I was on fish in a weed bed 10’ from shore during one tournament. A competitor boat saw us and actually cut us off by going between us and the shore, 5’ from us. He had to drive through the weed bed to keep from bottoming out. Obviously, he caught nothing, nor did we after that stunt. People seem to lose their minds when they see someone else catch a fish. I found it easier to cease fishing tournaments rather than deal with the frustrations. You handled it better than I did. You are a gentleman in a sport where there is a shortage of gentlemen.

As a kayaker myself, some of you in these comments need better insight on proper boating etiquette, along with USCG law and rule study. Suppose this small feeder creek goes for a few miles beyond the mouth where he was passed by the boater…..do you think the boater should go somewhere else because this guy was fishing in the navigation lane at the mouth?? Let him “claim” the entire creek?? Or should the boater approach at low idle, be courteous and offer to pass with the trolling motor, and continue on up to his favorite fishing area? Fishing in skinny water makes close passing necessary. Try fishing rivers and streams, and lakes during winter drawdown. That’s just part of fishing creeks, streams, and rivers. People pass. At least he didn’t flop down the trolling motor and start casting!!!

He should have used his trolling motor to go by, but this is one of the least offensive experiences I've witnessed on the water. It's public water, and he was out there to catch fish too. It's really not his concern whether or not you're in a tournament.

He didn't know you were on a school till way too late. As far as he knew, you were facing at him, and after he passed, he put trolling motor down and fished water you already fished. Harbor freight sells a $20 “plastic welder” that is basically just a giant soldering iron with different head attachments for shaping the melted plastic. I used it to repair some plastic equipment cases for a friend. I just found an inconspicuous place on the edges of the cases to shave off “donor” plastic to repair, cracks and holes. Anyways, I would definitely try something like that before replacing a $4400 kayak. The iron softens the plastic around the crack, to fuse it together, but adding shavings of the very same plastic to it helps. It’s important that you 1) use the same type of plastic and 2) prep all surfaces with rubbing alcohol and use gloves so that you don’t introduce oil’s that would prevent adhesion or fusion. You might also want to keep a cheap little fountain pump handy that you could hook up to the battery and use like a bilge pump in an emergency.

@@joeschmo9838.....I'll take the $4400 for the kayak over a boat. Kayak gets bought once never needs gas or insurance which forever adds to the price of owning a boat. And the kayak reaches places a boat can't go.😂 I've personally pissed off so many boat guys as they sit there watching me catch fish they can't get to (between the shore and a tree line their boat don't fit in and too shallow for them to even try). Another plus is my car still gets 28 mpg hauling my kayak trailer. Try that hauling a heavy bass boat. Go with a quality kayak(name brands like.. Perception, Bonafide, Old Town.....etc....), add a trolling motor, and register it like you have to with a boat anyways......you won't regret it.

Cole; depending on if your boat is plastic or if it’s not, you can take a torch and get a piece of steel red hot and lay it on that cracked area and melt that plastic back together. Basically just get that plastic super tacky and kinda smooth it out with that hot steel. Don’t actually put the torch to the boat though. Hope that helps.

Great catching!!! Excellent keeping your cool too. A thought about your emergency re-patch job... and this comes from having been thru the US Navy's Damage Control Training School, Pearl Harbor, HI several times... I believe patching on the OUTSIDE of your hull, where the water pressure is attempting to push upwards and inwards INTO your hull, would result in a more firmly set patch. Just saying... I in fact effected a temporary emergency repair to a rubber canoe, decades ago, with an ordinary piece of bubble gum, which permitted completion of our journey that day.

Cole, maybe it's time to invest in a bilge pump. They're not that expensive. And are great for situations like this. I have an 18 foot fishing boat and I always make sure my bilge pump is working before I go out. Don't need to half way submerge my boat because I took on too much water. Yeah, it wasn't very "sportsman" of him to move in there on you like that, but it is public water, so you have to deal with it. I've experienced this from both sides as a tournament fisherman and as a civilian just fishing when tournament boats invaded the space I was fishing. You handled it well. Great video.

Besides, there was actually a study on bass movement done, can't remember where, but it was over a period of like 2 years. Anyway, one of the observations they made was how unaffected bass were by boat traffic. They will move off the spot and return within around 10 minutes or so. After being caught they went right back to the general area they were caught, however, due to suspected stress responses were unlikely to aggressively feed for about 48 hours. Then they would be back to normal behavior. They also found individual bass generally go to the same seasonal spots year over year even when caught in tournaments and dropped miles from that spot. They hung around the drop off for a period of around a month or so if needs were met, but slowly made their way back across the lake and by the next year they were back in their spot.

Being courteous to another fisherman on the water should just be a standard behavior. I have even had boats that seemed like they were attempting to swamp my kayak with their wakes. Come on people, be better than that. This isn't complaining, it is observing how some people can behave poorly. Cole, even though you had some adversity, you worked through it like a champ. Always take Flex Tape along! Yeah, their commercials are cheesy and corny, but their tape is the real deal, and can save your day, or even your life! Great job keeping your cool with the you-know-what that absolutely couldn't resist running the big motor right through where you were fishing, too. Stuff like that is exactly why the phrase my wife hears out of me the most is "I hate humans." Stay Safe!

Have you ever tried using the two oart plastic weld to plug the hole ? Sand it and mix the plastic weld and apply. It cures quick. I also place a couple big pool noodles inside the kayak to help keep it a float in case of something like that

I have a spot like you found going in to that narrow creek. With a log across the channel under water. Most people just stay on their big motor and go right over it headed back to the bigger water on the other side. I always stop their and land about 4-5 fish on my way in there. 💪🏻😂

Get a PTEX stick at a snowboard shop to fix the hole. That's what we used to use on skis and snowboards. I hear that works better than JB Weld. Just light the PTEX stick and let it drip on the hole or crack to seal it up.

He's a good man, just doesn't take lip from smart mouths!!!

13:25 - I had a 2" gash in the bottom of my Pelican Bass Raider last season, and I was able to fix it with West System 655-8 G/flex Epoxy Adhesive. It's a phenomenal product that I think would work better than JB Weld.

Why was he an idiot???? He was kind, and offered to go by with his trolling motor. It’s a very narrow creek, so passing by closely goes with fishing it. You can’t claim a creek to yourself!! It was just bad timing and luck that another boat was coming into the creek at the same time he sees surfacing bass in the navigation lane.

I'd patch it from the outside, with some fiber glass cloth and resin that way the patch would never fail, cheaper than a new yak, and with two under 3 years old you might feel a little bit of a pinch, now and again.

Cole, just a suggestion...get flex tape or the spray. Believe me it works. Or keep 2 kits of the patch you used. As you said, check your kayak the afternoon before and get it all ready for whatever. It's great to watch your videos.

Watched this the other day, and after thinking about it, it made me flash back to that misadventure with your wife a year or so ago when she got very dehydrated. Be very careful out there. NEVER go out without water and food. Just like when you sweat you lose electrolytes, you also burn carbohydrates. Both need to be replenished! You start to make far more mental errors when either or both are lacking!

The guy with the finest crappie/bass boat ever made and he has to paddle his invertible bubble boat around trying to look like he is having fun with no room, no stability, no speed, geeeeeez, just lay it on the window sill and slam the window on it ! When using anything that needs to stick to your plastic boat , scuff the area so the epoxy has something to hang on to. like 60 grit sandpaper by hand, scratch it in a cross hatch and it will stick.

Get the regular JB weld black 2 part mix, put some on it then a little square of household screen, mash it in let dry thrn put another coat over that, use plenty and cover twice the area as the first coat. That should hold it.
