Marine Corps: Women Worse Than Men In Combat

  • A year long study by the Marine Corps found that all male units performed better than squads that were mixed gendered. All male units were faster, more lethal, and more capable of evacuating casualties. All male squadrons performed better than 69% across the board at hitting targets, climbing obstacles, and also avoiding injuries. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian (The Point), Ben Mankiewicz (What The Flick?!), and Wes Clark Jr. hosts of The Young Turks discuss.
    Do you agree with the study? Should women be allowed to serve on the front lines? Let us know in the comments below.

    “A yearlong Marine Corps study trying to understand how gender integration would affect combat readiness has found that all-male units were faster, more lethal and able to evacuate casualties in less time.
    Overall, according to a summary of the study, all-male squads performed better than mixed groups in 69 percent of the tasks evaluated.”

      +Namelessandpure What strengths are those? Anything they could do men could do better. And sending a marine into a combat zone without all the necessary equipment, body armor, weapons, water, food etc seems very dangerous to them and their squad. Endurance is a big thing to.
      There is a reason war has primarily been a male thing, because men are stronger, are able to carry more equipment and for longer and can stand face to face with another man in combat (not as important today).
      I think once DARPA develops some sort of exo skeleton or nano-suit (they are working on them, I am sure in the theoretical stages) then women may very well be as effective as men in war.

Not every man is stronger than every woman. My point about sports is that they divide genders for a reason so I am surprised that any of the panel tried to question the validity of the study. No where did I say women shouldn't be allowed in the army or that they should even do the same testing as men. I merely commented about the reaction of some of the panel having a hard time accepting the conclusion of a study which just validates the point that everyone in the world knows but many will not admit allowed for fear of being called sexist

We need the science to prove things like that, but we don't necessarily need studies to be able to come to the conclusion that most women (on average) probably wouldn't be as proficient on the battlefield as your average man. I don't honestly see how you could compare those two different things as if they're on the same level of obviousness.

      Da Pikle Samurai I'm not understanding why anyone would argue against gathering knowledge, as you seem to be. Its like standing on a tree branch, sawing it off and expecting not to fall. Knowledge is what separates America from these backwards 3rd world countries who live like its the 5 century.The result of the study seems to support your position, only now it supported by facts. Why is that bad?
      My point is that common sense does not always provide the right answer. I could come right back and say instinct is more important for survival than common sense, but that has nothing to do with the point I was making.
      America's military does not work by picking the best fighters in the population. Its an all volunteer force and in American society, 99% of men in modern generations never serve 1 day in any branch of service. If it was about picking the best fighters we would draft college and professional athletes. The only top tier athlete I can think of who decided to serve was Pat Tillman. He was truly a hero.

    Women don't freak out in stressful situations? GTFOH, I'm a retired staff sergeant of the U.S Army Infantry (11 Bravo) when I was attached to this 88M (truck drivers) unit, we would go and stay out in the wilderness for no less than a month, the female soldiers would freak out over every little thing (every insect you can think of, deer, snakes, rodents etc). They would freak out when we had to do a 15 mile road march in full gear with your 50 to 75 lbs rucksacks on our back, there's plenty more but I'll leave it at that. I'm all for equality, but some things are not meant for the average woman to be doing. Female soldiers would literally cry when being yelled at or having to do push ups during hell week in basic training when you first arrive (two week intervals).

    Two years ago I was active duty in the Marine corps. I felt the gender separation from MOS may have been outdated, and that woman being introduced could do no harm in regards to combat roles. Then one day before my third deployment I was assigned to be a volunteer for a training operation in preparation for the deployment. We we're sitting in a MRAP replica that was flipped upside down, we all had a full basic combat load. The instructor named off a woman to pull me out of the MRAP I was unconscious, the vehicle was on fire and she had 2 mins to get me out.
    She couldn't, the instructor then put in a second lady to help, they still couldn't in time. After the third they were able to. These women were fit, they did pt never fell out from what I know, went to the gym had 22 or less min 3 mile run times. At that moment I realized the ugly truth. That needlessly throwing diversity in the ranks, could have resulted in my death. My mother and father and wife would mourn my passing not because I was directly hit, but because someone not fit was allowed to enter the fray based solely on their gentiles.
    The notion that your thirst for diversity and "equality" overpowers the right of someone life sickens me. Cause at the end of the day, that is what this boils down to. Anyone who has been in combat in any branch understands what I am saying.

