It works really well in Mob Psycho 100, too. Since he's basically the strongest esper ever, if he actually cared about that, he'd have already reached his goal. In fact, it IS the goal of a number of other characters in the series. But he doesn't. His goal is much more mundane, and even though he's reached a level of power that most protagonists would spend years clawing towards, it isn't what he wants. So instead his goal is become a more well-rounded person, and finally ask the girl he likes out.

Hahaha! So this is what's at the end of the New World! Luffy better hurry up and get there! If Eren gets there before him, he gets to be King of the Pirates. I don't think that'll help him kill all titans though..

Finally... Deku found the one piece, and became the hokage king by using the power of "stand for all" and finally used it power to wipe out the titans and save the people of Namek and free them from being trapped in Sword Art Online.
Hopefully by the end of one piece, Eren will become the hokage of the fairy tail shinigami, marry his love interest Noelle, get praised by all might and surpass his rival killua, all while searching for the 7 dragon balls with sailor moon
He never will. That's the point. If he became a pokemaster, the series would end. *That* is the problem with shonen anime; it will never end, so the characters will never reach that goal they have set out for.
The dragon ball tournament arcs went from a “normal” martial arts tournament, a tournament with pretty powerful aliens, to intergalactic fights with demi-gods to save entire universes. It’s literally impossible to go any further at this point.
It’s not impossible since the Manga for Super somehow manages to keep going, which is enough proof as is needed. Plus all those characters will eventually die and new characters (if continued long enough) will have to start the journey again. They already have a good sense of time progression so yeah.
Plus since Goku and Krillin were going after Grandpa Gohan, Roshi, the Ox King, and the Crane Master they already are continuing a story since those characters were shown to have their own journeys (Demon King Piccolo).

I think what people fail to realise is that the part system in JoJo isn’t its only reason for avoiding terrible power escalation. It’s the abilities. Stands are so specific in their abilities that any stand can completely destroy another, but that very same stand can also be destroyed by another stand with an ability that counters it. The same goes for My Hero, people don’t give it enough credit for also avoiding power escalation. (Honestly not as effectively as JJBA, but still to some degree.) In the way that quirks work, some just aren’t effective against others. Mina vs Kirishima is cut and dry, he can’t be hurt by her acid. The same goes for someone like Sero and Todoroki, he completely bodied Sero because their quirks were just completely unmatched. In MHA it’s all about playing to your strengths and how to use your quirk most effectively, often avoiding the need to make the villains stronger and stronger every time because of how situational and user-skill based they are. Which allows the villains to still be grounded and interesting without just making them another beef cake that can blow up a few more mountains than the last guy.
@@wateryourplants5771 yes. thing is MHA does that way later since we are still looking into life of students.... their development takes time since they are still not pros. and trust me the pros can beat an overkill quirk of a villain with shear brain and technique, since they all have been through their own origin no matter how weak their quirk is. tke nighteye for example. with a simple quirk of foresight he is one of the best around.
yeah, all for one was introduced as the villains power ceiling and then the next villain isn't as strong but has the looming threat of quirk erasing darts
This is why i really i enjoy Jojo’s bizarre adventure. Instead of increasing the power levels of enemies they make it a battle of the minds. The characters outsmart the enemies to win.
I think one of my favorite aspects of JoJo is its ability to make all of its villains intimidating and an actual threat even if they're technically "weaker" than the previous villain before them. Yoshikage Kira is way weaker than DIO in terms of raw power and is a normal-ass human instead an immortal vampire , but he was still just as effective of a villain as DIO. JoJo's villains never escalate in power in a direct linear fashion, they just get progressively more unique abilities that make them a different type of threat.
Yea I like how ( And other anime’s can have similar situations not saying only JoJo) The villain May not be stronger than the previous ones in raw power like Kira compared with Dió or Mr Ultimate Lifeform but in the setting they are it can make others develop their abilities in it. Kira being a “normal” person allowing him to kill anyone without revealing his identity. JoJo sure is cool
The only problem being that Araki doesn't know how to make a villain threatening without giving him a time based power (at least in the anime). At this point, I am expecting another time based power in the next arc.
@@Modie Yes but also no. I can't get into it too much without spoilers, but time-based final arc villains kind of become a thing of the past moving forward.

Hey I was hoping JoJo would be mentioned Changing the characters in every season really does well for the series Every start of a season puts the escalation level to about 0
Except from moments when you have to downgrade those who survived the previous ark, cause they are to strong now... Like Jotaro who already could stop time for 3 or 4 seconds while being IN stopped time and AFTER fighting with Dio, getting stabbed and hit by ROADROLLER. And in Morio he can't stop time for more then a couple of seconds being well rested, gets very tired afterwards and nearly dies in the first clash with Kira.

