  • I found this sweet deal for only $2,200 locally and decided that it could use some TLC. The boat turned out amazing after it was done. The final cost of everything including the boat was $4,100. What do you think of this build?

Tin boats hold their value more than fiberglass.
I can get fiberglass boats for way cheaper than aluminum where im from. Its just the way it is.
Also think of a 20yr old 20hp motor is cheaper to maintain than a 20yr old 200hp motor. A couple hundred bucks every other year is a lot cheaper than 3 grand every other year, to fix an aging motor.

When you search, sort your results low to high. So you see the cheapest first, never be afraid to make an “offer” do it respectfully, but if someone is asking $7k you can just “would you accept an offer of $X…? Some people get pissed, but I have had people get back to me months later and say “is your offer still good”. I had a guy start at $3k but 3 months later it was mine for $500. I kept it respectful and I kept my offer good, and he “appreciated that”.

And don’t be afraid to knock on a door, if a boat has sat unused for 5 years, most likely they are happy to see it go away.

I’m a Detailer in the Seattle area for over 15 years and I love how you guys are fixing up older boats for use because Fiberglass lasts so long and it’s a shame for boats to get neglected and then just destroyed after nobody wants to assume the responsibility of renewing. I only have one small thing I noticed. I understand it’s pretty simple to just paint it but you could have buffed it out and it’s brand new again plus the paint still needs some type of UV protection so it doesn’t powder up and disintegrate under the Sun ☀️.
🤔 I would have cut it out with a white pad and Meguires compounds including 2 coats of Cleaner Wax and 2 coats of Pure Wax. For the Topsides and for the Hull I would have done 2 or 3 coats of Cleaner Wax and after I would go with Teflon for 2 coats applied with an orbital for the extra penetration and saturation for long lasting protection. I would also use Metal wax for the T Top and rails so the salt comes off easily. 🙂 If I get a boat like this I would buff it out unless she would come out speckled from thin GelCoat. God Bless you guys you do great work! I appreciate how thorough you are. 😏🖖🏼🇺🇸

    A few things to note.
    1. That paint on the motor looks like a factory paint job. Beautiful.
    2. The LED lighting takes it to a luxury level and is very functional.
    3. That thing ran and sounded like a dream when you were out in the water.
    4. The drone footage and editing was perfect.
    5. Please tell us how much money you put into repairs.
    And last but not least.
The level of skill your buddy has with backing that thing out with a lawnmower was legendary. Like, extremely impressive.
All around 10 outta 10 for the build and video.

We got them running decently with a slight miss at idle, but since the injection system is so tight they'd probably blow a cylinder quickly, so we just decided to buy a pair of 04 250 yamaha hpdis for $2k that needed a LOT of work, and we got them running great. I can't remember the price but under 2k, turns out not a single piece of structural wood was good, he had to completely rebuild the transom and replace the stringers, plus it had many stress cracks in the gel coat today was the first real test of it on the water and as soon as the engine hits around 3000rpm at around 35mph the engine either throttle downs or dies. My dad's too stubborn to listen to reason and has already put 150+hr working on it. But at least he's got something to get him through quarantine.

@@jrhenry24 Not sure where you're at, but I was thinking the same thing here. I'm in the U.P. of Mi about 100 miles NE of Green Bay, Wi. The charter and weekly/daily fishermen around here head out to Door County, Wi across the bay. They'd kill to have a boat like that for $2200, and would easily pay $10k for it after the work these guys have into it. They'd also likely not restore it at all if they bought it first haha Mindset around here is: Fill it with gas and beer, if it floats and moves, it fishes.

    Great job rebuilding the boat.
    She's Purrrty.
Definitely a Chic magnet for her next owner.
I didn't see you mention the red/green and white running lights.
Those are kinda required by the Coast Guard (federal) and Florida State laws to be in good working order.
    Boats don't have floors.
    They have decks.
Bulkheads, helms (steering wheel), head (toilet) and other nautical terms like bow (front) and stern (back/rear).
Got that hammered in my head in the Coast Guard.
When you go to buy parts and equipment for your boats it's good to see the proper nomenclature so ya don't get laughed at by the store employees and other customers.
