I'm so happy with how this video turned out. Thanks to all my actors and of course thanks to DAVIS as well! Please be sure to appease the almighty algorithm by "liking" the video and leaving some comments!
Great video. The actor who read 8th Dr was really good.
@@jamesstewart7736 I believe it was Matthew Toffollo (aka BatmanMarch on UA-cam)
@@SonicTimewarp thank you. I’ll look him out 👍🏻
This Needs To Be An Actual Episode
Oh my god, he got Batmanmarch to play the 8th doctor!
This is some Avengers endgame level of Crossover.
The Flood is truly the perfect example of a story that's meant to be adapted to the screen. It has an a truly compelling premise, but also enough problems that a TV version wouldn't run the risk of diminishing it.
I got an immediate spark for joy when you mentioned Frobisher hahahaha. Love that 1930's detective talking penguin
Glad I'm not the only one who loves Frobisher, it's a shame there's not as much done with him nowadays
@@maldon3659 Who could NOT love a shapeshifting alien who likes to be a TALKING PeNGUIN who just happens to have the voice of a grizzled 1930's detective?? How is that not best best companion concept that has ever been thought up ever??? New Who could never. (although I WILL lay down my life for Donna)
All hail Frobisher! All hail the big talking bird!
Now petitioning for Cyber Jeff and Cyber Steve to be in Series 13
Your wish came true!
Yeah, it never occurred to me how bad of a first impression that was of Destrii. For context, Destrii's knowledge of Earth mainly comes from old films and tv shows that often had less than ideal representations alongside this being her first visit to present-day Earth. This doesn't entirely excuse her actions, but I hope it explains a bit. Also, very pleased to see a positive review of one of my favourite Cyberman stories.
And of course Jofrada, her uncle, definitely not a good guy. He left her for dead when she raised moral objections to his plan.
"Hello and welcome to British Atop the 4th Wall where bad comics burn!"
Once again gotten that joke out of the way only because I know that Linkara is also a DW fan.
“I am a time lord!”
*Doctor punches cyberman
@@BH-98 Neat, I could do it a little better, 'You are a converted Metallic creatures with no emotions but me I AM A MAN!'
Destrii is from another planet with a strict social structure and got all her knowledge of Earth through material supplied her uncle (an anthro tiger and not a nice person). Clearly he didn’t filter it for racism. Destrii’s home world is basically planet of the anthros. In her debut appearance she tricked Izzy, the Doctor’s then companion, into a bodyswap to avoid pursuers.
The Flood was Destrii’s first story as an ongoing companion, which makes her lack of appearance until over a decade later in a one-off guest appearance (a celebration of the DWM comic strip and its creations) really disappointing because she could have had a great character arc. Her biology not being human or even human looking gets used as a cliffhanger resolution, and her human disguise means she can move around in human populations. So much potential.
Invading and force conversion has been over done. If the Cybermen can persuade people to become just like them, is much more interesting and scary
With the modern era starting tomorrow, will Cyber-Steve and Cyber-Jeff get more opportunities to make appearances?
More importantly, will Steve finally get his big break with the rise of RTD, Moffat and Chibnall?
It’s fair to say Destrii’s opening in this story is a bit... of its time, at best? But I do love her. Maybe I’m blinded by my rose tinted glasses, but the Eighth Doctor comic run is one of the most amazing runs in all of Who. Honestly Izzy Sinclair’s character arc (the previous companion before Destrii) is legit the reason why I accepted I was queer when I did. Plus more adventures with my favourite Doctor is always welcome. For sure this is one of my favourite Cyberman stories!
Just shows how important it is to have this representation in the media. I like Izzy as well. She appeared in a Big Finish story.
I feel the Cybermen used to the rain because it's a lot easier to convert people when they're more willing to it, compared to non consentually doing it, and possibly going into more fights than needed in the process.
Can’t believe you haven’t covered Cyberon yet...
enjoyed cyberon a lot more than expected
Next Time: Returning to the Television screen again, But this time we are about to enter the parallel world, The revival of the metallic soilders, An old director returning, And a cliffhanger with no next time trailer 'Gasp happily' it's a good miracle, Be peraed for Rise of the Cybermen & The Age of Steel, They gain coldness and pain.
I will never understand why they have a cliffhanger and yet so often have a next time at the end. The last time I remember there being no next time after a huge cliffhanger was either Stolen Earth or Almost People. It just takes away from the shock and intrigue.
And yes, we need an adaptation of The Flood in the modern series. Or even big finish.
