2:27 How to do intermittent fasting
In this video, I want to share with you the power of intermittent fasting and how to do intermittent fasting for weight loss. Intermittent fasting is a tool. It’s not a diet, it doesn’t tell you what to eat, and it’s not about cutting calories. It’s a pattern of eating and not eating. It’s changing when you eat and when you don’t eat.
Intermittent fasting is one of the most important factors when it comes to weight loss. It influences two main hormones in the body:
    1. Stimulates growth hormone (anti-aging and fat burning)
    2. Decreases insulin (in the presence of insulin you can’t lose weight)
Intermittent fasting can help heal insulin resistance. This is a situation where the pancreas is pumping out way more insulin than you need. This can be a very destructive condition.
With intermittent fasting, it’s best to start slow and gradually fast for longer lengths of time. For example, if you consume 5 or 6 meals a day, you may want to start by doing 3 meals a day and cutting out snacks. After that, you may want to do a pattern of 16 hours of fasting with an 8-hour eating window. It’s ideal to go at least 4 hours after you wake up before your first meal. The real power of intermittent fasting happens at night while you’re sleeping and in the morning.
To take it to the next level, you would want to gradually go to two meals per day. You would do 20 hours of fasting with a four-hour eating window. But, it will take time to do this.

Nope, working out in a fasted state is where you see the best benefits. My suggestion is to just take your time. I didn't wake up and just so all of that. I started with the diet, then added the gym and finally the IF. Each of those steps was also tiered. Make one change at a time and listen to your body.

I can testify to this. I do two meals over a 6 hour period and I have lost 57 lbs. I'm almost never hungry. I sometimes forget to eat my second meal. I don't count calories, I eat pretty much what I want. I did count my calories one day. I had a 1020-calorie breakfast and a 700-calorie dinner and I burned about 400 calories on my daily bike ride. That's a total of about 1300 calories for the day and I can't describe the feeling of bliss that I feel after 18 hours of fasting, like I am totally content and won't ever need to eat again.
I started fasting because I was having a lot of issues with heartburn and a sour stomach. I didn't know about the weight loss part of it until I watched one of your videos. By the way, the heartburn and stomach issues cleared up that first night that I didn't eat dinner and they've not come back. I was insulin resistant before. I'd eat 3 to 4 thousand calories a day, always hungry and craving junk. I had a huge belly and felt terrible. My cravings for carbs have gone. I eat way more meat and vegetables now. some Fruit and some bread but not like before. My typical breakfast is huevos rancheros with bacon and greek yogurt. my dinner is usually a small piece of grilled chicken, pork, beef, or fish and a large salad with lots of bell peppers mushrooms and other vegetables and a bowl of berries with cream. I don't eat between meals and I drink water or unsweetened tea. I been riding my bicycle 7 miles a day and I'm getting ready to ramp that up to 10 for a bit and then 15 to 20 as I get my fitness back after having not done much riding during the winter. Just riding 7 miles a day has really got the weight coming off now. I hope to be at my goal of 108 lbs. lost by June. I started at 268 lbs. and I'll finish at 160. I know I'll eat like this the rest of my life. I wish I would have know this in my 20's. Thank you for all the videos. I've recommended this to many people but I think they can't get over the idea that they will be super hungry if they try it.
I like to ride my bike in the morning when I've been fasting since 2 pm. the day before and to my utter surprise I can do it just fine. I don't even feel hungry at the end of my ride. That's because my body switches to burning fat easily now. I never "hit the wall" anymore.

Years ago I started depression eating. Lost a child, went through a divorce. I went from my normal weight of about 200 lbs up to 360 lbs in about a year. Then after a few years, started therapy, started healing emotionally. I started reading a lot about losing weight, and instead of the normal 3 large meals with snacks in between, I started a system where I would only eat between 8am and 6pm, every 2 hours only handful sized portions 6 times per day, less than 1000 calories per day, higher protein, lower carbs. And did a 5 day water fast every month. Moderate cardio and strength exercises every morning except weekends. I went from 260 back to 200 in just under 6 months. Has been my routine for several years now, and my weight only fluctuates between 200-220, which is ideal for my height and build.

