    Man thanks for that video, I heard some noise in my drive, but had no idea what to do. You probably saved me enough money that I could afford another trip with you.

    Leo!! ❤️ great video!! At the 11:40 mark I would recommend greasing the outer threads as well. That’s like the bottom bracket on a bike and definitely don’t want want want it to make it difficult to remove the next time you want to service it. Just saying.

    Great video. I have a drive like that and have not had mine apart yet. Looks like it is well built and easy to service. Thanks Justin.

    I know it's an older video but it's a great one, I have a question, how is the plastic on these hoodoo kayaks? Is it a flimsy type of material or is it actually decent quality? Thanks!!

    • @cleanfunfishing
      @cleanfunfishing  Рік тому

      I used a tempest 5 days a week for over a year. Rule of thumb... the lighter the kayak the thinner the plastic. They have changed the tempest design though. I bought a new one and sold it quick. The old model I really liked but the new one is tippy and doesn't track well in my opinion

    Where do you order parts for your drive? Starting to do this to mine. Video was very helpful

    • @cleanfunfishing
      @cleanfunfishing  6 місяців тому

      You would have to contact the manufacturer of your kayak. Finding parts elsewhere has proved difficult. I ended up buying a whole new drive bc of the parts issue

    • @sethscott4211

      @cleanfunfishing I bought my pedal drive from hoodoo cause I bought a tempest. I asked the guy over the phone what's the maintenance on these and he said there isn't. I haven't owned it a year and I can't the right side plate off cause it's so seized on there. I broke a pin on the spanner bar trying to brake it loose. Never buying a thing from hoodoo again. I cleaned what I could and greased the top up. But I'm gonna need a new drive.

      I personally won't use anything less than 12 feet long. The 10 footers don't track well or handle chop as well

    Think I'm gonna fill it wit STP or gear oil

    • @cleanfunfishing
      @cleanfunfishing  Рік тому +1

      I used gear oil on my Bonafide drive and it works great but I think there was actually a fill screw to do that on that drive, such as on a rear differential. It might depend on the drive.

    • @cleanfunfishing

      The pedal tool is the easiest bc they are pressed on. Maybe Try a rubber malot

    Anyone switched to oil vs. grease? If so, what kind of oil did you go to?

    • @seanmyhre1305
      @seanmyhre1305 Рік тому

      There would be absolutely no point whatsoever to do this ever. I’m an industrial maintenance mechanic and work with gears and bearings every day. This doesn’t generate enough heat to require oil. Just service it on time and it’s good for a long time. If anyone is putting oil in a system like this there doing it just to do it! Complete waste of time.

      Plenty of chains and parts break on the fin style drives. Put 700 miles on one and you will have wear and tear on any drive
