      As a longtime fan whose interest has been waning after 5 years this fucking infuriates me, entirely because of the game. What you got to experience was for the most part butchered snippets of better stories that are not available in the game anymore stitched together into a new player experience that drops any kind of creative integrity for the sake of quickly throwing exposition at you. Forsaken, for example, was an expansion that they removed from the game two years ago that was at its initial release nearly five years ago considered the best expansion the game ever had. That story was gorgeous and well delivered and personal and you got this shitty cut-down version of its first mission with no background or attachment provided whatsoever.
      i could write an essay about this but I won't, because it's not worth it anymore, but just know that absolutely none of the confusion is abnormal and almost every positive you gave is a reuse of something they made so long ago that it was almost a different studio making it.

    I’ve got over 3,000 hours in Destiny 2. I’m also a Destiny 1 veteran who’s been playing since before the first dlc came out. To this day, a lot of the time I spend playing the game is mainly dedicated to keeping up with everything going on in the story. There’s an entire in-game library of lore books you can access on your menu screen, and entire UA-cam channels are dedicated to explaining what those lore books mean. And still, so many important questions are unanswered. I guess, for me, trying to understand Destiny is part of the fun. But it’s definitely a lot for a new player to take in.

    This was very refreshing to see. I have a little over 4,000 hours in Destiny 2. I've had to spend a lot of time on UA-cam getting answers to missing story features. There's a lot that was mentioned in Destiny 1 but I didn't play it much then. Your mention of how Ikora makes you wanna sleep, yeah, I felt that same way. I still do whenever I hear her dialogue. Regardless of all that, everything you mentioned and experienced, yeah, all valid. Something I immediately had in common with you was the mention of the cutscenes. They're what pulled me into the game.

    I personally think that they don't tell you how you die because they want the player to come up with their own backstory which I like it adds to the role playing element of the game. I also do think that new light is still confusing and does not explain everything well enough, light and dark are not just a coin like it used to be. most of the new light experience is gate keeping which really sucks. also when a character "disappears" that is transmating via transmate beacons which is how you fast travel in the game. Navota is a Hive witch who killed those guardians so she is an enemy of the city who is only relevant for that bit of New Light. Cayde-6 was the what Zavala and Ikora are to their classes but for hunters and was the comedic person in the story before they killed him in the Forsaken Campaign. I am not going to defend the season pass system. but the weapons and armor you get from it are ass and you can easily earn better items via playing the game itself. Jumping off the tower is tradition if you dont do it at least once you havent played destiny. the reason for most content for being dlc is because the game used to be a standard 60 dollar game.

      It's also a lore tie-in. No Guardian knows the story of their previous life. And those who knew them in their previous life are forbidden from telling them anything about it. The point of your ghost resurrecting for the first time, is that it's supposed to be a fresh start. A second chance, without any of the baggage of your previous life to weigh you down. So why would the player get any different treatment from every other Guardian in-universe? It's not meant to be relevant what happened in your character's past; all that's supposed to matter is what the player does next

    • @dogsbecute
      @dogsbecute 11 місяців тому

      While the previous reply about the guardians arent supposed to know their past, its also lore that MOST new guardians are resurrected near the Cosmodrome in New Russia. Through out the entire campaign, you are learning about the light, and its purpose in the universe. You learn through the Witch Queen that she used uldren sov as a test bed, and when he got revived she figured out the Guardians creed of "Bravery, Devotion, Sacrifice" are the keys to becoming chosen by the Traveler. After learning about the Golden Age and the following collapse, and how the attack came from space, you can HEAVILY infer most new guardians were valiant warriors that died defending the cosmodrome and the traveler from the pyramids, considering Rasputin went dark after nuking himself on mars to keep the Hive God frozen beneath a nuclear tundra. All of that is in game, this next part is my head cannon. I think that can also be the reason Felwinter was born. The Traveler chose Rasputin because of his devotion to humanity.

    You. Know, if you played thru D1 first, you’d have understood a bunch more, in a simpler platform including who Cayde 6 is. Unfortunately, they vaulted forsaken, the red war is gone as well. HHS info played this game intensely off and on for 10 years, the build system is complicated. The perks on weapons is a lot to learn, then they added aspects, fragments and weapons. There’s the PvP Crucible, iron Banner and Trials of Osiris. PVE is the real story line and it does require you buy the expansions to really understand both the story and the best builds. To get the best armor and weapons you really start in the seasons and then the end game content. Is it worth it? Yes, it is. Is it expensive? Yes. But most players have being playing since D1 and know more. I cannot imagine knowing nothing and starting now. Do I love it? It’s the only game I play like this. Starting at Lightfall, man, your near Final Shape which is the conclusion of 10 years of lore, build, weapon crafting and game play. So you know, seasons tell quite a bit about the story as well.

