Yep, if I closed my eyes, I’d have no idea it was Michael speaking, I’d just think it was an Aussie talking normally, not a comedian trying to do an accent.
I'm so bad at doing that 🤷🏻♀️ I work on the trains so meet people from all over and I immediately break into their accent and have been in trouble a few times for it 🤦🏻♀️
I'm Australian, and I'm honestly hard pressed to think of a comedian who can do a better Australian accent. Although he did kind of go a bit New Zealand on the word 'sentences'.
Umm hideous?? Educate yourself as the accents vary depending on where you go in South Africa, just like they do in other countries. He attempted to do the afrikaaner speaking english but failed to nail it.
I agree, the Afrikaans people sound closer to the Australians when they speak English, but the majority of our people sound like John Kani (Actor in Black Panther). And yes, it depends where you go too. People from Cape Town tend to sound very flat, while people from Johannesburg can have a lot of rounded sounds (Sounds like the middle ground between Canadian and London English accents). The proper Afrikaans speaking people from small country towns have many explosive and harsh sounds. Hard Rs and Gs. Google NAAS BOTHA (Former rugby player and sports commentator).
MIchael Mcintyre, you are the best humorist on the planet. Witty, clever, astonishing, whilst keeping your humour clean and respectful. Can't get enough! Bravo.
so, can i ask then, what was that sentence that this Geordie person said to him? i ve listened it like ten times and still cant figure out what it is. it drives me mad
I've always gotta come back to this video to hear his awesome Australian accent. So good hearing someone do it so well. Especially when he says "hello welcome to Australia" it's spot on
As a south African who is familiar with British accents i though his performance was spot on... Right until 6:30, when he produced an absolute mess of a imitation that sounds more like goofy having a seizure than any South African accent i know. The trick that most foreigners never get is to keep the vowels FLAT.
Aww Michael you are such a gem. So refreshing. Haha. I'm from the North East, Durham, but a very long time ago. So no accent. I've lived in Canada since 1985 but haven't picked up the accent. I can remember one day, as a nurse, working on an inpatient ward with another nurse from Australia and one from South Africa. The patients were so confused....haha. We did laugh.
As an Australian, I have to say that was the best impression from a non Australian person. I was proper convinced he was one of us for a moment there...I literally know people who sound just like that.
He got the aussie accent pretty good. His South African accent was rough but people don’t realise that there are so many different South African accents, Afrikaans and English speakers as well as Zulu and Xhosa people to name a few
XD I was thinking do I have an accent if I’m from NC, cause all I’ve ever known is this way we talk and I just realized if I go there it will seem I have an accent lol
