1. You need the Iron present in meat. (Heme iron) red meat, liver, etc. 2. Avoid tannins while eating your source of iron - liquids such as any coffee, tea, wine, most beers, fruit juices such as grape, apple, cranberry, any berry juice 3. No chocolate/cocoa. It decreases iron absorption 4. Less ripe the fruit, more tannin concentration. Similar for berries, bananas etc. (Unripe bananas have high tannins) 5. Avoid most nuts, beans, legumes and lentils. 6. Avoid rye, barley and sorghum 7. Avoid spices like cinnamon, clove, thyme and vanilla.
Cinnamon! Oh Nooo lol. I started buying tins of Wild salmon, thinking I would boost my Iron, 200 g is only 2% of my day, but a couple tablespoons of Pumkin seeds in my salad is 25%.
How bout ginger, onion and garlic? They r spices too and very common in food.According to traditional Chinese medicine, spices actually worsen anemia .
@@ladinaii my aunt has shortness of breath from anemia I call them panic attacks, though. It's usually after a lunch at a steakhouse with 2-3 cups of caffeinated ☕ hot coffee sent her to the E.R. 3-4 times in a 6-week timeframe.
Omgosh i wish i found this video sooner! I was vegan for 7 years and had an ok run at first, then in the last 5 years i had 6 iron infusions and less than 2 months after each one id be symptomatic again. I ate all the right “iron rich” plant foods pretty much every meal, i was diligent about my health. I ate zero processed food, alcohol or sugar. Still struggling. I started eating meat 10 months ago after another infusion disappearing out of my system soon after having it. My iron levels were anaemic and shot through the roof after 6 weeks eating meat to the middle range of healthy. Been in normal range since. Now im week 1 carnivore and i feel like a superhuman!!! Thanks Doc!!!
I am a 54yo male, I was just diagnosed with iron deficiency, my hemoglobin was very low. Got blood work done. My Nurse Practitioner and my doctor told me because I had gastric bypass surgery and gallbladder/gallstones removal, my stomach is not absorbing the iron I eat much at all. They told me to take 65mg of iron with 500mg of vitamin C on an empty stomach. Unfortunately, I have had some side effects. Stomach cramps, complete flushing of my small & large colon (poopage) but they said it would take a while for my body to adjust to the intake of iron that has been missing. And this is something I will need to do for the rest of my life. Getting older is much more challenging than being younger.
Suggestions to do your own research on: Betaine HCL to aid digestion/lack of stomach acid due to gallbladder removal Dried organ pills to take daily for your iron supplement (personal brand recommendation would be PaleoValley but I’m sure there are other options out there!) Take with warm water or bone broth Best of luck

Ken Berry, this has changed my life! I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!! I have been suffering with this for several YEARS now and my anemia has gotten so bad to the point of nearly losing my sanity and my job. The worst has been my SOB, weakness, fatigue, severe body aches & pains, anxiety, and insomnia. I have been LITERALLY dragging myself outta bed and trying to maintain employment, be there for my kids and my elderly mom who was diagnosed 2yrs ago with CHF and COPD. I just started taking a multivitamin with iron and I cannot believe the difference it has made! I didn't have ANY of those symptoms I mentioned above, and my anxiety seems to have vanished! I cried tears of JOY..😭🥰😭 watching this video. My doctor said he didn't see anything wrong with me, except my cholesterol.
Why lie about the content of iron the body will observe iron from plant base than of meat beside the meat u will get is lace with bovine growth Harmone which is unhealthy Come on Dr, step into the truth of light
I went keto/carnivore 2 years ago after hashimoto thyroiditis diagnosis with a (non cancerous) nodule. Just had my scan and it has shrunk by HALF! Thank you to you and Neisha 💖💖💖!
How did your nodule shrink I have one on my right thyroid & I don't want surgery to remove it if I don't have to & I have to get a biopsy to make sure it's not cancerous
@@pjcorgi I eat mostly red meat but eat chicken thighs pork and bacon too. Some fish, I do have salad once in awhile, zucchini, cauliflower. Use lard and bacon fat for cooking...and eggs too. If you slip up and eat something bad just get back on and ride the ride 😉.