Hajime no Ippo is at 1303, and I'm afraid the author won't be alive to finish the story he is telling for 30 years... He is ok right now, but 30 fucking years of manga... Wtf
While I agree with this overall, I'm not sure that Hero Aca has actually shown off its "Power Ceiling" yet. This is mainly due to the fact that as stated by All Might after punching the villain into the stratosphere that he wasn't anywhere near his "peak". He mentions that in his heyday, it would have taken 5 punches tops to do what took him 300 in that situation. There is also the fact that Deku naturally has a higher ceiling than All Might simply due to the quirk 'One for All'. This is basically a quirk that stores energy over successive generations and all of the previous holders were basically trying to get powerful enough to stop All for One but none of them had the power until All Might's generation.
Iain McDonald's Yeah I agree, also we haven’t seen much of one for all yet and he looks like a seriously OP villain my hope though is that instead of relying on ridiculous power ups like with the case in bleach Deku keeps using his analytical skills, Because he’s not wrong it’s hard to care about shows like Dragonball Z or bleach where there’s no consistent power level, I think Naruto did a decent job but yeah dropping asteroids was pretty ridiculous. I think the reason I don’t mind the power escalations in Naruto as much is because It’s really well explained, they use the will of fire as a reason successive generation is stronger than the last, And even the ridiculous power ups like when Naruto goes full Ninetails makes sense because he is essentially harnessing external power from a demon. But again at the moment it looks like my hero academia will do an even better job at placing power caps and utilizing reasoning over brute strength and we’re even seeing awesome character development
Noah Workman I don't know if you read the manga but they've done all for one vs all might and they've done a pretty damn good with everything after the fact you should read it if you're interested.
I agree, allmight states that he's not in his strongest form a lot of times, and its hinted that the all for one guy can make nomus as strong as he whishes them to be. In theory both one for all and all for one are limitless
Every time you get to the end of an arc, a new secret tournament bracket is added that we didn't know about before, so the same tournament just keeps going on and on
THANK YOU. One of the biggest issues is that stories just aren't _meant_ to go on for-fucking-ever. Stories have beginnings and ends, and they have pacing - you can't stretch them endlessly long without shit breaking.
@@soep19 It's always more profitable to just milk an already popular franchise rather than making something new. That's where this whole problem comes from to begin with.
I think FMA Brotherhood is a good example of a "power ceiling" done right. There was a clear gap in capabilities between the characters (father being able to make suns and everyone else being able to transmute basic elements on a smaller scale), but the final fight wasn't just someone getting a random boost of power cos plot rather many people taking advantage of the situation and using what they had been able to do from the start in a strategic way.
deerskin yeah but that’s because fma was actually focused into a story with a beginning and end in mind instead of constantly trying to impress their audience with bigger explosions
But FMA is fairly short. These other Anime's are long af and keep escalating that's the problem. It's about longevity of a show. If FMA kept on going for like a decade it may have gone down the same route.
Kavi Amalakumar yeah but the bigger issue isn’t length it’s purpose, dbz and other long running shonen have no reason to be as long as they are because the stories are concise to each arc and so they have to keep making stuff up to keep itself relevant. One piece justifies its length constantly
One Piece actually establishes multiple power ceilings in the early episodes: 1. When Mihawk obliterates a fleet of Don Krieg's ships with a single sword swing, This takes place even before Arlong's arc. 2. When the Straw Hats encounter Kuzan (the 1st time) and he freezes an entire ocean with his Ice Age technique 3. When Dragon appears at the Grand Line entrance and takes control of an entire city sector with his Wind Storm-like ability
Unfortunately, he has. That being said, in Logue Town he was the first character Luffy couldn't beat. After he got so much stronger, beat a fish, a shichibukai, a god, a cp9 top assassin agent, and another shishibukai (who was much stronger).... After getting so much stronger, with his gears too, he STILL couldn't get near Smoker in Marineford. That to me, was a definite display of one of the steps to the power ceiling.
Another power ceiling is how powerful the Yonkos are. We were told at the beginning that Yonkos are incredibly powerful, and until now, they're still the most powerful characters. It took an entire army plus a high-level pirate crew to take down a sick Whitebeard. Shanks singehandedly stopped the Marineford War by simply being there. Kaido can't even commit suicide. And Big Mom stopped a G4 Luffy, who is exponentially more powerful than he was in his early days, without much effort.
