Homemade Sugar Scrub 5 ways ~ Gift In A Jar ~ How To Make Hand Scrub ~ Gift Ideas ~ Noreen's Kitchen

  • Time for another gift in a jar, just in time for those holiday parties! This homemade sugar hand scrub is super easy to make and affordable! You can do a big batch of one fragrance or you can do individual scents. This can be scaled up or down to suit your needs and I know you are going to love it! Perfect for book club, mommy group, bible study group or any time you need a bunch of the same thing to give as a gift.
    These are super easy to put together with only a few ingredients. Regular, granulated sugar, coconut or olive oil and essential oils and/or extracts. The rule is for every cup of sugar you will need 1/2 cup of oil. I used 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of oil. I ended up with five 1/2 cup jars worth of this scrub.
    I only mixed the base of oil and sugar together then divided it into the jars. Then I "flavored" each jar differently. This is a great way to get a lot of gifts done at one time. So when you need to make things for a lot of people, this is the way to go! I used vanilla and chocolate extract as well as peppermint, orange and lemon essential oils to make all of my different types of scrubs. You are only limited by your imagination.
    You can also combine scents. Such as chocolate/peppermint, eucalyptus/mint, lemon/lavender and full on citrus with orange/lemon. You can make what you like! These are great gifts for both women and men. Rick even suggested I use some of the specialty bacon extract and make some with that scent. Leave it to him to ask for bacon flavored sugar scrub! LOL!
    I have designed a sheet of cute labels that you can print out and use for your sugar scrubs and more this holiday season. You can get them on my website at the link below!
    I hope you give this sugar scrub a try and I hope you and the ones you make it for love it!
    Happy Holidays!

    Love these jars! Small sizes like this are great since they’re more likely to get used up than larger sizes. Just remember that, if giving these as gifts, you might also want to include instructions letting the receiver know to not introduce water into the scrub itself. Advise them to use a spoon to remove product from the jar instead of wet hands because the introduction of water into the scrub can cause mold growth since there is no preservative used. And mold can be present long before the green fuzzy stuff shows up.

    what would a person use for a preservative in these scrubs and then how long would they last ? i am looking to make something to subsidize my social security income but if i couldn't sell within 3 months than it would be a loss as i would have to toss it out. please help me. thank you in advance.

      There is nothing you can use as a preservative. Even if you added vitamin E you would still only be able to have a three month shelf life. Honestly, this is not the way to make extra income.

    What is "No Editorial Excerpts without permission"?

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  2 роки тому

      It means that someone cannot use any part or the whole of my video, AKA my intellectual and creative property without my express, written permission for any purpose be it, in print, in a blog, in any digital format or to use a clip in a news broadcast without asking and getting my permission to do so. Otherwise I will sue them and the disclaimer states that by doing so without my permission you understand that you will face litigation. I was a paralegal for 11 years working with family, criminal and corporate law. Hope that helps you better understand.

      @@noreenskitchenchannel I see. What about Fair Use? "Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses-such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research-as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use."

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  2 роки тому

      My disclaimer negates the "Fair Use" doctrine. My intellectual property is mine. If you take it and use it and get money from it then you are in violation. I have a program that finds when my videos have been stolen in whole or in part. Fair Use is not really what everyone thinks it is. I have a copyright on my videos. When you use a part of a television show, UA-cam will flag and remove your video because of the copyright violation. Fair Use does not apply to everything. In this case it does not apply to my intellectual and creative property because I own it and using it without my permission violates my copyright.

    • @noreenskitchenchannel
      @noreenskitchenchannel  2 роки тому

      Why are you asking? Are you wanting to use my video without permission? Claiming the Fair Use doctrine is old news. I do not like having my videos poached. So if you want to use it for some purpose, please ask permission and intent and I will consider it. But I don't usually allow it.

      Lol! Seriously? $25 is incredibly expensive. I recommend checking with your locality to see if you can sell them. Cottage goods have laws in many parts of the country and require permits to sell personal care and food items like this. I had an inspiration while watching this video. I have a daughter, a sister and a cousin who have allergies and asthma. If I were to make these WITHOUT the vanilla or essential oils, they would at long last be able to use some of these nice, luxury skin care products without suffering from the scents in all the commercial products. Is there a flaw I'm not seeing in this idea? (I also plan to make scented ones for the rest of us!)

      Yes! Unscented is great, I just made some using coconut sugar, and gave my (grown) daughter a sugar shrub followed by hot stone massage. She's allergic to crane sonar, so coconut was a better choice (and unscented)

      Best unscented oil is grapeseed oil. It also has great skin benefits too.

    Noreen, do you make soap? Maybe you could do a video on making some fun soaps. I have never made soap but always wanted to. Just an idea. Not sure if you have made one yet.

      Soap unless its melt n pour is not for the average crafter. It does take a bit more knowledge in making because of the use of Sodium Hydroxide or Lye. Now if you want easy and simple melt n pour is nice because the saponification process has already been completed and you dont have to add Lye. If someone tells you that their soap is lye free they are misinformed. If there is no lye theres no soap. But if its melt n pour they didnt need to use it because its already been used. I love making cold process soap.

      Exactly! I had a very good friend who was a master soap maker who was going to teach me how to make it, however she passed away this summer. I know a little, and have not done it yet because it is in investment in both time and money. I don't know if I want to invest in another hobby at this point. I am happy to support those who do make soap from scratch though because it really is a lovely thing! Thank you for the information.