Well this was an eye opening, informative video. I am ketovore, eating mostly beef, bacon, eggs and cheddar cheese daily. Occasionally chicken. I was surprised to find out from bloodwork that I need to be supplementing iron even on that steady diet. I've been careful with green tea consumption because I was aware of how it affects iron absorption. I thought I was doing well. From this video, it would seem I am eating a ton of things that affect my iron. > I eat one small chocolate square of 72% dark chocolate after my meal. (ding) > I have one small snack a day made from: - heavy whipping cream - frozen raspberries (ding) - instant coffee (ding) - unsweetened dark cocoa (ding) - cinnamon and sometimes clove (ding and ding) - vanilla extract and sometimes vanilla powder (ding and ding) > For awhile I was drinking coffee with mct oil daily, too. Stopped that recently, at least. > I occasionally have a few cashews. (ding) This one probably isn't as bad as the daily use of so many of the others. Glad to understand why I was experiencing low iron on a strict meat-heavy diet. I've got some changes to implement. Thank you, Dr. Berry.
Me too am really low absorbing iron . I just couldn’t understand why ? I eat a keto based diet an few peices of dark choclate after my meal . I also make yogurt berries , seeds & nuts as my afternoon snack and drink a coffee after my meal . Am quite bad at the moment have no energy , always tired , heart palpitations and aches and pains in my upper arms an legs . I will look my diet over after watching this video 😮
I was too until I got off my favorite thing COFFEE ! Coffee free for 50+ days now. It took me many times of trying to quit. But, I finally did it , I will not go back to that addictive drug. First week I thought about it every minute of every day ( tell me that's not an addiction.) It was much better the next week and got easier and easier every day. I can now meet friends at a coffee shop and have an herbal tea with no caffeine. It was worth getting off of it. 😁
After I started eating 500 grams of liver every week and eggs every day I no longer need iron supplements. I feel better and my last five blood works showed no sign of iron deficiency.
Dear Layla, I am suffering from Anemia and I had infusion. I am afraid now to take a coffee even one per day. I experience a miserable time during my menstruation. If you have any idea how can I gain my iron please let me know. Thank you so much
I cannot thank you enough for the knowledge you shared in this particular video. I was desperately and unsuccessfully trying to increase my dangerously low iron level. I incorporated more beef, more bison and liver into my diet but the absorption wasn't where it should be. My iron increased just a little only to decrease again. Now I see that I was doing it all wrong. I sprinkled every piece of red meat and liver with thyme and/or cloves, I ate a considerable amount of dark chocolate 'to increase my iron any way I could', I consumed avocado with eggs, drank herbal tea, very very occasionally a glass of beer or a glass of wine with my meat or had it with a piece of bread. I have been short of breath on and off for years! I didn't know tannines were undoing all my efforts. This can be life changing for me. Thank you.
take 1mg copper, 15mg zinc in that balance. i wouldnt be suurprised thats what youre craving in order to use iron. the body recycles iron and needs copper to use it. it needs constant copper and zinc, mainly copper but must be balanced properly with zinc.
Sending this video to my Mom. She is anemic and her doctors can’t find reasons why. She does drink a lot of tea. I did share with her that before I donate blood I stop all caffeine in my diet for at least 1-2 weeks to ensue I’m able to donate.

Thank you sooo much. I used all these tips and it helped my daughter so much. We believe she had low iron for a year. This early February 2024, my daughter had a doctor appointment & blood test, etc. Her iron was very low. It took about 5 months to build up her iron levels. I followed these tips for every meal for my daughter and she wanted to feel better so she was good with adjusting with every meal. Amazing!! These tips worked. She feels so much better. I developed iron deficiency anaemia as a result of the chemotherapy drugs they gave me to treat my cancer. They gave me an iron infusion but I still feel I could do with another a few months later. It’s a good job that I love meat, especially liver and vegetables. Thank you for this very helpful video - nice, clear and concise.👍🏻
Thank you for this video. I ended up needing 26 intravenous iron infusions and was facing blood transfusions my iron deficiency anemia was so bad. The symptoms were horrific. My heart rate and blood pressure and sweating was so high during the “episodes” it caused that my doctors were wondering if I had a pheochromocytoma secreting adrenaline. Nope, it was the iron deficiency! My iron deficiency went undiagnosed for years because it didn’t cause low hemoglobin until the end. It wasn’t discovered until they did an actual iron panel.
