous! Congrats, she's pretty! Subscribed.
Nice Honda 3813 garden tractor. Have one just like it, still runs perfect. Oh yeah, boat looks great!
Well done. Polishing a turd. I can't always afford shiny new things, so I understand hard work to make something I can afford nice and something to be proud of.
You guys should list the paint and stuff you used
I agree
And what's the drone? Great shots.
agree. like to know what paint was used on motor
@@truenorth179 I wonder if its the one he was pulling the kayak with that went for a swim
@@truenorth179 Should be a DJI Phantom 4
How do you always just magically get steals on boats that run like a charm 😂
It's called the UA-cam rose glasses effect.
He knows about outboard motors (check his old videos) I learned a lot from him. Once he opens the cover, he can instantly tell if it's good motor. (unless if there's a surprise)
Nice work on the boat, it came up great. I love the sound of 2 stroke outboard at full noise.
Love this boat!225 Johnson what a beast!
Lets hope this awesome transformed boat gives Eric the funds he needs to upgrade his plastic bag shoes 😁 amazing work again Eric. Got much respect for you.
Lol
ThatBoatGuy
Hey BoatGuy,
Love your videos man keep them coming. I want to ask you. I have a mercury 90 hp 4 stroke that needs Carburetors cleaned and was wondering
If you would be interested in rebuilding them? That would be a good video 😂😂 and money in your Pocket. Or can you recommend me to someone I live in central Florida and willing to take the carburetors to you. Thanks
@@ThatBoatGuyI know this video is 4 years old but I have a question about the rear seats. I bought the same boat but it did not come with rear seats. I can’t find out much information about how they are supported under the seat, or how they are mounted to the boat? I am also going to have to make a template and make the seat out of starboard or marine plywood. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
People always talk about watching that guy building pools in the forest at 3am but ThatBoatGuy has me ready to sell a kidney to buy a yacht that I don't need
Love watching your restoration work on these “Gem’s”, you guys do beautiful work!!! I glad you let us know how much you paid for the boat, but could you please let us know how much you put into the boat and how much you sold it for if you did? Thanks (:
I used to live in Florida, I got alot of great deals on boats. I have lived the last 15 years in the UK, and a boat like this would be going for around £20,000 which is about $24,000
I so enjoyed this video. May have cost some $$, but the sweat equity pays off . LOOKS GREAT! I am a newbie, ready to retire at 55. Sometimes you have to pull the trigger, live and learn! Thank you Boat Guy!
Nice one ! Would you ever consider fitting a small PV panel on the roof to keep the 12v batteries topped off like a battery tender ?
I never thought of that. Might be a good idea
Just curious, how often do you come across a $3000 or less boat like this? If it’s common enough, I’ll fly down and drive back to Washington State with a boat. This is a 10-20k boat all day up here.
Depends what boat, currently bought a 2002 sea fox 257 with a 2014 Suzuki 225hp motor for 20k
Enjoyed every second of this video, you guys really did a number on that boat! Those LED lights really made that boat a bad bitch 💯🔥
Just started working on the docks at the Johns Pass Marina, recognized the bridge immediately
This things is PERFECT, just like the doctor ordered. Perfect size, , brand, shape, engine. This is on my bucket list, ill be looking for one of this for sure. Hope I can get a good deal, put some work into it and have a good boat in my hands. If I ever get one of this it will not leave me for a looong looong time. 👌👌👌👌👌👌
where do you find these deals? that boat is an insane deal.
djtechinics97 Dj right I look all the time but I never find things that are in that great of shape for that kind of money
He’s Florida man, he finds all the best deals
No kidding. That boat and trailer combo in that condition is 5x that price around here.
@@jrhenry24 Not sure where you're at, but I was thinking the same thing here. I'm in the U.P. of Mi about 100 miles NE of Green Bay, Wi. The charter and weekly/daily fishermen around here head out to Door County, Wi across the bay. They'd kill to have a boat like that for $2200, and would easily pay $10k for it after the work these guys have into it. They'd also likely not restore it at all if they bought it first haha Mindset around here is: Fill it with gas and beer, if it floats and moves, it fishes.
This boat in the condition he found it in would be $12-$14K in minnesota easy.
So many little details. Endless almost. Sweat equity. Looks freakin great
Only in FL you'll see a guy towing with a lawn mower lmao
Florida mans got to get the job done, up here in Michigan having a boat in your back yard makes u poor, we live on a lake and our association won’t even let us have it in our backyard....
Happens here too.
Nope. We do it too. Up in NJ. But you won’t find a boat like that round here for that price.
Nice work. I have a 99 200 HP Johnson. Original owner. On a Seaswirl 2300 WA. I must have over 10,000 hours on that motor and it still runs great. Thanks for the video, keep up the good work!
I wish I had your skills and knowledge. I would love to bring my boat back 2 life
Great job on the boat! Where and what paint did you use on the motor? Evinrude-Johnson paint? Thanks. Enjoyed the video.
Evinrude OEM Paint color Platinum (part # 0772633) No clear coat
@@ThatBoatGuy ive got a 98 johnson 225 Venom that looks just like that. How many cans did it take? Also where did you source the stickers? Awesome content as always. Thanks!
@@ThatBoatGuy amazing vid. I have the same boat, always tweaking her to make her more beautiful. What paint did you roll on for interior? Gelcoat?
@@ThatBoatGuy if you want to sell a boat I'm your guy. Otherwise, where are you finding these deals
Amazing to see you turn something you bought for 2k and turn it into something you could probably easily sell for 10k+
Great job rebuilding the boat.
She's Purrrty.
Definitely a Chic magnet for her next owner.
I didn't see you mention the red/green and white running lights.
Those are kinda required by the Coast Guard (federal) and Florida State laws to be in good working order.
Boats don't have floors.
They have decks.
Bulkheads, helms (steering wheel), head (toilet) and other nautical terms like bow (front) and stern (back/rear).
Got that hammered in my head in the Coast Guard.
When you go to buy parts and equipment for your boats it's good to see the proper nomenclature so ya don't get laughed at by the store employees and other customers.
If you live in florida you can find deals like this if you look hard enough, trust me there is a never ending list of boats for sale and you can make an absolute killing restoring them. My while down payment on my house was payed for by restoring cheap boats like these
Dagggum 2200 bro around here everyone selling there old busted Jon boats with a trolling motor for 2200 nice find man
Same lol
Haha ikr
What type of paint did you use on the interior
I will like to know that too
Yeah me to. But I would guess some kind of West Marine product
Anyone have a clue on the paint for the deck??
I would like to know what kind of paint he used on it too and if it adheres to gelcoat very well?
I know right. What paint did you use?
Loved every minute of this video that was a hell of a deal on that boat.
The engine paint job came out looking great!
Damn I need to know where they sell a boat like this, i'm looking into buying something cheap and restoring it for cheap

I watched it again Eric Loved the lights and looks like a New Ship to me Great Great Beautiful !!!
Nice, nice deal. The trailer alone was worth $2200. So free hull and good motor to boot. Awesome. I also use a a lawn tractor sans the mower attachment but my John Deere tractor an X300 doesn't back up like your Honda does. I'm jealous.