Kaido alone is the ceiling bro! that monologue which introduced defines the ceiling its gonna be crazy to see how oda puts him down! from the rumors/ theories that ive heard Luffy and his alliance will not be taking down Kaido the usual route its gonna be unique. im really pumped for WANO!!! #WANO2017
Guess you didn't watch too closely. Many shonen manga are kept going, either by author or the editorial department, because it makes money. Even if an author wants to end a super popular series at 100 chapters, they might well be pressured to push on to keep a popular series going. Hell, Dragonball was supposed to end after Freeza before Toriyama was pressured to continue.
@@kofalofa6648 always positive? Dude each time kurama takes over him and he goes on a rampage is when his will breaks down or he is filled with rage. orto l'ano it's because Giorno's real name is Haruno Shiobana but when he moves to italy the call him Giorno Giovanna because the sound similar in Japanese.
One Piece introduced Hawkeye only after about 50 chapters in, showing him annihilate 50 ships with just a Sword just to kill time. This showed us the immense power gap very early on.
It's a dubious power gap if you think about it. Law is on the same rank of the plot devic... I mean, Mihawk. He was able to slash a fucking mountain/half of a island. With his fruit helping him or not, who cares, that is the greatest feat of power a swordsman ever displayed in this series. But its hard to compare with Mihawk because he is a suppose rival of a emperor. I think mihawk, just like crocodile, even Pell to some extent.. They are all mistakes committed by a young and immature Oda. The story was suppose to feature only the emperors, the shishibukai was a last second introduction. Mihawk was suppose to be a emperor, not a shishibukai. That makes more sense with his role as the plot device who inspires Zoro's motivation.
Mihawk doesn't have the traits of a captain, a yonko is not a yonko becouse they can 1v3 the admirals(i'm sure they can't) but becouse theyhave powerful and infuental crew. Look at what big mom would be without her crew? 0. While mihawk can probably stand 1v1 against an admiral/yonko (just hold his own, not beat them) but Mihawk is not a leader figure, he is a solo person.
Rafael Teles You try to insult the story by saying Mihawk is a plot device. But if you haven't noticed, every character in their world is a plot device. Somewhere, somehow, they move the story forward. That's why it's so successful. Everything is necessary
Once again, JoJo just says "fuck you" to this problem's face with its Part system. Just compare Part 1 to say, Part 4 or Part 5; it is a completely different series, but somehow, it's still the same...
It's mostly just the introduction of Stands which completely cancels out this issue to me. If we had been left with Hamon up until now, I'm almost certain that Part 1 would be almost nothing like Part 4 or 5. Even the jump from 1 to 2 when we're introduced to baddies like Kars who can only be killed by Hamon attacks internally and at a large volume is a huge leap from Dio, who'll be reduced to a head from Jonathan's Hamon punch. It was definitely the right call for Araki to move into the use of Stands which have a lot more potential and technicalities. Even though we've got the Parts which center around different protagonist being introduced to the world that is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure they're usually better equipped or face opponents with much more formidable abilities than their past counterparts. Take Giorno's journey to defeat Diavolo in Part 5 and compare that to Part 4's Josuke and his struggle to bring Kira to justice. It's escalating at least subjectively.
it also helps that Araki takes influence from different Genres and stories for each part. 1 is just FotNS with vampires, part 2 is part 1 but more STYLE, 3 is around the world in 80 days but with STANDS, 4 is a slice of life horror combo, 5 and 6 are crime dramas, 7 wild west, with some Spaghetti western influence, and 8 is a contemporary slice of life pseudo mystery drama.
" Luffy fought in a grand war to save his brother and their bond. We all cried because it was relatable and we've all been there". Man you guys are lucky, you can relate to one of the grandest wars in one piece.
Jediah Games that was the only part of the video he was just wrong about. The anime’s production shouldn’t be considered when making a claim about the story’s flow. Aot introduces the idea of what’s in the basement at the beginning of season 1. We’re getting an answer 4 story arcs later. Thats a pretty adequate amount of time for the mystery to build up. true, everyone underrate the genius of araki for thinking about a solution to a problem so big in the genre decades before that problem was widely acknowledged
Plugaru C. Sebastian in jojo’s bizarre adventure the first 2 parts used hamon which is basically magical martial arts, but Araki realized that the series would soon become too focused on power levels so he switched the main character’s powers to stands. Stands each have a special ability and each have strengths and weaknesses, for example Star Platinum is incredibly strong and fast but can only move about 2-3 meters away from its user Jotaro so it’s only good in close range. Meanwhile a stand like hierophant green is incredibly weak but can move far away from its owner, scout areas, shoot projectiles, create barriers, and control people. Because of this system all stands can be useful in atleast some situations

