Why hasn't anyone mentioned gun customization? There is a mission that after you acquire a legendary gun smith you can change the barrel and stock and all that lol. Even gun skins.

One of my favorite moments with a guard in Phantom Pain is when you're moving around in a cardboard box and an enemy sees you in the distance. He'll actually radio to CP that he saw a cardboard box move by itself. If you haven't done this before, you should.
fultoning is real, by the way. its not quite as comical and impractical in real life, but the game mechanic was inspired by something in the real world.

the only let down for the game is that, the motherbase is a bit empty, they were too lazy to fill in the interiors, and its mostly just an empty shell.

I recommend something to try, take on the tank squad when a sandstorm is due. Take out the sniper and soldier on the hill, wait for the sandstorm then get in close and knock them out with CQC, whilst down perform a hold up to disable them and wait for the stand storm to pass. When it fully clears fulton the tank first, then the soldiers for 100% success rate, unless ofc you have the wormhole upgrade.
I'm not like a huge super gamer or whatever I usually only play for like an hour at a time.. I grew up playing sports games and racing games. I picked this game up on day one and I have been playing it 24/7 since then. It is absolutely fantastic. I almost picked madden 16 over this.. Lol. I still plan on getting madden 16 but not now..

God, Witcher 3 or this for GOTY. Both are amazing games and got 10/10, and Fallout 4 hasn't came out yet. This is truly the year of open-world games and a great follow-up to 2014 which overrall wasn't a great year for gaming.
FYI... That hollow building ("giant bunker") where you found that first enemy soldier is actually a produce drying building. The Afghan farmers use it to dry organic produce for long term storage or shipping, such a poppy for heroine production or grapes and dates.

lol there's an easy way to eliminate the tank, there's a mortar nearby with a guard. Just three strikes and they're all dead. But you don't get to extract the tank :/

People are indeed tired of Fallout fanboys, but that's because people are saying or alluding to FO4'll not be as good as MGS. That's just a joke itself. MGS is a good game, i just dont think it has the more substantial feeling of a GOTY than FO4. People know that Fallout 4's huge, and are not deceiving the fact that quality's more important than quantity, but they're always doing a great job at both points. FO4's a bigger game than MGS and been worked on much longer on. I'd doubt that FO4 wont be GOTY; something bad needs to happen then.
Before you fulton a resource container, climb on top of it first. As soon as you fulton it, you can hang onto the rope of the balloon carrying the container, which is the quickest way to go back to your ACC.

I feel just a little bit insulted by the ease with which that bear was put to sleep. In my game, I had a (stunning) machine gun, stun grenades, stun shotgun & sniper rifle, you name it, with which I emptied 3 resupply crates of ammunition into him, not to mention I spent about 100,000 GMP trying to hit the rascal with sleeping gas bombardment. It took me probably an hour before he finally fell asleep from god knows whatever hit him.
I'm pretty sure I will have hard time playing this game because I have 0 stealth. To be honest, I only know how to reload a XM25 and slay 'em all or speed up my car along the footway. And this game has a horse. Anyways, I will spend some money on this as well as Hitman since both of these are highly discussed titles. I hate STEALTH!
I like what I see of the "Metal Gear Solid" games but I never seem to have the patience to finish the game. The intro's are long and there is a lot to digest before you finally get into the full swing of it and I get bored so easily. Does anyone else have this issue with playing? But I love seeing UA-cam vids of it and I respect the love from fans for it and impact it's had on gaming.
This is also one of, if not the most friendly Metal Gear game to play lol. Controls are easy, you get a break with the slow motion when someone spots you. If you go back and play the other Metal Gears it's a whole different animal lol. MGSV is a great game, though :)
This is different from the other entries by having no long cutscenes. I would do a little research into the big boss storyline (3, Portable Ops, Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes) Definitely get this game, just watch a couple of series catch up videos or read a few paragraphs of story.
Get the game, the story is may not make a huge amount of sense to you but the story is 20 years in the making so don't feel bad if you don't know what's going on just do a little back ground research. This game is tons of fun. I've been since the beginning and I'm still fuzzy on some stuff.
The fulton system really puts me off this game. Putting aside the general fantasy elements of the game and the fact that MGS has always been a bit wacky by using things such as cardboard boxes to hide in and 'cut outs' to distract guards, this seems a bit much. Does it not ruin immersion and sense of relative realism?
i am still waiting for the next metal gear rising, using a HF blade to shred some cyborg terrorists was verry fun. and with todays possibilitys, they could make a even better version, maybe with improved ninja run, better camera usage, and maybe even an open world
I know I'm late to this post but if you were smart you would not and should not attack a tank with soldiers head on. It may be long and tedious, but get close enough to where they can't see you and draw the soldiers away with your magazine. Take them out one by one. Then sneak up behind the tank and Fulton. Your welcome.

