17:15 How intermittent fasting helps fix slow metabolism
20:24 Nine tips for improving your insulin sensitivity and metabolism
In this video, I want to talk about how to fix a broken metabolism. Now, this is an incredibly important topic, so pay attention closely and take notes.
    1. Dieting slows your metabolism. If you have dieted for many years, chances are, your metabolism is very slow.
    2. Dieting increases your hunger and cravings. In turn, many people who go on diets end up gaining the weight right back.
    3. Age slows down your metabolism.
    4. Exercise increases your hunger and cravings.
    5. It’s unnatural to lose weight. If you think about it, your body’s goal is to store energy for when it really needs it-like a time of famine or starvation. Weight gain is a survival mechanism.
There’s a certain point that your body likes to settle at as far as your weight. I like to call this the “set point.” Your set point is the range where it becomes difficult to either lose weight or even gain weight. I want to show you how to lower your set point. Let’s say your set point is around 182, and you want to lower it to 142. The goal is to drop the set point.
First, there is one primary thing that ruins your metabolism’s set point: high insulin. In the presence of insulin, it is impossible to lose weight and drop your set point. Insulin promotes fat storage and prevents fat loss. Sugar and carbohydrates trigger insulin. Over years of a high-carb and high-sugar diet, your cells become resistant to insulin, which leads to more insulin production to try to compensate.
To get insulin resistance under control, you have to limit:
    • Sugar/carbs
    • Protein
    • Gastrointestinal hormones
    • Estrogen
To fix your metabolism, consume foods low on the glycemic index. High-fat foods are fantastic for fighting insulin resistance and metabolism problems. Avoid low-fat foods.
Intermittent fasting helps avoid insulin spikes, which reduces insulin resistance and improves metabolism. Only have 1-3 meals a day and skip breakfast whenever possible.
More tips for fixing your metabolism:
    1. Apple cider vinegar
    2. Fermented foods
    3. High potassium foods
    4. Vitamin B1
    5. Fiber
    6. Fat
    7. Lower cortisol and estrogen
    8. Sleep and exercise
    9. Consume plenty of low-carb vegetables

My wife was diagnosed 5 weeks ago with T2D. Went keto with cruciferous veggies along with intermittent fasting, ACV and walks after meals. Zero sugars and carbs, besides the veggies.. Her blood sugar went from 300 to cruising around 90-120. I've lost 15 lbs and she's lost 12 lbs. Aches and pains are gone, tremendous mental clarity (she's doing math in her head, never could before!), tons of energy, skin is clear, ankles aren't swollen and waking up bright-eyed. Thank you doctor for the easily understood science and am excited for check up in December! This works!

I found this channel by pure accident last thursday. I was 337lb, with lots of health issues, highly hypocondriac, could not bear to hear anyting about the body or body functions without feeling physically bad and anxious. Still, for the first time in my life I was interested to hear, everything makes full sense, Dr. Berg's description of the pancreas body type fits unbelievably well with all my ills and the theory behind it all, what was wrong with me, how all my previous efforts failed, made perfect sense. I started watching one video after another.... Well, I started doing intermittent fasting (18/6, 2 meals a day) and planning my keto shoplist last since friday. Now is tuesday and I'm already 328lb, so it's a 9lb loss for starters. I know it's a LONG, LONG way to go, but I''m excited and it has been actually much easier than previous attempts at dieting. I will carry on, learn more and do more. Wish me luck.

@@maplesden6768 Thanks!! Today I weighted 316lb, so it's 21lb in little more than two weeks; I'm still perfecting and adjusting diet, but have totally cut sugars and flours, and I can do the 16/8 IF window pretty effortless. For those who are wondering if they should do this, I can say that my energy levels have already gone sky-high (people seem to think of an obese guy full of energy as odd, but I'm happy nevertheless), and hunger has not gone completely yet, but drastically reduced. IF is not hard at all and the benefits are quick to perceive!

