Homemade Sugar Scrub 5 ways ~ Gift In A Jar ~ How To Make Hand Scrub ~ Gift Ideas ~ Noreen's Kitchen

- Time for another gift in a jar, just in time for those holiday parties! This homemade sugar hand scrub is super easy to make and affordable! You can do a big batch of one fragrance or you can do individual scents. This can be scaled up or down to suit your needs and I know you are going to love it! Perfect for book club, mommy group, bible study group or any time you need a bunch of the same thing to give as a gift.
These are super easy to put together with only a few ingredients. Regular, granulated sugar, coconut or olive oil and essential oils and/or extracts. The rule is for every cup of sugar you will need 1/2 cup of oil. I used 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of oil. I ended up with five 1/2 cup jars worth of this scrub.
I only mixed the base of oil and sugar together then divided it into the jars. Then I "flavored" each jar differently. This is a great way to get a lot of gifts done at one time. So when you need to make things for a lot of people, this is the way to go! I used vanilla and chocolate extract as well as peppermint, orange and lemon essential oils to make all of my different types of scrubs. You are only limited by your imagination.
You can also combine scents. Such as chocolate/peppermint, eucalyptus/mint, lemon/lavender and full on citrus with orange/lemon. You can make what you like! These are great gifts for both women and men. Rick even suggested I use some of the specialty bacon extract and make some with that scent. Leave it to him to ask for bacon flavored sugar scrub! LOL!
I have designed a sheet of cute labels that you can print out and use for your sugar scrubs and more this holiday season. You can get them on my website at the link below!
I hope you give this sugar scrub a try and I hope you and the ones you make it for love it!
Happy Holidays!

Love these jars! Small sizes like this are great since they’re more likely to get used up than larger sizes. Just remember that, if giving these as gifts, you might also want to include instructions letting the receiver know to not introduce water into the scrub itself. Advise them to use a spoon to remove product from the jar instead of wet hands because the introduction of water into the scrub can cause mold growth since there is no preservative used. And mold can be present long before the green fuzzy stuff shows up.
Thank you for the info I see I have to do more research lol I fef will since I want to sell these.
Mmmm
How long do they last in the jars, meaning the expiration?
I've been wanting to make some of these for so long now. Thanks for this EASY to follow video. It's perfect for folks like me!!!
what would a person use for a preservative in these scrubs and then how long would they last ? i am looking to make something to subsidize my social security income but if i couldn't sell within 3 months than it would be a loss as i would have to toss it out. please help me. thank you in advance.
oh by the way gr8 video!
There is nothing you can use as a preservative. Even if you added vitamin E you would still only be able to have a three month shelf life. Honestly, this is not the way to make extra income.
@@noreenskitchenchannel THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY. HAVE A GR8 DAY :)
This is so sweet of you, what a very thoughtful gift. Thank you so very much! I hope you & your family have a Very Merry Christmas.
I Love..Love..Love Sugar Srubs..Thank you so much for your super easy recipes..Thanks for sharing..💕💕💕💕💕💕
Hi Noreen, I made these and gifted them and everyone loved them... Thank you! Have a Happy New Year along with your loved ones!
Where do you get the coconut oil and essential oils? Great idea!
I buy my coconut oil at Sams club. The essential oils from the health food store or Thrive Market.
Thanks Noreen I did some of these last year one was a brown sugar scrub felt amazing
Love this idea! Would love some lavender ones & lime zest for freshness. thank you, Noreen.
marie Savino please don’t add anything other than oil and extract. Other things can cause mold.
Must try this x

Hello Hru today? I have a question, how can I sell my body Scrubs I'm new to this and I want to have a small business im from NYC I have posted them on ig Facebook and offer up and I haven't been able go sell not even 1. I have only been able to sell 5 to a few co workers. What can I do to expand this small business.? Thank you for the info and video.
You have to consult cottage laws in your state. Otherwise you can face heavy fines. I do not sell mine.
Thank you Noreen. I will make these this year.
Thank you so much for sharing, love these💕
How Lovely*, THANKS Noreen❤🤗🎅
Love this
How awesome! I still make the aromatherapy Epsom salt you made years ago!

