The European act was an absolute joke and the ending was too sugar coated. Compare that to the masterful melancholy ending of MGS 3, and to a lesser extent, the ending of MGS 2 and there you have the true Kojima style. #rantover

2:54 fun fact: if you play the gc remake of mgs1, tranq everyone in a room and bolt through it, not dying at bosses more than once per fight and giving up at the torture room immediately, you can beat the game in a little over 2 hours.
MGS1 was beating in 5 hours by a speed running, the game usually runs between 15-30 hours. Depending on how much you complete and how leisurely you do it.
Jeez going through this game not killing anyone is going to be sooo difficult. I honeslty am looking foward to this more then any other game this year.

I can't wait!!! I've only every purchased one collectors edition and that was for the original Bioshock. But I must say I will be getting the MGSV one simply because I started out as a giant nerd fanboy of the series and am now a fanman (I've grown up playing MGS) and it has been my favorite video game series!
One thing that surprises me is that neither Ground Zeroes, or The Phantom Pain is ever compared to Sniper Elite 3. As far as I can tell, Sniper Elite 3's mechanics and openness is very similar. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken, but they feel somewhat close in style. I've played both S.E.3 and G.Z. and I loved them both.

I am against the way both features are implemented. The cardboard boxes should be available in the environment so you can use them, nobody uses a chopper to drop of a cardboard box. Or maybe he's a magician.

Hey ***** , I have a question about the controls. Are you able to "drop" a weapon that you're carrying or do you have to carry it around till you extract? It didn't feel really stealthy to sneak around with a rocket launcher in Ground Zereos and I hope they give you this option...! Great video guys, keep it up!

Really excited about the game, when I found out that David Hayter was not the voice of Snake I was dissapointed, I dont mind Kiefer Sutherland but not for Snake, Im glad I herd he doesnt talk much in this game, also apparently the reason he cant speak Russian anymore is due to the coma (the horn is a bone from the accident I think) which might also explain why he sounds different, still I want David Hayter back.
im currently playing the new app fallout shelter, and i can say mother base sounds alot like that, except in mgs's case, it affects the main type of gameplay and has more purpose to it. amazing!
MassInDaHouse1 He fulton'ed the dog back to mother base, so he can grow into a big dog and fully trained, ready for combat. Snake can take him on mission as a partner. He does many helpful cool things!
I'm not too pleased about the size or length of the game. I don't want it to have a lot of optional quests that get in the way of then main story. It's not what MGS is supposed to be about. I don't want the game to lack focus, like so many open world games do. The alternative methods for going about the missions does seem interesting, though.
AGREED that's exactly what's going through my head right now lol. Open world is cool and all but I'm looking mostly forward to the amazing story driven aspects of it the previous games had....so i seriously don't want the open world to break that focus either. If they allow access to the main storyline consistently while having optional task available, I wouldnt mind, but I don't want to have to do side quests in order to progress in the main storyline.

Well Quiet (if equipped with a silenced weapon) and d-dog are both really good unless you haven't gotten far enough into the game to recruit Quiet. Also both are good for finding enemies.
Rob, I'm really interested in cutscenes cause most people are saying that the game has very little cutscenes other than the hospital scene which act as an interactive cutscene. So how is TPP doing on story and cutscenes? Is it like peace walker or is the story striped down to the core and most of it is conveyed by cassette tapes??? It's hard to answer this without posting spoilers. There are cutscenes, yes (and long ones) but because you're spending far more time in-game than you would in any other MGS title, they feel far less frequent. Lots of back story on cassette tapes yes, but the main stuff is still very cinematic -Rob

I still struggle to understand the structure of the game. Can you replay any mission the same way you did in Ground Zeroes? I mean, you completed a story important mission (SPOILERS), like escape from the hospital. Can you replay it to achieve better rank? Or maybe replay any boss battle you already unlocked.

Mitch Walker He hasn't spoken a word of Russian in twenty years, if you don't use a learned skill then you're going to forget it, and he was in a coma for nine years, plenty of coma patients have completely forgotten entire languages when coming out of it.
You don't have to, but I'd highly recommend it. It's basically one mission. But it's the prologue to the main game. It has 5 side missions, too, ut they're just fun side missions.
SkyrimSoldier They're optional, only for Mother Base stuff (assumed to be PVP only stuff) and they're not anything that you coudln't get through playing the game normally.

Played the first 2 metal gear solids countless times. Gonna have to catch up with the story. Got ground zeroes but thats just a short prequel to mgsv? Its all so confusing. Cant wait to get this game though!

im currently playing the new app fallout shelter, and i can say mother base sounds alot like that, except in mgs's case, it affects the main type of gameplay and has more purpose to it. amazing!