Spencer Dean No, he's a living plot device with as much personality as plain bread to defeat the villains in the end. There's no need to worry if Ichigo's ever trouble, he'll deus ex machima another powerup whenever the plot demands for it. Judging from your pfp your clearly a Bleach fanboy so I'm not gonna waste my time anymore.
Spencer Dean Here's how Ichigo is a Gary Stu. So from the very start we are told he has a lot of power, and we find out he has hollow powers. Okay makes sense hollows can be pretty strong. Then we find out, wow hes a fullbringer? Well guess that explains the hollow right? And then the author blows his load and rams home with basically saying, "Oh yeah by the way hes a Quincy. Dont question it I'll give a vague explanation for it later.". Other things include, being able to fight a powered up Kenpachi and win (somehow), gains god-like power thanks to Mugetsu (I'll get to that later), and to top it off if his feelings are hurt enough he uses teen angst- I mean hollow powers to beat up the meanies that were clearly stronger then him. Now for Mugetsu and I'll be frank I hate this ability. I mean do you know how big of an ass pull that was!? "Oh damn Getsuga I have to fight Aizen who has godlike powers and fused with his sword, what should I do!?" 'Psh let me try to have a personality for a few seconds, give up, then give you an op power up'. Then Ichigo goes to Aizen now FUSED with his sword and beats up Aizen in a badass manner. The end. I mean hxh will have more quality cause of its low chapter count compared to a series that has triple it's amount on chapters. So it's unfair for you to compare shows with low chapter to those with high chapters. The only exception in your comment being JoJo. Now that series is still strong.
while that is true u could say ssj1 was unique to because at that time if you were coming the og db theres not really any transformations but ssj 3 does have neat design tall hear nice transformation sequence and incredible dialogue so its good
@@jahiemsterling511 UI is bullshit, its basically hacks, auto dodge? in a fighting anime? thats like seeing the future in a chess game, its not interesting anymore cuz the protagonist will eventually know every move the enemy does and counter it perfectly, and if he loses despite that, than you know the show made him lose for fake tension. you dont celebrate aim-bot users in FPS games, do you?
gintama is total opposite, whenever gintoki goes rage mode he loses but when he starts being calm and think about the fights he ends up fighting really good
that is a mighty logic falacy you have there... I mean, it's obvious the power comes from hair styles... try dying your hair yellow... you will instantly be 50 times stronger as long as the dye isn't permenant!
the loss of hair is like with weight training, if he finally meets someone stronger then him he can finally release his hair to become even more op, or just choke the world under so much hair that you kill everything.
Well one piece doesn't really do that, Luffy was able to win, in the beginning, just he struggles with the fight. I think the exception might be .. the fights he lost, Aokiji, Magellan, Whitebeard war, archipelago.
Dragon Ball Z (Cell Games), One Piece (Dressrosa Arc), Naruto (Chunin Exams), Boku no Hero Academia (Shoto has Daddy Issues Arc), Dragon Ball (All of 'em), etc.
It was a big power spike, but at least it was hinted at from nearly the beginning and ties into the rest of the plot. He doesn't just get stronger for strength's sake, it shows a whole other aspect to his character that I don't wanna spoil for someone maybe reading through these comments
@veniel breatana Doesn't matter. Cutting a whole ship effortlessly in one swing was a big feat back then. You don't have to show the biggest move to have a glimpse of a powerceiling, just something impressive enough that the characters will achieve later and will feel like growth for the reader/watcher.
@veniel breatana But he defeated Zoro effortles, in one move, and with a very small knife and by that moment Zoro was one if the strongest characters in the show.
I like Overlord. Just a super OP protagonist right from the start, squishing mortals like insects. His greatest threat comes from not wanting to hurt a friend.
Evil Genius a similar korean manhwa i've started reading is called The Gamer, it's got two of my biggest story fetishes which is unique infinite potential and unique ability.
Overlord is about Ainz loneliness. About him letting go of the past and him slowly becoming one with his Overlord persona. Ainz biggest foe is himself.
But what makes it different from your regular "OP ikesei protagonist" is that he came to the entire world with his whole guild. He doesn't start from scratch and is just magically OP. He's got all his gear, all his items, and all the NPCs of his guild. He was also at the max level before he was transported. It's what makes Overlord interesting. That and although Ainz is the protagonist, he's not some genius prodigy, he's just a regular salary man, who is a bumble King. In addition, he's not a 'good guy', he's just the protagonist. As said above, it's also about Ainz dealing with his sense of loneliness. Overlord is the best iteration of "OP Ikesei protagonist" that I know of.