As someone who started playing this game about 2 years ago, you should count your blessings though, because the new player experience was way worse and even more confusing than what you describe! I remember eventually having to plough through a 4 hour video by Byf which spliced together all the cutscenes going back almost to the beginning so the story made sense. And it took me ages to understand all the character stats, different subclasses, weapon archetypes etc. The good news is that the game has an active community and some excellent content creators who can explain this stuff in detail.

    As someone who's been playing this game for too many years, my advice for approaching things like builds and some advanced combat/ability mechanics and menus, is to just take it easy. What you did by focusing primarily on your overall power level number at first is great, and eventually you'll be able to more easily branch out and explore more complex systems, but don't stress too much about all that at first. Yes, there are countless tweaks, mods, fragments, and options that are available, and that can feel super overwhelming on its surface, but you aren't required to build into those systems to succeed early on. It's very likely you'll find options down the road that better suit your play style and preferences, but you won't be at a disadvantage running whatever starting subclass setup came "out of the box", and using whatever items you pick up that have a bigger number than the one you already have equipped. When you are more ready to explore these systems, they'll be there for you. I also would recommend not focusing too much on what could be "most effective" early on, as at the end of the day, there are very few situations in the game that you couldn't succeed in using any class, subclass, or weapon. If you wanna switch things up, just look for stuff that sounds like fun to you - oh cool, a throwing knife melee that explodes when you hit a target, badass! What's this about "scorch"? Oh, it can set enemies on fire if i use certain abilities... Well i like that, and this fragment says it makes scorch last longer, that sounds like a good thing! - have fun, and don't be nervous to try different stuff out any time you feel like, you can always switch back later if it isn't working for you 👍 Stay vigilant guardian 👋

Your confusion with Cayde is much lesser tha nwhat I had when I started in 2020 when timeline reflections werent event available. I love this game. Well over 50 full days in just Destiny 2, but I have to agree with others. This game although free to download and start is not entirely free to play. The game is the equivalent of an MMO at this point that just updates and sells you the story at full price. Ive bought every single expansion, watched every lore video, join Discord servers, used LFG, etc. It's a very fun game in my opinion, but it's so hard to get into if you dont have anyone helping you understand things as you go or spend money. The game is huge and has almost 10 years of content and story that you can't even experience anymore. For someone like me who played through D1 and D2 up to the most recent Expansion i'm in love with this game and I will support its continuation but i have such a hard time recommending it to people because of the money and time pit this franchise has become. Fantastic story, nice enough community, but the transition to its current state of the game, the vaulting of whole expansions that have released without allowing people to experience them is beyond frustrating. I love this game but I have my gripes with it.

Sometimes players will delete characters to replay some missions, and we get the trailer, so many vets saw the NEW trailer and the older ones aswell.

    Nice video, I am D2 vet with like 7000 hours (its not an addiction I swear). So, if I am going to offer some unsolicited advice.
    1) If, you are going to buy a campaign the current one, Lightfall is the most relevant and will allow access to it's story missions which are somewhat mid, the Raid, root of nightmares which is also considered mid by veteran players but is an excellent intro to raiding imo. Lightfall will also allow you to access the strand subclasses which has a fun grapple mechanic and excellent crowd control abilities which will be useful for higher difficulty activities like Master raids and Grandmaster nightfall strikes.
    2) The best narrative and gameplay sequence in the game is the Witch Queen expansion on Legend difficulty, which also comes with access to one of the best boss encounters in the game at the final boss of the Vow of the Disciple raid. This expansion may or may not give access to weapon crafting as well, a useful system to getting personalized weaponry. Weapon crafting, however, still requires farming and RNG to unlock weapon patterns. Witch Queen, sadly does not have an associated subclass to unlock.
    3) Beyond Light is narratively not great either, but allows access to the Stasis subclass. The only other selling point to this expansion is access to the raid, Deep stone crypt which has some fun encounters and great loot.
    4) The greatest fun in Destiny 2 is raiding imo. Solving challenges with friends and shooting baddies while earning some potent weapons.
    5) Grandmaster Nightfalls are extra challenging with bullet sponge enemies and champions. Champs require specific weapon or ability combos to stun, so that they take increased damage. Not the most interesting difficulty knob, but Grandmasters earn you end game upgrade materials and adept weapons (slightly higher base stats and access to a larger pool of weapon mods).
    6) The crucible, PvP, is the most repayable content in the game since playing against different players makes each match feel slightly unique. The flipside of this, the meta for PvP is always well- defined, so about 1/3 to 1/2 of your lobbies will be filled with meta spammers. However, many players like me have been perfecting their PvP builds and playstyles for, no exaggeration, a decade. Running into those players can be very frustrating and sometimes downright toxic. If you have ever liked arena shooters, like halo of cod, and have an intrinsic motivation to get better when losing, it could be worth dipping your toes into the deep end. You will be rewarded with some crucible specific loot and cosmetics if you stick with it.
    7) Some people's end game enjoyment comes from finding synergies with weapons, exotic armor and armor mods, and Subclass abilities then watching enemies melt in front of you. Others are here to max out their guardian rank. Still others are here to dominate other players in PvP. Find your niche, and importantly a group of other players who are playing the game for the same reasons you are.
    TLDR: Get some buddies and do some raids, Try everything else out. Witch queen legendary campaign is amazing. If you get a lot of dopamine when those purple or yellow items appear on the right side of your screen post-activity completion, be careful because this game already has a hold on you.
    Good luck, Guardian. I am looking forward to your part 2
    Feel free to reach out with questions, I know you will have a lot of them.