MassInDaHouse1 He fulton'ed the dog back to mother base, so he can grow into a big dog and fully trained, ready for combat. Snake can take him on mission as a partner. He does many helpful cool things!

I'm not too pleased about the size or length of the game. I don't want it to have a lot of optional quests that get in the way of then main story. It's not what MGS is supposed to be about. I don't want the game to lack focus, like so many open world games do. The alternative methods for going about the missions does seem interesting, though.
You can play the whole main story without doing the side ops.
AGREED that's exactly what's going through my head right now lol. Open world is cool and all but I'm looking mostly forward to the amazing story driven aspects of it the previous games had....so i seriously don't want the open world to break that focus either. If they allow access to the main storyline consistently while having optional task available, I wouldnt mind, but I don't want to have to do side quests in order to progress in the main storyline.
Messi Soultani They said that you can keep on doing the main story, but the morale of your soldiers will drop if you ignore the Mother Base, i bet that some Side quest are important.
gilgamesh310 Have you played Peace Walker? Peace Walker had a killer story, and many fun side ops. Pretty sure that's what MGSV is going for, but much much bigger in scope.
Gabe Newell Yeah, I have. I was actually a bit bothered by the tedious grinding that was necessary. MGS 5 should have proper actual side missions, but I don't want them to take precedence over the main story.

I haven't played Ground Zeroes yet. Will I be missing out if I go straight to this game or do I need Ground Zeroes to understand the story?

Thanks guys, I've played every other Metal Gear game except GZ. I got told that GZ just wasn't worth the money so I decided to wait for The Phantom Pain but now I kind of want to go play GZ.

Do you think that MGS will have a HD collection on next gen? Only game I've played is Ground Zeroes and it seems really interesting. Really want to get into the series and the PS3 collection is really hard to find or is really expensive.

Well Quiet (if equipped with a silenced weapon) and d-dog are both really good unless you haven't gotten far enough into the game to recruit Quiet. Also both are good for finding enemies.
Rob, I'm really interested in cutscenes cause most people are saying that the game has very little cutscenes other than the hospital scene which act as an interactive cutscene. So how is TPP doing on story and cutscenes? Is it like peace walker or is the story striped down to the core and most of it is conveyed by cassette tapes???
Please answer me Rob or I'm gonna die of curiosity :(
Edit: just to clarify, PW had loads of side ops with no cutscene while the main mission had its fare share of cutscenes. Is that how TPP works?!! Are the main missions like GZ; start and end with an epic cutscenes?????

You just can't tell a story with gameplay. Based on the impression that I saw the story seems to be told by cassette tapes along with very few cutscenes thanks to all the hate MGS4 had :/

ZetsubouNoNnoitra and no it won't if it as told by cassete tapes he would of told, granted it will tell some part of the story.
It's hard to answer this without posting spoilers. There are cutscenes, yes (and long ones) but because you're spending far more time in-game than you would in any other MGS title, they feel far less frequent. Lots of back story on cassette tapes yes, but the main stuff is still very cinematic

You mention Big boss not being able to understand Russian but when you 1st meet Sokolov during the Virtuos Mission (Snake Eater) he says Snakes Russian is very good? Mind you, If I had been blown, literally, to bits then speaking my 1st language would be hard enough let alone a 2nd, learnt, language lol

I still struggle to understand the structure of the game. Can you replay any mission the same way you did in Ground Zeroes? I mean, you completed a story important mission (SPOILERS), like escape from the hospital. Can you replay it to achieve better rank? Or maybe replay any boss battle you already unlocked.

Apparently the idea for mother base, and the overall design wasn't that far removed from the Big Shell in MGS2

You don't have to, but I'd highly recommend it. It's basically one mission. But it's the prologue to the main game. It has 5 side missions, too, ut they're just fun side missions.
The boss actually tought Big Boss how to speak Russian, so that's a bit weird that he doesn't all of a sudden.

SkyrimSoldier They're optional, only for Mother Base stuff (assumed to be PVP only stuff) and they're not anything that you coudln't get through playing the game normally.
5:00 what are you talking about? Snake had to learn Russian to speak to anyone in MGS3, and if the bombing accident wiped his memory of how to speak Russian, Ocelot can speak Russian, why can't he be a translator?

Played the first 2 metal gear solids countless times. Gonna have to catch up with the story. Got ground zeroes but thats just a short prequel to mgsv?
Its all so confusing. Cant wait to get this game though!