AWESOME !!!!! JUST LOVE THIS SIMPLE HOMEMADE SCRUB !! TY NOREEN N MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU N YOURS !!! HUGS FROM MICHIGAN !!!
I have made this as gifts in the past. And the girls loved them. And get request every year for more. So easy and so lovely on your skin. I’m going to make some with tallow this year instead of coconut oil.
Dang! I wish I had seen this yesterday! I have 15 gifts for co-workers to buy/make, and a limited budget. I went to the Dollar tree today and bought some pretty nice stuff, but these would have been SO much nicer!
thank you Noreen I am going to make some. Merry Christmas to you and your adoring Family. :)
Ooo thank you for this I'm gonna be making some as gifts this Christmas!! ❤❤
I like how the "vanilla" and the "chocolate" sugar scrubs are, technically, the only ones on this video, edible. Lol.
So u can use extracts from the grocery store and or essential oils?????? Thats wonderful.
What a wonderful idea Noreen. Heading to Sam's for coconut oil.
Hi how much vanilla and the storage shelf for these scrubs
doesnt everything smell like coconut because of the oil?
These are great thanks!
Thank a lot for this video I was waiting for a long time I want to keep it in my room thinks it's smell so good my friends also ask she want some
Thanks for being unselfish Aunt Noreen☺️
Wonderful video!! I love all the different scents.. so nice :)
You can do it all...amazing idea Noreen😊😊😊😊👏👏👏
CAN YOU USE CONOLA OIL NOT OLLIV OIL
Not really. Olive oil is beautiful, natural and nourishing to the skin. Canola oil is genetically modified poison. When you consider that your skin is your largest organ, I would not want you putting poison on it.
Thank you Noreen's Kitchen! I will give this a try for the up coming holidays
can you put food coloring in these
Not recommended
What do you use for coloring? Food coloring
Thanks, Noreen. I think I will make these with my granddaughter this year. Great instruction!
If your looking for a reasonable priced Vanilla smelling type Essential Oil Benzoin (Styrax benzoin) Resinoid Essential Oil is a recommended substitute. Amazon carries it in different sizes. Thanks for your tutorial, and Merry Christmas 😊
Linda Sisson you can check out wholesale supplies plus or rusdtic escentials, or leburmuth.
Love it..Thankyou!.
Will definately giv it a try.
How long do the products last? Especially if you make larger amounts. This is a great tutorial. I love homemade gifts. And this is something I can do with my granddaughter and her friends. Then they can give them as gifts.
You should not be making these in large amounts. They have a shelf life of 90 days.
Hello, I so loved seeing the scrubs you made. I do want to know where you got the small jars or mason jars from. May I also ask ,if you don't mind . I'm wanting to sale some what would you charge for that size? Thank you.
I buy the jars at Walmart. What you charge depends on what you spend on the materials and ingredients. I would charge no less than $10 per.
Great video thank you .you made that ez for me
Husbands....yea sometimes😂😂😂💖
Awesome DIY. Thank you. :))
Great viedo I'll try them
Wish I could smell those....
What is "No Editorial Excerpts without permission"?
It means that someone cannot use any part or the whole of my video, AKA my intellectual and creative property without my express, written permission for any purpose be it, in print, in a blog, in any digital format or to use a clip in a news broadcast without asking and getting my permission to do so. Otherwise I will sue them and the disclaimer states that by doing so without my permission you understand that you will face litigation. I was a paralegal for 11 years working with family, criminal and corporate law. Hope that helps you better understand.
@@noreenskitchenchannel I see. What about Fair Use? "Fair use is a legal doctrine that promotes freedom of expression by permitting the unlicensed use of copyright-protected works in certain circumstances. Section 107 of the Copyright Act provides the statutory framework for determining whether something is a fair use and identifies certain types of uses-such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research-as examples of activities that may qualify as fair use."