    I'm not sure if anyone else has said, but the reason why Cayde acts like he knows you isn't because the mission is just a sample of the expansion, it's because the game is missing it's original base story, not to mention you're missing the entire first game's context. Additionally, each of those expansion sample missions is the beginning of each expansion, so by doing them you're basically getting spoiled to some degree on what happens in the previous expansions. Not to mention that the seasonal stories (that also cost money) which bridge each expansion to the next are ALSO removed from the game after the year is over. I'm very salty about this, as a day one Destiny 1 player. They remove core plot all the time and it's ridiculous.
    If you are starting the game late and care about story, you are being done a massive disservice by Bungie, even if you pay for all of the available content. The game is probably the best FPS on the market, but it is surrounded by grind systems that I loathe and horrible mistreatment of the story's presentation. If you're coming from Warframe, you probably won't mind the grind, but you're definitely going to have to put extra effort (that you shouldn't have to) in order to care about the story.

Then imagine him getting offed in a cutscene following after some futile gameplay, and now new players are, in the aftermath of that, constantly reminded of how well liked and influential and important he was, all without any context or emotional investment from a newbie's POV.

    Destiny is the best PvE shooter experience (the looting and seasonal content has its highs and lows) but the one thing I have always had told to me over the 10 years of playing it and introducing people to it is that the shooting, weapons, and abilities all feel masterfully consistent.
    Keep in mind, the intro mission in Old Russia/Cosmodrome was gutted from Destiny 1 into the modern version of their Tiger Engine, which has way better fidelity in terms of lighting.
    One of the main gripes people have with the game is that original D2 content (the Red War and its two mini DLCs Curse of Osiris [god awful BTW] and Warmind) were removed from the game even though you had purchased them. This also goes the same for the entirety of the year of Forsaken content as well...
    HOWEVER, the bright side is that when they bring back all the old content, it usually has VFX and actual story overhauls that either clarify or recontextual things for newer players, like: Some of the original D2 strikes were updated to match the current state of affairs in the world. Navota was originally Omnigul from Destiny The Dark Below but her strike was recontextualized for all the New Light players. The Arms Dealer strike was originally a D2 vanilla strike that got recontextualized into a Lightfall setpiece (it still results in the same ending, but there are new mechanics and paths instead). Lake of Shadows was also another D2 vanilla strike (for Playstation, until Forsaken) that got recontextualized when the Pyramids invaded our Solar system and includes some new lore and interactions with the Witch Queen and Lightfall expansions (this also fundamentally plays out the same, but keeps newer players up to date).
    Almost all the Destiny 1 raids that were stuck in 720p and on two console generations back are now ported for FREE to all players. These raids got mechanical and graphical updates as well as loot overhauls as well. Recently the old Destiny 1 Crota's End was integrated into Destiny 2 and it was given a lot of love and the loot from it is really good. They also brought back Destiny 1's first expansion raid King's Fall back earlier last year which was also really nice with all the new graphical upgrades and being able to be played in 60+fps. All the old content that was removed and vaulted gets repurposed and rolled out better than it was in its earlier state... at least so far anyway, but a lot of the complain comes from players who are disatisfied by Bungie's practice to remove content, which they have stopped doing but still do for season pass content (this has always been the case on a year to year basis from its implementation anyway). Every year, they tend to take the most favored parts of the experiemental seasonal content and make permanent adjustments to add to the game like one season introduced the concept of longer, more enemy dense PvE environments called Battlegrounds which all have been integrated into the Strikes playlist instead of being taken out for new content cycles. Systems like Legendary Lost sectors which were season specific and limited to only a handful of lost sectors were then implemented across all lost sectors and were given target farming (you can run them solo to focus farm for specific slot exotic armor pieces).
    A lot of the complaints about the game comes from the management of playable content rather than the quality of content itself (though obviously that is to personal preference). Since you are a new player and are fascinated with the game, you'lll definitely have a lot to do, but that train will slow down just as much as any other looter game. But if you want a game that has a lot of extensive lore and atmosphere, the game will do wonders for that inner chidlike exploration you have been craving.

