That’s my Artisan Mobile recording truck behind stage right, recording this Allman Brothers performance to a pair of 24 track recorders on 2” tape, as was the custom. This show is on UA-cam elsewhere and I’m just seeing this version - only days after a sad farewell to Dickey Betts - for the first time since that lovely winter afternoon. I think I’m liking the sound of this ‘official’ version better. It sounds like a completely different, and better, remix, perhaps even the one used for the RCA LaserDisc that was made. It is definitely a much better video cut, and the crowd mics I recorded are featured as they should be. I’m thrilled to be taking this trip down memory lane 42 years after that beautiful Gainesville, Florida day.
Cool ❤😊
Thanks
Yeah sounds excellent man
Can anyone please tell me the exact date of this wonderful concert at the University of Florida? Discogs says: Recorded in Gainsville FL, University of Florida 10-26-1980. This UA-cam video: 5/14/1982. But the “full” concert on UA-cam (not all songs are on the official DVD Brothers Of The Road) dates back to 1/16/1982, ua-cam.com/play/PL_XT7NkpsoDQ7-fEInElD4D383eteu-DP.html. And another strange thing: why is one of the best Dickey Betts concerts presented on the official DVD without obvious high points like Ramblin' Man, One Way Out, Southbound? If it were up to me, I would officially release on all physical media (LP, CD, DVD, etc.) this FULL (!!!) concert at the University of Florida with a dedication to Dickie Betts.

I’m drunk. It’s 20:57PM PST, 6/30, 2024, in Newport Beach, California. I’m watching Dickey absolutely rip it up. FUCK. I was born in the wrong time. Thank god for Dickey and the Allman Brothers. They are timeless. Perfect actually. Sending love to you all 🙏🏽❤️
I saw dickey and great southern at the coach house in 2014, 10 years ago seems like yesterday.
RIP Toler Brothers, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman and all the other ABB that have left us. You all were one of a kind.
RIP Dickey Betts thanks for the music!
I was at this show as a student at University of Florida in '82. Free show at the Bandshell as always...
Those days were great. The colleges paid for the artists to perform for the students.
Greatest Southern rock, live concert and improvisational band of all time. Live at Fillmore East in '71 best ever.
Dicky doesn't need to hide behind distortion or a bunch of phony effects. You hear every note and his skill is incredible.
You are correct about his guitar sound. A very clear tone with enough overdrive to give him the sustain if he wanted it, but an almost unfashionably clean sound. Lots of top end and presence rolled off, a sweet tone that demands a superior player.
You got that right brother he was one of the best of not the best
@@glennallen1580 Dickey was a very impressive man, soft spoken but sure of himself. I like that combination and found him a great critic and collaborator.
Welcome to the Dickie Betts Talent Show! Incredible feel for the guitar, great country voice and nice little leg-body-clapping as well. Living Legend
It's too bad Dickey wasn't as GREAT of a Human being as Skydog. Duane would NEVER hurt a woman or a child. Dickey is an ANIMAL!
who did he hurt ?
Best thing about Corona, catching up on freakin amazing shows like this!
