Toler’s entire solo is unreal.
Man, you can feel the energy. They are on fire. Top of the game
I can't tell you or even try to explain what it was like to see The Allman Brothers Band from '71-'79 ✌️❤️🌼
Dan Toler is as fluent a player as I've ever seen . It's assertiveness and impeccable timing that makes the special ones
@OutsiderSoul there's an entire genre of music with dudes who can play fast but musically at the same time.
Killer solo from Dan Toler.
And NO guitar face !
God, this is the quintessential Southern blues-rock epic.
It’s the southern rock stairway to heaven
Guitar gear alert here! If you look real close you can see that both Dickey and Dan are using their neck pickups to solo. If you look really, really close, you can see that Dan has the bass side of his pickup lowered below the level of the plastic mounting ring, and the treble side of the pickup up closer to the strings. Dickey has the entire pickup level and slightly below the level of the mounting ring. I remember reading that both Dickey and Gary Richrath used to lower their pickups and raise the action, the idea being that they would get less magnetic pull on their strings, and more sustain as a result.
That's some real good observation there, now why don't you go and make up your own s*** instead of fantasizing about the past that isn't coming back and nobody doing anything to supplant or surpass it.
Nerd alert!
Funny thing is totally get it & love it 🤣
"The idea being that they would get less magnetic pull on their strings and more sustain as a result," this isn't idea as much as it is proven fact--there's nothing special about this, sorry. Every guitar player knows this to be fact--of course higher action results in better sustain.
@@zachsabbath1 Well, still…
Honestly I think it has to do more with the fact that their amps are cranked and to their full potential.
Okay that close up shot of his face and you can see his fingers dancin on the fretboard in the reflection of his sunglasses… fuckin sick
As the day I first saw this in 82 on MTV and even now in 2021, I am still fixated on Dangerous Dan Toler's solo. Still in awe of how he remembered all that. Omg, the stamina.
Dickey has always been my favorite brother, he is one of the best of the best.
Dan could make a guitar SING!! I like how he thee in a few Duane licks at the beginning of his solo. Much respect.

I'm greatful to have seen the Allman Brothers 4x 73-88.
Those were better days.
I'm jealous. Never saw them live.
What a great singing, love that raspy voice. RIP Gregg
Green River Yes! One if the best blues rock singers ever! R.I.P Gregg Allman.
Great song and a killer solo by Dan toler great guitar player 🎸
For many years have loved their music. I’m 66 still listening to it
Through the years, I keep coming back to this video to listen to Dan Toler´s Solo. Dan Toler on Beast Mode.
Great solo
Dan was phenomenal
Gabriel
Thx
I too will keep coming back to the brilliance of Dan Tolers fretwork in this song and passion to honor all the Allman Brothers
Tough gig to stand next to Dickey or even play with Gregg unless you really are a hands down sanctified Brother yourself
Amen to that. Dangerous Dan was a beast. Uncanny.
Gabe
Sorry if you hate to be addressed suchly
You seemed to be a Gabe
It sounded good in my head
You are spot on 100 percent, hands down thumbsup about dan toler
I agree
I WISH MUSIC WAS LIKE THIS AGAIN..
Latasha Atkins amen 🙏 to that
Dan T. Was hella good. Saw the Brothers in Virginia Beach in about 1986 and he and Dickey had some raging guitar battles. I think the place was called The Boat Shed or something like that, and they were loud as hell on top of it all.
Dangerous Dan Toler is amazing with that solo. Love how Betts steps out and gives Toler center stage. Then later Betts does his usual thing - just kicks ass.
Check out the Danny Toler grin just after 7:20 after he and Betts bend down the note together.....
@@josephvengen9989 Nice catch
We might be the same. I am catch stuff like that all the time but missed that one.
Good on ya mate!
Right!!
Toler sounds fantastic, but Betts is always doing what you won’t expect next - it’s why he’s up there with my absolute heroes on the guitar. Keep people guessing, it blows a more straightforward solo out of the water
One of the greatest rock songs ever written. Period.
especially when Zappa played it
This song wasn't written...it was born!
