Saw Golden Earring in 73', 75' & 82' at Cutris Hixson in Tampa. This band should have been a lot bigger in the US. Great albums and their live shows were fantastic!
I saw Golden Earring live in the mid 70's and both times, supporting Robin Trower and Santana, they were the best act of the night. Big Trea, Blue Sea is my favorite song of theirs, and I can still listen to it nearly 40 years later and it's just as good. They were always great performers, consistent and fresh, which is really hard to do when touring as much as they did. Thanks, Absurdio1955!
In the early 70’s they performed this at Durham University in the Uk and used a quadrophonic sound system! Imagine this flute whirling around the room. Absolutely stunning.
Saw this very tour on the wrong side of the coast...got some great pics of George in his all white suit and non matching '59 Black Beauty...it was my introduction to what was to be called progressive music...this and Vanilla are 2 of the most intricate yet still rocking songs ever...combining flute fed through a delay the ARP 2600 a horn section and sequencers was revolutionary . One of those bands with no weak sisters. Rinus did the original synth work on the album Barry is a balls out Rock singer George is a master of subtle and Cedar well..lots of jazz chops and a somersault over his kit at the end! Criminally underrated ...in that respect similar to the Stranglers.
Moontan has always been in my collection, starting with vinyl and continuing with 8 track, cassette, CD and now digitally. I had never seen this performance on Big Tree, Blue Sea before and I am absolutely blown away. You talk about nailing it and taking it to a new level! I challenge anyone to show me anything out there today that could come close to this kind of talent.
Rarely do I agree with record producers messing with the way artists had their albums organized, but in the case of Moontan the US record producers helped create one of the best albums ever recorded. The European release of Moontan had a few songs that really didn't fit well, Suzy Lunacy and Just like Vince Taylor, so they were removed and in their place Big Tree Blue Sea and Vanilla Queen were added, creating a psychedelic masterpiece.
Slow to find here. I've always been strongly attached to their "wall of dolls" album, which has so many strong tracks like this one . Great stuff thanks!
@JohnnyCNote If you have the chance you should see them again! So many years later they are still incredible and just as fresh! They are definately one of the most under-rated bands in the world!
50 years a fan and still enjoying all of it, especially their live concerts I've been to many of them. The Dutch rock band known for such hits as “Radar Love,” “Twilight Zone” and “When the Lady Smiles,” has officially called it quits. The decision comes after George Kooymans, the band’s guitarist and co-founder, was diagnosed with ALS. Their last performance appears to have been in Ahoy (a conversion center in Rotterdam, Netherlands) in 2019. It is my humble opinion that they should have stayed with this style of music, they were the perfect combination rock and progressive music and would have had more exposure and success....Moontan is classic of mood texture and style,Switch and To The Hilt as well.....then it seemed they took a different path.
These guys were god level performers. American rock critics may be too stupid to recognize it but Golden Earring are legends.
I totally agree!!!
Golden Earring were inspired in their lengthy instrumental passages. I wish they had released more live material from this mid-seventies period.
This song, man so good took me to so many places in my head in 1973 and again 50 years later on 2023.
Golden Earring is so overlooked, this album is a masterpiece
Tell me something i don't know😂
I saw Golden Earring live twice still one of my favourite groups .

Two of my faves have flutes. Aquired/refined tastes, no matter, very good sound.

Such passion
It's good to hear they're still as good as ever . . .
Blijf me verbazen na tig jaar deze kende ik echt niet😂top livenummer
This is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. Thanks!
Wow! The middle section with the echoed flute, cymbals and spacey keyboard sounds is so futuristic. Pre-dating the ambient music genre.
Excellent band. Thanks for uploading this amazing performance.

1 van mijn favoviete songs, ik was te jong om dit live te kunnen zien, en ze hebben aantal jaren geleden weer gespeelt. ik was heel blij

they were electric.

I'm 59 now met a 45 yr old didn't know who these guys were I said adios
The flute is a very rock worthy instrument, that very few have used, the only other that I can think of is Jethro Tull!
Check this other Dutch band with flute, before Go,den Earring and Jethro Tull: Bintangs ua-cam.com/video/xnM24HgAdks/v-deo.htmlsi=EK0_rJB4kydx5TCN