I think the creator of Naruto actually realized the power escalation problem at the end. Fights from Kakashi vs Obito onward were much more tactical and martial-artsy than before again.
funny thing is , hirohiko araki came up with a solution for this problem more than 20 years ago in jojo's bizarre adventure , yet only togashi learned the lesson with hunterxhunter.
I feel like Boruto was a reasonable attempt at a Jojo restart, but it has nothing more than soap-opera-esque morbid curiosity going for it: "oooh, so THOSE two got together... is Metal Lee adopted?...Anko got fat lol." You need to restart with a good story idea, not just blindly follow the son of the hero. Araki skipped generations or even went to a parallel world if he couldn't find a story he was passionate about.
Dragon ball Z is popular because its known as the anime that won over the west, years later the nostalgia born from childhoods wonder keep the curiosity alive.
It's not a easy lesson to learn. It's much more easier to follow the Dragon Ball stereotypes than try something really smart and creative. Oda is more impressive than Togashi imo because he was able to mix jojo with dragon ball in his own series, he is also a better artist (which doesn't mean much, both Oda and Togashi are not that great on this department).
Gigguk is honestly one of the best anime critics on UA-cam IMO. He blends the perfect amount of high level analyses and just enough humour to keep from being boring. Honestly I'd really like to see an original creation come from him similar to the likes of RWBY or something. I feel like it'd be some real quality content.
Halpher UA-camrs upload videos containing references which can be understood and relatable to the majority of its audience (Most of us know what direction these anime take). How many of its viewers don't know One Piece or DBZ (even if they've not watched it)? I'm hearing about 'The Promised Neverlands' just now since you mentioned it (thx btw). Its not a top hit anime (vs the former) and would not referenced except per chance or its unique qualities. If every uploader is going to reference every little thing that you or others like, their videos would contain info for days. It'd be like watching a mini series. Easy to mock the uploader but do so after you try to appease the crowd with videos that contain the most value per time.
Halpher So: He's generalizing and he doesn't have anything to support his claim aside from the really famous manga series that's more general knowledge. I pretty much agree with your sentiments. At least his solutions were pretty good.
You talk about flaws in the video, yet fail to demonstrate what these flaws are. Even worse, you bring in stuff that has nothing to do with the topic of this video in an attempt to discredit it. Using more well-known animes to frame his argument is not a flaw, it's a feature - it helps to illustrate his point since more people will be able to understand it this way. Bleach turned to shit and most people agree with this, and One Piece is still going strong for a reason. I used to like DBZ's power scaling at first but got really annoyed with it since it quickly went out of hand. Other animes do a much better job of making this process more gradual. This sounds suspiciously like a "he slammed an anime I like" reaction.
Halpher I don't think he was trying to represent all shonnen, rather just a issue that entraps a lot of good stories, I would go as far to say that this also hurts other types of stories such dramas or romance, although it's a lot more visible in shonnen jump series which run on the idea playing the same bunch of stories till are good and dead ( I'm speaking in general, not specially) Also comparing the story of any of the big shonnen titles with a story like the promised never land is like comparing apples to oranges, as one is a series that's packed to the hundreds in chapters, to a beginning series with less the 50. Although on a off note, I'm a bit worried for the series now that we are out of the orphanage center, as what drew me in was the psychological aspect and all the secret muddling the kids did, and I just don't know if the series will be able keep that going on. I guess we'll find out
"How to fix shonen anime you ask?" You don't. Go read shonen action manga from Jump Sq, Weekly Shonen Sunday, Monthly Shonen Gangan, or Monthly G-Fantasy, or Monthly Bessatsu Shonen.
Relatable gintama is perfection there’s no real problem with it besides a kinda weak start but if you rewatch the series the “weak” start becomes better because you understand the characters on a rewatch