@MrBearcat68 Wow!!!! you just described what I have been going through for the last 4 years! After a massive blood loss in 2019 i tried nourishing myself My Doctor keeps checking my hemoglobin but it came back at 10-11. What type of anemia did you have? I have these "episodes" the sweats and heart racing, head pressure and dizzyness almost like my brain is missing oxygen! Can you provide more information please 🙏🏽 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😭😭😭 I'm so desperate to heal myself from this!
You mentioned beans inhibit iron absorption due to tannins content. But we read every where that beans are high in iron and should be consumed to improve iron. So is that not true?
I’ve been vegetarian my who life. I always knew that I was anemic and was prescribed iron supplements when I was a young child. They made me so nauseous I couldn’t take them. I stopped worrying about my anemia until recent years as I have started connecting the dots between my anemia and health issues. I started taking grass fed beef liver on most days. I did notice that on days that I eat or drink a lot of the foods/drinks on your list I feel like the life is draining out from me in the following days.
I first suffered iron deficiency anaemia at about 5 years old, I’m now 80 and keto/carnivore so this really provides the information that has been missing for 75 years! That said I think I’m pretty ok except sometimes black tea after which is easy enough count out.
Great video for a problem I have had for many many years. Keto has actually been the lifesaver. Since starting keto 2 1/2 years ago, my iron levels have increased and leveled out. I’m no longer taking the iron supplements and eating a lot of red meat. This is much needed information.
I just had a doctors appointment today and because of keto, and the iron deficient anemia I’ve had for years, I have gone from a 5 hemoglobin count to 11+ (with no supplements) By sticking to a keto lifestyle.
@@marvamason hemoglobin is important but it’s not a measure of iron status. Your doctor needs to be running a full iron panel that includes ferritin (iron stores) and transferrin saturation %. Most docs aren’t doing the proper tests. Wishing you continued success and optimal health.
Thank you Dr. Berry great information. I ate everything you mentioned while eating vegetarian. My hemoglobin was around a 6 during that time. I had to get iron infusions which was unpleasant not to mention a bout with anaphylaxis quite scary. It's not pleasant to receive large doses of steroids and benedryl through IV. After that scare I was told I needed to keep up the infusions which I did until my numbers went back up. Thank God I'm over that now I'm carnivore and loving the energy. I will share this video on my Facebook, I have a few friends who are vegan and suffer from anemia. Blessings to you and your beautiful family ❤️
I just went into anemia after having an endoscopy/colonoscopy procedure. My Hemoglobin went from 12 to 11 to 9 now. Surgeons performed an emergency endoscopy this past Sunday. I’ve been eating Liver - I had some Tuesday and I’ll have some today (Friday). The liver really helped.
I am going for both of these procedures in early October. My hemoglobin is 97g/L, down from 124 and ferritin is 4 but I am having these done per the request of my Dr to find out why I don't seem to be absorbing iron.
@@yeahexceptno maybe you drink lemon juice with lots of citrates that depletes copper needed for the enzyme Ceruloplasmin (with 8 copper atoms) that you need for iron-transport into the body. See Morley Robbins: My Theory on Everything...especially the no-no Tables at the end.
If you still can't absorb Iron, make sure you don't have H. Pylori, a stomach ulcer, and or a higher pH for stomach acid, as they affect your ability to absorb Iron among all other vitamins and minerals. Zinc and Salt help make HCL for better stomach acid to properly breakdown nutrients and absorb them.
You're probably right. I felt so under nourished and sick with h pylori. After being treated I bounced right up after I realised I was so deficient in everything and taking supplements. Now my diet is pretty much enough.
@@miriam2909 iodine is still required by every cell in the body, most people probably don't know this (they know about the thyroid needing it). A former coworker had her thyroid removed so was taking synthroid. My husband has ongoing anaemia and his cardiologist thinks a recent stroke my husband had was caused by anaemia. He is on iron tablets but the anaemia refuses to go. My husband has had a fit test for internal bleeding and this was negative. Interesting point about the tannins as my husband has a glass of wine each day and drinks coffe and tea. Thank you so much for a very informative video.