If there are guards close to the one guard you put to sleep, and you want to Fulton him, it's best to be over 30f away from the guards. This way they won't be alerted. Maybe 32f into be safe.
i have heard many negative reviews of this game, ya its true that most of the things dont have too much to do with the main story as the previous metal gear games have been; but man..... this game has soo much content , customization, resource gathering and management stuff; i simply like that. I think i got too much to play for the price i paid for.
I haven't upgraded my fulton enough to do vehicles or shipping containers, but what I am really looking forward to is the wormhole fulton. No more bloody balloons!

i didnt fully upgrade my Fulton device when i reached that tank and i didnt have anything explosives. it was a pain in the butt to destroy that thing but i ended up calling a support chopper and they ended up destroying each other!
Sidenote: You can ride a Container Home, just stand on itm fulton it and holt tight wit triangel. It brings you to the chopper, great for getting out of mission zones fast

No mention of the fact you can fulton yourself? Stand on top of a crate. Fulton crate, hold triangle, and you'll hold on and be returned to the acc for minimal cost.
I find this game intimidating. Not bashing the game at all, I like it. Really, I like it, but it's kind of confusing trying to figure out what you're supposed to do in a mission, and how the mother base thing works, or who you have to fulton, or what you can fulton, or assigning staff, or how to go about customizing weapons, where to get buddies. I played through the first mission after some difficulty figuring out where I had to go and went through the at mother base training and turned it off after I got on the helicopter to go to the next mission. I haven't played it since then about a week ago. Am I the only one that just feels lost when I'm playing this game? Not sure I even really understand the story. I just keep watching youtube videos to try and get a sense of how the game works, but it just keeps making me more confused because there's so many things to do and you only have so much time to complete missions I guess. How are you supposed to do all this stuff? lol
tlv156 you could always focus on one skill at a time. Stay on mother base and practice whatever you want until you get good at it so you can't run out of time ^_^

You can tranq the bear with a pistol? I shot it like 30 times and it didn't do anything. Had to wait until I got the tranq sniper.

Use stuff that induces stun like the Stun Arm or air slug shotguns. It makes hunting bears much easier.

It's not as tricky as it might seem, I recommend having magazines to distract the soldiers just in case.

This game has almost no cutscenes apart from the first hour. 90% of the story is told by listening to (optional) cassette tapes.

If there are guards close to the one guard you put to sleep, and you want to Fulton him, it's best to be over 30f away from the guards. This way they won't be alerted. Maybe 32f into be safe.
i have heard many negative reviews of this game, ya its true that most of the things dont have too much to do with the main story as the previous metal gear games have been; but man..... this game has soo much content , customization, resource gathering and management stuff; i simply like that. I think i got too much to play for the price i paid for.

I haven't upgraded my fulton enough to do vehicles or shipping containers, but what I am really looking forward to is the wormhole fulton. No more bloody balloons!

You could just hide behind some rocks, get DD to bark, and you throw magazines, lure the guards to you, KO and fulton them, then go for the tank.
i didnt fully upgrade my Fulton device when i reached that tank and i didnt have anything explosives. it was a pain in the butt to destroy that thing but i ended up calling a support chopper and they ended up destroying each other!
Sidenote: You can ride a Container Home, just stand on itm fulton it and holt tight wit triangel. It brings you to the chopper, great for getting out of mission zones fast
Love the game, the tactics and action are top notch but I'm not seeing the reason for the animals back at mother base. Seems useless.I'd agree though, game of the year for sure
Does anyone know if Kojima owns the rights to this series, or does Konami? The answer to that will determine the quality of all Metal Gear's after this.
On PS4 I get tons of blur at night and some ghosting, I've tried on three Tvs and a monitor and it's still showing! Any ideas?

No mention of the fact you can fulton yourself? Stand on top of a crate. Fulton crate, hold triangle, and you'll hold on and be returned to the acc for minimal cost.

I find this game intimidating. Not bashing the game at all, I like it. Really, I like it, but it's kind of confusing trying to figure out what you're supposed to do in a mission, and how the mother base thing works, or who you have to fulton, or what you can fulton, or assigning staff, or how to go about customizing weapons, where to get buddies. I played through the first mission after some difficulty figuring out where I had to go and went through the at mother base training and turned it off after I got on the helicopter to go to the next mission. I haven't played it since then about a week ago. Am I the only one that just feels lost when I'm playing this game? Not sure I even really understand the story. I just keep watching youtube videos to try and get a sense of how the game works, but it just keeps making me more confused because there's so many things to do and you only have so much time to complete missions I guess. How are you supposed to do all this stuff? lol
tlv156 you could always focus on one skill at a time. Stay on mother base and practice whatever you want until you get good at it so you can't run out of time ^_^

the only thing that I dislike from the game are the horse animations when riding it feels very mechanical. overall the gameplay is quite addictive.
