    I like to see you people rebuilding v engines like this, especially BMW and Merc brands.. if you are in Malaysia you need to be really, really rich to do it yourself.. the price of spare parts alone has reached thousands of Malaysian ringgit for such a small thing..

    I installed the vanos gears today and i found a method which is 5 times quicker and easier than bmw stupid insteuctions..you install the intake gear on its own..put chain on it...then you easily slide the exhaust one on the position with the special tool at 45 degrees...once the screw alligns with the whole you are done..took me 2 hours of trying bmw way..and 5 minutes installing them separate

      Well, I'm just not sure where you live so if I were you, I'd call your local machine shops that work with engine blocks and ask if they do the alusil coating. That's what I did

    I just got my S85B50 vanos actuators serviced. However the shop didn’t tighten the only screw fastening the caps on the vanos actuator cylinders. I tried to ask them for the torque needed to secure the screws but they wouldn’t tell me. How much is that toque to secure the only screw on top of the caps of the vanos actuator units?

    dude before you tight the gears you have to tight the chain guard an the chain tensioner!! after that the timing sits correct as they sould.....

    Mate..you are streaming in my garage all day as i do my engine..looking in TIS i discovered something..if you look at "replacing oil pump" it tells you that you need to meassure the tensioner play(72.8 to 80)...but if you look st "replacing high pressure oil pump" it clearly says that if your vanos pump is 12/05+ you do not need to meassure the chain and that you must not use shims..not sure what to believe as it sound like a contradiction

    • @YEVSBUILDS
      @YEVSBUILDS  2 роки тому

      Appreciate you hahaI mean if it says you don't need to measure the chain if yours is 12/05 then I guess you don't but I like to make sure. It's not wrong to know haha.

    To, I saw u lubricate with 5w-50, not 10W-60?
    Don’t tell me u use engine oil of 5w-50 as well?

    • @YEVSBUILDS
      @YEVSBUILDS  3 роки тому

      For the E46 I use 5w-50. For the V10, I'll most likely stick to 10w-60. Why? You wouldn't recommend?

    Can you move vanos unit pistons back and forth easily?
    Because my stuck for exhaust for both sides and I don’t know if that’s how it’s supposed to be 🤷🏻‍♂️ Before I took engine out I had codes for Vanos oil pressure and all solenoids

    • @YEVSBUILDS
      @YEVSBUILDS  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah mine move freely. I'm honestly not 100% sure if they're supposed to move freely, but I'm pretty sure.

      Hi, i am now working on an m6 s85 and my vanos gears are also stuck on the exhaust side
      Have you figured out if thar was normal? When I was assembling the front cover with the solenoids i heard a crack. Then found out it was the timing tool locking on the camshaft broke. Too much force from the vanos gear.
      Any suggestion?

    Hello Y.E.V.S BUILDS,
    I just found your S85 build series and all I can say is WOW, FANTASTIC. Great detail on all the critical items for this engine.
    I do have one question on this video. When you installed the VANOS bolts to cams, it did not appear that you had installed the timing chain tensioners before torquing the bolts. Did you apply pressure to the crank pulley to get tension on the chains? If not, it is my belief that the final timing could be off due to possible chain slack.
    Okay, one more question: What is the bolt head size on your old and new VANOS to cam bolts? I swear mine are 17.5mm and it is very difficult to find. For disassembly, I had to pound on an 11/16" socket, but this is a No-Go for assembly. 18mm was far too loose to remove (even 6pt socket tried to round the corners) and these are high torque fasteners.
    Cheers,
    Mr. P

      Appreciate you so much!
      I did everything in order the way the BMW TIS said to do. So the chain tensioner was in the order that BMW instructions said it to be.
      The new central bolts for me were 18mm and the sockets fit perfectly. Haha I'm not sure what sort of witch craft you had in there haha

      Thank you for the reply. I am building two S85's bolt-to-bolt. Your should feel very lucky that you did not have any damaged bores on your S85. Both of my engines were scored so bad I have had to sleeve them. In the long-term will be better....I hope.
      PS: Get your fuel injectors serviced or replaced. My theory on the bad bores for S65/85 engines is leaking injector resulting in hydro-lock and bending the rods. From there, the bent rod keeps working in engine and results in MAJOR bore scoring!
      Look at S85 blocks on Ebay. Most will show bad bores.
      Cheers,
      Mr .P