if only goku remained dead after cell games, dragonball could have done the same, because gohan will not train every day of his life, so the villains could keep the same power level, ginyu forces were cool with their strange powers instead of "OVER 9000!"
blackham7 Almost no JoJo increases in power except for Johnny who starts of weak and even gets defeated at the end of the manga by alternate Diego even with his power of infinity, as for Giornno he only gets his insane boost in power at the very end of the manga and it was only there for one fight.
One Piece is my life goal. I want to create a story as complex but simple, world as wide but small and characters as deep but relatable. Because all those aspects are what makes a story brilliant.
@Magma2680 I believe she means that the reader/viewer knows how vast the world of One Piece is, but in the story we rarely feel it because it's always so focused on what is currently going on. But we also are often reminded about the size of the OP world so we don't lose the feeling of grandoir.
Here's some advice : Take note of how one piece does it and make it like that but make it yours i.e. make sure you make it different enough that people won't say it's a rip off, but make sure you have fun making it or it'll feel soul less (though one piece is probably gonna end in probably around 2026 or maybe further)
Reason why people still fall in love with One Piece: Character that appeared 500 chapters ago still plays a huge role in the story today. Good examples: Arlong, Hachi, Crocodile, Bon Clay. Oda just doesn't make them irrelevant after their defeats against the strawhats.
That's funny becaese the characters is probably one of my biggest issues with the anime. Not only are their design so predictable and tiring, but the characters themselves are also beyond obnoxious. Design a goofy character, give him a quirky habit and repetitive lines. That's their template for 90% of all the villains.
+SexyJazzCat That's a really shallow way to look at the designs of characters and villains of One Piece. Bon Clay looks ridiculous and probably looks really obnoxious and annoying to most people who have only seen his gags. But he's an extremely endearing character for how far he is willing to go for people who accept him for who he is and can be incredibly courageous for them. - For example, Bon Clay was terrified when he witnessed Magellon fight Luffy , ran away, and then watch as Luffy gets absolutely decimated. But then he goes back to luffy because of his guilt and carries him through torturous prison levels and risks his life to redeem himself and save luffy. In the end of the arc he faces off against the same person he ran away from and sacrifices himself so that his friends can properly escape the inescapable prison. Granted he survives, but that doesn't take away from his character or actions. Another character that has depth to him is Senior Pink, one look at his design of a man dressed in baby clothing and most readers/viewers are disgusted and probably write him off as terrible in their eyes. But, his backstory (Deceased wife and child) and motive for his appearance is very moving, and SuperEyePatchWolf explained it best when he says why characters like this are why the characters in One Piece are great. When it comes to villains, not all of them are what you write off as good characters with quirky habits and repetitive lines. You're probably just writing off all OP villains as the ones you see in small arcs or the beginning ones in East Blue. But villains like Kaido, Akainu, and Crocodile are clearly not goofy designs and are extremely intimidating in the story of One Piece. Doflamingo is the antithesis of your description of typical villains from One Piece, the dude is a complete sociopath who delivers the most charismatic speeches of his insight of the world. His backstory, motive, and character are complex and he is easily one of the biggest influencers of the One Piece world, since he is the "Joker" of the underworld.
Really well put! Especially the part about how a show loses its "spirit" when it forsakes its character's personal stakes. That absolutely what I couldn't put my finger on.
This doesn’t even need to be a problem if the series just tells as normal ass story that focuses on the characters going through unique challenges like One Piece, Jojo and THE ORIGINAL Dragon Ball lmao.
@@alfa01spotivo Eh. Z didn't "feel" like Dragonball because the characters started changing and the types of arcs that were common were different. The King Piccolo arc established precedent for much of Z.
@@sonicdash761 the thing about hamon is, while it is really dope, it would create a problem down the line in how limited of a power system it is compared to stands. What was Araki gonna do with hamon after Joseph used it to its full potential?
I have thought about this problem as well. It might be the reason I love One Piece that much. The "power ceiling" was actually already introduced at the very beginning when zoro lost to mihawk. Since his power is still rather unknown and likely somewhere at the top, One Piece seems like such a carefully thought out shonen. Oda is indeed a genius.
interestingly oda started to think of the story off one piece many years before he wrote the first page, which would explain why the story hasn´t gone stale yet he´s had several years of preperation
Sb00n i for one have been working on my own story... probably won't ever be anywhere near as onepiece though...lol. but, right from the start, I not only introduce a power ceiling, but have my MC reach it. that way I can skip the unnecessary power jumps and just get to tge development. im glad this channel exists so I can get better. subscribed
It's the reason why I loved hunterxhunter and why I currently love BNHA. First off, The power is reasonable. It follows a certain set of logic and it sticks to it. Fights are also won through cleverness, wit, or any other reason that is perfectly legitimate. Not some "save my nakamas" power up or somebody comes out of the clear blue sky to save them. Secondly, The stories are amazingly well done. Their ability to keep the show progressing without it seeming too outlandish is my favorite part. I really hope BNHA continues into a flourishing story. Hopefully the mangaka will still feel as passionate it about it as he is now decades from now.
Personally, Eren’s basement never lost my interest or felt boring. They made it there but at HUGE costs. Losing Erwin and so many others. Talk about huge stakes. Not only that but Grisha’s journal in the basement was a plot twist that took the story in whole different and surprising direction. I was floored by the end of season 3. It was amazing. Anyway, great points on the power systems, etc.
star prime it is not canon. Jotaro can kick DIO's ass and get fucked by a rat. Any stand can be op yet have other stands which seems weak defeat the op stand.
For two reasons. A, fights are more about strategy and figuring out how to use what powers they have, rather than raw power level. B, it’s more of an anthological series, so things essentially get reset each season.
I like how you sneakily put Boku no hero on every video you make just to let people know about that great masterpiece of a shounen, you with me? Then let's PLUS ULTRA
RhinoFreak Idk. Personally, I didn't like Hunter x Hunter. Gon was too naive for me and was terribly unlikable, while there weren't really the intense fights I was expecting. Also, most characters lacked a certain...badassery. By the way, I'd say Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood is better than Hunter x Hunter.
Naruto started with one goal, boruto started with "naruto is ded" "age of shinobi over" "boruto will lose everything" "why did kawaki betray the village"
To me, the Naruto series ended in the final episode of Shippuden. I do not take Boruto seriously and I will never admit that it's a part of the series. Knowing that Naruto became the Hokage and Sasuke admitted that he would like to be friends with Naruto, is enough for me. All their adventures except Boruto were really great and with these happy memories in my mind, I just pretend that Boruto is not there AT ALL and that makes me happy.