Most iron tablets for most people do not provide bioavailable iron. It's sort of like the iron in Wheaties. It doesn't matter how much iron there is, if it 's just passing through you.
Dr. Berry, I just LOVE you!! I just had this conversation with a friend whose doctor told them to take a plant iron! Now I have even more to back up what I told her about the plant iron they were taking. She and her husband paid a hefty sum for this doctor's so-called elimination diet nutrition program...when I suggested, as an Integrative Health Coach, who wouldn't have charged them a thing, to just try eating a Carnivore diet. And, all the foods you mentioned are also high in oxalates.
This doctor only forgot to tell that heme iron is associated with cancer. So, even though the absorption is in fact better, it is not recommended at all to have a carnivore diet as it is very poor in vitamins and some minerals. Also, non heme iron can be much better absorbed when you consume vitamin C and beta carothen together. You can, for example, have you're supplement with an empty stomach accompanied with lemon juice.
@@boutch1993 The Carnivore diet, eating nose to tail, provides us with all we need in vitamins/minerals. My comment is TWO years old. This answers so many questions!!! For the past 5 months, I've been doing keto to lose weight and feel better. Well I lost 60 lbs in 4 months and have been on a plateau for the 5th. I feel a little better, but not great. Come to find out, adding vanilla and cinnamon to my 5 cups of coffee a day, eating peanut butter with my celery, and having pure dark chocolate to reduce my sweet cravings, all added up to reduced iron. To the point I was fatigued after little exertion and would get dizzy upon standing. Thanks for the amazing timely information!! Next step for me is to do carnivore 30days, see how it does for me

I regularly give blood. It is amazing how my iron has gone up since I am carnivore. From August to August, it has gone up to off their charts. Eat right people.
I eat meat, eggs and fish only……..I drink water only except for two coffees in the morning……..I have conquered type 2 and I’ve lost 41 kgs so far and I’m still loosing weight…….I feel fantastic, me energy levels are off the charts, my eyesight is no longer blurry from type 2, my neural neuropathy is fully resolved…….at 60 years old I’m a new man and I’m far more mentally alert and well adjusted than I was before……..my message IS that eating a zero carb carnivore diet is extremely effective if you want to actually heal your body and your mind…….listen to doctor Berry, I did !!

I have been struggling with IDA for years and have to have infusions even though I'm 90% carnivore. Dr never said anything about tannins. I drink mostly tea, some coffee, don't drink alcohol, don't eat grains, legumes, bean or nuts and no fruit. They think it's my heart or I'm bleeding somewhere. Facing gastroenterology and an angioplasty both for a second time. Even though you've armed me with knowledge to go on with Dr Berry I'm angry now ( not at you, at my Dr). Will eliminate tannin containing foods and see how it goes :)
Donated blood today and iron was 47. Thank you for the video and tips! Heme-powered by moose and beef! 👏 After anemia due to a fibroid the size of a grapefruit (and cruddy diet), I am so blessed to be able to donate blood now.
Iron serum is fluctuant in blood. Check your morning fasting ferritin and transferrin saturation (should be over 100 and 20% for no iron deficiency but optimal ferritin between 150 200 and transferrin sat around 35 %. Ferritin also can be a false high if any reason of chronic or recent inflammation, so transferrin saturation is the real cut off in these cases.
Yup. I learned all of this in 2013 when I tried to naturally increase my ferritin, which was at 4. I took an animal based iron supplement and avoided coffee, chocolate, and dairy. Took it with OJ to help absorption. Within three months my ferritin increased to 40.
