We're doing something different today and I'm super excited about it. I had a lot of fun doing this! Leave your ideas for filter ideas for future Ravelry Roulette! 🎰
And in case folks aren’t aware, the original sock monkeys were made in the 50’s from a particular pair of industrial type socks - Rockford Red Heel Socks
Count me in. Down the rabbit hole I went: One hour later of pattern browsing, find the designer Ron Schweitzer (fair isle), looking at his patterns, and if I could order a copy of out of print patter book, day dreaming of color combos, I finally got back to watching the video.
Such a fun idea! It would be fun to have an RNG KAL. I've been part of a "not famous designer, free pattern" KAL before. There are so many great patterns out there that we never hear about.
Filter by year? It would be kinda fun to see how the styles may have changed! Skill, type/category (like hat, sweater, blanket, etc.). Color theme. By season as to when you'd wear it. So many options!
This was such a fun video to watch! With so many patterns on Ravelry, it's tough to tell what's worth diving deeper into, especially when Rav seems to cater to newer patterns vs "better" patterns. Can I put a vote in for Tunisian crochet patterns? :-)
You sure can Toni. ❤️ I’m so glad you enjoyed it. And I completely agree with you about the hierarchy of patterns on Ravelry. We need to branch out from time to time. Thank you for watching! 🥰🥰🥰
How fun. That last hat was beautiful. So many possibilities. Maybe a shape would be fun. For example, triangle or heart. I'd be curious to see what kind of suggestions would show up.
This was super fun. What if you filtered by type of item? Hats, scarves, cowls, mitts, etc? Another fun one might be yardage filters to do sort of a "one skein" project roulette, where you pick the typical yardage for a yarn weight and see what can you do with just one skein.
It changed a little bit when you did the third because those 2 first patterns were uploaded in the time you did the video! I asked Ravelry for a random order sort YEARS ago, and when the figured out how to do it, years later, they tagged me. So, I like to think I’m entirely responsible. 😂
I could watch this all day. SO FUN!! Please make this a regular series. I would love to see random patterns exactly how you did it today except done by yarn weights. Or you could choose attributes like randomized lace, or random cable patterns.
Fun idea! Usually I'm buying patterns only to support designer I've already follow on social medias, so this kind of 'wandering' is very new concept for me.
Loved this idea! It's a great way to discover the lesser known designers and their patterns. Future filter ideas: hat / sock / mitten/ sweater / cowel patterns with fewer than 50 / 100 projects; ANY pattern with a single digit number of projects; patterns with an American state or Canadian province or Australian province in its name; patterns beginning with a particular letter of the alphabet; patterns posted in the year 20something.
Wow I love last one. I went down a super bulky hat rabbit hole very early this morning because I have left over yarn from my cardigan and I think it would be great for hats for my daughters... So on that note. I vote for a super bulky weight filter!
So fun! I think that Kim of Knit Together with Kim & Joanna has made the Chasing Rainbows hat or something quite similar. I loved this! Two things I do: 1) Random number decide what to knit next from my own queue and 2)look up a common location or name (Dakota or Penelope) and look at all the patterns with that name.
5:59 the download button is underneath the "save in favorites" and so on buttons roughly where on paid patterns the add to cart, buy now, and something else are
Loved this! ❤ every time you say cozy I laugh and remember that video with the “cozy counter” 😂 so let’s try random patterns with “cozy” as the keyword maybe?
What a fun idea! I visit the "hot right now" page on ravelry almost daily, so this is a nice change to see some totally different patterns :) No suggestions but I'm down for future roulette videos
I loved this and will be knitting the monkey hat for my grandbaby! I would just put in one word like sweater, mitten, scarf, hat, stuffed toy, etc. Then we'll be exploring a little deeper but looking at more similar things.
If you filter by yarn weight, you could also filter it to just one skein (or less) projects. Those are nice stash-busting projects for those of us who buy random skeins just because they're too pretty to pass by.