    • @PixelleHearts
      @PixelleHearts Рік тому

      I would also like to add that the DLC purchasing/entitlement confusion isn't as bad as the Steam or any of the console marketplaces makes it out to be. The reason why there are so many options is that Bungie wanted people to hop into the game at any given point with the seasonal model so they make people buy things a la carte (or if you have the money, a package deal which saves a lot of money in the long run).
      As for why Shadowkeep was not a main story beat in the timeline, it was mostly a remix of old content given to us with upgrades (it was also Bungie's first expansion after they split with Activision Blizzard). This was considered the true precursor for the Darkness' revival into the story (cause Activision Blizzard forced Bungie to cut our the nebulous concept of capital D darkness, which is why the intro cutscenes go so hard on the concept for new players now). The Light and Darkness saga begins with Shadowkeep because Bungie never intended to produce Destiny 2 as a sequel story or follow it up with Forsaken; Activision wanted more player retention and a dramatic story/shocker value of Cayde dying to have a revenge story to draw in players who dropped off for sentimental value (funny cause Cayde is somehow coming back next expansion)... so Activision funded them, was disappointed even though Forsaken was seen as a success, which in turn disgruntled Bungie and made them split.
      The true progression for the original vision for Destiny was supposed to be Destiny 1 with expansions rather than split into two separate games. The natural progression was supposed to be D1, Taken King, Rise of Iron, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, and Lightfall into next years finale. The implementation of D2 as a reboot sequel as well as the above story about Forsaken were likely not a part of Bungie's original vision because we learned about Activision's shitty business practices about throttling player XP, changing all the loot systems of the original game, and implementing different dev teams (Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios) into Bungie's dev space which led to mixed results. It got to the point where Bungie had to reintegrate original story beats from the alpha version of the game AROUND the context of the story that Activision made them make. A lot of the characters like Rasputin, Crow, and Osiris had their stories changes in response to the build of the game dictated by Activision, but now a lot of these characters are back with actual stories to tell in the seasonal structure. People loved the new seasonal drip fed content Bungie implemented because it felt like the world was moving forward with progress on a weekly basis, but we have all now grown tired of it because of burnout and he lack of having real tangible results (hopefully with Final Shape we will get a satisfying resolution to the saga). Bungie has had to do a lot of course correcting to fix a lot of the problems that Activision molded into the game's foundations... but that isn't to say that Bungie does not share blame for a lot of other things wrong with the game like the current expansion's god awful pacing/story telling (they fired some of the writing team who made it apparently), but hey, at least the new darkness powers called Strand (the green ones) are actually really fucking fun to use and the people who made them are fucking amazing at what they do.

    • @PixelleHearts
      @PixelleHearts Рік тому

      @@kol4o1000 Yeah, you'll be shocked by how much Activision made Bungie change the narrative direction of the game, which also has to change the systems implemented for the game as well. Originally in Destiny 1, we had a similar class customization system to that which we have now. You could go into your character, pick their elemental subclass, then pick all the functions/abilities from a tree (similar to the seasonal artifact), but Activision requested it to be gutted to streamline the player experience when Destiny 2 launched for all platforms, especially for the completely new PC players. This was because at the beginning of Destiny 2, the big bad Cabal Red Legion comes and blocks out the Traveler and basically we lost the light and earned new powers instead (so the old system was gone similar to how Metroid makes Samus lose everything). It wasn't until Beyond Light (the blue expansion) that introduced us to the use of Darkness powers of Stasis, the ones you used in the video (the ice vortex kama sickle things) that we got a revision to the ORIGINAL subclass system but ONLY for Stasis. Literally every player loved the reintroduction of this system, and going forward through the seasons past it at the start of Witch Queen, each elemental subclass got overhauls with that system in mind AND we even got some new abilities and super for free because a lot of the original D2 supers were so similar that they could be combined into 1, so they needed to add in stuff to compensate (some changes were WAY better, some argue are worse). This new system introduced the "verbs" system... that is, when you look at your subclass and see the tooltips that pop up, those are "verbs", effects/debuffs/buffs that occur when using abilities (things like Cure, Restoration, Jolt, Devour... etc etc) as well as gave perks on weapons more variety and flexibility through implementing subclass synergies that interact with those effects (this was completely new, and is one of the reasons why Witch Queen's year of content was considered amazing).
