Holy sh**, every musician in this band are A+ experts who not only know how to slay on their given instruments, but they also know how to seamlessly compliment each other in a sonically-pleasing way as well when to take the spotlight during their solos -- makes me wish that I had one of those closet-filling rack stereo systems from the '70s with those bulky period clamshell headphones to listen to this in complete darkness with my eyes closed and just drift away to another time to forget about this f****d-up world that we live in (not that that time wasn't f****d-up in its own way, mind you; so, please don't kill my buzz)
Saw these guys in Frankfurt,Germany in 1973 ! They were opening for The Who ! Who’s next album had just came out. What a show it was ! Both bands kicked ass ! Tickets were 10DM (about $3.50 US at the time) The black afghan hash were smoking was 2 dollars a gram ! Damn I’m getting old ! Peace
This song will stand for 100 years from generation to generation. Radio stations that know what they are doing always manage to play this song between 2 and 4 AM on the most mystical or muggy nights. RADAR LOVE COMMEMORATES THE COSMIC MAGIC THAT HAPPENS BETWEEN A MAN & A WOMAN IN WHICH ONE ALWAYS INTUITS WHERE THE OTHER IS, IN WHICH ONE ALWAYS FEELS THE PLEASURE OR PAIN OF THE OTHER, AND IN WHICH ONE ALWAYS MAKES THE OTHER COME. & COME. & COME.
My 70s driving song when I would go to visit my long-distance girlfriend... still think of her and those days everytime I hear this song... great band lots and lots of talent which never got 100% recognized sadly.
I saw Golden Earring with Be Bop Deluxe at Winterland in 1976. What a show! Bill Nelson for Be Bop Deluxe was awesome! George Kooymans did some great guitar work for Golden Earring. Rinus Gerritsen did wonderful bass solos and Barry Hay played the flute, sax, harmonica, and guitar to perfection. Cesar Zuiderwijk had some very strong drum solos, too. I'll always remember Golden Earring as one of the greatest rock bands ever!
I saw them in Seattle 1975. At the end of the show I thought the drummer broke his leg jumping over his drum kit. After watching this, maybe it was just an act.
I agree with everybody who has only great things to say about Golden Earring or moreso. Great world-class musicians. Never got their due. So sorry to hear about George's ALS. What a guitarist! Didn't know that about Cesar and The Who. I bet he stayed with GE out of loyalty to his friends too. I just bet. I find his solos more interesting than Ginger Baker's. GE together for nearly 60 years? Unbelieveable.
You are spot on about Caesar staying with GE. His band mates told him to go but ultimately he stayed with his friends. There’s not a lot of information coming out on how George is doing now.
On our holiday to CA 2010 collecting our car..drive to the motel Quinta in San Fran ..this was the first song we heard on the radio..greetings from Holland
Saw them near Herzogenrath 1981, so many years after publishing Radar Love, at night, 3 black clothes men, tall and banged it all up - wow ! One of the Century Hits of 1900 !!! Love you Radar !
I was in Jersey in '85 at Six Flags amusement park...they left the stage after 4 songs and for good reason....11 kids died in a fire on the other side of the park....tragic, I will never forget it
Cesar Zuiderwijk once had an incredible opportunity to replace Keith Moon. The Who and Golden earring had toured together a couple of times. Cesar was just as big a party animal as Moon and his drum prowess was from a higher level as Moon's. But when the Who got in touch with Cesar to replace Moon, he declined the offer stating that he couldn't possibly replace Moon. But imagine if he said yes, what would albums like "Face dances" and "Eminence front" have sounded like with Cesar behind the kit?
Was geweldig Met Stips, en destijds ook Met Gelling. Maar Met z’n 4-en was het echt vollledig genoeg....Love Earring. Alle goeds voor Allen, natuurlijk helemaal voor George.
People in the USA need to know the Dutch origin of this band which they unwittingly know, due to just Radar Love, and wildly love throughout the eras, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s ...some radio stations over here, like KLOS in Los Angeles have had the good sense and the good taste to play it between midnight and 4am on those crazed nights celestial and libido-soaked. Radar Love is an institution. This song means so much to so many people: there are couples now married and fucking their brains out in the middle of the night because of this song. It is a life onto itself.
As a guitar player I've wondered about what guitar amps Kooymans are using; sounds so good! Not Marshalls or Fenders. In videos from 80s he can be using Vox amps.

English isn't this band's native language, so I'm curious, were their songs originally written in English? I guess I don't understand if songs are sung in a different language do the words fit with the music in both languages?
???? This footage is unique, its 48 years old from an upcoming band those days. At this moment, the band stopped because the lead guitarist, George Kooimans, is suffering of ALS and can't play guitar anymore. So let us be happy that this footage of an unique Dutch band playing in de USA does excists.

20 minutes virtuosity plus backflips a better song is a rare thing.
Cesar was one of the best drummer of the 70's , also Brian Downey and Tommy Aldridge and of course Neil Peart ( 2 bass drums drummers )....
