Just two points to note. At the 1:31 mark - The USB link cable IS still needed to update the VTX. The independ_upgrade.txt file is added simply for the purpose of updating the recording board independently of the VTX board. INside the Moonlight Kit there are two separate boards, one is the VTX (V2 dual antenna version) and then there is is the DVR board. The only way these two boards link together (apart from the MIPI cable for the camera) is with that small USB link cable. So if you lose the cable you will not be able to update your VTX, only the DVR board. Around the 3:55 mark you mention that you lose the ability to record Gyro data above 2.7k, this in not correct. Gyro data (as a .gcsv file) is recorded at all resolutions, what you are seeing in the Menu only relates to the in-built EIS stabilisation which is only available at 2.7k (in-fact if you have the EIS switched on than, this is when it will not save a .gcsv file as it's stabilising internally). In my testing the EIS is not brilliant and you're best placed to leave this off and just use Gyroflow.
This is what I have been waiting for. I believe the DVR board and camera will eventually be available to purchase separate because it is supposedly compatible with existing VTX's.
Hi Nick, thanks for the night flight. Looks like I’m going to build me an owl. LoL. Be safe, have fun, enjoy family and God Bless. Sincerely, Other Pops
Having just updated the firmware on my new Moonlight and Goggles X, I can attest to the PITA the little update cable is. I feel that if the thing ever leaves my desk, it's gone for good, never to be found again, haha. I used the empty independ_upgrade.txt file with the cable attached to update, but it almost sounded like the cable wasn't necessary according to the video, Nick?
Never mind, answered my own question. The "independ_upgrade.txt" file tells the Moonlight to _Only_ update the DVR board, _Not_ the VTx. To update both, the standard process of holding the Link button down for 8 seconds still applies, with the PITA cable attached. Per the Walksnail Wiki.
Hmm - not a huge fan of the image on that daytime (what I think was) 4k flight.. maybe UA-cam compression really doing a number on it but I want to say even the 03 goggle DVR of your backyard looks a bit better... Thanks for the review, Nick
Im also not surprised they still have the silly cable theme still. No longer need usv and power to get yout footage off it, but they couldn make that jumper cable internal.
Would love to see some penetration testing if possible. Don't know if I am a fan of going back to 2 antennas since they had 1 and then 2 and back to 2 again... Make up your mind Caddx! They should do what DJI does with the 2 ufl connectors going into 1 antenna. Would make life easier I think and for cleaner builds.
strap a flashlight to it and go fly! never thought that it would take this long (short time) to get something very close to DJI. Where are Orqa in all of this?
Considering I am not very adept at seeing image quality differences I think it comes down to price and if flying at very low light to dark is a priority or not. If not, the pro kit would be the likely choice.
Great video. Do you know if this new moonlight kit works with the gen 1 walksnail googles (fatshark dominator hd walksnail goggles)? Or do you need to upgrade your goggles to use the moonlight kit?
Kind of confused me. Pro v moonlight, like they were switched at birth. If the pro camera can send 4k to the onboard DVR then I would go with that config

Hello, I just bought this model of camera and it is getting extremely hot. It gets up to 90 degrees when it's on the table and shuts down. Does your camera get hot? How can I cool the camera?
Yes they get hot, all of the hd vtx get hot pretty quick. Really all vtx get hot in fpv. The hd ones have thermal protection built in. I use a small usb fan when I have to power the quad without flying …like in setup situations
First reviewer covering the new firmware update process, take that, Early Birds! Just in time too, just got my moonlight mounted on a wing. Thanks!
not really the first
The only time I beg my dealers fir a half gram less is in my fpv gear 😂😂😂😂😂

you could use an infrared spotlight on the drone for light flying, if it sees the security camera then the camera sensor should capable

Fantastic flying and review, Nick! Thanks a bunch! 😃

They have both versions, the smaller VTXes have either dual or single available depending on what you wanna get
Still can’t make up my mind between walksnail or DJI 🤔🤔
Walksnail! Especially for whoops.
Would you say that the polar cam looks better at night?
Hi,did yours come stock with sharpness set at 5?
yes, that is my recollection

Thx Nick, all my walksnail stuff seems to come with it set to 1,looks ok to me but maybe I'll play about with the settings a bit more.

Nick: I’m on the fence as to which to purchase. Moonlight or the Avatar Hd Pro kit. What are your thoughts?

I believe both sets of walksnail goggles as well as the vrx are fully compatible. Of course we do need to ensure we are compatible firmware versions.

@2:05, did you take it out on a full moon night? Any other night is a dis-service to us and the camera for night testing.
Do you still fly the baby hawk 03? I'm looking for something to fly in the back yard. Any issues?
No I don't fly it currently
can i use the moonligt camera on my O3 unit?
Nope, completely different system.
What kind of micro in thix vtx (U3 or U1) ?
I don't understand the question...Not familiar with U3 or U1.
Nice stuff, tnx. for the review.
It's NOT only sold as a kit.
What quad did you use to fly it?
evo3.5 is the one I used the video from.
Hmm.. is it just me, or does the Pro look like it has a better low light camera than the Moonlight?
Nick, what do you think is the best Video system for 1s flgiht?
Really can depend on what is considered best. Image quality, latency, range, price, availability?