Love this format! If nothing else, it seems like an awesome way to both discover new designers and get out of one's style/technique comfort zones. Already bookmarked the gathered scarf for a future project. Another good roulette might be to limit to a small yardage of a particular fiber type & yarn weight to find some interesting projects for leftover yarn--after all, there's a limit to how many mug cozies and wristbands one needs...
This was fun‼️I’m 72, when I was small my cousins had stuffed sock monkeys. I don’t know if a family member knitted them or not. I secretly wanted one but never asked because I didn’t know what they were called
What a cute idea! First thing I thought was is -she is so clever and how does she think up so many ideas for her vlog?? I learned more about searching in Ralvery too
Oooh, this was fun! I loved seeing what random patterns pulled up! I liked hearing the off-the-cuff first impression and glad you looked at project photos. Maybe sometimes put in a yarn weight and see how that tilts the scale. Thanks for a great idea and sharing!
Really enjoyed this! Thank you, Tayler. For a filter you could chose a month (like for whatever month you post the next video) and see what patterns come up with that month mentioned in the name.
Yes please!!!! This was wonderfully fun AND I absolutely love how supportive you were of the designers. This could easily end up being an exercise in saying mean things about others. I am so grateful that you are always so positive and encouraging of others.
I have made this Gathered Scarf. It looks great, but it always folds into itself and never stays the full width. For that reason, I rarely wear it, and finally frogged it for good.
Such fun! I have to admit that i was at a fundraiser and found the most gorgeous hat…. I bid on it but ofc didn’t win but the Ravelry hunt was on! I did find it but as I’m learning and like you mentioned in the rainbow beanie, ply is totally important. I need to use ravelry’s yarn details to help me make better yarn subs. Maybe next time you could tell us which of your yarns might be a good sub?😊
I cannot believe #27 came up, I was just on this and just uploaded it to try this gathered look!! Okay....coincidence? ? ? Thanks, this was really fun to see used!
What about a seasonal search? So often we associate knitting with warm winter things, but (like your little black tee) sometimes I want a pretty summer item.
8:36 i can confirm this is a wonderful thing to do on ravelry!! don't filter by any other category, either; that's how you get some really neat stuff. i searched "goat" back when i didn't really know how to use the search functions on the site. i was looking for a plush pattern, but the OCEAN of goats and goat-themed items was a joy to swim through. plush baby goats, semi-realistic goats, upsettingly realistic goats, a realistic goat hat (iirc), so many different styles and techniques. so yeah! it might sound silly, but i think that could be some Fun Content!! a fruit like apple or banana might be used in the title because of the colorway of the yarn used; you'd definitely get some toys; maybe a tapestry or two?; and granny square(s) with that motif, probably!! animals could also be fun search terms. the word "plant" with no other filters and some rng would probably get a broad range of results. so all of this to say: i endorse this idea, lol !!
We're doing something different today and I'm super excited about it. I had a lot of fun doing this! Leave your ideas for filter ideas for future Ravelry Roulette! 🎰

How many of us rewatched this video and paused to catch details of other random patterns you were scrolling past? 😊
Count me in. Down the rabbit hole I went: One hour later of pattern browsing, find the designer Ron Schweitzer (fair isle), looking at his patterns, and if I could order a copy of out of print patter book, day dreaming of color combos, I finally got back to watching the video.
Stellar Burst! Saw it while she searched. Looks like a colorwork square hat, but actually a cowl. Doggone, I might make it a hat!!!
Maybe do an episode of random patterns of a particular item type. An episode of random blankets, an episode on cowls, socks, sweaters, shirts, etc.
Such a fun idea! It would be fun to have an RNG KAL. I've been part of a "not famous designer, free pattern" KAL before. There are so many great patterns out there that we never hear about.
I loved Ravelry Roulette! What a fun thing. Maybe filter by pattern type-Afghan, shirt, hat, etc. or by yarn weight.
Filter by year? It would be kinda fun to see how the styles may have changed! Skill, type/category (like hat, sweater, blanket, etc.). Color theme. By season as to when you'd wear it. So many options!

I was so excited because as you were scrolling through one of my design. Popped up! It was the Skandy Hat! ❤
I'm sure the designers of these three items are wondering why there has been a spike in their downloads...!