Make it a sudo Sequel with the current doc referencing the comic
I’ll never not smile when that TV movie theme kicks in.
the Flood story arc had planned the eighth doctor regenerating into Eccelstone's 9 as an alternate ending with Destrii witnessing the regeneration. Furthermore they had plans to have a comic series with 9 travelling with Destrii but RTD vetoed it wanting 9 to start with afresh with Rose.
The scene where they beg to be converted is really kinda haunting. Might be some of the darkest stuff I’ve seen in doctor who
“Bows and arrows against the lightning...” Such a good, subtle reference to War of the Worlds
With the intro of The War Doctor, this handing over of the jacket may be him blocking the war from his memory.
That cliffhanger gave me goosebumps across my whole body. That’s a damn good.
This story seems genuinely amazing. Massively epic.
Ay, the "Matrix Man" is back, and I've been convinced to buy every Cyber-Man comic book story ever. It's like Christmas has come early.
Brilliant! Or should that be Fantastic! As Destrii says.
Thx for the recommendation there.
Great voice-acting as well.
Oh by the way Izzy Sinclair, Maxwell Edison and Grace Holloway have cameos according to the Wiki.
Great vid and some excellent comic strips to follow up on.
I think if this was actual canon, this would be my favourite Cyberman story of all time, overtaking Earthshock. In terms of Destrii, if you read her story from the beginning her unlikability is more understandable. Have you read Vol. 3 of the Paul McGann comic strips?
?
It is all 8 storys are Even the ones that contradict each other because he fought in the time war And the faction paradox stuff
They should have tried invading in 2020 for sure. That way there'd be no need for the rain stuff anymore, we'd all join of our own accord
Well the rain wouldn't be much use as people would be inside. Except for people saying the Cybermen are all fake and running over to prove it. On the plus side Laurence Fox would probably be improved.
Who’s still guessing what next Decembers theme will be
I’m guessing the master
50 years since season 8.
we can hope, he is the best villain in my eyes
@@IBagel2 Yup. Delgado's Master is probably my favourite character of all fiction.
@@feilvei4498 yeah hes pretty good, although i do like Anthony more
That's was great. I'd tried dipping into the comics in the wilderness years but it never really grabbed me in terms of explaining it's self.
This must be apochrafull but I was convinced I'd read an interview with RTD about him encouraging the comic makers to do the regeneration which they chose not to do.
Other way around. I think they wanted to do the regenepatient. But it never got off the land because they didn't want to throw away there. New companion But nine had to be an edgy loner
Honestly you make the perfect cyberman voice. They should hire you for voice work to be a unique variant of Cyber Leader or Cyber Controller.
Honestly, I'm only comfortable doing voice acting for Cybermen because of my monotone voice acting.
The second I hear Matt’s 8th Doctor, I knew it was him. Such a classic😂
Really enjoying this series, and I am very familiar with the mainstream series, but really interesting to hear your thoughts and analysis, and now the extended canon too!
If anyone is looking for this comic, it's in an omnibus type format with several other Cybermen based comics (including the one with the Cyberman that travelled with an incarnation of the Doctor). I can't remember the name of the Omnibus but it has several Cybermen on the cover including the design from The Flood in a style closer to what they'd hypothetically look like in live action.
Is that Batmanmarch playing the 8th Doctor? Reminds me of his old figure adventures. Good to see DAVIS again
I was thinking the same thing
Next time on Cybercember: The Peak of the Cybermen
Really good video! I loved seeing you little adaptation scenes of this amazing comic. Shame the Eighth Doctor comic aren't really covered that much considering they are up there with some of the best Doctor Who personally. I'm not sure if you're aware but Miles Taylor did make an amazing action figure adaptation of The Flood a couple of years ago and it's a truly magnificent way of experiencing the story if you haven't already.
The rain of pain will turn us all insane.
Beep the Meep does really amazing motion comics.
Finally, something I have no idea about! I'm looking forward to learning about The Flood. Right, I'm gonna predict the other EU episode. Obviously we have eight television stories plus Cyberwoman from Torchwood as I assume we're skipping Ghosts/Doomsday so that gives us one day extra. I'm gonna guess either Blood of the Cybermen between Next Doctor and Closing Time to represent video games or Supremacy of the Cybermen between Dark Water and Doctor Falls to represent the 50th anniversary of the Cybermen.
If I were to go back in time and tell myself of ten years ago, that I would be in a MrTARDIS video, with batmanmarch, I would think I'd have turned to drugs at some point.
This is a collaboration I never knew I wanted.