Yes i a MUSIC maker corona is wrecking ME a illegal non conplient staff is getting away with NOT following CDC guidelines its in country side LA grange briarplace nursing 68hun joilet rd don't go there my friends say thay called state no body came that i saw WHO cares about us i no MORE and more people will call
Tight performance. Great show. Beautiful day. Great audience. Everyone looked great. RIP Dickey Betts and all those that passed from the Allman Brothers.
Whatever they say about Dickey, he can certainly play the guitar.
What'd they say?
@@billydeewilliams9104 A fairly difficult personality.
@@billydeewilliams9104 I was gonna ask the same question then I seen he posted it 5yrs ago. So I go to the replies and your the only one asking the same question 6mo ago and sure enough he answered lol👍✌
@@allanbriggs807 hey good job of stating such intrigue over a "fairly difficult personality"....I mean shucks, either you're just being nice and putting it mildly or the guy is just an absolute f****** a******.
Well, so much for all that talent and music and legacy that appears to override what you find I guess is most important and I'm forced to agree, to hell with this s***, I'm going to start listening to all that ghetto rap truth that's out there now, because there's just something missing in my life like trap Queen's and violent degeneracy and dysfunctionality and stuff....yuh KNOw?
And write music and songs!
Dan Toler was one awesome guitarist!!
Yes he his!! He was on it great!!
Dangerous!!!
The most underrated Allman Brothers guitarist but not in our book.
Insanely amazing music. Blasting full force with eloquence and grace. The Allman Brothers.
was lucky to have seen them in 79 and 80 for the comeback tour. mindblowing.
They were the band, everything is flawless,i it's Nice to go back to the old days, they were bad to the bone. They were the band to see and jam out to.May they rock in heaven.God bless the brothers.
Dickey Betts beauty shines in this concert. He and Toler are so in sync in their guitar duets. God bless Dickey Betts forever!
Happy birthday dickey have loved your playing for years God bless.
I have been a fan since the Fillmore east days. RIP DICKIE BETTS.
Good clean guitar ! And perfectly filmed in the light of day. Nothin to hide!
Dickey’s guitar tone is pure gold.
RIP. Mr. Betts. I had this on vhs and wore it out great memories.
RIP the original, the only Allman Brothers
RIP DICKIE. THANKS FOR THE BEAUTIFUL LEGACY.😊
One other note this stands right up there with the fillmore show.
I can’t believe this good this is. They were always incredible in any format, of course. But I admit I had no idea they were THAT good at this time. There was more of a gruff roughness with the classic lineup with Greg and Barry, which is part of why that version of the band was one of the greatest. This is different, but no less great. I can’t believe how polished they sound, while still retaining the Allman “thing”.
mr betts coolest guitarist in rock, and the coolest tache !!
This band makes the smoke come out of my phone. Jeez what a performance
Definetely worth a watch.
Mortality sucks as you see it coming and there is nothing you can do about it. You wake up one day realize your one of the Ole timers you spoke of in youth. RIP BROTHERS AND SISTERS.
I'm here to say goodbye to Mr Betts! I've seen you guys so many times high and I wish I was sober so I could remember the music clearly
I'M ONLY A day LATE AND 37 YEARS but here I am !!! posted on 5-15-2019