My disclaimer negates the "Fair Use" doctrine. My intellectual property is mine. If you take it and use it and get money from it then you are in violation. I have a program that finds when my videos have been stolen in whole or in part. Fair Use is not really what everyone thinks it is. I have a copyright on my videos. When you use a part of a television show, UA-cam will flag and remove your video because of the copyright violation. Fair Use does not apply to everything. In this case it does not apply to my intellectual and creative property because I own it and using it without my permission violates my copyright.
Why are you asking? Are you wanting to use my video without permission? Claiming the Fair Use doctrine is old news. I do not like having my videos poached. So if you want to use it for some purpose, please ask permission and intent and I will consider it. But I don't usually allow it.
@@noreenskitchenchannel I have no interest in taking anything from anyone. I am just curious about the phrasing as the grammar was very hard to follow. There is no reason for the hostility. I was curious about this phrasing as I make videos myself and own a website.
Can I use lemon from fresh lemons?
No. The acid fluctuations are to great. Bottled is consistent
Ok, thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly
Love this, can’t wait to make!
How long do these scrubs last at room temperature
Up to three months. Sugar is a natural preservative
Love it! Can’t wait to try 😍
how much would you recommend selling these small jars for?? $25?
Lol! Seriously? $25 is incredibly expensive. I recommend checking with your locality to see if you can sell them. Cottage goods have laws in many parts of the country and require permits to sell personal care and food items like this. That being said, You should not be selling these very small jars for more than twice what you paid for supplies. You will have to do some math.
Noreen's Kitchen I didn’t know that’s why I asked what you’d recommend
@@desiharts2 if your selling them on etsy or at a market I would say around $10-$14 but it depends on the size
How long it can be stored and can be used?
Up to three months.
Love it!. Thanku for that tip.
Can I use food colouring for that too?
Not recommended as it will stain the skin
@@noreenskitchenchannel you can use food colouring just in small amounts though
Thank you 💗💗💗
Love this idea!!
Lovely idea 🌹
Love this and ty.
does this need to be kept in the fridge?
No
can i do sugar scrub olive oil???
Yes! Olive Oil is a great alternate
🆒 🎄 🎈 🎀 🌈 ✨ 🎈 🎄
awesome !
What size jars are these?
4 ounce jars. Half cup size. They are half the size of a jelly jar.
+
Where do you get essential oils
A variety of places from the health food store to Walmart, the grocery store or online Amazon, Thrive Market and the Grove Collaborative.
Thank you so much Noreen😁
How long do they last before they go bad and how do you store?
Sammy 644 if you dont get water in them it could last for 6mo or longer. But if water is introduced and theres not a preservative in it they will go south quickly. If you want to add a preservative you can get it at bulkapothecary dot com for a really good price.
I had an inspiration while watching this video. I have a daughter, a sister and a cousin who have allergies and asthma. If I were to make these WITHOUT the vanilla or essential oils, they would at long last be able to use some of these nice, luxury skin care products without suffering from the scents in all the commercial products. Is there a flaw I'm not seeing in this idea? (I also plan to make scented ones for the rest of us!)
Yes! Unscented is great, I just made some using coconut sugar, and gave my (grown) daughter a sugar shrub followed by hot stone massage. She's allergic to crane sonar, so coconut was a better choice (and unscented)
Best unscented oil is grapeseed oil. It also has great skin benefits too.
Noreen, do you make soap? Maybe you could do a video on making some fun soaps. I have never made soap but always wanted to. Just an idea. Not sure if you have made one yet.
I don’t make soap
Soap unless its melt n pour is not for the average crafter. It does take a bit more knowledge in making because of the use of Sodium Hydroxide or Lye. Now if you want easy and simple melt n pour is nice because the saponification process has already been completed and you dont have to add Lye. If someone tells you that their soap is lye free they are misinformed. If there is no lye theres no soap. But if its melt n pour they didnt need to use it because its already been used. I love making cold process soap.
Exactly! I had a very good friend who was a master soap maker who was going to teach me how to make it, however she passed away this summer. I know a little, and have not done it yet because it is in investment in both time and money. I don't know if I want to invest in another hobby at this point. I am happy to support those who do make soap from scratch though because it really is a lovely thing! Thank you for the information.