😱 wow… after open heart surgery and profound menstrual bleeding… I had a ferritin level of 2. My GP figured it out when I wasn’t getting any help with the cardiologist. Low ferritin has the same s/s as a heart attack in women. I still remain on the low end of normal and didn’t realize that my old diet was probably contributing to me not absorbing the iron. Hopefully my iron and ferritin improve with the PHD!! Thank You 😊

I was just diagnosed with a dangerously low HB, it was 5.8. I think the Doctors were surprised I was still alive, telling me I've been very lucky to get to the hospital when I did. I had 3 blood transfusions over night and it brought my HB back up to 7.2. I am now taking Ferrous Sulfate 200MG tablets daily, and eating more meat. It's only been two days since the blood transfusion and I still have to undergo a number of tests to work out why it dropped to such a dangerous and life threatening level. They think I've had a GI Bleed or Intestinal Bleed, although the CT Scan didn't show an active bleed. I still feel weak and unwell, but I am hoping to slowly improve over time. My symptoms were horrific, I couldn't breathe properly, could hear my heartbeat in both ears, was Tachycardic and felt light headed every time I stood up and moved about. I had those symptoms for 10 days straight and just assumed I was poorly, I am so thankful I decided to go to hospital, I don't think I'd have survived much longer, in fact the Doctors told me, another couple of days at best, I'd have suffered a heart attack, stroke, multi organ failure or simply fallen asleep and not woken up. Thanking my lucky stars right now!
Wow I drink pomegranate juice ( Just googled it is high in tannins ) and berries with my turkey sausage and eggs for breakfast. Deeply appreciate being able to freely learn this!! Thank you SO MUCH Dr. Berry!! I had fatigue for a long time and didn't realize it was caused by my "healthy" vegetarian diet!
Dr Ken Berry..Suppose you have the opposite problem of high Hematocrit 50-52, Hemoglobin 17-18.5…but with normal iron levels, how do you lower that? Hematologist ruled out any known cause?

Wow, Dr. Berry! Just wow! I have had severe anemia from celiac disease. Had two blood transfusions over the years and most recently had iron infusions three years ago. My iron levels have been good since the infusions. I see a hematologist and have my levels checked regularly. Seeing all the things you say to avoid has me wondering if my levels would be even higher if I avoided the tea that I love to drink and avoided any beans (though that's pretty limited since keto), berries, and chocolate.

I read all the reports and for those of you freaking out! No worries these are mot long term studies and generally one meal! Also, many of the studies don’t discuss non-heme vs heme! So, heme iron doesn’t reduce significantly ig tannins are present! Also, wait an hour before consuming tannin rich food if you are concerned. Adding vitamin c rich foods also helps with iron absorption. I’m surprised the doc didn’t read the reports accurately and one report said meat iron or heme forms are not affected by tannins unless in huge amounts! Also, long term there isn’t enough research, scientist’s suggest that the body adapts to the tannins and your absorption will increase in non-heme sources!😊
Wonderful information, thank you very much. My iron levels have historically been low since I was a teenager. I am 67yrs old now, having had lots of iron injections, pills and even infusions. This information may be the answer I have been needing for years. Thank you again..👍😁❤🇳🇿
Such a great video. I have suffered from IDA for 20 years..I’m also consume unsweetened tea with EVERY MEAL and usually have raspberries or blueberries in my dinner/lunch salads. Wow! No more berries or tea with my meat meals. Thank you! That is along list! 😅
Well this was informative! Had absolutely no clue tannins were in anything else other than wine, coffee and tea. Holy crap. And didnt know something like this would contribute to the iron anemia issue. Perhaps this explains when ive seen many folks still tired after drinking a pot of coffee? I'm sure it would have to do with those who arent diagnosed mainly and long term.
I have RLS which is heavily dependent on iron levels. But He lost me at liver. Even the smell of liver cooking makes me vomit since I was 3. Same for vinegar foods like sautkrat or canned spinach. When I was a kid I was chronically anemic. I ate meat, I took the sticky syrups (they were always green for iron - cough syrups were always red) and I remember the doctor telling my mother to make sure I ate green beans... I ate lots of grains... When no one was looking I binged on chocolate and sweet fruits. This was in the 50s. Last time I was told I was anemic (after a significant flu experience) the medics told me to eat prunes and raisins and oysters. Lectin sensitivity eliminates MOST of the fruits and veggies, legumes (no seeds or seed pods) and while I can deal with lime juice (fresh, organic) avos and olives, most of the Conventional Diet is off my acceptable list. Still, cold brew coffee (diluted and limited in quantity) and green or oolong teas are on my list, with lettuce, arugula, alliums grass fed dairy and grass fed beef, lamb and rabbit. I shall be separating my meat intake from my tea/coffee intake (easy to do with intermittent fasting). I doubt that I'm anemic any more, but my heart is a bit wonky.