These consequences or potential realities is in no way, shape or form related. These are factors beyond control, But putting in someone who can't do the job because you wan't to feel "open" is not the same. I mean you can do by a sober driver who is not distracted.

      ChakatBlackstar My point, which is clearly too complicated for you to comprehend is whenever you agree to do something, or partake in anything you accept risk. But there are risk that can easily be mitigated. Again when you drive a car, you know full well that death by car accidents or injuries are common. But trying to limit or remove drunk drivers decreases that risk. You see it's a variable that can be to a degree controlled.
      To be honest, it's a better example then the military as more people die in car accidents every year then have died in The War on Terror. 32,675 died in car crashes in 2014 for example, 96 a day average. compared to 2,385 who died in combat in Afghanistan (since we sent boots on the ground), and 20,000 injured. Even if you combined the injured and dead driving a car is a more dangerous prospect.
      And even if I wanted to be ignorant like you, your logic still melts away. All I'd have to do to defuse everything you said is "So our country should strive to make our soldiers safer, by eliminating those who can't physically or mentally handle the task." But don't worry you narrow minded egotistical fool. I am including men in that category. And trust me, men are denied enlistment, kicked from training, discharged from the military or refused deployments on these grounds all the time.

    Cav scouts will know what I'm talking about. We had a live round stuck in the breach of one of our Brads during Table VIII. Two female safety officers thought they were hot shit and came over to remove the cannon complete w/barrel out of the trunion. We stood at the ramp as they struggled and struggled to even pivot the cannon. Needless to say, after 45 mins I sent two scrawny privates into the turret to pull the cannon and 7mins later it was on the ramp with the track pivoted so we could dismantle the feeder and pull the track and bolt backwards. Those two females were dripping with sweat and holding their shoulders.
    Sure, you can complete 19D school. You can even drive the hell out of a Bradley. Might even shoot the heck out of one. But when the SHTF and you have a misfire and frozen breach, there is no time in front of the enemy for social experiments. Male and Female bodies are designed for specific functions in life. I know I know I know, you are probably thinking I'm saying barefoot and pregnant. NOPE, not at all. But what I am saying is when lives are at stake, and upper body strength on demand is the deciding factor on whether or not me and my Lt. have to stand in front of some private's wife and child and explain that his female gunner and commander couldn't clear a misfire in time and they got overran, I would rather offend the PC crowd then to lose any one of my troopers, female troopers included. Because unbeknownst to some, making these decisions to allow women in those types of units will ultimately land some unlucky female private on a tank, Bradley or LAV. You may have some say so in your MOS but the needs of the Army come first as well as unit of assignment.
    I guarantee if you take a trip down to any recruiting station and ask them how many females are signing up for "Direct" Combat MOSs, they will tell you the numbers are extremely low. So a handful of testosterone swallowing feminists are setting the rest of the women up for failure. Will a woman fire her weapon to defend herself or platoon, of course she would (Well not Jessica Lynch). Is a woman capable of joining patrols, yep. But MOSs that commonly rely on strength should not be open to women IMHO. You have to remember, you can't make policy to accommodate the 13 women in this country who look like Mike Tyson. You make policy that governs the "ENTIRE" force. And the entire force isn't lining up to join Combat Arms. CA is but 2-4% of the entire force.
    For the record, Israel does not have females in direct combat units. They protect border crossings and are in ceremonial infantry units. Namely the Caracal battalion. There is a HUGE difference in combat MOSs and "Direct" Combat purposed units. A Army Heavy or Mechanized Division is a Combat Division. But not every unit in the Division is a Direct Combat unit. Somebody has to perform maintenance on vehicles, treat the wounded, feed the troops, ensure their pay is correct etc. Out of 25000 soldiers organic to a division, probably less than 2500 actually see the enemy and engage him. SO yeah. Let women join combat units, let them earn all the accolades afforded the unit for it;s performance in combat. But leave the heavy lifting on the tanks and brads to those more suited for it. This is not a laughing matter. It's about life or death which 100% affects mission outcome.
    There is always that one person who will say something about Israel and that I'm lying about the female combat roles. So for that dude/duddette here you go:
    " Despite being officially classified as combat soldiers, women in combat roles are not deliberately deployed into combat situations. They are expected to respond in the event a combat situation does erupt, but are not deployed to situations where there is a high risk of combat. The three mixed-sex infantry battalions are deployed to border patrol duties on the Israeli borders with Egypt and Jordan and security duties in the Jordan Valley, and female infantry soldiers are barred from joining the front-line combat infantry brigades which are deployed in the event of war. Female tank crews, who are also only regulated to border guard duties, do not serve in the regular armored combat units."

