Hey everyone, I hope you liked my Top 11 Kyuss picks. Please let me know with a 👍 or a comment if you did. Helps a lot! You can also find my pedal settings here: www.patreon.com/posts/62342024 Note* Thee Ol' Boozeroony is from ...And the Circus Leaves Town Album. There's been an oopsie in editing. 😬
I love Queens of the Stone Age, however… there was always something about Kyuss. The tone, the rhythm. The way the riffs aren’t exactly “technical” but there’s so much there to take in. And on top of that the songs somehow NEVER get old. Josh Homme is one of the greatest👏🏻
Look up a video with Homme being interviewed by Matt Sweeney. Guitar Moves was the series but it got taken down but you can find it. Josh talks about taking away notes rather than being technical. Super smart if you ask me, think outside the box.
The opening riff to "Thumb" is simply phenomenal. It absolutely grabbed me by the balls when I first put on Blues For The Red Sun a few months back. What a way to open an album and set the vibe and mood for the rest of an album. You did it absolute justice.
...And The Circus Leaves Town is a seriously underrated and overlooked album, sitting under the huge shadow of their two previous releases. However, it has some of the best songs Kyuss have written.
Thats right there is an extremely lucky streak of riffs. They are even technical, with those bends not only being decoratative but part of the riff, thats what always was special about kyuss. Kyuss was the most broudly loved band in the local scene i grew up in, only the youngsters didnt know them. But rock fans, extreme metal fans and melodic metal fans alike loved them
@@RiffLair Yeah that song is so fun to play, the little bends threw me off a bit but I got the hang of it. The middle section between the verses is also really fun to play.
I've just picked my guitar up again after nearly 20 years and thanks to this video l will definitely be dropping the tuning and practicing some Kyuss riffs 👍
This sent me down to memory lane, the times i was 18, in the army, some nights with the boys on the barrack, rocking to kyuss, to have some cooling time, whenever the drill sargent was taking a shit of getting busy with his CO, such nostalgic timed XD
Hey Tiki. Thank you 🙏 I am using a Stone Deaf Warp's edge drive. Has an EQ band for that Kyuss mid scoop. My Big muff probably wouldn't get this close. Can't remember if I tried that though.
An amazing job on all fronts... the fact that you had the drum tracks pretty much on point here to (as a drumm I love this) gave me some very well received, goose bumps on all your tracks. Its been said before Kyuss is King.... this is a great way to show case this mate, top shelf! TBH, there is not enough of this out there, so if you were ever so enclined, full versions or perhaps throwing in a few others to a "B-SIDES" would be surely equally well received.... I really missed the track ODESSEY here, that song is just a masterpiece! Love your work! 🙏
Thank you so much Pat. I appreciate the compliment about the drums. I always edit midi drums by hand and try to make it as close to the original. It can be very time consuming but I just can't skip this part most of the times. I will try and provide more of these. Thank you for your kind words & support 🤗
Very nice playing and tones.. Whitewater is definitely the best and sooooooo much fun to play. I love the intro, with the volume rolled off and then roll it up for the big riff. But you missed one of the very best. Spaceship Landing! 🤟
Dude that sounds incredible! Best tones from this and the queens video you did all with this warp drive pedal…… sold. I’m getting one right away. And of course your playing is fantastic as well!
Love it, all my favorite riffs in one video, Asteroid, Whitewater, Gardenia, Supa Scoopa.. There's only one great composition missing: Odyssey..nastiest riffs, quintessential stoner hardcore, and best intro of all, sounds good even unplugged.
WOW ! It just sounds amazing man ! Very well done ! Your Guitar Tone is so close to the original but I also fell in love with your drum sounds ! I was wondering if you're using a plug in or some recorded drums ? In any case, congratulations, very precise work of the tone !
Wow, thank you so much buddy 🙏 Glad you like my work. I use superior drummer 3 for my drums. I'd appreciate it if you could listen to my latest top 11 video and let me know how it sounds to you compared to this one 😎 Hopefully there's been improvement. Cheers 🤟
Oh man. Yes, it's the Warp's Drive. I thought the comment was on another video (answering via mobile). I don't know if I have The settings for the pedal though.
yeah no worries, also you pinned the settings on a comment. Considering getting one after this video alone. Tone for days!- Wonder if the black version would get you this kind of tone though. @@RiffLair
Great covers, I just wish you played each riff for a little longer! Also, ULTRA sad to see no representation off the first album! The Law and Highway 74 are especially great!
Thank you!! I never use plugins, only tube amps but.. with a Two Notes Captor X for the Cab for convinience. I don't know why but my neighbours didn't like me playing through my Orange PPC112 cab. 😎
The first I've ever listened to Kyuss was when I played need for speed carbon, it has "Hurricane" on the soundtrack. The funniest thing about it is that I also knew QOTSA through the NFS series, but I initially didn't know that Josh came from Kyuss
Hey Andreas. Thank you man! Funny enough I used my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe even though I have a Marshall Origin20 Head. It seems to take pedals extremely well.
Hey Davide. Thank you very much for the comment 🤟😎 I used my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III. It takes pedals fantastic although I have a Marshall origin 20 Head. I set my amps on the edge of breakup. I think I did with this one as well.
Yeah, nice ! For sure in the ballpark. The pedal can do this kind of tones pretty good. I mostly use it for Metallica, Kyuss, QOTSA etc. It can do more but yeah.. I prefer overdrives for simpler lighter gain stuff.
I really enjoy this, I wonder how much time it took to learn all the riffs... sometimes parts of these riffs just appear in my playing but I could never play them out like this.