Interesting. I’ve been doing keto for 4 years. My ferritin/ iron panel was low. I tried to take ancestral grass fed beef liver pills but my ferritin went from 14 to 7. I had to go on iron supplements. My natural path doctor couldn’t understand it because I eat keto. I started taking hema-plex and my Ferritin went to 30. I am feeling a lot better and less tired. I do have hypothyroid/Hashimotos so maybe that could be why 🤷♀️
@@aneta567 no it didn’t. It has other vitamins in it. I do take magnesium (glycinate) nightly. That could also be why. I had no issues taking it. My levels are all finally in the normal range, so I have it checked every few months, but I don’t take it daily anymore.
I just finished iron infusions after being close to needing a blood transfusion after hemorrhaging in childbirth. Before I got the infusions I felt like death… watching this so I can hopefully prevent having los iron ever again in my life.
I'm on a LCHF diet, lots of animal meat and my ferritin levels are low. Started supplementing with liver supplements. I need to stop my afternoon coffee and my almond butter.
There’s so many ways to increase Ferritin and Iron. The issue of going back in time to start suggesting red meats and liver makes my head pop. Yes, eat those but make an appointment with a cardiologist also to now treat cardiovascular issues…..
I think a very important think in terms of mentioning all of this is the fact that olive oil has a lot of polyphenols and people may use olive oil on their pans while cooking eggs for example. I have 6 eggs in a pan with no olive oil this time and am very excited.
Dr. Berry….bless you for the amazing video’s you and Neisha continuously do for our benefit. I just had a light bulb moment with my recent diagnosis of low iron. Thank you 🙏🏽
Thank you. I didn’t realize that my one meal a day that contains a lot of tannins would be a problem. I came to YT to help me understand why my iron levels are still a problem. I’m literally perplexed. I drink green tea, love my beans and peas, love my fruits, and dark chocolate. 😢
Wow .. I never had issues with iron up until a few years ago and I went raw made it worse …I had iron pills and they would only work while on them and end up anaemic once I was off them for a month or two .. I have gone keto/carnivore and got myself a cast iron pan and in three months I am happy to say my iron has been going up …. This makes so much sense ….
Oat also prevents iron absorption. I learned that 3 months after I had my son and I had oatmeal for breakfast every day and that was when I was taking my iron supplements. I also was probably taking non-heme iron supplements to make things more difficult; my iron was low during my whole pregnancy. But thank you God I have a healthy son today. 💙

1. You need the Iron present in meat. (Heme iron) red meat, liver, etc.
2. Avoid tannins while eating your source of iron - liquids such as any coffee, tea, wine, most beers, fruit juices such as grape, apple, cranberry, any berry juice
3. No chocolate/cocoa. It decreases iron absorption
4. Less ripe the fruit, more tannin concentration. Similar for berries, bananas etc. (Unripe bananas have high tannins)
5. Avoid most nuts, beans, legumes and lentils.
6. Avoid rye, barley and sorghum

Suggestions to do your own research on:
Betaine HCL to aid digestion/lack of stomach acid due to gallbladder removal
Dried organ pills to take daily for your iron supplement (personal brand recommendation would be PaleoValley but I’m sure there are other options out there!)
Take with warm water or bone broth
Best of luck
How can anyone prescribe iron and circle first thing on empty stomach??

Sounds like you need to follow the advice in this video then.

This doctor only forgot to tell that heme iron is associated with cancer. So, even though the absorption is in fact better, it is not recommended at all to have a carnivore diet as it is very poor in vitamins and some minerals. Iron serum is fluctuant in blood. Ferritin also can be a false high if any reason of chronic or recent inflammation, so transferrin saturation is the real cut off in these cases.

Lunch and dinner ends with 2 squares of dark chocolate .. been doing this for 2 years. Just found out I’m very anemic . This explains everything . I also have extremely heavy periods .
Deeply appreciate being able to freely learn this!! Thank you SO MUCH Dr. Berry!! I had fatigue for a long time and didn't realize it was caused by my "healthy" vegetarian diet!
This is one of the very worse problems with the so-called vegetarian diet -- the lack of iron.
