Emma Watson definitely does the French accent to poke fun at Fleurs failure
Which is ironic since she was born in france 😂 (if I remember correctly)
I conquer.
It's an English thing, mocking through imitation 🤷♂️
Yeah we can hear her laugh a little
Yeah I’ve always interpreted it as her making fun
About the "evanesco" thing, the answer is definitely vanishing, because in Chamber of Secrets Snape uses "vipera evanesco" to vanish the snake. Even in the passage J read, the potion vanishes, so it's vanishing in general not specifically to potions.
Also this spell is used in transfiguration to vanish animals. So you are indeed correct. And it was a draw.
it's also used by Bill to vanish some documents and by Harry during the OWLs to vanish an animal. So yeah general vanishing of objects.
Yep
I thought it was an incantation to WAKE ME UP INSIIIIIDE
That’s the scene I thought of right away too!!!
Evanesco isn’t just to clean up potions: Bill uses the spell to vanish a bunch of scrolls in Grimmauld place after an order meeting. I think this one was a tie! #TeamBen :-)
I agree with that! It is literally the vanishing spell - there were lessons with vanishing snails, mice, etc.
(also #TeamBen, so not AT ALL biased xD)
Right! And Snape uses Vipera Evanesco in the Duelling Club in CoS to make the snake disappear
J cheating per usual (tho he had gotten better in recent times)
when I heard that part of the book, I specifically remembered it for these quizzes hahahaha
@@DLites151 j never cheated #teamj
“I get to watch J suffer. That’s winning.”
Ah yes. True sibling energy there.
Hermione is TOTALLY making fun of Fleur, I bet she came to to the surface and was complaining about the Grindylows, thats why she failed. Hermione was also never really liked Fleur because of Ron's fascination of her and Hermione was a bit jealous.
Hermione was definitely doing it , but Emma Watson wasnt
Yeah, Ben is kinda dumb for this one
And yet people always bash ron for being jealous of krum
Agree, a very English thing to take the micky out of the French.
Oh my god. I just watched the scene and she definitely is making fun of her. How did I never notice anything?
E. Why did I even go out to look for the scene if they're just gonna play it in the video... 😶
Jon is actually right about the Hermione scene - Harry says he finished last, and Hermione is mocking Fleur's accent to make him feel better.
If that's the case, then Emma didn't portray that well enough. The way the scene plays out, she makes it seems like that's the proper way to pronounce Grindylows.
It was very obvious not because people are super familiar with how to say the creatures’ name but because she turns “the” into “ze”.
Yeah, cause she mocks Fleur in the book as well
I've read the books so I get that but I do think the point of Emma Watson (just a kid so fair enough.) Did portray it poorly in that scene.
Oh it's super like her book character. She found Fleur and Ron being stupidly enchanted by her to be extremely annoying.
Okay, but why does no one talk about one of the answer options for "Evanesco", which is "Summons someone called Evan"? XD When I read it, I almost choked on my ice tea XD
HAHAHAHHAHAHA
Or the option that Deletrius produces a selection of deli meats
That needs to be a spell
That's bonkers lol
Hermione is 100%, no doubt about it, absolutely mocking Fleur in that scene
Definitely mocking because she is secretly mad that Ron likes her and Ron can't help it because she is part Veela.
Yeah
Yeah but Emma Watson didn't do a great job of acting that way
Yeah I agree, even the book says "ze grindylows" so it wasn't done by Emma Watson
Yep
They also made it pretty obvious she was mocking in the german audio.
Finally I've been dying without a Harry Potter quiz
Mesa been dying without yousa Harry Potter Queezes
Kar kar k...
ME TOO!
SAME!! I need them!
"evanesco" is also used to get rid of the snake during the Duelling club in year 2. It's definitely to make objects vanish - any object.
Yup! Making it a tie
I needed this in my life at 1am
.
.
I’m a peanut butter guy and I HATE crunchy...
Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Heyo, same here 🙌
Same
Who needs sleep.