Give those amazing drummers some...damn!! Those bass drum licks are perfectly mesmerizing.
THE WHIPPING POST IS HELL!!!
😭😭😭
TIME IS UP THANK GOD!!!
🙌💙💙💙🙌
Dangerous Dan you completely fried our brains. Thank you
37 years later...still awe inspiring. THAT BASS LINE!
Who is the bassist? I don't recognize him.
@@moranpro David goldflies
@@Phantoharibo he was the worst bassist ABB had unfortunately. Style didn't fit qt all
That dude is working is ass off! Total opposite of a country bassist haha
@@unknownkingdom that is your opinion. I think he's one of the hardest working bassist I've seen live
One of my Favorite all time groups with one of my favorite songs. Thanks Duane and Gregg what GREAT Memories and Music !
The greatest band in American musical history.
The Allman Bros. Band was my first concert.
AbbyNormal777 what year?
Dangerous Dan Toler ! He is a beast on this version .
R.I.P. To a great guitar player, Mr. Dickey Betts (80 yrs old) He left us with some great music ! 🎸🙏🏼😎✌🏼💯✨🎶
Just absolutely sublime. Out of this world. I love this.
Dangerous Dan was a total Badass! what a player
Greg Allman, while he was alive, had Rock’s coolest voice…
there will never be another like richard betts
That shot at 2:05 is magical. Seeing a window into what he sees
Not a guitar fan. Started listening to this band and couldn't stop. Awesome.
Wish I could understand singer's words.
What's your first language?
Google them 😁
Dan Toler here made one of the greatest live solo ever.
I wonder how long it took him to remember and master that solo? Because that’s Duane’s. To be able to that live. SMH
RIP. Gregg Allman.
I bet it was great.I saw Boston years ago and they sounded just like the record.
Musicianship of the highest standard and soulful like nobody's business . Dan Toler brings the tears to my eyes
Outstanding, indeed!!
My god, what a good band. Was born a year after this recording, but I count myself lucky to have seen the more contemporary version of the band with Derek and Warren more times than I can remember. Miss Greg, Miss those shows. At least the former members are keeping it alive. TTB busted out Statesboro Blues at the end of the show last time I saw them in '19 and the place went ape shit.
Sobbing for another loss 😢😢
DDT just done tore it the F up!
Good tempo for this song and really good playing. Alot of negative comments from Know nothing musicians and bogus music critics. The original whipping post on fillmore east had an ass kicking tempo that shook the house. Dan And David Toler were with GA with the Gregg Allman Band from 1984- to 1989. They added alot to greggs career and were excellent players . Warren Haynes really was responsible for bringing back the orignal sound of the ABB with his amazing slide guitar work and soulful vocals. Nashville Tennesses Alan Woody played great bassguitar that added greatly to the 1990 lineup . Then came Government Mule and the rest was history. Dicky Betts and Warren Haynes were great together, unfortunately Dickys temperment and substance abuse issues really hurt his guitar chopsin the end.He is one of the greatest guitar players of our time and his talent effected so many muscians its amazing. He kept the ABB together after the loss of DA and BO so he did become the unofficial leader for many years. When I look at a gold Top Gibson, I think of Dicky Forrest Betts as a great guitar legend and founding Father of Southern Rock. His guitar influence spaned 45 years like LesPaul, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. He will always be a one of a kind player in spite of his personal Demons. Peace to you Dicky Betts.
And thats why he is called Dangerous Dan Toler! Holy fuck just amazing 👏
to think this was on a real early album..way ahead of its time
Two things: Dangerous Dan is fucking awesome. And, Dickey was magnanimous, stepping back to let guitar and bass jam a bit.
What a band. So many great guitarists played in it, cuz you have to be fucking awesome to be a Bro.
What a voice!!! Damn!
Ever notice way more people in college had mustaches in the 80s?
That's awesome.