I love One Punch Man because Saitama IS the ceiling and is now trying to find out what do with his life now that his goal has been achieved.
Salty Caramel I really wish you had a thousand likes
One punch man resolved the problem by introducing strongest character in the world as a main character
For this reason, OPM is so refreshing for me. No power levels, no secret attacks, no bullshit. Saitama is the strongest and that's it.
inaliann but there has to be an explanation to his power, otherwise how come silverfang cant one shot everyone or that random dude in the background. Btw there are power lvls the ranking of heroes and the numbers of S tiers are power lvls. Yea saitama just destroyed a god lvl villian when every else couldn't.
My solution is to watch Yugioh. No matter how high the stakes are, it's still a card game.
Actually Yugioh is a pretty big offender of this. In later seasons characters literally create their own cards and rules out of no where just to up the scales of power even higher.
It's shit though.
Nick Baynes, I'd say that's more of a season one thing, as long as we are talking about duel monsters of course, no idea about the others.
Mine is yugioh abridged

@@darrenbest3023 its really good tho
Fr, Dragon Ball is legendary, but I think they going way too far tbh. I think it should just end before it gets too bad.

But this isn’t always the case for jojo, even a weak stand can be made into a strong one by smarts, steely dan said it best in his episode

If FMA kept on going for like a decade it may have gone down the same route.
yeah probably was the best choice to be a short good story than ruining it like bleach
Kavi Amalakumar yeah but the bigger issue isn’t length it’s purpose, dbz and other long running shonen have no reason to be as long as they are because the stories are concise to each arc and so they have to keep making stuff up to keep itself relevant. One piece justifies its length constantly

One Piece actually establishes multiple power ceilings in the early episodes:
1. When Mihawk obliterates a fleet of Don Krieg's ships with a single sword swing, This takes place even before Arlong's arc.
2. When the Straw Hats encounter Kuzan (the 1st time) and he freezes an entire ocean with his Ice Age technique
3. When Dragon appears at the Grand Line entrance and takes control of an entire city sector with his Wind Storm-like ability
Swallow_Skyla also Smoker
smoker has become a complete joke at this point.

@@mhmm4553 exactly that's why araki is one of my favorite authors he is so ahead of his time with his ideas

I don't know what you define as an "asspull" specifically, but... The fact that Freeza was supposedly the most powerful being in the universe, nobody was even close to him, and it took fulfilling the prophecy of "a warrior who was above all others" (almost exact words used for that by the way) to over come him... but then some random-ass scientist on Earth managed to make beings that were far, FAR more powerful than either of those two prior warriors, just by taking a couple of random street kids with no powers and putting some machine parts inside of them... That was all it took.
At the very least, it's one of the most bullshit ways "escalation of powers" has been done.