Why do we do this to ourselves lol
Am I the only person who has spent years not understand why Snape hates Neville so much. It took me until today to realize that it is because Snape wishes Neville's parents died instead of Harry's
WHAT HOW DID I NOT REALISE
I don't understand
Please explain
I know that snape loves lily but why would that go to hating neville
Snape is so beautiful as a character because he is real he has hatred that he can’t help himself to place on others because of how love he held in his individual way which makes him a harder character to appreciate especially as a kid. (I’m very Proud that I got snape on the which marauder are you on pottermore)
🤯
I HATE SNAPE AND HE IS NOT REDEEMED
THEY TIED, EVANESCO CAN VANISH ANY OBJECT!
Its good to know I wasnt the only one 😁
Yes true
YESSSS
Yes!
Spoilers
Bill Weasley used evanesco to vanish a stack of scrolls in Order of the Phoenix, so it's not only for potions
I don’t think evanesco is just for potions, snape uses ‘vipera evanesca’ to get rid of the snake malfoy makes in the chamber of secrets and I assume that’s just a version of evanesco
Bill Weasley also used it on the maps and drawings that were on the table in the beginning of Order of the Phoenix.
@@russellsmith3825 yeah. I dictate that this one is a tie. J did not win in this one (he wins in too many of them anyway).
@@despicablepenguin Ben also got the Nebula spell correct for what is fog but very low floating rain
@@davenclawthehobbit2842
Fog is a low cloud, with or without rain.
Ben. My dude.... She was absolutely making fun of Fleur.
Yeah
Of course she was

glad to see the love from north korea
This comment needs more. Just more
That starting bit is such a pure, ridiculous, and wholesome sibling moment.
Poor J couldn't even when Ben started moving the mug again! Lol
She’s giggling while saying it so she’s definitely mocking Fleur
J always looks at Ben's answer. I think he was the kind of student who compares his test scores with his classmates hahahaha
A very Hermione thing to do I think 😂😂
I figured it out guys!
Ben, J and Tyler are the analogy of the Deathly Hollows brothers:
- J, Master of the Elder wand: Arguably the typical victor of the trivia quizzes and welcomes any challenger.
- Ben, Master of the Resurrection Stone: Arguably the typical underdog of the trivia quizzes, the relentless embodiment of hope that returns from the dead to challenge J time after time.
- Tyler, Master of the invisibility Cloak: Youngest of the brothers, hiding from the UA-cam Algorithm. WHY IS HE ALWAYS INVISIBLE ON SCREEN. Mmm??
(And Yes... UA-cam Algorithm is death to all.)
This needs more attention!!!
It even fits with their ages, J is the oldest, Ben is the middle child, and Tyler's the youngest
Evanesco is actually a transfiguration spell that is used to vanish everything animate and inanimate and is taught on vanishing snails so you were both wrong and right
I always thought she was mocking Fluer...
Whether she was mocking or not I can't really say, but that was definitely an intentional mimicry of Fleur when she said it that way.
This is an important distinction for the sake of the argument. I personally think it's both, but it could be one without the other, and it is at least mimicry.
Why is deletrius not an Unforgivable Curse-
*evaporates man*
“Oh but that’s fine!”
foetus deletus
Probably has a countercurse or could be blocked etc
It likely has actual use outside of killing while Avada Kadavra's sole purpose is killing people.
Ben Hermione is definitely mocking Fleur to hype up Harry.
Ginny and Hermione both resent Fleur. It's funny how all the guys think it's not malicious. We women understand catty.
more like we've been socialised to pick up on subtle social cues
I thought this was super obvious as well, and I'm a guy. In the scene where the Beauxbatons students are coming in they specifically have Hermione and Ginny in the shot while they give them dagger eyes because Harry and Ron are ogling them.
If by all the guys you mean literally only Ben
Ever wonder if Tyler doesn't actually wave? (Conspiracy theory: Created)
is my life a lie
I like to think that Ben's "Brain Desk" uses the Pixar lamp for light.
I didn’t even realize that Hermione said that in a French accent. I was really surprised when they played that clip and noticed it! (It has been years since I’ve seen any of the movies, though.) Also, you guys had that “muffiato” vs. “muffliato” before and concluded that it DOES have an L. (One of the Seamus videos I believe).