Great choice... I think I would have to go with Whitewater but all are epic.
Thank you 🤗🤙🤙
Thank you! Maybe one inch man for me. Can't really pick only one 😎🤟
@@RiffLair do it...there's Soo many.. Fatso Forgetso, gardenia, demon cleaner...I could go on and on.
Josh homme is a legend
damn right! 😎
@@RiffLairhe is a coulomb of steps above legend….🤟🤟🤟
Hell yeah Homme is my Sun!!
well, but you know that some of their most famous riffs were written by Brant Bjork, right?
@@qubiskus I came here to say the same thing. Brant wrote a lot of their guitar parts and played drums. And I believe wrote some songs lyric wise.
Demon Cleaner goes down as one of the greatest stoner riffs of all time
Can't argue with that! That tom intro ❤️🤟😎
"Welcome to Sky Valley" is a perfect album.
Change my mind.
A classic!! 😎🤘
We can't. You are absolutely right.
I can´t. It´s just banger after banger.

Kyuss is rough, yes! QOTSA is polished. Both awesome tones and riffs 🤗😎🤟
Look up a video with Homme being interviewed by Matt Sweeney. Guitar Moves was the series but it got taken down but you can find it. Josh talks about taking away notes rather than being technical. Super smart if you ask me, think outside the box.
Kyuss >>>>>
Great playing and tone dude. And I'll always say that Whitewater is the best opening riff and tone of any song ever.
Thank you dude! 😎 I left if for the outro so we can take a moment and appreciate it hehe 🤜🤛
Headbanger's Ball on MTV introduced me to Kyuss. It was love at first note
Oh man. I only got to know them after the broke up. Glad I did though! 🤟
It was Tool's cover of Demon Cleaner for me, they did a great job with it at one of their live shows
Tool 🔥👏🔥
Green machine?
Same case - I've first heard Kyuss in a video about 90's metal and they still in my daily playlist from those day🥹
Damn dude. Got me feeling all nostalgic now. Kyuss was a big part of my life back in the 90s.
Kyuss rules man! 🤟😎
The opening riff to "Thumb" is simply phenomenal. It absolutely grabbed me by the balls when I first put on Blues For The Red Sun a few months back. What a way to open an album and set the vibe and mood for the rest of an album. You did it absolute justice.
I normally am not highly nostalgic, but WTSV is such a touchstone for me at 16. Really comforting.
For me it was AJFA at 16. I get it dude 😎🤟
...And The Circus Leaves Town is a seriously underrated and overlooked album, sitting under the huge shadow of their two previous releases. However, it has some of the best songs Kyuss have written.
Probably my favorite Kyuss Sound. A bit more polished but raw still. 😎🤟
1000% agree. "Phototropic" especially is one of the best things they ever laid down.
Spaceship landing is the last song of the album and I honestly think they saved the best for last! What a crankin tune!!!
Spaceship landing and phototropic are both absoloute gems but the whole album is fantastic

Kyuss kick ass!
Always loved how for a sound so deep and muffled it's still so damn melodic!
That guitar tone is EPIC! You nailed Josh's amazing sound!!
Thanks a ton dude! 😎🤟
Hurricane is definitely one of my favorite riffs of all time, can’t get enough of those slide riffs😂🤘🏼
Yeah man. I also think I got this a bit tigher than the other riffs. The guitar and bass are so glued together it sounds cool! 😎
@@RiffLair Yeah that song is so fun to play, the little bends threw me off a bit but I got the hang of it. The middle section between the verses is also really fun to play.
I heard this in need for speed when I was 10 and I've been in love with these guys ever since. First band I wanted to smoke to

Great playing dude!! Sadly I never heard of Kyuss until I got into Queens. But i do love Kyuss such a underrated band. 🤘
Once you figure them out, Kyuss songs are so fun to play. Turn that amp up to 11 and melt your troubles away!
Kyuss are amazing!! These go to 11?! 😎
Use any Amp that does go to twelve...
My Fender hotRod goes to 12. Friedmans Runt amps go to 11 though! Almost got me one.
Dig this band and the riffs . Thanks for sharing this man and nice job on the tone and the playing.