Ichigo's greatest power is plot armor and being a mary sue.
Ichigo is nothing more than a overpowered, bland plot device who bitches whenever he gets his ass handed to him, then unleashes some dormant power he pulled out his ass to defeat the villain.
Spencer Dean No, he's a living plot device with as much personality as plain bread to defeat the villains in the end. There's no need to worry if Ichigo's ever trouble, he'll deus ex machima another powerup whenever the plot demands for it.
Ichigo's not even realistic, it's his setting that gives off the illusion he is. He's just another generic, fearless MC who takes everything on his stride because "I want to protect my friends!" You want a realistic teenager, look at Deku or Josuke.
Whether he gets his ass beat or not has nothing to do with it. Ichigo is the definition of a Gary Stu and your delusional if you think someone who's a half-fullbringer, half-shinigami, half-hollow with Quincy powers isn't.
The end. This comment is long enough as it is and I dont feel like jacking off every arc with critism.

Overlord is about Ainz loneliness. About him letting go of the past and him slowly becoming one with his Overlord persona. Ainz biggest foe is himself.
+I'm slowly dying. that's kind of true....
Overlord is the best iteration of "OP Ikesei protagonist" that I know of.

funny thing is , hirohiko araki came up with a solution for this problem more than 20 years ago in jojo's bizarre adventure , yet only togashi learned the lesson with hunterxhunter.
Afif Farhati Or they did learn it but simply forgot. Cough Cough Naruto Cough Cough.
I thought everyone has already learned that Popularity =/= Quality.
Halpher No.
Halpher So:
He's generalizing and he doesn't have anything to support his claim aside from the really famous manga series that's more general knowledge.
Halpher I don't think he was trying to represent all shonnen, rather just a issue that entraps a lot of good stories, I would go as far to say that this also hurts other types of stories such dramas or romance, although it's a lot more visible in shonnen jump series which run on the idea playing the same bunch of stories till are good and dead ( I'm speaking in general, not specially)
Also comparing the story of any of the big shonnen titles with a story like the promised never land is like comparing apples to oranges, as one is a series that's packed to the hundreds in chapters, to a beginning series with less the 50.
Although on a off note, I'm a bit worried for the series now that we are out of the orphanage center, as what drew me in was the psychological aspect and all the secret muddling the kids did, and I just don't know if the series will be able keep that going on. I guess we'll find out

if only goku remained dead after cell games, dragonball could have done the same, because gohan will not train every day of his life, so the villains could keep the same power level, ginyu forces were cool with their strange powers instead of "OVER 9000!"
Penelope Seale Maybe the problem is instead of Shonen anime focusing on "Who's more powerful?" they should focus on "Who has the better strategy?"
Na
He wouldnt simply succeed with that if it were that easy
blackham7 That’s Jojo then, Araki makes the most of use of each stand and makes seemingly weak powers seem insanely powerful in unique ways
blackham7 Almost no JoJo increases in power except for Johnny who starts of weak and even gets defeated at the end of the manga by alternate Diego even with his power of infinity, as for Giornno he only gets his insane boost in power at the very end of the manga and it was only there for one fight.
One Piece is my life goal. I want to create a story as complex but simple, world as wide but small and characters as deep but relatable. Because all those aspects are what makes a story brilliant.
EMhisss want to help me create a manga? I've begun some content already
Small? Fucking how?
Same here, I look dbz, and Super as what not to do
@Magma2680 I believe she means that the reader/viewer knows how vast the world of One Piece is, but in the story we rarely feel it because it's always so focused on what is currently going on. But we also are often reminded about the size of the OP world so we don't lose the feeling of grandoir.
Here's some advice :
Take note of how one piece does it and make it like that but make it yours
i.e. make sure you make it different enough that people won't say it's a rip off, but make sure you have fun making it or it'll feel soul less
(though one piece is probably gonna end in probably around 2026 or maybe further)
Reason why people still fall in love with One Piece: Character that appeared 500 chapters ago still plays a huge role in the story today. Good examples: Arlong, Hachi, Crocodile, Bon Clay. Oda just doesn't make them irrelevant after their defeats against the strawhats.
And when they appear you can see they have evolved as well
Yeah its a technique known as Chekhov's Gunman
Riley Under correction "Chapters". What's funny about it?
Even the original Dragonball suffered this. I mean, the formula for Z was established by the King Piccolo arc...

It's the reason why I loved hunterxhunter and why I currently love BNHA.
First off,
The power is reasonable. It follows a certain set of logic and it sticks to it. Fights are also won through cleverness, wit, or any other reason that is perfectly legitimate. Not some "save my nakamas" power up or somebody comes out of the clear blue sky to save them.
Secondly,
The stories are amazingly well done. Their ability to keep the show progressing without it seeming too outlandish is my favorite part.
I really hope BNHA continues into a flourishing story. Hopefully the mangaka will still feel as passionate it about it as he is now decades from now.
Sb00n yeah oda has put in so much thought into the whole overall series, it's insane how one little thing/person can be a huge impact in the future