Instead of keto, I would try the Mediterranean diet (one of the things it does is subs high glycemic index carbs like bread (any bread, even multigrain or dark-colored), white pasta, potatoes, and white rice with whole grains (whole grain pasta, quinoa, barley) and sweet potatoes; these are more healthy as they have more fiber and this slows down digestion and therefore dumping of sugar into the bloodstream, so you don't get as hungry right away. Add fat like butter to these carbs or olive oil for more satiety and less desire for snacking. No snacking except for occasional fruit! It's easier to maintain and healthier in my opinion (I'm a medical practitioner). Good luck!

I'm 65 and same. Depending on main exercise type of running, swimming, or cycling in any given year, I'd fluctuate 168 to 178 lbs (muscle gain mostly). Could easily fast a week or more just to try it (nothing to do with diet advice videos that didn't exist but sometimes with a religious overtone). Smug? Read on...
Massive heart attack with 3 resuscitations in April 2020 was inherited pattern via maternal grandfather's line. That, despite all the tests gave me an all clear following younger brother's ha (he survived too).
Having studied biochemistry at university, I knew of the genetic aspect so knocked back folk who praised my exercise and eating patterns. Fact is, my base level of health, fitness, and faith delayed the ha by up to 10 years, enormously enhanced my ability to remain calm during the ha, and kept me alive in ambulance and at cardio unit. Frustrating last 10 months as supposed to do low level (for me) exercise while heart regains strength. JustJess I started IF in February. Not including any Keto within my fasting. I did lower my sugar intake though. I stopped drinking alcohol in Jan. I believe that helped drastically in my wright loss. I'm down to 280 now and doing 19:5 daily. My diet consist of lots of salad to break my fast. My salads are amazing. I make amazing salads! LOL! Lots of Oranges and fresh fruit. I exercise as far as stretching and Cardio currently. I do about 9-11K steps a day from having active kids and my business. The inches I have lost are the most mind-blowing thing. Note to everyone: wear your nice clothes asap. They won't be wearable in a short amount of time. The clarity that comes with it is worth the journey.

    • @AyindesSeacret
      @AyindesSeacret 6 років тому +9

Marie Silva Howdy Marie! In my 6 hour window (Soon to be 5 hour since I've changed to a 19:5 window) I eat 2X's. My 1st meal consist of as many Oranges (cutties too) as I can eat, then Lots of Greens. I go for the 7 to 10 cups like Dr. Berg says with lots of fixings. Sometimes I don't eat that until 20 or 21 hours. Those days feel amazing. That 20 hour mark is magical. It's obvious why the experts say that now.
And for my 2nd meal, I usually have what I cook for everyone else. Just less of it. You need less food because of IF. Cut down on the carbs if possible but you don't really have to from my experience. You'll still lose weight and inches from the internal changes.
I have to increase my exercise rate. I'm down to 280 with not much exercise. Adding HIIT more frequently would have me in the 260 range fa sure! Hope that helped.

Aisha Shaikh so I did mine a little different. I worked at 6am. So I started eating at noon. I stopped at 8pm. Water water water... in between. And for my morning pick me up I had a sugar free monster. For the first month I had a cheat day once a week. The second month twice a month and then I kind of kept that for the next 6 months. I waited until I saw the plateau started. Then I did a little different I did an 18:6 so that I had the ability to get to that 20:4. My meals were very simple. Whatever I wanted, lol. Whatever I wanted to eat in that 8 hours, I did. If I wanted 6 small meals, sure, 2 medium meals absolutely. And sure I had some awesome meals days where I cooked and like did the healthy thing and then I had the 3 slices of pizza meals. When I got to the 6 hour window that was rough really rough because I was so used to eating for 8. I only go to the gym once a week. 10 minutes of hardcore cardio warm up 30 minutes of lifting and core training and a 10 minute medium level cardio cool down, then 45 minutes of a relaxing swim. I saw my energy triple quickly. Apparently I only require 4 hours of sleep. It’s insane! Now I’m on the 20:4... I’m rarely hungry. Sometimes my alarm will go off to tell me it’s time and I’ll just click it and forget. But I do eat two meals in that 4 hour window, they are just very small and very close together, because my body just doesn’t require what it did before. A lot of peanut butter, the natural kind. That has always helped the hunger in the beginning and now the sugar drop I experience.

