I admit and I am a Sony fanboy since the original PlayStation. But I believe that they are forgetting the small companies that helped them out in the first place. In my opinion what needs to happen is a total restructuring and get people who are responsible for things like the Vita store, etc actually do their job instead of just coasting by. Like any company, they need our money, money talks and BS walks but when Sony realizes what they are doing , it’s going to be too late for them. They need to recognize these smaller companies and actually extend an olive branch for them to develop for their consoles instead of the competition. I hope eventually soon Sony sees the value of the Vita still has and allow continuation for people to develop and put out games on the platform. We can dream though, can’t we?

Yeah, there's only so much you can say to defend them, but this is one step too far. Still, what do you expect from a company which puts money before the fanbase, thanks to the new CEO

The type of treatment Vita receives comes from the top. Sony long ago decided that it didn’t like it’s own platform. If somebody tried to do something for it, I’m sure it was met with derision if not punishment. After a while, any plea or question would just be ignored. The 3% number is only them trying to justify a decision made long ago. If only Sony decided back then to back their own product instead of treated it like the red headed step child. (Apologies to the redheads, like me).

I'm still in-awe of Freedom Wars still having an online mp coop till this day (as of this post) I wish the pvp were also alive in this game as well, but it's mostly just the mp coop now which is still fun and such a grind.
How active is it?
@@PSVitaat2am it's spoaradically has players on weekdays around morning at 6am and around 12-3pm afternoon. I'm from the Philippines so the timezone is 8:00+ here if you want to know when other players show up in your timezone. Weekends? Not so much BUT I have had a couple of run-ins with fellow players in my country during night hours.
You can also friend players too, that way you can keep track when you guys are online.
Why cant these company's learn from history? Its always the same thing, Company gets ahead of competition , Gets massive ego, Gets knocked back down to size, Rinse repeat.
In the case of EA they never lost that ego lol

It sounds like Sony is going to drive all of its indie developers into the arms of its competitors aka Microsoft, Nintendo and Steam. If they don't change their course of actions.

Clearly, Sony gave up on their little handheld.
It started when they saw less than stellar sales from units and 1st party games. It became evident when they kept predicting that mobile phone gaming will overtake the market. They thought they could repair the damage with the PSTV but they F-ed that up as well. Then they went full-force supporting the PS4 and PSVR to hopefully make up for the lost revenue of the PS Vita, which finally led them to only have a skeleton crew to provide worthless updates and do just enough to keep the store up and running.
My conjecture is that the Vita could have been more successful if they had only believed in it and kept in touch with the community.

Looking at their overall treatment of the Vita, as well as their general technical incompetence when it comes to the store, none of this comes as a surprise.
I was pretty glad when the Switch began to get a lot of third party/indie/weeb game support, because Nintendo is where my heart has always been and it makes it that much easier for me to drop Sony entirely if this trend continues.

Online-Only is one of the biggest cursed anti-consumer business practices of the entire gaming industry. We have so many games across all platforms that would sell really well if only they had working Single Player Offline modes.
As for the Vita, the fact that I'm playing Phantasy Star Nova on it right now (in Japanese because it never got localized in English) is proof of what I said above. It sucks to have bought PSO2 for Vita only to find yourself unable to play it anymore because the platform is dead while the game itself is still going really well on PC. Another game I really enjoyed, Freedom Wars, never got its due spotlight because of all the shenanigans that kept the devs from finishing the full game thus having to cut content, and prevented them from making a worthy sequel.
God Eater for the Vita was also a nightmare to buy locally, because the online store pushed the notion that each localization has to have their own localization of DLCs (leading to the publishers not wanting to spend money on making DLCs available on all versions). An example would be how the English Asia release of the game didn't accept DLC purchased for the English USA version and vice versa when both are plain English versions.
Nowadays, it's all just games like Anthem, Outriders, Godfall, and all these other games that you seem to pay for in full and increasing prices but never really get to own. And these platforms push them as mainstream titles like they're the cream of the crop of the gaming industry, when they're all just there to subconsciously condition consumers into accepting more and more of such anti-consumer practices. It then becomes a battle of exclusivity vs availability but people will always be people and spend hard-earned cash on a console they only bought for one or two exclusive titles.
It's just sad how these companies are devolving worse and worse on the morality side of running a business. It feels like they were given the choice to do good and profit well or do bad and profit a bit more in exchange for harming the industry and the customers, and they didn't think twice in choosing the latter option.

Kids, get either *Freedom Wars* or *Toukiden 2* . They both play similar, tho FW is a MP Action akin to God Eater, while Toukiden is like MonsterHunter but with open world and campaign; also online coop.

