At 52 years old I will never get tired of this song. It must be played at top volume. Oh the memories this song brings to mind. The smells, the blacklight posters, etc.
i know exactly what you mean ... would describe it about the same, all the memories ... :-) i have seen them live in '76 and listen to the records and particularly to Vanilla Queen and Eight miles high until today
GOLDEN EARING LIVE DOUBLE ALBUM IWAS 16 AM NOW62 my favorite band in high school out of all great bands in the seventies 😅🎉😮❤ listen to their version of 8 miles high.
We saw Golden Earring 2 days go (7 dec. 2012) in Amsterdam. They still produce a highstanding and very rocking show...For almost 50 years now. Started in 1963... With great compositions in the 70's. Extremely expectional I think.
In my 67 years, listening to non-radio hits....I believe Golden Earring is without a doubt, one of the most under-rated/mega talented bands in rock history. Criminal how they've been ignored in the USA.
While sitting in the back seat of my 69 GTO with my girl friend de joir and taking speed this came on the car radio. Needless to say as soon as I heard it I went to get the LP. Those were the days!
Paul Meyer .......I wonder if you’ve seen this performance? The entire song is beautifully executed but beginning at 8.28, I think it’s George’s best (Vanilla Queen) solo, certainly the best I’ve seen, especially how much George is “into” the song. ua-cam.com/video/G-Jco-RMgDw/v-deo.html
Nearly 40 years ago, I heard this song (studio version) on Radio Caroline (pirate Nord Sea Ship..Mid Wave) and I never knew this was a Dutch Band (my neighbour country). Maybe because singer Barry Hay was an emigrated Englishman, I found out later :) In 1975 when I became a fan, I first liked all the more soft acoustic songs of the 60ies..(when Georges Kooymans was the real leader).Since 1970 (Back Home) they became more Rock orientated and they still are nowadays! A Monumentum of classic Rock!
I saw these guys around about 1975 at the Ford Auditorium in Detroit. It was the Switch tour, and I believe they were using The Who's quadraphonic sound system from their Quadrophenia tour. It was the best concert I ever saw, and I seen a lot! Incredible sound and the tickets were only $3.50!
Earring at their best. Seen them for the first time in the Vliegermolen -Voorburg, march 1975 at the age of sixteen. After Moontan and in the release of Switch. It all marked my youth and I (still) love it.
Exactly-This music is ahead of TODAY's 2013 sounds.Dutch- Kooymans was/is a genius. As a child prodigy, he formed the Tornadoes at 13 !1 [found out there already was a band called Tornadoes, so he picked Golden Earrings [plural]. SOON they had hits in Netherlands and UK. MOONTAN Album in 1974 was/is a Masterpiece.

Never heard this live version. I still like the studio version best. The guitar solo in that version still gives me goosebumps!
