I thought about that, but 40% of their bottlers are owned by The Coca-Cola Co., and another 40% owned by PepsiCo.. The remaining 20% are independent bottlers, and Keurig-Dr. Pepper is more than content to keep it that way, because this is how their product is available regardless of whether or not a restaurant serves Coke or Pepsi products with the occasional exception, usually with Pibb Xtra in its place. Im so glad yall mentioned yung gravy cuz once you mentioned flavoring and marketing, I immediately thought "are they gonna bring up strawberry creamin by yung gravy?" everyone I know and even strangers love the strawberries and cream flavor, their creamy coconut is good too versus the best pepsi flavors Ive seen in store recently were lime and mango, which are FINE but nowhere as good as what dr pepper has been pushing lately. So I think youre right and a lot of it comes down to pepsis weird choices.
Pepsi Twist was one of my favorite variations. I was pretty bummed when it went away and hasn't made a return. This summer they had the limited edition Pepsi Lime that was very close, but was sold out very quickly. I'd happily see Pepsi Twist/Lime make a return over the some of the dozens of Mountain Dew flavors that seem to appear every other week.
Depends on the cookie! Chocolate chip, gingerbread, and speculoos cookies are AMAZING in coffee! Sugar and oreos are good in hot chocolate and milk is a classic for most cookies, especially those with richer flavors. Oatmeal raisin pairs well with the trash 😅