Dr Ken Berry..Suppose you have the opposite problem of high Hematocrit 50-52, Hemoglobin 17-18.5…but with normal iron levels, how do you lower that? Hematologist ruled out any known cause?
@@LastTrump7 Do you ever donate blood?
@@boink800 I never had until two years ago. I have three times since then. Hemoglobin was 16.7, 16.7 and 18.5 those 3 times. Last one was month ago. I have not been able to donate every 3 months like I wanted to but seen no lowering in the three times I did though 4-8 months apart.
Legumes are a good source of iron. So I'm wondering why animal sourced iron is deemed a better option. Could there be another factor at play here?
Great information. I've had a low iron for years but since the past year to now, I constantly feel lightheaded and find it challenging to do home chores or go out to get groceries or run errands. I am taking an iron supplement as Dr recommends but seems my body really isn't absorbing much of this iron.
This is exactly what's happening to me
I'm celiac & went vegan 6 months ago. I became anemic, had a boutique of Epstein-Barr and caught covid all in the same month. I've been taking prescription iron pills & I can barely get out of bed. The 2 videos on anemia are invaluable, they've connected the dots for me. I will be eating "therapeutic meats & eggs " now. Hopefully I'll recover.
Check your thryoid
Thanks!
My pleasure Caro, thank you!
Hi, i like your video, informative. does apple cider vinegar contain tannins ?
Wow, Dr. Berry!
What's your experience with the infusions?
@@ejuarez8252 the iron infusions took 4 weeks about an hour each time and they helped build up my iron in the blood to the point where my iron levels are good every time they check (been 3 years now) and I'm no longer tired like I used to be.
Are you by chance rh negative? I am having same issues and I am rh negative. Wondering if thst has anythjng. To do with it
Thank you for this @DrKenBerry I have been treated for IDA for years and this is the first time I have ever heard of “tannins” (amazing)
I went to give blood several months ago and they told me I was low in iron. I will look into how I can have my liver and onions and a side salad.
For many years I suffered from anemia. I've been keto and eat mostly meat for 4 years, but was still anemic until I started taking liver pills. Now my iron plus folate and B12 levels are better.
My dad loved liver but only cooked it when I was going to be out of the house for several hours. That's true love of your child.
This the most helpful and timely Dr Berry video I've seen out of hundreds. I have been eating Practically ALL the items you mentioned along with meat and eggs while getting weaker and weaker. I offer my complete gratitude.
You’ve been getting weaker and weaker listening to him?
@@PropagandaAI Weaker eating tannins. Now I know it was most likely Transiting Neptune opposing my natal Sun as well as Transiting Sun opposing Transiting Neptune.
Thank you for this informative video . I was told I have anemia . I never had low iron levels until I turned 61
Male carnivore hospitalized with anemia here. I think what did me in was a seemingly healthy additive…green tea extract!…and macadamia nuts. I used to drink 4-5 energy drinks per day with the green tea extract. 1 lb of nuts per day too.
A pound of nuts is a heck of a lot of oxalates, too! Amazing that you could digest that much without constipation!
Eating plants is keto not carnivore. Do you mean keto?
Carnivore is about eating clean and eliminating harmful substances. Drinking that many energy drinks is a problem
My situation is the opposite in that I tend toward high ferritin. Bring on the tea.
How do I get a consult with Dr. Ken Berry?
What are the signs and symptoms of IDA? How would one know they have it. Thanks.
Dr.Berry, you are the best. Thank you for all that you and your lovely wife do, Congrats on the new little one, I've been away for a while, and I'm just now catching up on your video and love the Instagram ones.
thanks for doing the video Iron Deficiency Anemia (avoid this!) 2025. i have been struggling with my iron. I am working with my Doctor
Thank you Dr. Berry! You always seem to have answer spot on to my questions. I'm just about to turn 60 and have transformed myself to a carnivore during the last year and lost some 90 pounds in the process. I have done OMAD for the last 6 months and I have started donating blood. My hemoglobin came down from 152 to to 142 in 4 months. I think I should conclude the culprit is that glass of red wine that I regularly have with my meal.
Again, thank you for producing your high value content
This is GOLD ! I cut my afternoon coffe the moment i saw this. Thank you very much 👍
Thank you! Thank you! This is such good information. I have had to have iron transfusions, but haven't had any for many years as my doctor had retired. I haven't found a new doctor to follow-up with this. Again thank you so much for this information. Bless you for all you do with helping getting us the information.
