Mine came the same way as well. I also found that the steering cord that came with the yak loved to bind against each other. It's a bit more involved, but I bought some bicycle brake hose and cables to replace the cord. It removed all of the binding and friction.

I almost went with the bicycle cables. I bet it works great.

My was backwards too, easy adjustment. But the cable itself was super stretchy, I replaced it with 30lbs coated metal braid, but even that was too stretchy. Going to 100lb

Thanks very much your review. I am looking into this Hoodoo kayak. What is your weight? My weight is 170. Can I stand up stably? Do you get water coming out of scuppers? Is the rudder system smooth and easy to use? Looking forward to your answers.

Thanks for your kind comments! I am 6'2" and weight 200lbs. I cannot stand up comfortably in the Temptest 120p gen2 (2023 model). It really isnt designed for stability as much as it is for speed and maneuverability. It will initially feel a bit unstable, but I have not flipped it and actually feel comfortable in it. I would compare it to a touring kayak, but more stable than that. It is pretty fast. I can cruise along at 4 mph (gps speed) for quite a while. it is great at trolling. I have not removed my scupper plugs, so I cannot comment on how much water comes through them. I would imagine that not much water would come up. The hull is very tall and the scupper holes are very long compared to other kayaks I have owned.
As for the steering, I had a few issues when i first got it that were fairly easy to fix. I replaced the stretchy string that was supplied with 1/16" vynil coated wire. I also had to swap the cables on the steering spindle because it was initially setup backwards. It steers great now and has a pretty tight turning radius.
The Tempest is a great kayak, but will need some tweaking before heading out on the water for the first time. You will need to shim the pedal drive clips and add some weather stripping to the pedal drive cover or it leaks pretty badly.
Ive had it out quite a few times and I really like how fast and smooth it glides through the water. I also filled the pedal drive unit compartments with gear lube and what a difference that made. It is so much smoother than when it was new.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

The tempest is not the most stable kayak. With your weight, I say you may be able to stand up. I'm 6'2" and am not comfortable standing at all. I would recommend the impulse if stability is a priority. I'm 200 lbs.

Did hoodoo run the rudder. If so they ran it wrong it should cross over passed the handle. Mine was done right got mine a year ago. I have some videos on both top and bottom mount rudder mods for better turning. Check it out and enjoy the tempest I love mine.

You have gen1. This issue is coming up on all of the gen2 tempests. I will check out your info, im not sure any applies to the gen2., but we will see.

@@keithfoco what did they change on gen 2s didn't even realize they had a difference. I'll have too look. 🍻

@@keithfoco I see they changed the front hatch and you get a top mount rudder. But the shape seems the same other than the molded in handles on the side. Does it still come with bottom rudder option too.

@@keithfoco how does it turn that new rudder design looks terribly inefficient turn radius.

@@covidisevent201 a lot. Totally different kayak body. A lot less stable than the gen1. Molded in cup holder, drop down rudder, different hatches, etc...I like the kayak a lot but it isn't as stable as hoodoo claimed. A lot of people are not liking the gen2 at all. I think it's fine because I've paddled wildly unstable kayaks before. If I ever get a really large fish or get stuck in rough water, I'm going over. You can't stand up in this one. I mean you can, but it is all over the place and unsettling. They changed the design for 2023. Gen2 started shipping in May. I was one of the first ones to get a gen2.

Hey thanks for this, the steering threw me off as well..
Was it hard to feed the line back into the steering handle compartment?

    • @keithfoco
      @keithfoco  2 роки тому +1

No, not at all. It's easily accessed through the hatch under the seat.

@@keithfoco I just got done with it.. wasn’t bad at all, the only problem I ran into was the tubing the line ran through near the steering handle, it would get pulled into the steering handle compartment, I twisted the tubing a couple times and it settled, doesn’t seem like the two lines rub either so I think we’re good on that.
Thanks again, without your video, I wouldn’t be brave enough to do it.. now on to the shims for the latches..

@@txrex great job! As a professional mechanic, the easiest part of my job is usually taking something apart! Lol. Getting it back together is something different sometimes! A lot of people fear that initial feeling that they have to take it apart and not knowing how. Part of the intrigue is learning what some engineer came up with to make it work!

@@txrex I think it was more the people who put them together. Not sure they understood the instructions.