The Cybermen are awesome villains in billions of ways
I absolutely love the 8th doctor comic series. Reading the original paperback collections was my introduction to Doctor Who. McGann was My doctor without even seeing him on screen. I cannot tell you how much I love seeing his comics being given some love
Having Batmanmarch back as the Eight Doctor is like music to my ears. Oh I miss his Doctor Who stories.
Huh neat, I know one thing's for sure, It's not the first time I've seen the Cybermen in Comic book form, Like say IDW's Dr Who and Star Trek The Next Generation, I know there's one with the original Star Trek team, I'm just including the one I mentioned because it includes the revived Cybermen, It includes the 11th Doctor Amy and Rory, Just thought I bring that up before you all get confused on what I'm talking about.
I loved this comic in my early teen years, The Cybermen had basically won!
I would love to see this story adapted in the abow as an actual regeneration story
I literally bought The Flood as a tpb because I loved the story so much. Then I bought more and more...
I genuinely wish they'd adapt this or animate it with Paul McGann on vocals because it's genuinely one of the best Cybermen stories I've ever come across. Having people beg for their emotions to be taken away, having the Cybermen be so advanced and so good at weaponizing emotions was a brilliant stroke. Also, the completely crazy design of the Cybermen are so cool looking, gaunt and terrifying.
Another one of your magnum opuses
But Destrii is a villain! And this was an arc cut extraordinarily short. Whilst very unnecessary, her prior company was definitely of the racist variety. I do not recommend the actual Nazi villain Klein!
P.S I never put together the leather jacket line! Am I dumb?
Nope.
To be fair, this is literally the only Destrii story I've read (one reason I needed your assistance). I'd like to read more and give her a chance though.
Thanks for being part of CyberCember!
@@MrTARDIS I think you were very fair with what you knew, I found her annoying in this story being racist to the vendor.
@@MrTARDIS The graphic novel Oblivion is a great start for Destrii material, tying her introduction into the final set of storylines for Izzy.
Wait did destrii and the dictator travel with a nazi
That one line in this comic for this if we don't want to destroy the world doctor we want to save it from itself
It could even be argued their design in The Flood is an ultimate evolution of their cyborg roots. Instead of being piecemeal parts spliced together, the future Cybermen are completely techno-organic. Hence the "melting" at the end.
I have an idea what is for this year you list off the Christmas specials the very first one all the way the last r i p Christmas specials we all want you back
Yay, Cyber-Jeff and Cyber-Steve are back again.
I really hope this and other comic stories are adapted into an animated series.
Aside from Spare Parts, was this the first Cyberman story to focus on the conversion process?
I really hope you get to do Titan Comics Supremacy of the Cybermen story for Cyber-cember. It’s another fantastic story and really shows the Cybermen at their absolute strongest.
I was reading it as the issues were coming out, and it was a slow burn. Key word slow, as in months between a handful of pages of development in each of the four storylines. Personally I’m not a fan of the finished product, the art being a particularly sore point as many characters do not look as they should.
Star Trek did reference Doctor Who! In the first season TNG episode 'The Neutral Zone', the Cryo satalite had several bodys aboard that didnt survive, apparently the set designers put the first 7 Dotor's names into the Manifest.
Well 3 years after 9/11 it's not too far a stretch to say that the time period has a lot of heightened emotional stress, 7/7 and the invasion of Iraq too contributing as well.
The 00's was a very emo time
Is that BatmanMarch doing the voice for 8
Time vortex eight is my favorite super saiyan 2 gohan moment
Is that Cyberman doing the type of salute I think it is in that comic panel?
He hasn’t turned on notifications for Davis!
“Bows and arrows against the lighting.”
I know, that’s from The War Of The Worlds.~
Cybermen vs the Martians. Now that would be intersting.
@@Hankbot
Tbh, the Martians would win.
I hope you'll do a review of 'Doctor Who/Star Trek TNG: Assimilation2' when you cover the Matt Smith era, please.
Hot Take From Me: Eighth Doctor Books and Comics>>>>>>>Eighth Doctor Big Finish
Heresy
Might have just gone and brought “The Flood” … I hope it’s most fascinating
I’m a little disappointed that you didn’t include any of the tie-in novels - Iceberg or The Killing Ground might have been fun to cover - but I can see how they might have been tough to find or maybe asking too much of a time commitment.
Wow your right about that opening chapter. They probably would never allow that in the show especially in this day and age. Also while I'm not a fan of the desgin of these cybermen in this comic. That dalek like voice in the speech bubble read outs dose kinda suit them. Suits them better then the 80s cybermen in earlier dub sketches *cough *
Ngl I prefer these Cybermen designs over most of NuWho.