Thanks Dr Berry.
It's very enlightening. I've been eating the wrong foods, which helps caused me a lot of grief.
they are not wrong, they just shouldn't be eaten with an iron rich meal.
Dr.Berry you saved my hide by doing a video when covid hit. You said you were doing this vedio to answer questions about what the media was not covering. It was you that tripped my alarm. Been following you since, you are amazing! Thank you for being real and for the people not the pharma. We can all stand to learn from what you teach. Happy New Year.
What is there left to eat
Meat
She’s a Neanderthal
I would like to know myslef
Im moving on this right now. Im tired of being the girl in a winter outfit most of the year
I have too much iron, hemochromatosis but the keto seems to be making a difference, I haven’t needed a phlebotomy treatment in six months
Thank you this is so informative!! majority of the tannins foods are part of my cultural foods!
Hi! Just wondering if the hema plex gave you any constipation, this is always a problem with supplements for me. Thank you
@@aneta567 no it didn’t. It has other vitamins in it. I do take magnesium (glycinate) nightly. That could also be why. I had no issues taking it. My levels are all finally in the normal range, so I have it checked every few months, but I don’t take it daily anymore.
@ajatracy1299 thank you for taking time to answer! Many blessings
@@ajatracy1299do you still consume tannins?
I just finished iron infusions after being close to needing a blood transfusion after hemorrhaging in childbirth. Before I got the infusions I felt like death… watching this so I can hopefully prevent having los iron ever again in my life.
Low*
I'm on a LCHF diet, lots of animal meat and my ferritin levels are low. Started supplementing with liver supplements. I need to stop my afternoon coffee and my almond butter.
Take lactoferrin also
Only way I absorb iron from the iron pills
There’s so many ways to increase Ferritin and Iron. The issue of going back in time to start suggesting red meats and liver makes my head pop. Yes, eat those but make an appointment with a cardiologist also to now treat cardiovascular issues…..
Damn it. Coffee and dark chocolate? You killed me.
Same here. I’m hoping small amounts between meals won’t be harmful.
Just take a supplement
Basically don’t eat 🤷🏾♀️just saying
He was just saying not to eat in within a certain period of taking iron.. he didn't say you cannot consume those things at all
Only for a little while (maybe an hour or two) before and after eating the iron-rich meal 🥩
you can still enjoy them, just avoid them with a n iron rich meal.
So how long after or before can we drink these or eat these things?
My Ferrous Sulfate supplement bottle says for maximum absorbtion take it on an empty stomach one hour before a meal or 2 hrs after a meal.
This makes so much sense ….
raw carnivore?
But we are Irish. ☘️ We drink tea after dinner all the time ! 😮
Oh my gosh! No wonder my energy was going down. Thank you for this video.
Yes! How long before and after eating should we wait to have these things??
My Ferrous Sulfate bottle says for maximum absorbtion take it on an empty stomach one hr before a meal or two hours after a meal.
an hour or two before or after an iron rich meal
Oat also prevents iron absorption. I learned that 3 months after I had my son and I had oatmeal for breakfast every day and that was when I was taking my iron supplements. I also was probably taking non-heme iron supplements to make things more difficult; my iron was low during my whole pregnancy. But thank you God I have a healthy son today. 💙
Another helpful video! Indigo Nillie recently had to get supplemental iron. She was carnivore and still low iron!
I'm not sure she was carnivore. She has said a few times she thought carnivore was too extreme and wouldn't do it. I could be wrong.
Yes , maybe tannins in the diet ?
I am not sure she stuck to any certain diet.
She also was diagnosed with Sibo which blocks irons absorption
Is that a person?
You should also avoid dairy. Calcium rich foods also interfere with absorption
Great content!
Thank you for your time and video, I have chronic blood loss anemia, I am going to eliminate some item's and see if it helps.
Thanks so much for this. Drs over the years told me to forget a vegetarian diet that I can't handle it.
Listened to many of your video's as I have found out I am Anemia as they took blood as I have a wrist fracture and been searching why as I did not believe the tests, over 60 female