The chicks on SWAT team were the tops among their sister peers and could not pass the pull up requirement nor could they clear the 8 foot wall with their gear without assistance. There are plenty of men who cannot perform either, but there’s also a larger pool of men that can. You have to ask yourself what’s more important. I also believe women lack that extra gear in a violent situation, the killer instinct that switches on when your life is in danger and you need to kill someone to survive.
      I grew up in the military but never served. I was in law enforcement, however, so we had training there with females in our ranks. Even during training, especially defensive tactics (unarmed combat basically), the females always struggled. Whenever it got intense or a female was being dominated, they almost always did one of two things: got beat up or curled up in a ball. I've seen more than a few outright freeze during training and not know how to deal with a big, angry man coming at them. Of course there some males who do this too but pretty much every female struggled, even the best ones who were mediocre compared to the men and vastly outperformed by the elite guys. That was just during training. On the street, it's commonplace for male officers having to jump in and help females during a fight. Female officers are certainly useful when it comes to non-physical matters like talking with and searching female suspects, but when it comes to physical matters like a fight, they simply can't keep up.

    As a marine I can speak to this, the basic physical test women do not do, a man has to run 3 1/2 miles, do 20 pull ups and sit ups in the pft, the women have a much lower standard, no pull ups, just hang from the bar, only have to run a 1.5 miles. If you are wounded and your life depends on a woman saving you , well, you will die, not acceptable

    • @tyherdle8364

      I can tell from your comment you are not a Marine. Any real Marine would know that female Marines run the same distance as males. However they are allowed about 4 more minutes to finish. Also its 3 miles, not 3.5. Your stolen valor is quite obvious to real Marines. Please next time you want to act like a Marine, spend 2 mins googling things first.

    • @howardbaxter2514
      @howardbaxter2514 6 років тому +17

      When I looked at the PT requirements for Army cadets, the maximum number of pushups pushups and faster 2 mile time for women were about equal to the minimum requirements for men. The only test that was equal across the board was sit-ups.
      That should say a lot if you ask me.

    • @ripscuds4467
      @ripscuds4467 5 років тому +10

      The Army pt test for men is minimum 42 pushups, 62 sit ups, 14 min 2 mile run. The minimum for women 22, 42, and 16 min. But after basic the ave male recruit improves to 62 pushups, 82 sit ups, 13 min 2 mile run. The standards should be the same.

    • @howardbaxter2514

      @Tennessee country boy I am saying that for a female to max they have to meet the male minimums.

  • @ripscuds4467
    @ripscuds4467 5 років тому +5

    They mentioned Israely women in combat, yes but there are very few because they only allow the ones who can do the exact same requirements as the men. In the U.S. military people keep saying the women do the minimum to pass but that's misleading because they lowered the standards for women to pass. The men have a much higher minimum requirement to pass then the women do. For instance the pt test for men to pass is a minimum of 42 pushups, 62 sit ups, and a 14 min 2 mile run. For women its 22, 42, and a 16 min 2 mile run. Plus at the end of basic training you have to finish a 12 mile road march with 70 lb back pack. And by the end of training the ave male doubles all his pt test scores.

    If some women can meet the same standards as men, then I have no problem letting them into the same combat roles as men. However, I have a big problem with lowering the standards just so more women can qualify. There are plenty of non-combat roles for women in the services, especially the navy and air force. If very few women make it into the marines and army infantry units, that's not the end of the world.

    • @annec9376
      @annec9376 8 років тому +5

      Absolutely agree. As they said, the top women equal the bottom men in physical ability. The standards have to be the same. There are women in the Rangers now and the Seals just allowed women this year without lowering the bar. Most women will probably go for executive positions rather than heavy combat jobs like the Marines. For those wanting active duty Special ops like the Rangers and Seals are ideal. Again, as long as the standards remain!