Also imagine this 8th Doctor's outfit but with the leather. Ngl that would go hard
I don't love the superslim cyber models, but I surprisingly don't hate'em either.
I just watched a shorter version of The Flood by Taylor'd Vision. A production using action figures. It took out some of the things you did not like, it was a great adaptation.
Surprised you’re not covering Cyberon tbh. It may be low budget but it’s also the only time ‘cybermen’ have appeared in a movie.
I think I'd accept Cybermen's gift if they offered me it even through pain the process brings. I have a bipolar disorder and I'm bloody tired of my own emotions and self-destructive thoughts... I wish if Cybermen were real and could take me to conversion.
I really hope that when we get to Doomsday, it's Cyber Jeff and Steve who come up against Dalek Thay.
He already did Doomsday for Dalekcember last year, so he's skipping that one.
5:30 umm, that's how a lot of women characters are written now. "It doesn't matter if you have any character, just as long as you can fight you are empowering!"
It's slightly better now, but I do think the difference between 2000 and 2020, broadly speaking, is night and day.
@@MrTARDIS yeah, but sadly not by much.
@@keelanbarron928 Nowadays of course you have that certain element in fandom being egged on by the people in power.
Right, im ordering this comic.
Do! The entire 'The Flood' collection is excellent.
It’s a great collection. Some fantastic stories like Where Nobody Knows Your Name.
If The Rumors About An Actual TV Run For The Eighth Doctor Played By Paul McGann From Russell T Davies Are True One Of The Episodes Needs To Be The Flood.
You should look at the titans comic story supremacy of the cybermen it about how with the help from rassilon after his exile in hevent sent the cybermen infected all of time and space and also moments in the doctor timeline such as the cyberman captures the 1st doctor in the junkyard in the unearthly child and interrupts the time wars cornering the war doctor in the barn with the moment and turning the 2rd doctor into a cyberplaner in the moonbase episode droning the there some corners of the universe speech and cyberconverting the master during the 3rd doctor era and hacking K9 and invading skaro and they also capture and converted ace it a great read and a awesome story
The 8th doc VO was pretty good, the voice wasn't right at all but the speech patterns were so on point it didn't matter
If someone asked me who my favourite Cybermen was I would say: Cyber-Jeff and Cyber-Steve.
I honestly thought that Ashad from Ancension was from the flood variant of cybermen
Well maybe there was some inspiration. Although he is sort of flipped, in that he is violently emotional and partially converted as opposed to their elegant streamlined look.
Love from gallifray boys
the doctor might have to take.. the ultimate sacrifice .
me: nooooooo, really?
The character destrii is a alien fish person in a girl body named Izzy sinclear an body swap that literally a body swap in doctor who is a good idea I wish they do something like this in the actual show unlike new earth where that was a processing body not body swap
The motion comic is gone
Honestly, the random racism thing would've been explained if this was her second story and her first time going to earth so that way you could argue that she's new to humans and doesn't know the social norms........but it's not. (At least I'm assuming that this is not the second story that she appears in.)
It was her first time going to modern day earth though it was not her second story depending how you count she officially became a companion in the story immediately before the flood though she had been a recurring character since oblivion back in 2001. Her back story is that her family ruled the oblivion empire and where abusive with her only real entertainment being tv shows like Star Trek and bonanza which is the only knowledge about humans she has so she doesn’t fully understand social norms despite loving earth.
Destrii first appeared in 2001s oblivion where she swapped bodies with Izzy the Doctors companion at the Time only to be seemingly killed before they could
@@alexbennett7018 okay.
@@alexbennett7018 She got all her Earth media from her uncle, who was definitely a bad guy, so he wouldn’t bat an eyelid at less PC material.

MrTARDIS: 19:14 "So the 8th Doctor is Jesus now, pretty cool climax..."

Come on, man. Of course you aren't going to like Destrii if this is the first story you start with. She's not meant to be a typical companion, her initial introduction is that of an antagonist. I think you would warm up to her if you read through her entire arc. I agree with your points about her racism, but the appeal of the character comes from the Doctor helping her break free of her uncle's influence, in addition to the fate she was trying to avoid by stealing Izzy's body.
i mean there is logic, if they just invaded they'd have to wage full war and as they said, "war is wasteful", regardless of how well it went they'd lose personel and thus as well material, making forced compliance a more logical solution.
its still fucked up nonetheless
The lookof these Cybermen is terrible