@@kevinmcnamara2082 He was "Dangerous"!
This is a great line up. This is the best I ever heard them sound.
I keep watching this performance over and over.
Shine on Dickey 💖💫
There Will Never Be Another Dickey Betts Either. G.O.A.T. R.I.P. Gregg. Thank You .
Betts was bringing it on this day !
Pinch of Copenhagen, cold beer! Sunny day, Allmon Bros
Love these guys, grew up listening to thier one of a kind southern rock. God bless them all, be in my heart as long as I'm alive. God bless the south.
I'm thrilled to see this. Untill today I've only seen bits and pieces. This is wonderful. Living in sw Florida I've been blessed by meering 32:40 32:42 Danny, Frankie, Greg and Dickey. Greg jammed with us one night. What a treat.
im a little late to the party with how good betts was. he makes it look so easy. supremely good guitar player.
Good god they are so good
born 62, hate watching music die..
Musicians, terribly sadly, are dying. They can’t live forever. But, I would argue music never, ever dies. Many special people have given their lives to the art with that ideas firmly in mind. Leaving a legacy, performing the very best they possibly can, and maybe most important, putting a lot of themselves in the songs they write. You can rest assured Dickey’s influence will outlast both of us. He was a very special guitar player. You might not see it, but he was deadly serious about every gig. His mind was a busy place, and a veery successful place as well. I worked with him again 15 years later and the very same man came to play. No partying, no congrats, he was a bit mysterious and I admire him more every day.
Whats up with boomers thinking they invented the world
Thanks for bringing
memories like this back .....
10:15 on a Monday night and this whole video is like maaaan I will never hear a band like this in my lifetime every again
That motel jam at 42:00 is the best. Dickie was such a natural musician. The other guitarist was great too on that. So much joy.
Essa banda é muito boa 😂
A friend of mine who passed away had this on VHS. I've been looking everywhere for it. Thanks for the post!
Both Clapton and Duane asserted Dickie the best. No lie.
@@yvonnelaurenty6427 I say that to everybody, but only that Duane is on record saying it multiple times. I didn't know Clapton felt the same. Good to hear, Dickie never gets mentioned with the giants yet just about everyone I know who knows music thinks he is. 👍✌
Dickey and Butch kept em going. Nice one. Thanks. :))
Back when concerts were not corporate and the police left us alone.
Excelente banda que pena que ya no estén algunos de ellos. Descansen en paz.
I had this on video years ago man! Hell ya! I love Gainesville.
Sickest version of Whipping Post I ever heard.
Bold statement. Until u hear another one lol.👍 Toler's first solo is a top notch shredder tho lol 🤯
So GOOD, blows me away
*Video Speed Controller FTW!* I dropped the playback speed to 90%. Now it sounds like I expect they would in concert.
Dicky has always brought it on... Never seen othwewise. I can say the same of all members never seen anyone in this band fail to deliver even Greg (RIP) back in the day when he was out of sorts he delivered no matter how he got on that stage.
You or I might not have witnessed it, but I believe its pretty well documented by the man himself that Gregg blew quite a few shows lol.✌
I'm Captain obvious, Absolutely a killer Band, WOW FREAKING WEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
amazing!!!!
Florida , I ❤ You !!! And the Allman Bros so or so - great on their Paulas ( awesome GoldTop ) !! Missin that times as well 🤘👏🥰🤞🍀♾️
Wow 42 years later
Listen to Greg playing "come and go blues" at 49:20... amazing acoustic guitar playing!
Sounds magical!
Take five guys ….. nah, I’ll just let the magic happen
One of the greatest live performances of all time
By Far No it Aint,, 80s Sucked..yea some good Jams but over all 80s Sucked
And i was right up front for this one in G’ville
Fantastic!
Thanks for upload :D I love them and thire musics ;)
Only God knows if he can create another Dicky Betts and all of the talent on that stage!
I love seeing that tag on this post showing Dickie off stage just hanging out with Danny Toler and the guys enjoying themselves. Betts singing is laid back and wonderful. He tells how he and Berry did so before Gregg joined them, saying the band needed a real singer. But there was no one who could do Blue Sky or Ramblin' Man better; Duane called on him to sing Blue Sky, saying it was Dickie's song, after all. Actually can'5imagine Gregg doing Ramblin' Man any better, which was also Betts' composition.
This post gives you a deeper insight into the convivial and somewhat shy side of Betts' personality. He was known for his temper (even at 73, he told Dan Rather he was still working to get a handle on it
), but he mostly was very much the gentleman, as we can see from lots and lots of posts, and one can't miss how cordial and encouraging he is to fellow musicians on stage. I'll never stop admiring his all-around greatness.
@@yvonnelaurenty6427 here u r again Miss Yvonne, dishing out more praise to the man, u the best for that lol
@@yvonnelaurenty6427 and u r so spot on about his graciousness towards other musicians. Like it literally can't be missed if u know what u r looking at. 👍
Dickey earned every word that describes him, INCLUDING he is FOREVER a ABB Family Member for life.......F all the rest..........Gregg & Duane would ! NUFF SAID
so. nice
Thank you for Jessica, Dicky! rip😢
The master of the pentatonic major 👉 Dickey Boy Betts

R.I.P. Gregg
Sorry hazor777, gotta call bullshit on Ya. Playing tight as shit, Greg's voice is strong, and they fucking JAM.
Best performance in the entire video is the final 6 minutes of the video (not the concert).
I was in Pensacola at this time had no idea they were so close !
I love Dan @10:32 that first lick he did is so outside the box. And his tone is 🔥 🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’ve been searching UA-cam far and wide but can’t find a better concert but can’t find one. Reply with some other sick full concert vids!

What's the last song Gregg did solo?
Commenting to find out

At one time the Marshall Tucker Band was the very best hands down.
Maybe when the Allmans were on a break...
Good Nite Dickey!
42:12 what song?
Rules
Oooooh, love the resonator intro!!! :D
See everyone at the beginning and everybody getting along and no problems and no rolling waves of congoidals snatching gold chains off of people's necks.