    • @Mutantcy1992
      @Mutantcy1992 8 років тому +14

      I disagree. It's not the same as firefighters or the police force. In the same study (I believe, may have been a different, similar study within the military), a problem that arose in mixed gender units that had nothing to do with females meeting the standards was males putting themselves in more dangerous situations in order to protect their female comrades. You can argue whether this is due to natural instinct or the men assuming that the women will need help in situations where they don't, but that doesn't really matter when the fact is that mixed gender units perform worse, and *more soldiers will die* in the same exact situation if it's a mixed unit versus an all male unit. We're talking about people's lives; it doesn't matter if it seems sexist if it's avoiding preventable deaths.

    • @annec9376
      @annec9376 8 років тому +3

      Yes, if the guys save one soldier over another based on gender there's a big problem. If the stronger man doesn't protect the weaker men in combat because he's male, that's dangerous and needs to be addressed with better training.

We know far more about the risks and difficulties individuals will face physiologically and psychologically, but we've totally forgotten how to accept even trivial suffering. It's also should be more apparent now than ever to the civilian world just how menial most of the military's job actually is, the vast majority of Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airmen will never fire their weapon in anger, they're more likely either working at a computer in an office cubical, carrying cinder bricks to the other side of a base because a truck unloaded them on the wrong side, or sitting in a barracks talking about masturbation playing video games than to be in some dramatic confrontation with the enemy.

      I'd like to add that the article does not include everything that was allowed but it does include some of the more pertinent examples.

    If I were a RANGER, I would be embarrassed. Personally I don't think those two passed RANGER school, between you and me. Secondly, why are trying to get men killed in combat if that were your son would you want him sacrificed over a woman. Thirdly, You ask were the future men are to join the military. Feminism is what happened to them...the future men to be are being raised by females and weak men that believe that women are equal to men. So the boys hear this propaganda and grow to be weak...did that answer your question.

      +Jam Rock Passing Ranger School does not make them a "Ranger" Actual Army Rangers (75th Ranger Regiment) go through RASP (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) , not "Ranger School". Ranger School is a leadership school.

      Jam Rock I'm a Marine too man. No woman has been allowed into the 75th Ranger Regiment or completed their training. Those are the only *actual* Rangers in the Army. Just because you have a tab from completing "Ranger School", you are not a Ranger. You must complete RASP to be a Ranger. RASP IS DIFFERENT THAN "Ranger" School. The only thing common between them is the use of the word "Ranger". Look it up or continue to live in willful ignorance.

The fact they can get to the course if proof that it is weak...Also the Marines did an all male unit verse a mixed unit the all male unit whipped ass at every obstacle and mission they were given. So is you want to fight the enemy with females go ahead its your funeral....no its the young devil dogs funeral make sure you tell HIS mother at least we have women in combat now and smile as you tell her that....

    A 43 year old acquaintance of mine has less time to do a 2.5km run in the army than a 20 year old female. If girls wanna play a sport with boys - especially when lives are on the line - they better be prepared to keep up with them. If a girl can meet the same combat fitness requirements as a guy, then let her in. If not, then you have to say 'no' to her. Sorry, but equality also means one standard for all, not one for men and one for women.

  • @steveouk90126
    @steveouk90126 6 років тому +2

    In related news, the sun is hot.
    I wore the uniform for 20 years and there's no greater, more effective way to prove that women can't hack it than being among them. I observed this firsthand, and documented the double-standards over and over. When the power-that-be discovered I was doing this, I found myself segregated from the others in the unit, openly denigrated and subjected to harsher standards than _any_ person, man or woman, could meet. For instance, when I was at Minot AFB in North Dakota, I observed and documented that any woman entering the workcenter could count on receiving some kind of award or recognition within the first 3-4 months while men worked their butts off and were rarely if ever recognized. This, they labeled "misogynist" because I had recorded names and dates of the events as they occurred.
    It's popular to take single, unique examples of individual women and create fantastical scenarios in which they're proven superior--but it doesn't last beyond that scenario. A man who observes and comments that women get special treatment will find himself plunged, within two days, into a scenario in which he's dependent on one or more women to achieve a given goal--which magically appeared out of nowhere shortly after he made the observation. This, because it's vital that women receive special treatment while simultaneously denying its existence and any person who refuses this denial _must_ be destroyed.
    There used to be a time when people were afraid that some dark secret they kept hidden would be exposed. But now the greatest fear is that something everybody already knows will be called by name.

