Your 3 part series gave me the confidence to tackle this job. I followed your procedure and found that every step was clear and to the point. When I did the final rotation back to true TDC, All 4 timing marks were perfectly centered in the alignment grooves. Started right up. I would recommend to anyone to pick up a 'slim' 27mm wrench to rock the camshafts.
Just coming in here after using your set of videos for my S62 guide job to say a huge THANK YOU!!!! your ideas to paint mark snd match the splined gears to the hubs was an epic help for me. Really truly appreciate the time spent on these vids very very helpful as a secondary check along with M5Board and the TIS.
Kudos for documenting this. Did a job that required re-timing my S62. Is a bit nerve racking the first-time you do it, but once you begin to understand the principles of how the S62 is set up and engineered, it’s not really that bad at all.
@@YEVSBUILDS Hello! Im in toughts of buying a e39 v8/M5 in the future. Your tutorial is great but im unsure if it could be done in a home garage. I havent done any job as big as chain or head pulling. Is this a ok car to learn on?
@@Gripengamer You can definitely do this at home. Is it ok to learn on? I mean yes if you take your time to do everything properly but don't risk it if you're unsure of what you're doing because engine parts for this thing are spendy.
Great video man, I picked up a 2002 M5 8 months ago. It has 258k miles and I’m thinking about selling it because I don’t want to do those types of jobs.
Ive just done this procedure, the grooves on cams dont line up 100% at the end procedure. You can see them but they dont line up 100%. Would this affect timing or is thos expected? Would appreciate the help
Well mine didn't line up 100% either and from what I know, that's fine, as long as majority of those lines are visible and they're not completely away from the ridge.
Hi. Can Yu explain me why my s62 after make exacly same adjustment like’a Yu on the movie now have all exhaust valves band and is again out of timing?? I make exacly same step by step like’a Yu…. And before try start engine al was Ok. But when build up oil pressure change vanos positions and make out of timing and colosion! Before crank engine i rotate him, and crank without plugs for build up oil pressurre etc…. And then start make a knocking sound and band valves. How Yu explain this?
I've ran into this same exact issue with a clients' car. if the solenoids are bad, they don't tell the ecu to adjust the cams based on oil pressure - it reads oil pressure wrong. a lot of times if the solenoids get air bubbles in the system, they'll start to give codes and will throw timing off. I recommended to replace the solenoids with new ones (NOT refurbished) and the problem was fixed.

Exactly. Definitely not as bad as it may sound.

Just enjoyed watching all 3 parts of the s62 Guide job. Great work you defiantly gave me confidence to tackle this myself.
Glad my work can help others! Good luck!
Thanks again! When you finished installing your vanos, were the exhaust side helical gears sticking out more in comparison to the middle two?

If you decide to keep it, it's not all too bad. Just gotta be careful.
@@YEVSBUILDS Man if I ever have to dive into it I’ll be hitting you up with questions.
You made the impossible look possible 🎉😅
Hahah happy to help!
Amaising absolutely ! 👍 alarming beginning - joyful end
Haha love you!
When you started the car. How long did it knock for. Until the oil pressure was at par?
For like 3 minutes and then I gave it a few revs and it went away almost right away.

I don't think I'll be attempting this on my M5, it took me 2 hours to replace the windcreen wipers!.

For those of us that would like to replace the 2 chains that you skipped, how difficult is that?
