One of your better videos. Great info. Thanks for sharing.
😁👍 thanks Rich!
Man thanks for that video, I heard some noise in my drive, but had no idea what to do. You probably saved me enough money that I could afford another trip with you.
😁 You're welcome man! 👍
Great video. I have a drive like that and have not had mine apart yet. Looks like it is well built and easy to service. Thanks Justin.
You're welcome! Easy to service but hard to find in stock parts 🙁
@@cleanfunfishing did u ever have luck finding parts? If so what website should I be looking at?
@@matthew3576 NO I did not. I had to order a whole new drive. Hoodoo stays sold out of parts 😒 but here's a whole new one for $500 Lol
This pedal drive looks like Native drive.
Has anyone found a source for parts?
Leo!! ❤️ great video!! At the 11:40 mark I would recommend greasing the outer threads as well. That’s like the bottom bracket on a bike and definitely don’t want want want it to make it difficult to remove the next time you want to service it. Just saying.
Thanks Rey! Good idea
Madre mia , cuando vi golpear la biela con el martillo de acero ..... aficionados jaajajajaja
Think I'm gonna fill it wit STP or gear oil
I used gear oil on my Bonafide drive and it works great but I think there was actually a fill screw to do that on that drive, such as on a rear differential. It might depend on the drive.
Great video. I have a Jackson Coosa FD an the drive on your kayak is far superior in my opinion.
Thanks man!
I know it's an older video but it's a great one, I have a question, how is the plastic on these hoodoo kayaks? Is it a flimsy type of material or is it actually decent quality? Thanks!!
I used a tempest 5 days a week for over a year. Rule of thumb... the lighter the kayak the thinner the plastic. They have changed the tempest design though. I bought a new one and sold it quick. The old model I really liked but the new one is tippy and doesn't track well in my opinion
Dudebthis one was really good and helpful
Thank you Chris! I'm glad it was helpful man! 😁
Excellent. Thanks
You're welcome
Where can I get upper an lower bearings for my drive ,thank you
Call the manufacturer
Gease the bearings? Lol. Had to point that out! Great vid.
Mine are past the point of grease lol 😆
@@cleanfunfishing I was pointing out the spelling error for grease when it popped up in the video. You spelled it without an r.
@@JorgeChavez-xm2ew dam!!! Oh well
@@cleanfunfishing lol, it's all good!👍
Good info
I'm glad it was helpful Craig!
Where do you order parts for your drive? Starting to do this to mine. Video was very helpful
You would have to contact the manufacturer of your kayak. Finding parts elsewhere has proved difficult. I ended up buying a whole new drive bc of the parts issue
@cleanfunfishing I bought my pedal drive from hoodoo cause I bought a tempest. I asked the guy over the phone what's the maintenance on these and he said there isn't. I haven't owned it a year and I can't the right side plate off cause it's so seized on there. I broke a pin on the spanner bar trying to brake it loose. Never buying a thing from hoodoo again. I cleaned what I could and greased the top up. But I'm gonna need a new drive.
Is there anyway to take the pedal out without using the pedal tool?
Justin this is probably your only video I haven’t seen. Have u seen the HooDoo voyager? If so what’s your thoughts on it?
I personally won't use anything less than 12 feet long. The 10 footers don't track well or handle chop as well
Hi, is there a bearing inside of this aluminum cover? Thanks
Yes that is the part I needed.
@@cleanfunfishingwhere did you get it?
@@hsilva3213 contact Hoodoo
Anyone switched to oil vs. grease? If so, what kind of oil did you go to?
There would be absolutely no point whatsoever to do this ever. I’m an industrial maintenance mechanic and work with gears and bearings every day. This doesn’t generate enough heat to require oil. Just service it on time and it’s good for a long time. If anyone is putting oil in a system like this there doing it just to do it! Complete waste of time.
Maintenance free with gear oil.
@@seanmyhre1305 Not a complete waste. It is definitely quieter and seems a little smoother. They did not put enough grease in at the factory.
Can I use fishing reel oil/grease?
It probably will not last

Why you should never buy a gear driven prop type pedal kayak.
I fixed the title for you. :)
Plenty of chains and parts break on the fin style drives. Put 700 miles on one and you will have wear and tear on any drive