I feel this article was primarily about the PS4 store and indies on PS4, as opposed to Vita. Since Vita devs largely moved on to Switch and now that new games can't be submitted, all of em are there. Granted, Nintendo has been better for these devs than either PlayStation platform.
Fair enough. I felt that since this seems to have all surfaced after the whole Sony deadline thing it was connected in some way.
Instead of the gimmicky as VR all they had to do was re-realise a new iteration of the ps vita with a standard sd card port maybe a 4g and perhaps a type-c connects and call it the 4000 model. That's literally the only thing they had to along with continued support for the system then watch how sales would have jumped.
There is a big difference between paying an extra $100 for $64gb card vs around maybe $25/30 for the same amount of storage.
I agree 100 percent Ezell. Sony could still fix things if they wanted to, and so easily as well.
@@PSVitaat2am 2 ways to revive the vita without actual releasing a newer model is making a update that allows the vita to use Google play, there are a ton of decent games on it or have an update that allow you to play console games via playstation now.
All game companies started from making indie games before going big. I tend to download and play tons of japanese indie games before that independent game circles release during summer and winter comikets and they're more fun and engaging than most of todays AAA games with nothing to boast other than their fancy graphics.

Where I am the psvita games are so rare and sometimes most of it are visual novels (not that they're bad but you'll get frustrated if you something more action-packed). It just shows not enough physical was distributed and thus ended up making some games lose popularity like Freedom Wars.
Speaking of FW, seeing that citizen shoot an abductor with it's shield up stirs my blood.

Not really. The Japanese got inflated ego's with the ps1 and 2 being the most popular systems an the ps3 suffered for it. Now PlayStation is based in California and they have not learned from history and have inflated ego's because how well the ps4/5 did/is doing.
Move was the worst idea in my opinion.
Freedom Wars was and is such a good and very underrated game. I started it 2 weeks ago and I can't stop playing it. Wish so much they would have made a sequel. I would buy it in a second.

All of this is totally true. You know how hard it is to find any games on ps stores? all i can find is FUCK ALL! For SONY blocking the viewers of the "old" ps store specifically says everything about the company. They're only concentrating on ps4-ps5. This has become completely clear.

Well, this is depressing. Especially given the impending closure of PS Video, it seems that Sony seriously doesn't care about money from games and services they're not currently supporting. Even the PS Video app, which should be active until the end of August, has been altered, so that it kicks you from the app, as you sign in. I really hope Xbox leaps in sales and customer support this generation, to pull Sony back into line.

The reason competition is so important. If xbox wasn't around sony would be left unchecked and our gaming experience would be much worse by now. They're on a power trip. Even with old customer like us giving up on them they have plenty of new ones to not notice tbeke mistakes yet. Eventually they'll catch on and adapt

Ik I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but I personally view most indie games as shovelware for the modern age .
Very few of them turn out to be standouts and a lot of them especially on the vita turn out to be really low grade 2D platformers.
It's unfortunate that these devs don't get enough say in how they manage their games especially when steam has seen such great success with it and constantly promoting new indie games. but I think it's understandable and Sony's eyes that they can't just keep advertising another pixel art shooter on vita every time it comes out.
I mean there's so many visual novels on the vita and I don't think it's worth their time. I'm sure they could do what steam does if they wanted to but they're probably afraid of looking like the switch and constantly pushing out shovelware on the front page that gets boosted whenever it goes on sale...
Theres indeed that, the switch has this problem but indies are still happy, its weird a bit.
I see it the same way coming from the WiiU, it degraded to a tripple CCC "Nindie" platform since 2017.

I feel like "Platform X"'s most consistent trait is that they don't ever learn from their history.
Wild, weird indie-style games and Japanese titles are what *built* PlayStation as a brand, made it stand out, and extends the lifetime of all of their platforms, often nearly a decade after their launch.
There's a reason why both the games and players traditionally associated with PlayStation are moving en masse to Switch and PC >:V

As a person who bought a Vita a few months in refurbished, I had a modicum of hope that this would not be the fate of the Vita. Welp, at least I still have my Wii U...I should check out what's going on there too!

You can still save the vita sony. Try to form a community with vita owners work with indie developers and reopen production. But hey that's something any sane person would do.

If PX hates indies so much how is Blue box getting a push. I think only hearing from one side and a couple devs is really unbalanced. Maybe their games don’t sell on Px because it has a different audience. There could be multiple factors.