Im stuck in the 80s born in 88 ♡
The Golden Gibson!
only 2.3 k thumbs up? come on. june 11, 2023
Rest In Peace Dickey.
Yes❤
R.I.P. Butch.......
So good!!
Poor Florida Kids ......Witnessing Musical History in the Making.....not aware of it.
A Band unmatched.
Man o Man, what I wouldnt give to party with one those high 80's college babes....
Phenomenal playing
My wedding song.
Barry Weinrich you need counseling
@@_antrider8584 Thank you My wife has a good sense of humor after all , she married me 20 years ago.
@@barryweinrich7289 This cracked me up. Hope it’s still going strong!
@@stevet7223 My wife has a sense of humor . She married me, and the ceremony was in Spanish . So, I'm not really sure if I'm married. But yes , we're still together
:)
Flawless!
Dans les Paul is really great sounding and his playing is insanely great
Dangerous Dan most underrated dude ever.
pureness!
RIP, Gregg
I randomly wanted to watch this clip again this morning because Dickey looks so handsome. I was shocked when I saw someone post rip. I thought it was a joke.
I just heard the news myself. Dickey was one of the greats.
They were in the pocket that day boy!!
Absolutely fucking bonkers!
Dickie Betts is one of the greatest. His style and writing is incomparable. If you don't know it, go back to school. Warren is an acomplished player also. No pissing contest.
The ultimate Duane Allman!!! RIP my guy
Dan Toler!
Dangerous Dan!
GRANDIOOS!!!!!
Even Gregg looks impressed
Yes! The only other time I’ve seen Gregg look impressed was when Derek trucks joined the brothers.
@@aaronbrooks3913 I was just going to comment on that... see 2:10 and 2:25 as Gregg is like Wholly F! What a player DDT!!
Amen allmans
Happy 77th Birhtday Johnny Lee Johnson Also known as Jaimoe Born July 8, 1944 Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Your drumming is historic..
Beside DDT going simply ape shit and tearing it the F up, he's also extremely color-coordinated with his cherry sunburst Les Paul, his reddish-brown shirt, brown hair, and dark sun-glasses.... I always though he oozed coolness.... 3:41. At 3:47, he pauses slightly and seems to be saying to himself ok...watch this...... masterful!
I just want to talk about how f****** shity UA-cam is, it decided at 7 minutes and 38 seconds that I needed to see a f****** add, instead of finishing this greatness, thanks a lot UA-cam did I mention you suck?
Damn I miss Gregg Allman
When you got Steve Irwin as your bass player.
Kred Nevalga 🤣🤣😂
David Goldflies is the bass player, looks like Steve Irwin
Crikey!
Nice Alembic...❤
❤🎉
To me it was never the same without Duane but no denying this is awesome
dude was a prodigy cut down in his prime.... who knows what could have become...
Fuckin awesome
Still with Gregg ❣️
RIP/DICKEY!
02:24 Greg Allman: da heck is he doing?? what do you think Skydog?
Theres just cant be as such thing as dyin,
:)
No One could cover these songs and sound like Gregg
Definitely not Gregg's best vocal performance that's for sure.
Duane Gibbons I thought the same thing.
Are they in rock in roll hall of fame
Not just great music but guitar porn too... gibson Les Paul tobacco burst and a Les Paul gold top and an alembic bass 😎 hot dang!
Who is the bass player?
David Goldflies
Music By Tambo thanks
Prince of Dixie
2:25 goddamit
I wonder if they sped it up on purpose.
BETTS ,,AAAH !
I wish I could go back in time and give Goldflies a Fender bass instead of that Alembic. It was totally wronrg sound for that band!
10 4
Actually doesn’t sound bad in this performance.
It’s how you tweak the sound and strings than the bass itself usually.
Dickie looks like Dennis Weaver on McCloud LOL
The Allman brothers didnt get enough credit in my opinion. Especially Duane. He was master on guitar. !!! Not right to leave him out!!!!
Who is the other guy playing guitar in this video
Douglas Coble First solo is Dan Toler, second solo is Dickey Betts on guitar.