This was so much fun! I so wanted you to click on the chicken!😂
And now I want to organize a random knitting challenge with all my knitting friends!
This was super fun. What if you filtered by type of item? Hats, scarves, cowls, mitts, etc? Another fun one might be yardage filters to do sort of a "one skein" project roulette, where you pick the typical yardage for a yarn weight and see what can you do with just one skein.

I asked Ravelry for a random order sort YEARS ago, and when the figured out how to do it, years later, they tagged me. So, I like to think I’m entirely responsible. 😂
Shows how much is on Ravelry that we never look at.. The Chassing Rainbows hat is so cute!
Filtered by yarn weight would be a great idea for people that are stash busting.
This was so fun!
My suggestion for a random word is “inclusive”, with the intent of finding pattern makers who make size inclusive patterns.
You should make one of the items you found from the roulette as a part two video 😊
Filter by needle size, I bet you'd get some interesting results with 5mm as your only filter.
That was fun. It makes me want to pull up random searches for yarn in my stash that I've never, ever had ideas for.
The original sock monkeys were made from Rockford socks (noted for their red heels). My mom made me one when I was a kid. 💜
This was really fun. If you want to stay random with filters, you could use the random number picker for the category also.
Definitely make this a regular feature!
Wow
I love last one. I went down a super bulky hat rabbit hole very early this morning because I have left over yarn from my cardigan and I think it would be great for hats for my daughters... So on that note. I vote for a super bulky weight filter!
I enjoyed this! Maybe also try this for patterns in each yarn weight (lace, fingering, etc).
Loved this idea! Good way to get exposure to other pattern makers instead of the super popular ones.
Filter idea- meterage/yardage
This was great- would be a great way to get inspired when in a knitting “slump”
Filter on a season! Think spring!
This was so fun to watch!!
What a fun video!
I say look up peach or peaches
Peach fuzz is the pantone colour of the year
You should do a kal for the rainbow hat. That would be so much fun!! 🥰 …and support the designer 😉
5:59 the download button is underneath the "save in favorites" and so on buttons roughly where on paid patterns the add to cart, buy now, and something else are
So fun! Filter ideas "animals," "plants," or "seasons"
Loved this! ❤ every time you say cozy I laugh and remember that video with the “cozy counter” 😂 so let’s try random patterns with “cozy” as the keyword maybe?
I also like the keyword search idea.
😂 was gonna suggest the exact same thing!
How fun!!! I would filter by pattern type. Example: socks, beanies, etc. I’m going to try this search!!
Fun idea! How about emotions like moody or happy? Or naturey words like sunset, forrest or bloom.
This was so much fun! I’m going to make at least one of those. Probably the hat. Love it with Malabrigo Rasta
What a really cool video concept! I'm excited for more episodes
waittttt I spotted my pattern on your hot right now 😱 it wasn‘t on mine 😂
very fun episode! 🎉
Oooo cool! ✨
Definitely a fun video. It is nice to see items we might not have searched.
Categories, colors, construction (cables, lace, top down, raglan, ribbing etc), weight, experience level, or specific yarns
What a fun idea! I visit the "hot right now" page on ravelry almost daily, so this is a nice change to see some totally different patterns :) No suggestions but I'm down for future roulette videos
love this concept! maybe typing in seasons would be a fun experiment
I would love to see 3 random patterns in 3 different yarn weights. Ex 1 fingering, 1 worsted, 1 bulky. Very fun video!! Thanks
Yes! Fantastic idea!
I loved this and will be knitting the monkey hat for my grandbaby! I would just put in one word like sweater, mitten, scarf, hat, stuffed toy, etc. Then we'll be exploring a little deeper but looking at more similar things.
Very fun! Would love to try this with sweater patterns 🙂
That was fun. Would love to see specific items. Colorwork sweaters or even just colorwork as a filter. Summer tees, socks. Etc.
That was great fun! You should do this on a regular basis, just 3 is perfect. I liked all the randoms you got today.