Also now for cheat days I have those once to twice a week, because I’m far more active than I was before, so I’m constantly on the go, because I can’t sit for very long, it drives me crazy. A lot of things I have missed out on have come my way. And the fact that I didn’t have to have a weight loss surgery to aid me in this journey is 100% the biggest blessing this video could have ever done. I wish this was around when I was a teenager... but it’s cool I’m 35 but do not look it. Lol. I’ll take it. I’ll post a pic to help.

@@ayanwaleopeyemi1406 lowering your carb intake to the minimum you need. This is different for every person and lifestyle, but is usually in the 50 - 75 grams a day range. If you want to lose weight, you don't need to go that low, but sub-100 is very effective when combined with other methods of weight loss.
The principle behind keto is that fat is king, and insulin is evil (not completely evil, turns out it does a LOT of important things) so if you eat fat for energy, 2 things happen, your liver fires up fat burning enzymes, and your insulin levels drop and level out. Well, if you exercise more calories than you eat, the enzymes will take it from your fat cells. And since your insulin is low, and few carbs are present, your body will not make more fat.
BUT keto affects everyone differently, and it has one large drawback. It is a lifestyle change. ie, permanent.
I have done this and lost 60 pounds, but the rebound if you go back on carbs is INSANE. This is what Dr Berg is talking about when he says you can't lose weight with insulin running the show. It is EXTREMELY effective at replacing fat.

I feel that way now, Scott. I've lost hundreds of pounds in my life, normally in chunks of 100+ at a time, only to gain it all back. Diet and exercise super hard, and after a year or so I give up and go back to my old ways because it's so difficult. Started Keto in Feb and I went from 370 to 305 lbs as of today. Still got a ways to go, but I'm never hungry. I do 16/8 as its really easy and manageable. I'm never hungry, and I'm really diggin it as far as a diet goes. Hopefully I can keep the pounds off this time. Wish you luck buddy!

I am 53 years old and have always been active but could never figure out the perfect diet and exercise combo to get me that elusive GQ athletic physique. Intermittent fasting has absolutely been the final piece to the puzzle. I started keto and IF about a year ago with the advice I received from Dr Berg's YT videos. I have now been on the 20:4 schedule for the past 4 months and have finally leaned off the last 5 lbs needed to properly bring out my chest and abs. If you've done years of training and dieting only to continually be frustrated by your results you've got to give this a go. I started by simply giving up bread and sugar for the 1st month and slowly progressed from there. I now only need to work out half as much and still maintain the look I desire. My greatest satisfaction is in helping others achieve similar results. If you stay the course you will be rewarded. Feeling Minnesota at 6'3" 180lbs. Thanks Dr Berg!

I'm fine tuning my diet with your advice to be even more effective, 30 more lbs to loose. I'm 52, was recently talking to some guys in my age group. One brought up the fact that he missed how well he felt in his 30's and wished he felt that way again. Went around the group with everyone saying the same thing until me, I feel much better than I did in my 30's. I don't have chronic pain or problems and am more active with 0 medications now. Terrible to have wasted that part of my life, but wonderful that I found a solution and made changes before it's too late. micho riso your name lol my sausage. When I worked my first restaurant job; one of the cooks said if I wanted food; I had to go ask hector for the mi chorizo especial. Of course I didn't know what he was saying and I went back there and asked for it. Lmao.

I was around 224 pounds at 23 years old… I did intermittent fasting for a couple months and managed to drop down to about 182. Mixed it with a low calorie, high protein diet and moderate weight lifting. It works !

I enjoy your and will continue watching and learning. Thank you so much. You are truly a lifesaver. God bless you..

Thank you so much for your video. Scale has not moved for years no matter what I did. I’m 67 years old and started intermittent fasting 6 weeks ago. I’m now on 20-4 with no problem at all, have lost 13 lbs and still going. I’m no longer depressed, I sleep better and walking more. Only problem I have are the people in my life thinking I should eat lunch and snacks when they do.

I'm not a big eater, but for whatever reason, I pack on the pounds. So when the pandemic hit I started walking about 3 miles a day and eating less but really wasn't seeing much in the way of results. A few months into that I finally watched this video as my wife had suggested and to keep it short; I lost 50 pounds in about 120 days and more importantly have kept it off for over a year now. Good luck.

I get so frustrated with all these other jokers talking about it. They get a.d.d. And start going all over the map with their information. It's irritating! This video is by far the most intelligible.