Hey Santi, I am having an argument with family about food, more specifically, is Mexican cream sauce a type of cheese? I say no, and my nonbinary sibling says it is. I asked ChatGPT to answer if Mexican cream sauce is a cheese in a philosophical way, and it basically said no. But now I need the opinion of an expert researcher in food theories. So, now I ask you, is Mexican cream sauce a cheese?
After careful consideration, I'd like the next Theory to be about...The Eggscellent Challenge. How long can it really take for someone to eat everything the Eggscellent Challenge offers: 12 eggs, chili, cheese, 2 biscuits, and a fruit bowl. Is it truly possible to finish this food in under 1 hour? Will Santi go on this quest, slay the dragon, and perhaps even win the "I'm Eggscellent" Hat? Or have a food theory about which food from Regular Show is better and which is worse. Either way, I'd like a Theory on Regular Show.
Pepsi's not going to just flat out die. It's clear that Gatorade is the biggest sports drink brand. Way above Powerade and whatever prime is. Mountain dew is extremely highly above their competitor which is mellow yellow. I've only heard one person ever mentioned mellow yellow before. Aside from that I don't think anybody will even drinks that. People much prefer Mountain dew. Pepsi's standard colas are losing to Coke and I guess they're now losing to Dr pepper even though that's not a basic cola as far as I'm concerned, but still there are other brands like Mountain dew and Gatorade are actually dominating what they compete against
I miss all sport. That stuff was the best tasting sports drink ever. Probably because it was loaded with sugar. Tasted just like soda. I think the best tasting soda ever was Minute Maid orange soda. Yes, they did make an orange soda in the 90s and it was amazing.
I think you can chalk this entire episode up to "Impressionable people sick and tired of the cruel world, find a moment of solace with the funny brand drink" end of story, honestly, I could not care which drink is more POPULAR, its about the TASTE, Dr.Peppers are rare outside of the US not counting Canada or Mexico, but actual EUROPE rare, and personally I prefer the mellow taste of a Pepsi vs the cold bite of a Coke and if I'm feeling spicy, Fanta.
@TheGreatCosmicBoogerEaternobody said Dr.Pepper wasn't relevant. But when one drink does a tiny bit better in US while being basicly absent in EU, while the other one is doing still great in the US and also great in EU, the second one is gonna do better. You have to remember, even tho it's not always the most important for media or soda companies, the EU is a bigger market overall. Also, even tho I'm not sure about this, I'm confident pepsi is doing much, much better outside of the west, where there is a lot of growing markets.
One reason why Pepsi keeps going (relatively) strong in the tide even with all its failure is because of how it prepares itself. While it's true that Dr. Pepper and Coke are always ahead, Pepsi Co. is still THE major #1 drink distribution network system on the market in North America for carbonate and electrolyte drinks. Their system is so vast and well implemented that not only does Coke uses their network (at an obvious cost) in the US and Canada (at least from what I know), Pepsi Co. is also manage and run the majority of Dr Pepper's products distributions. Yes, Pepsi Co. is basically what Valve's Steam is in the video game industry, but for the carbonate drink industry in North America. Coke does come close behind Pepsi when it comes to its distribution network, but Pepsi Co. invested a lot of money in securing exclusivity deal all around North America. As ironic as it might sound even if Dr. Pepper raise as the #2, Pepsi Co. is still making a lot of money from managing its localized delivery with its delivery network. The company who deliver over 80% of all carbonated drink (other their their own brand, if applicable) at Walmart, Maxi, Dollarama , Sobey's and many more in both the US and Canada: Pepsi Co.
Note, that this is only in the continental US, and only reflects sales for the flavour as opposed to the actual brand name itself. Worldwide is a completely different tale when you consider that Dr. Pepper is bottled by both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, depending on which country you may be talking about.
@@The_Emperor823 If it means anything to you, Coca-cola as a consumable soft-drink was first created in 1886, and Pepsi-cola was first created in 1893, and commercially available by 1898. But Dr. Pepper was born in 1885, so by rights if you go by date of creation, Dr. pepper should be #1, followed by Coca-cola at #2 and Pepsi-cola at #3. But then, date of creation only counts as a matter of history, where-as its popularity is a matter of the taste buds of its customers and their overall preferences, and top flavour preferences always tend to flip-flop as people age and are replaced by younger generations and their own differing senses of taste.
It’s surprising from what I’ve seen far Food Theory hasn’t touched on if the TMNT brothers could really survive on just pizza? Unless that’s already been done.
Same in Brazil, and pretty much people only drink coke when eating out since it's usually the only option and have a better profit for the business, but majority of people drink Pepsi at home and soda marketing is going extinct for the past years... Or not, I haven't watched tv for over a decade.
I love all of the theory channels and their new hosts I just wanted to say that. Also all of you have my support and love. So keep up the good work, I don’t even know if you will see this but I just wanted to say that!
I've never understood the "Cola Wars" between Coke and Pepsi. Both are really good, so it seems really silly that people think they have to be loyal to just one. Coke has a deeper, richer taste that pairs well with other flavors like vanilla, while Pepsi has a lighter and fruitier taste that pairs better with other fruits (which is why Cherry Pepsi > Cherry Coke). Since I like both, I always just but the one that best fits how I feel at the moment. But to be honest, I have barely bought any bottled soda since I got my Sodastream. And since Sodastream is owned by Pepsico, I guess they're making out like a bandit in my home. 😅
The companies have a "war". This incites the consumers to do the same. Apple vs Microsoft is another example, though that's mostly Apple waging the war. In reality, most people just plain don't care or have a preference but it's not a big deal. Brand loyalty is probably bigger than caring about the actual product.
You would be loyal to Pepsi too if they had the patent to ACE K which they did until about 2008-9ish. Then Pepsi just gave up on their Ace K stuff and just trying to be more like Coke instead of being themselves. Didn't New Coke fail because they tried to be more like Pepsi instead of being themselves. That's exactly what happened to Ace K Pepsi.
It was all brand vanity more than anything else. Coke was selling fine up through 1985. They just lost incremental retail space. Pepsi bought KFC/Pizza Hut/Taco Bell, which both put them into more fountains and took those sales away from Coke. Burger King was one of the biggest and most visible fast food chains, so when they switched to Pepsi, it cut into yet more sales. None of this was an existential threat to Coke, but when you have shareholders, juat having strong sales isn't enough. Coming up on the company's centennial, it was all a bad look.
I tried Dr. Pepper once. Tasted like medicine, had to pour the rest of the can on the ground. I think it won't be taking over Pepsi abroad any time soon
I've been moving more towards the Cirkul bottle filled with seltzer to get my fizzy fix. But when I do reach for an actual soda it's almost always Pepsi. Especially Wild Cherry Pepsi. As long as they keep that they'll still get my soda money.
This makes sense to me. There’s a quote I like: “Never underestimate an old man in a game where young men die.” It’s mostly for war times (ESPECIALLY when it comes to the 77th infantry division [for context: the 77th ID was a division entirely made of “”old”” guys, old in military terms at least.])
I didn’t even know that Dr. Pepper Strawberries & Cream did colabs and such. I just saw it in the store and wanted to try it 😅 Awesome flavor for a summer treat! 😊
That's crazy, I have the reverse of DP and Coke 😂 The only person I knew that actually really likes Coke was my Uncle, and ONLY diet. And their creations only brought in money due to people curious out the taste or supporting the collabs- every person I've heard trying them all agree they land from mid to disgusting. Pepsi and DP reign in the Southern US states, along with Mtn Dew.
This was the best of the new era yet. Diction, intonation, actual flow of thought. Finally back on track from what I’m used to from the brand. Great job team. Looking forward to many more❤
i feel like a big part of how much they sell comes down to the contracts they have with distribution, mainly focusing on fast food francises. I think the franchises that sell pepsi, also arent as popular as they used to be as well.
Could be. I've read that Taco Bell is still doing well, even though I can't remember seeing anyone I know buy it in roughly 10 years. I still see KFC and Pizza Hut stores, but almost never see cars enter or leave those lots. Seems unhelpful for business. Then again Costco has Pepsi in their fountains, so it gets those concessions at least.
What are you talking about, man? Everybody knows the hierarchy ranking system and how it works: First the worst; second the best; third the golden eagle.
Dr. Pepper is my favorite soda ever. After a traumatic experience (husband passed), I can no longer drink it, so now I drink fanta, but Im still a fan of Dr. Pepper. It would be cool to see an episode on how traumatic events change your taste buds and if it'll ever go back to normal.