Sony is definitely to blame. They refuse to support their own platform and then when it dies they act like they weren't at fault at all and blame it on the age of mobile gaming. Looking at the success of the PSP, the PS Vita could have at least been as successful as the PSP if they actually supported it. What with the potential of a more powerful hardware. But they didn't bother to support the Vita like they supported the PSP and that is why the PS Vita's potential was never fully realized. Couple with the fact that they didn't learn from some of the flaws of the PSP like the expensive proprietary memory cards. Even looking at the PS Vita store's design and UI really shows the lack of effort in supporting the Vita.
Sad things have to be like this. :(

The description of the games is also awful in the Vita store. Many times I had to Google to see what a game is about. In contrast in Steam you can have a guess if that game will be interesting.

I love Sony systems a lot. Sony's great at what they do. But what I hate is that in their eyes it seems like "only the strong survive". So they want to be on top, but don't think they need help to do so.

The fact is that Sony has ps5 ps4 and psvr that they are pushing. The fact is also that they have to wade through many dev questions and concerns on a daily basis. They are going to prioritize ps5 then ps4 then psvr. They will also prioritize first party devs then second party devs then third party devs then indie devs. Indie vita devs are the last on the priority list. They are being nice just by keeping the store open for the vita. Yeah it is a good console but the fact is that not many people even own it and it’s not a current system. Hopefully they will try again in the handheld market but the vita is essentially no better than the ps3 to Sony. Two generations old. I don’t believe Sony is completely out of the handheld market. I believe they will eventually go back into the market. When is another story

Many indie devs are already making the move to Switch & Steam. Xbox also supports a curated catalog of indies with its fine ID@Xbox program. When you factor in itch, gog, epic, PS5 may currently be in 7th place as an indie platform.

Ok they NEED to update the new releases tab with ALL new releases that gets the more sales idk why they don’t do that. Also out of human decency you need to not change the data you close your stores and give at least a years notice to ALL developers working for your platform your doing so so ya. Other than that if ps vita is only 3% of your sales I can’t blame you for not doing more than I listed.
I figure the Vita store could possibly net them more money if they managed it better. Seems like a situation where they're creating the outcome of their justification for not bothering with it much.

Sony is focusing on the mainstream and guaranteed and not the new and creative that's why they are giving unlimited support to their western studios on the other hand Japan Studio was shut down because their stuff wanted to make the usual weird and cool games but Sony was limiting the staff creativity!

First of all, I actually like the SpongeBob game on Vita. It isn't terrible if you're looking for something simple that you don't have to focus on too much. It's a great game to play one level at a time in (I wouldn't recommend binging the whole thing). Next, Indies do have their place. One of the greatest games of 2020 was Hades (an indie game). I can honestly say that some Indie games went beyond their 2D limitations in one way or another. Fez, Salt and Sanctuary, Lone Survivor, Home, Red Bow, Machinarium, and many others did this and were great at it.

Doesn't surprise me with Sony. Their attitude shift in the past few years has been something else. They are so big headed and full of themselves. Will they change? Well, how easy is it to find a PS5? As long as they're still making money hand over fist I doubt they care or will change. Maybe if enough devs drop them

It really makes more sense to publish in steam if you want to make it as an indie dev. It will have its own portable device which technically is better than the vita in specs. My question is why would small devs continue to publish in the Vita?

Looks like a pretty bad situation with Sony. When game developers get angry too. Developers need money through selling both old and new games as well. when they are then able to develop new ones. And sony is now behaving ugly to developers.

Read this article before weeks ago and yeah it was sad to read but makes sense why it happens. It is no surprise that they supported Indies with those staff in place then that cared about Indies just to have the higher ups or swapped staff give up and only count bigger Indies not smaller because bigger conpanies are the only ones that count not building up small ones or letting them get enough of a way on the store because of stupid obstacles and money limits that can't be reached as easily. For a platform they leave behind like the Vita sure but even if for the PS5 or PS4 it must suck. People know about big games every which way not small so continuing to support the big always disappoints me as I'll hear about them regardless of if I care about them.

that Vita store is trash. No screenshots anymore, you're basically fed the same list of games unless you actively search for something or browse by genre/letter range....
I don't have a need for a handheld so the first time I turned mine on in years was when they originally said the store would be closing. Figured I best pick up a few games just to have and I was shocked at just how little changed on the Vita store. The games listed were basically all the same games listed several years prior when I last looked.... While browsing if there was something that caught my eye, sorry, no screenshots... I know Sony gave up on the Vita about 2 years after it launched but it's evident the Vita and it's store were left in a state of neglect the past 4+ years.
side note: Can we just get Sony to make another million PSTVs so I can play my Vita on the big screen and enjoy some of these games Lol. I still kick myself for not just buying one. I try to use the Vita once in a while but I just can't game on that little OLED while holding a brick and pushing those toddler sized buttons and analog stick. I'd love to play Ys VII and Persona 4 Golden along with some other games.