Love this video! Would love to see it by category....clothing, accessories, etc. Or even filter further....sweaters, legs/feet, hands, etc
Fun! Fun! Fun!!!! random is perfect....or by type of projet: garments, accessories, etc.
I never use Ravelry, but I will be now. This was really fun.
I have fun every time you post a video. Maybe filter with a season or a month.
I’d love to see random goth patterns!
Omg yes. 🖤
Love this format! I've already downloaded the Gathered Scarf pattern and added it to my knitting plans. Love the idea of modifying it to a cowl, too.
Ooo single skein roulette?
If you filter by yarn weight, you could also filter it to just one skein (or less) projects. Those are nice stash-busting projects for those of us who buy random skeins just because they're too pretty to pass by.
I feel called out
@@neea8807LOL. Not only do I buy random skeins, I spin them. So much yarn, so little time.
So much fun Tayler😍 I just bought the chasing Rainbows Beanie pattern, this could get expensive 😂
Considering how many knitted thong patterns I’ve seen on Ravelry, maybe not use the word “banana.”
So fun!! I hope you'll do more of these!
Thanks. That was really fun. Do it again. I like pullover sweaters, but happy to see it all.
I thought this was really fun, Taylor. I enjoyed and would like to see again.
Oh my gosh it was so much fun. Need to do again...

What a cute idea! First thing I thought was is -she is so clever and how does she think up so many ideas for her vlog?? I learned more about searching in Ralvery too
Oh this was fun! Maybe filter next time by gender/age? or clothes v's homeware? Lots of possibilities....
I would love to see more ravelry roulette. Filter - squishy!
I love that filter idea! ❤️
I suggest knitting/crochet patterns by country, such as Ireland, Norway etc
Oooh, this was fun! I loved seeing what random patterns pulled up! I liked hearing the off-the-cuff first impression and glad you looked at project photos. Maybe sometimes put in a yarn weight and see how that tilts the scale. Thanks for a great idea and sharing!
Really enjoyed this! Thank you, Tayler. For a filter you could chose a month (like for whatever month you post the next video) and see what patterns come up with that month mentioned in the name.
Definitely something fun to watch while I wait for teenage to finish school.
Yes please!!!! This was wonderfully fun AND I absolutely love how supportive you were of the designers. This could easily end up being an exercise in saying mean things about others. I am so grateful that you are always so positive and encouraging of others.
I’m in for the banana filter 😃
I don’t know how to filter, I just know I am enjoying this process.
Fun! Loved the video. Maybe a yarn weight. I’m all about DK right now.
I have made this Gathered Scarf. It looks great, but it always folds into itself and never stays the full width. For that reason, I rarely wear it, and finally frogged it for good.
What fun. Let’s play more. How about color work for a filter 💕
I'm In...keep spinning the wheel and select filters...sure type in "bananas", I would love to see what pops up.
There’s that chicken again 😂😂
Such fun! I have to admit that i was at a fundraiser and found the most gorgeous hat…. I bid on it but ofc didn’t win but the Ravelry hunt was on! Love this idea, Taylor! Maybe 'Tees' ? Spring is a'comin'. 😉🌷
fun! I tried it and came up with Y Knot Mitts by Carol Price - cute fingerless mitts w cable pattern
I LOVE this! What a fun series idea!
That was fun!!
Love this video! Such a fun and interesting idea 😊
I just started the Gathered Scarf last week! How weird is that?
So fun! Great way to discover hidden gems patterns! 😊
I cannot believe #27 came up, I was just on this and just uploaded it to try this gathered look!! Okay....coincidence? ? ? Thanks, this was really fun to see used!
Very enjoyable and interesting, thank you!
Cool idea! I’ll be looking for more! Filter with an animal maybe…
This was great...YES let's do this more 😊
What about a seasonal search? So often we associate knitting with warm winter things, but (like your little black tee) sometimes I want a pretty summer item.

so all of this to say: i endorse this idea, lol !!
Very fun. I don't use Ravelry a lot. So I like learning by watching you move around on the computer.
Great idea.
I think it’s a great way to se something different than the first few pages.
Please continue with the roulette 🌷