Ayyy a fellow young gravy fan
The peach Pepsi is amazing
The coconut Dr. P is great for a pinã colada 👌
You should do a video on whether the ten second rule matters.

Food Theory Idea: What’s the best liquid to dip cookies in?
Depends on the cookie! Chocolate chip, gingerbread, and speculoos cookies are AMAZING in coffee! Sugar and oreos are good in hot chocolate and milk is a classic for most cookies, especially those with richer flavors. Oatmeal raisin pairs well with the trash 😅

7:35 So? The blue mountain dew flavor is like the third most popular behind the original and Baja Blast. Plus what other color would a Blue Raspberry drink be? Blue isn't an unappealing color.
yeah people love blue blue is great
Tbh blue is more appealing than red because red typically means danger or anger, whereas blue represents calmness and tranquility.
@@Sleeper____1472 It's different for food though. Many many ripe fruits are red or reddish in color while very few edible things are blue (only one I can think of rn is blueberries)

In my family we joke about how my grandma, my dad, and I all love Dr Pepper and we call it the “Dr pepper gene” lol

Did you drop this crown I found on the sidewalk yesterday?
Man, Pepsi is dying, but please keep my Gatorade around, Prime actually sucks
Yup
Prime is the best you can’t do my boy Logan like that
I just stopped drinking Pepsi after hearing how over here in the Baltics they sold Pepsi made in Russia

Yooo Santi I love the food theory videos! You bring a rly fun energy to them, keep up the good work!
Coke tastes very similar across most cola varieties, whereas Pepsi is more distinct.
The company who deliver over 80% of all carbonated drink (other their their own brand, if applicable) at Walmart, Maxi, Dollarama , Sobey's and many more in both the US and Canada: Pepsi Co.
intresting
There are another couple of reasons that Pepsi keeps going strong. They are also known as Kentucky fried chicken, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut.

Never did I think the day would come where DR PEPPER of all sodas would eclipse Pepsi
Note, that this is only in the continental US, and only reflects sales for the flavour as opposed to the actual brand name itself. Worldwide is a completely different tale when you consider that Dr. Pepper is bottled by both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, depending on which country you may be talking about.
@@steadholderharrington9035 Still, it feels weird just knowing that, even if it's only in the US
@@The_Emperor823 If it means anything to you, Coca-cola as a consumable soft-drink was first created in 1886, and Pepsi-cola was first created in 1893, and commercially available by 1898.
Well Dr Pepper is better, so..
Still waiting for calpis/calpico to take the lead 😂
1. I've never seen dr pepper in a store in my life. 2. Pepsi is everywhere
10:23 I will NEVER buy prime over Gatorade
I don't see it as fall of pepsi,
I see it as RISE OF DR PEPPER
Pepsi still sells millions of cans of soda a day, if you count just Pepsi. Don't forget they also own Starry and Mountain Dew.
It’s surprising from what I’ve seen far Food Theory hasn’t touched on if the TMNT brothers could really survive on just pizza? Unless that’s already been done.
Funny how at least in Portugal (I belive in europe all together) its HARD to even get your hands in dr pepper and most people dont even like it 😂
Here too (Chile), no Dr pepper at all
Then there's me absolutely loosing my mind when a chicken n chips shop is selling ginger bear/ale 😂
Coca-Cola manufacturers it in the UK and is widely available. But I don’t think I have seen it sold in mainland Europe.
Same in Brazil, and pretty much people only drink coke when eating out since it's usually the only option and have a better profit for the business, but majority of people drink Pepsi at home and soda marketing is going extinct for the past years... Or not, I haven't watched tv for over a decade.
In Portugal, I like Sumol orange.
I love all of the theory channels and their new hosts I just wanted to say that. Also all of you have my support and love. So keep up the good work, I don’t even know if you will see this but I just wanted to say that!
I think it was the new logo change which made it lose its sense of premiumness and made it look like gummy candy
Imma just stick with me and my RC

Cirkul is over priced though.. I love the product; but it's it's flavor runs out waaaay too soon to be worth it

When I heard the news about Dr. Pepper being the #2 soda, I thought "I literally never met a single person who prefers it over Pepsi or Coke"
In the UK, cherry Pepsi was the most popular, but theres less stock nowadays

I was definitely waiting for this one after Dr. Pepper came on the news :O
However Pepsi has more exclusive rights. But yes, that does not mean anything if they aren't popular.
Honestly that could be another reason why they've dropped particularly in the US
Pepsi sounds like aperture science 7:47
Im pretty sure it goes Coke (Im sure mcdonalds helped a ton here too) , Dr Pepper, Mtn Dew, Sprite then probably pepsi.
