  • Hey folks!
    Seeing as my Black Metal Tutorial is my most viewed video by a bunch, I'm starting a 'How To Play In [Insert Genre]'.
    This here is the second of it's type and will give you pretty much everything you need to sound suitably like Kyuss, Queens Of The Stoneage, The Sword, Red Fang or Elder.
    So yes, we're talking about stoner rock, desert rock, or whatever else you might want to call it. Grab your guitar, tune to E-Standard and strap in and you shall learn How To Write Heavy Stoner Rock Riffs.
    Enjoy

    Dude...thx a lot...i joined two guys who are into stoner and doom genre. I've always been more into punkrock and had no clue about "the groove". It's not that easy to slow myself down. I've got a lot of work to do. That lesson was quite helpful

    Dude dign that fuzz tone! I’ve always like using hollow/semi hollow guitars on neck humbucker. It can produce that essential sound you are getting. That kinda out of phase and clipping sound! Although starting late 80’s early 90’s their are some bands much more influential than maybe kyuss or QOTSA. I.e. Sleep, eyehategod, Orange goblin, Fu Manchu, not that queens and kyuss aren’t great but they still had that desert sound that almost made them more of a sub genre of stoner. Just my opinion though. Great vid especially talking in the beginning about trucker hats and beards improving tone. LOLHSHAHA!!love that dry witty humor that uses cliches and goes right over the top of people’s head.

      Thanks a lot dude! It's all about the groove really. As long as it feels relaxed and "shuffle-y" it will sound suitably stoner rock. The simplest melodies are usually the ones you can play for a hundred years... I mean dope smoker is really really simple and awesome.

    • @NicolasPerrault
      @NicolasPerrault  Місяць тому

      That's a tough one. There's "fast" and slow. I'd say for a fast track try anything between 120 and 140, and for a slow track between 80 and 100. Now there are also suuuuuper slow tracks, that border on drone and some mid-tempo ones, but I feel these are good starting points.

      It's also particularly good on strats. Very phat fuzzy bass, but with a relatively clean top end that translates notes through even the biggest walls of sound.

    • @NicolasPerrault

      Drums are programmed with EZdrummer as sound source. I think for this video I just tweaked the vintage kit sounds that come with EZdrummer as standard with a little eq and compression.

    Cranked RAT instead of a fuzz, noodle around on the minor pentatonic on a downtuned gibson or some old ass dad axe into some kind of classic Marshal kind of amp sound - and your good. Just bluesy dad rock out, bit of phase, maybe a bit of wah. And especially if you a non drug taking dad with a beer gut the Stoner will engulf you, you will feel the Iommi running through your chubby dad fingers and you will be stoner riffing like the true inner adonis you truly are in no time! Dads - this is the way.