    FACT: the USMC did try having women do the Pull Up test, upon that test 70% of the women in the USMC failed that test.

      So make the combat course requirements the same across the board And the 30% who passed deserve the jobs they physically qualify for. Not complicated.

    • @camaro2390
      @camaro2390 8 років тому +4

      +Briana Pierce The 70% fail rate alone would be enough for feminists like Hillary Clinton to claim that the military has a glass ceiling and isn't doing enough to empower women as a whole. I'm not saying the idea doesn't have merit nor that it shouldn't be the way it actually happens, I'm just saying I can see that scenario play out.

    • @flexibleaspect

      If less than 30% of women pass the male requirements, then it just isn't worth the extra complexity and cost to have them go through boot camp, trained, and then serve on the front lines. You need female specific boots, clothes, packs, helmets, possibly even guns built for smaller hands, medical facilities, living quarters, etc... And women still tend to get injured more often and serve for shorter terms. In other words, women are a bad investment in combat roles.

    • @ravoln2457
      @ravoln2457 8 років тому +5

      +Briana Pierce But why waste money on women in the military for infantry roles? Women would have to eat more and train longer hours just to stay in shape compared to her male counter part. Also aren't those in the mixed groups have females who have passed the tests and their still not as effective as an all male group? The standards have already been lowered for women. Why endanger peoples lives so women can play solider?

    • @Darling137
      @Darling137 8 років тому +2

      +Briana Pierce But it is more complicated as we've seen with this pull up standard. Female recruits failed it about 55% of the time, while about 1% of males did. But what happened when it came time to implement the standard? It was delayed because it would force out about 1/2 of the female Marines, which already have the smallest service rate for females (7%). And that's just one event (women do a flex arm hang), they have different standards on the run. Some politicians and leaders cannot bring themselves to say that most women are not what the military (particularly the combat arms branches) are looking for.

I was in the military and have 2 daughters and am all for equal rights but come on. When I went to do my job I went alone. When a woman counterpart went to do the same job she had to have a male accompany her to do the heavy lifting wth. I hated it and it caused rifts in the unit. A male slave to do the same task. Marines, also known as a marine corps or naval infantry, are typically an infantry force that specializes in the support of naval and army operations at sea and on land, as well as the execution of their own operations.
    In the majority of countries, the marine force is an integral part of the navy, but it can also be under the army, like the Troupes de marine (French Marines) and Givati Brigade (Israeli Marines), or form an independent service branch, like the United States Marine Corps and the Royal Marines (although, the United States Marine Corps is under the United States Department of the Navy, and the Royal Marines come under Her Majesty's Naval Service).
    Historically, tasks undertaken by marines have included: helping maintain discipline and order aboard the ship (reflecting the pressed nature of the ships' company and the risk of mutiny), the boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships, and providing manpower for raiding ashore in support of the naval objectives.
    With the industrialization of warfare in the 20th century, the scale of landing operations increased; this brought with it an increased likelihood of opposition, and a need for co-ordination of various military elements.
    Marine forces evolved to specialize in the skills and capabilities required for amphibious warfare.

    Do I believe women are unfit for combat? Not at all. Women have proven in history they are 100% capable. But the difference in physicality must be accepted as innate and not serve to bring down USMC physical standards.
    If a woman can hack the men’s standards for the infantry, then hell yeah. Bring her in. She earned it. Otherwise, POG job.

Still, I agree that they should let him speak, because they are not allowing him to explain better than he can. For example, No one in the military would compare Officer training to bootcamp, and they made it seem like he did. In the infantry, virtually all of Israel’s female combat soldiers are confined to two light battalions - the Caracal and the Lions of Jordan - which are assigned to guard the borders with Egypt and Jordan, the only Arab countries that have peace treaties with Israel. A closer look shows Israeli women are not in direct combat special operations such as the Green Berets. Nor are they in front-line combat brigades mobilized to engage in direct heavy combat.

    One of the problems I have heard about the modern infantry is the weight of their gear is getting to the point that even the men are suffering long term spine problems. The one equalizer in all this that is being developed is powered armor (yes science fiction is here). So far I have only seen a prototype exo-skeleton in testing. However, the future potential is amazing. Consider that you could put an 80 pound, weak, glassjaw in one of these, and automatically they become strong, have stamina, and can take anything smaller than a heavy machinegun round. These will truely be game changers.