Dr you just saved my life! I was killing myself and had no idea I was. I'm 32 been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2007 amd never was explained exactly what it was. I was just put on pills that I hated taking. In February my right quadriceps tendon broke my kneecap in half while I was just WALKING and my quadriceps muscle on my left knee tore completely off. I didnt do anything for that to happen. My muscles ache, my left big toe is stiff and my right middle finger is bent. I contemplated suicide because I was suffering so much pain and my body was falling apart. To add insult to injury I have a hemmorage in my left eye, found out my vitamin d level was 8 (dangerously low) and I was hospitalized for having low potassium. I felt like I was dying. While recovering from my knee surgeries I started researching on how to fix myself since my doctors are baffled on my condition and came across your videos. I started implementing what you suggest along with water fasting once a week and my fasting sugars are now under 120, my finger is straightening out, my big toe can bend now, my eye sight is improving and I feel sooooo good! All I can do is cry, Happy tears, because I have a 4 and a 5 year old and was thinking I may not live to see them graduate high school. Thank you so much for your videos! You are beyond awesome! I have been a health nut all my life, training with weights since age 15 (subbed for yoga for a few years, now back to weights) but I was getting FAT! I couldn't stand it. I ate "healthy" was contemplating adding more and more exercise (at 47 yrs old, was daunting), then tried IF and shed 25lbs. I also was getting prostatitis and was fearful it could turn into prostate cancer. I truly believe IF alleviated the condition. Thought my story was great until reading this from you. Again, please make a video, I believe there are many people that are pre-diabetic, and have no idea.
the healthcare industry just treats the symptoms and people are dying.

Najstefaniji ... Oh, do stop trolling...you'll just be more miserable if you don't. There's a reason every single religion on the planet teaches something akin to karma, also known as the Law of Sowing and Reaping. It's because that's how God made this world to work. Whatever you 'sow' into the lives of others, you will 'reap' in your own. You can either send things out that will come back to bless you or bite you in the backside. It's your choice.

The first time I tried Keto I failed because I didn't understand what it was about or how it was connected to my personal health concerns. But after discovering you doing a video about PCOS, I delved further into your videos and found your Keto videos. Since watching you, I now have the knowledge and understanding of what is going on inside of me and why things are the way they are. Not only that, but now I can start to actually fix and heal myself. I have zero doubt in my mind that this time I can actually do this. Thank you so much for giving your time to help others through your videos and knowledge. You're saving lives. I plan on reporting back here once the change is noticeable. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!!! ❤️

I will definitely follow your recommendations plus I will add Apple cider vinegar before meals. And lately I’ve been skipping breakfast and I only have two meals but I was snacking in between with non fat Greek yogurt with berries and that really raises my insulin so I am stopping that. Thank you again for this valuable information.

In fact, I lost 12 pds the first month and continued to do that until I balanced at around 205. I also walked, and I also found that mental clarity. Well, now I'm 51 years old, and I've been in diabetic remission for a solid year and a half. I run and weight train daily. I'm now more athletic than ever before in my life. For my 50th birthday month, I ran 300 km in a Canadian January winter. Ill also note I was never a runner before in my life.. It all spawned from the power of a proper way of living.

Fix your diet before getting into higher intensity exercise. You can’t fix a bad diet with exercise. Walk before your first meal, and last meal of the day. The weight literally falls off once your body starts fixing insulin resistance. Cut out processed sugars grains and crappy oils. I am 53 and haven’t felt this good in 25 years Joint pain is gone. A1c is now perfect. I was on cusp of getting the prediabetes dx. Dr. Berg may not be a fitness guru, but I respect his knowledge of nutrition and insulin.

KristinaMonte What the Doctor needs to know and understand that the only way to speed up the metabolism is by building more muscle mass by eating high protein+ low carb and lifting weights, muscle is living tissue and the cells are constantly feeding and consuming calories to stay alive, that is why bodybuilders can eat up to 5,000 calories a day and keep a low body fat, It's as simple as that, muscle eats the fat.

@@cutebot2635 For 3 months I did eat at 12 noon and then at 5pm...The only time I could not follow this was when I am not feeling well, then I had at 10, 2 and 7....Also observed that stopping milk consumption was the best thing...I don't feel bloated at all after I left milk...having lime juice once in 2 days helps as well..I like almost all vegetables..chicken/Lamb with fat..

Excellent discussion combining the threads of anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, nutrition and endocrinology to create a mosaic of understanding about insulin resistance and the metabolic problems it causes.....with some very good suggestions about what to do about it. Thank you Dr.Berg.....I really do like eating a few of your Nutritional Yeast tablets during my daily 16 hours of intermittent fasting.😇

I watch your videos like some sort of anatomy class. If I don’t get something fully I go back to the topic lol. But seriously- thank you for being you! No doctor in a coat has ever explained anything (not even acne) the way you explain stuff!
