FALL CHINOOK SALMON FISHING - 10LBS LEADER FAILED ME TWICE

- I went out after the rain to fish for chinook king salmon. Lots of fish were caught, some decent, some really nice...good time of the river as always. Bobber set up with cured eggs was what we used to catch them. I lost two big fish to 10 lbs test leader line, silly me for using light line when fishing for big king. Good luck out there people!!
Tell that dude to keep his hand off the middle of the rod. That’s how you break rods.
Nice work Vu.
10lb test and fall chinook dont even belong in the same sentence.... anything under 25 your asking too get broke off
I agree. They are strong in the current
I like 10lb mainline with 12lb leader. Works every time the hook set is good.
I Catch Chinook with 15lb leader pline copolymer. Started out using 10lb had some success but too many broke off for my liking but it can be done in the right conditions.
I use 12lbs test Floral carbon and I never have issues.
Lol I landed a jack the other day on 10lb leader. It bit my steelhead jig. Of course my centerpin rod allows me to catch bigger fish on lighter line but I'd agree that 10lb is a little light for salmon
12 pound leader is my go too for chinook. Just enough strength for the big guys if you play them right and easy to horse in the little guys quick and aimple
I feel a lot more confident with 12lb leader as well
When you tighten the drag I knew it will break soon
Haha yeah 😬 😅 I should have just let it run
Adorable dogo
Thank you. She loves to go fishing too
That's a lot of actions brother...👍😁💓👍....love it...
Glad you enjoyed
I rarely use less than 15# fluoro leaders even on 10# braid. The mainline knot has a lot to do with too. The fg knot is the best I’ve found because my old knot used to cut fluoro with the small diameter braid. I rarely have a main line knot fail. I have had the knot break on 14% fluoro before the mainline 10# braid broke.
Nice. I’ve been using 15lbs test lately and it seems to work out better 😀
Goodjob Vu you guys had an awesome day on the notellum river at milepost 23😂
Kings aren't line shy at all. 20 lb. test leader and 30 lb. braid mainline get the job done without tying up the hole... babying a fish.
Good idea 👍
I just got done fishing Huntzinger pier on top of Wanapum Dam on Saturday, the last 12 days in a row of the season for Kings using fresh eggs ( cured) under bobbers. I landed 16 fish with 2 that broke my 12# test flouro leader. 20 + lb fish. #1/0 egg loop knots double hook rig with 3oz. Of lead under a 2 Oz. Bobber. 10.6 ft Okuma rod with a long casting spin reel. Long casts. Cure ? 50% Strawberry jello e/sugar and 50% borax. Of my 16 fish, 3 were hens. Good luck next year.
I haven’t been up there yet but sounds like you had a great season. Good job catching them 👍
How deep do you usually find em
Damn I wish I went Sunday 😂 she got that huge chrome lol! I have the footage of the cops talking to us, I’ll upload it soon 🐟🔥 nice to see Scott on here again.
Oh lol…they were just doing their jobs. No big deal 👍
@@fishingwithvu indeed, it was a good day
Vu keeps murdering fish cops looking for him
😆
Ive landed 18lb kings on 8lb test you just gotta have the drag perfect
Nice lol. Challenge accepted 🤣
Actually 8lb test? I don’t think I can do it 😂 you got skills haha 👍
@@fishingwithvu haha 8 is definitely pushing it but needed for finicky fish. it’s 100% doable if the area you’re fishing allows you to let the fish tire out… anddd you might have to do a lot of chasing 😂
I will say that I’ve had kings run almost a football field away before I could get them to turn
Man, that sounds like an epic fight. I need to master 10lb test first 😬
50LB mainline and 30LB floro leader😂 u guys are going to loose so many fish playing around with that line
Haha yeah. Learned it the hard way this year. Don’t use 10 for fall chinook 😅😂
You crazy for using 10lbs for fall nook lol.
It’s fun lol but risky…I probably won’t do that again 🤣😅
@fishingwithvu lol meanwhile i use 20/25lbs to help pull them out of snaggy areas if needed. 🤣
Haha yes. Sometime they like to hide under trees
Is this the Oregon coast?
Where is this spot if you don’t mind me asking ?
Oregon coast river.
12lb min and 20lb leaders when I’m chasing kings depending on the area.
Where’s that at?
You have braided line as your main line?
Yes. 20lb braided line
How deep is ur bobber stopper
6-8ft
is this the necanicum
Definately the notellum river at milepost 23
