I got a 2nd hand Scout 195 Sportfish last week. Only couple feet more than yours and 150 engine but had that out 20 miles the other morning. Had a great time. Love inshore but makes a nice change to see some deep water and different fish.

I really like your sled. We have a 25 foot CC that let's us get way offshore, but I really want something for quick inshore/nearshore trips. Your Scout fits that role perfectly!
Have a 1720 and a 263 Key Wests, take the 17' anywhere I take the 26', and more often. The 1720 has slightly more freeboard than his scout but not enough to be of any difference. Inshore it's mostly the 15'skiff, even in waves like the bay in this vid pulling traps, wetting lines.
Actually size doesn't matter much , it's how you handle your boat out there Your boat is already very seaworthy, you've got a huge amount of power with that big 90 hp, you should be fine offshore, as long as your not going to fast in and out , you should be fine , great job , nice video , and I really like that center console boat,

Hey Man, great video. Came down from Birmingham and fished the Jetty there outside the fort and Limited out on Redfish. Thanks for all the great videos. You're inspiring to us older guys who have to destination fish the gulf. Keep it up!!
I live in the area of Dauphin Island. Been looking to get back into offshore after roughly five years away from it. Been looking for a good used boat of about 21ft for the last 3 months.... What people are asking for right now is ridiculous. Some of the boats are 15k and clearly have rotten wood and old 2 stroke engine 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Keep your eyes on Facebook marketplace! I got lucky enough to find a 1989 proline 23’ walk around in running condition with a 89 evanrude xp 175! Paid 2500 for boat and trailer! Deals are certainly out there, just might have to drop everything and make the deal fast. I’ll be launching out of the dauphin island area once we’re sea ready!
@@probiethetank8825 There was a guy on dauphin island late last year selling a 21ft Roballo center console with a 200 Yamaha. The motor had an issue with temp alarm only at full throttle on occasion. He wanted I believe 12k which I thought was ridiculous. He eventually dropped it down to I believe 5k just to make room for his new boat. I figured it was nothing more than just salt buildup from lack of flushing the motor. I had cash in hand and was not even going to mention the word negotiate. I just missed that deal 😂. I figured even if I dropped 4-5k into repairs and upgrades, it would be one hell of a boat
Next time poke holes to the box and thow the whole box inside the cage and even if the chum gets “disolved” wont be as quick as normal without the box and the scent will stay at the carton any way
Same thing happened on my Boston whaler outrage extreme around 200 miles center of the gulf from Pensacola..hat popped off and stayed right on the center motor and was so happy 😊👍..I thought it was gone down to Davey Jones locker.
We chum a lot, and if you tie the chum right at the top of the water, the movement of the boat will shake the chum and once tied you won’t have to touch it again till it’s gone. Bluefish fillet is a killer bait for catching macos and they are a ball to catch.
I know how gooood that feeling was when you was about to give up and turned around looked in the boat and bam there's my hat, same thing happened to me I looked for 30mins then looked in back of boat and there's my hat. Thank you lord
I hate to sound like a know it all but at 5:44 you put text on the screen that the Little Tunny you caught was also a known as a bonito and skipjack tuna. That's actually incorrect. The Little Tunny or Euthynnus alletteratus, is also called a False Albacore, while it is sometimes referred to as Bonito in some regions, the Bonito or Sarda Sarda is a separate species, but in the same family as the Little Tunny. The Skipjack Tuna or Katsuwonus pelamis is a cosmopolitan pelagic species. Part of the confusion in names comes from the fact that the Skipjack Tuna is sometimes referred to as the Oceanic Bonito, but a separate species from the Little Tunny nonetheless. The Skipjack tuna has a solid colored back with stripes on it's belly.
We used to go out at night and go about 8 to 10 miles due South of the tip of Fort Morgan, and catch large Kings until the sun came up !!!! It was always great fishing, especially at night !!!
Hey Steve what knot are are you using for the wire line to the treble hook and knot for the barrel swivel? Also what knot do you recommend using with braided line to your barrel swivel ? Thanks for all your videos I really enjoy learning from your tips. Stay safe and take care
It all depends on the battery setup and wind/current. I have a 24v trolling motor, so I have two full size batteries that it runs off of. Normally I can get a few days use with it (about 8 hours of fishing) if the wind is not bad. But offshore can burn through some battery but I haven't lost power yet with this setup and I've sat a while in rough conditions. Just all depends on the setup!
Have the 36V , used 9 hours flat once and didn't run out of power. Low amp charge it was full load in 5 hours. You don't have your trolling setup connected to your outboard, you charge at home/slip. Most have another system for pumps and lights and the outboard on it's own. Outboard keeps it's system charged, and you never want to use it up and not be able to start. A dead outboard system is far worse than a dead car battery.
It can be good at times and suck at others and it's terrible going through the ship channel during a north wind or when a loaded tanker is coming in haha
I love those yozuri jerk baits. I live on lake St. Clair and just fish freshwater but those smaller 3d crystal minnows work great for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, pike, musky and I even get big perch on them. I've been liking them more than x-raps because I find the x-raps break too easy but they both work pretty good.
I used to work 25-35 miles offshore on a platform & seen 14 John Boats out there. Kinda crazy if ya ask me but I've been out there when I had my 18' Bay Boat.
I routinely took my 21’ center console 50 miles offshore. One of the local captains never believed me until he happened to be in the same spot. I was actually off the boat diving. It was in my younger very dumb days.