Wow that’s some impressive memory! It also isn’t a surprise at all that they have had that discussion before!
If everyone drank from a Carlin Brothers Coffee mug
the world would be a much better place
Society if everyone Drank from a SCB coffee mug
ua-cam.com/video/klrbDBytRYY/v-deo.html
True
Honestly, centerize your mugs has now become a tradition.
I sometimes question if I am nerdy enough for this channel then Ben makes the Mike Wazowski joke about his mug and I know he is talking about the 10-second scene in Monsters Inc when they show the scarer of the month photos and Mike is always slightly out of frame and I'm like "YEP! MY PEOPLE!"
I have a question for the next round:
"How does Hermione's name in the Dutch version translate to English?"
Answer: Hermione Granger is called "Hermelien Griffel" in the Dutch version, which translates to "Stoat Slate-pencil"
The first question that spell is used on Harry's wand to remove the spell for the dark mark when winky was found with the wand
Fun fact: oppugno is Latin for “I attack”
Oppugnare is “to attack”
Makes sense, because Opugno doesn't make birds that attack you, Hermione had already (possible with Avis) made birds, she only made them attack him later
Yes, and Avis is latin root for bird. There's a lot of that in all the JKR writing. And French roots too (hence the theoritical silent 't' in Voldemort, for example)
A lot of the spells are in first person Latin (vide: Expecto Patronum)
@@ashgreninja7521 yep
People in the Wizarding world would probably all be Latin majors
8:50 defiantly mocking. "Fleur never got past 'zee grindylows'"
They say that Hermione uses: "The same vanishing spell as Snape uses to empty Harry cauldron". So it is in fact a vanishing spell
19:16 For how much time they clearly spend together I’m always surprised by how little Jon and Ben know about each other’s lives.
Honestly I don't think I can name any of the plants any of my friends or family members have, and I love plants. It just isn't information you typically catalogue about someone else.
Vanna Reyne
Yeah too be fair the orchid one isn’t the best example. I just feel like everything other quiz one of them will say something about themselves (that you would expect a brother to know) and the other one’s like “Oh really I didn’t know that!”
I keep thinking I know the answers but then I remember that the movies are different from the books lol
I love the way Tyler says, “No, that is a different spell” in the first question. It’s like he actually wants to say “J, shut up. I am not giving you a point and that’s final.”
Hermione is totally mocking Fluer when she says "ze Grindylows"... she's even talking about her... it's not super well established in the movie as I think the book makes it more obvious that Hermione is not a fan of Fluer (As Fluer gets attention from the boys) but that's how I always believed it was presented.
My Alexa went off when you said that! Hahaha 😂 (also smooth all the way!)
Bill also used Evanesco to vanish some parchement that was used in a order meeting at the beginning of order of the phoenix.
If you guys don't start letting Tyler in on the "Hey Brother!" I'll lose it
Ben saying I want to make J suffer is the most brotherly thing I have heard out of one of them.
“ctrl+alt deletrius” HAHA I DIEDD ngl 😂😂
J, since you have very young children and are a Disney fan, I'm going to give you one word that will help you in the future, Uncrustables. These are one of the best ideas ever, frozen PB&J sandwiches. Put them in the cooler and they thaw during the day (helping to keep drinks cool along with ice packs) and are ready to eat.
I'm pretty sure that Weasleys Wizard Weeds would mean something else than Gillyweed
I think it would have been hilarious if Harry just dragged out some regular Muggle scuba gear for the challenge at the lake.
They talk about accio-ing an aqua lung from a nearby town but Hermione said he'd be disqualified for breaking the Statute of Secrecy. Muggles would have seen it flying away lol
The worst way to prepare a hot dog is not boiling but microwaving.
I up you one microwaving a boiled hotdog... (I was at first confused because I like boiled sausages, but then I realized they were talking about hotdogs and well those don't cook well unless it's over an open flame... and even then I'd choose a different type why am I typing this you're not interested in preferences....lol sorry)
"crunchy peanut butter is like the débutante of peanut butters"
Yeah but "débutante" is French for beginner, so it's less than amateur.
Yeah I was looking for this comment :)
I’m reading this right as Tyler talks about peanut butter.
I feel like he meant connoisseur
i never agree with j but hermione definitely was making fun of fleur with “ze grindylows” 😂sorry ben
That rabbit joke was HILARIOUS
When I grow up I want to be able to grow a beard like Ben
So excited I need a cheering up thinking about things and I'm crying so exactly what I need Jay Vs. Ben!
Ben complaining about the random French accent again 🙈 100% agree with J, Hermione is mocking or rather imitating Fleur - Fleur had already been back to the surface for a while, and when she had returned, explained "I could not get past zee grindeeloohs!" and Hermione is retelling this to Harry, who only just emerged from the water.
twist ending, they show Tyler and he wasn't actually waving at the time Ben claimed he was!
The cup act at the beginning is becoming a tradition! 😂
Hermione was 100% “mocking” Fleur in that scene
Evanesco makes things disappear, thus making the potion disappear. The cleaning charm is Scourgify
I think Evanesco is just a vanishing spell. In the Dueling Club scene from Chamber, Snape uses Vipera Evanesca to vanish the snake Draco summoned. I'm positive those two sound so similar because they actually are doing the same thing.
BONUS points to those who can tell me the spell Draco used so summon this snake.
Hi Ben and J! Love ur vids
Aw thanks!
All 3 of you guys should do the quiz together, i think it would be more chaotic
Evanesco is also used by bill weasley in the order of the Phoenix to vanish parchment from the table after the order of the Phoenix meeting before dinner so that non order members wouldn’t find out what the order were doing
"How do you like your peanut butter?"
Me: Has never eaten peanut butter
You guys should film you guys and Tyler and upload the highlights of his reactions every Friday.
(Or any day I don’t care, you guys are great.)

When J's screen dims at 7:08, it's as if his tablet as in sync with J, himself, as his spirits goes out from getting the question wrong in such a manner. XD
I really wanted Ben to just push his mug off the table 😂 I would’ve laughed so hard
Hermione is almost certainly mimicking Fleur herself.
That was SO CUTE when Ben helped J wake his screen at 7:10
I am just here for all the iconic sibling moments that have NOTHING to do with the quiz
I also think Hermione was mocking Fleur's accent
Dissendium was used by Ron in the Borrow when he opened stairs to display the modified ghoul in the Deathly Hallows.

So excited the HP quizzes are back!
It was a draw! Evanesco means to vanish something! There are more uses of it in the book than just for potions. Snape just VANISHED it away lol 😂
So the "Vipera Evanesco" spell used during the duelling where, after Malfoy conjures a snake is a particular use of the "Evanesco" spell? hmmm
Maybe it conjures a snake to make a threat ‘vanish’?
I BEEN WAITIN FOR THIS ONE
More of these quizzes, I love them😍
The name for Muggles in America should have been “Muggos”. It slides off the tongue and it sounds like a slur, it’s perfect.
Muggo would be australian slang for muggles
Not to mention america came from Britain so it would make sense for them to just slightly change what they call non magic people instead of coming up with a whole new word... that would take forever to catch on.
It sounds more like someone with slurred speech lol
“If you know, you know”
“If you know, you know!”
But let’s face it... *you know*
J.... OF COURSE WE ALL KNOOOW
I‘m so happy, finally a new J vs Ben AND it’s about Harry Potter - this makes my day!!
8:30 I actually always loved the way she said Grindylows there and I never thought about why she said it like that. But not that you bring up the mocking aspect, I could totally see that being the intent, though it seems like something that would make more sense with a few more scenes setting up Hermione's mocking of Fleur.
Take it from a british person, Emma watson IS mocking Fleur in that scene with the french accent. If we want to impersonate/make fun of someone, something we do is we change our accent. Like my nan is scottish, so whenever impersonate her i do a scottish accent... Idk why its relevant just thought you guys might be interested! :D
I think almost all people do this especially when we are kids
@@brittneyrhodes3605 Fair enough! I still do it even now... although I think that says something about my mental age rather than Britishness XD
