Nice fish Pal. Good on you. Very proud of you. It will be plain sailing from now on. It is good to change up the way you do things and use different stuff even if the tried and true things still work. I spent 12 yrs in Coastal Oregon and loved the fishing so much. Although I don't live in the States anymore I had a wonderful time fishing with friends and learning the way they go things over there. Many memories made to last a life time. The memory of that first Spring Chinook will last you forever.. Well done. Personally I liked the couple of Spinglows tipped with eggs, sitting on a chair drinking hot coffee and bullshitting with my friends.. Plunking If i have that right... I also watch Angling Addicts Pacific Northwest, because he gets around and fishes some places I used to fish, Makes me feel like I am back there,..
Nothing tastes better than fresh Springer! Congrats. My first Springer was on the Clack in 99. I remember it like yesterday. Drag adjustments have been covered. I just wanted to let you know that grabbing the rod above the grip while fighting a fish creates a fulcrum on the rod. You will break a rod if you continue to high stick it like that.
Saweeeeeet!!!!!! Congratulations on that chrome. However, I wince every time you tighten your drag. Good job landing w/o a net. Listening to your breathing and seeing white knuckles holding that rod is an awesome taste of what anglers live for. ADRENALINE
Luv the vid. For some reason, solo success equates to a bigger adrenaline thrill that's indescribable. I once hooked a 16pound striped bass solo that went air born 3 feet, at the the ump-qua/smith fork. I was 16 years old, did my own looking around with no help or advise, This was back in the late 1970's. Remember the thrill shock like it was yesterday.
I caught one springer in the Clackamas in OR that was a 25 lber. Same experience, it felt like a snag on the bottom at first. We were working the various holes in a boat. Like you, it was a big battle for about 20 minutes. Congrts on your catch. I kept mine also, very good eating.
I relate to these videos of you catching your first steelhead/salmon cause I did it the same way. Put in hours/days of fishing for my first salmon/steelhead and when you get one on your own gear and by yourself it’s so rewarding.
By far my favorite fishing experience has been chasing these fish on my own and learning how to catch them! It is very rewarding when you finally do hook up
hell yeah man congrats i havent got out for any salmon fishing this year awesome to see u get on your first one! hopefully my car will be off jack stands soon and i can get back out there more
Awsome! My first springer was wild! Very privileged to release it, an amazing fish. My first chinnok was a fall wild, 45lbs took forever to land by myself!
Hello from Alaska. In my many decades here I have just now started to use bait for river fishing. I usually use a fly rod for all my river and lake fishing. (Imagine catching that chinook or bigger on a fly rod.) Anyway, this was an excellent video and a beautiful fish. Thank you for posting this video. Recipe suggestion: I make fish and chips using cod, halibut and/or salmon (chinook, coho or sockeye). I prefer salmon this way over other methods of cooking it (unless I’m making a dip). I recently started using a batter from a UA-cam video: Binging with Babish: Fish Fingers & Custard. However, I use a dark ale instead of the light lager. For me is seems to work better with the salmon. It may not be the healthiest but it sure tastes good and is worth trying at least once.
Wow, really glad I stumbled across this video! I used to fish all the time, never caught one :( I put in a lot of time and burned a lot of fuel driving all over our state. Really glad to see you be successful.
Lived in Forks Washington for 3years. Would fish with ones that lived there all there lives and said that the kings like deep slow moving water. Great fish!
Awesome fish bro! Had me on the edge of my seat the entire fight with that drag being a little tighter than I personally fight kings with! What a great fish🤙
That was an incredible fight! I just caught my first springer this year as well. By far my favorite salmon video I’ve watched especially since there’s so little bank fishing videos. Can only hope I can catch one that big one day. Can’t wait for some more vids!
Hell yeah good work! Just a little advice, when the fish goes on a run and is rippin line, I try to let it go. If you tighten the drag or grab your spool to keep it from doing that, your chances of a fish like that braking you off go up ten fold. BUT, it didn’t! So good work and one hell of a springer!
As far as cooking, I’ve only been salmon fishing for 2 years since I moved here but I love it on the smoker or a quick bbq (smoke the collars they are delicious) covered in your favorite seasoning. Most people go lite but, I love the teriyaki style with spicy soy sauce as a brine. I will grill 2-4 pieces all different flavors to figure out what ya like best or to have variety 😋 you’ll be eating well! Food savor them and date em up 😎
Nice fish! Making me hungry! Love catching chinook I live in PA different kinda fishing out here I go to Lake Ontario still fun! Good job! Try looking up salmon candy, candied salmon. 🤤
Beautiful fish! As you probably know salmon is super rich, I smoke mine with brown sugar & sea salt. I also live on the siletz River part time. Can’t wait to get one my own!
an easy good receipt for spring salmon is spread mayo on top of it,sprinkle dii on it,lemon pepper, garlic salt.the mayo melds well with the fat in the salmon its a favorite of mine.
shallots garlic and lemon mixed with some mayo and dill, slather that on top and cook on the grill until cooked, if you like capers they go really well with it too
Nice fish man. I got one just downstream of that spot Memorial Day weekend, so they are there. That spot always has drift boats moving through it, usually they are pretty nice if you’re there first. As far as recipes, lemon, lemon pepper, onion and garlic are always are good. Sometimes I make a glaze with lemon juice, mayo, horseradish, minced garlic, touch of soy sauce and lemon pepper and sliced onions on top, then bake it.
They should be nice regardless. Especially if they are in a hole that has bank access, when the whole point of a boat is to get to no bank access areas
@@skatinonbilletsk5750 Some people in boats honestly have no clue about etiquette. Earlier this year, same river, I was steelhead fishing and a raft was anchored at the top of a hole I went to fish so I walked downstream about 50 yards to the top of the tailout where I knew there was a slot they like to hold in on the far side of the river. Not even ten minutes after I started fishing the raft pulled anchor and floated down to where I was. First on the way down they started long lining down across where I was fishing. I didn't say anything and figured I would just let them be rude and pass on through but to my amazement they stopped and dropped anchor in the exact area I was casting to start my drift. I looked at them and said "Really, You didn't see me casting and fishing there. You anchored right where the fish hold." of course the girl in the boat was the first to get lippy and tell me I didn't own the river and I couldn't tell them what to do. Naturally, all sh*t broke loose after that and basically ended up with me threatening to meet them at the takeout which was only a half mile or so downstream. The guy running the raft picked up and moved on with out ever saying a word while the guy and girl in front kept running their mouths. True to my word, I met them at put in/take out where they never said a word as they floated on by.
Man what a beautiful fish. Way to grind one out. I would echo some of the other comments here about not tightening the drag and letting the fish run. That’s how you break off more times than not. Glad for you this time was a not. Killer fish and great job!
Good advice. The only other thing I would add is do not point the rod at the fish. Keep it at an angle so it can flex and absorb some of the shock the fish is creating.
Congrats! I'm pretty sure you are on my home river. If you want a seat in my drift boat (mayish) 2023. Let me know. I almost always have a seat open. Tight lines bud!
I never caught or fished for A salmon before but I've been doing A lot of trout fishing and been doing really good so far but my goal Is to catch A few salmon this year.. But you should definitely marinade some in brown sugar/salt and smoked paprika and put it on any smoker or pellet grill for several hours and cold smoke at like 150/160F.. It's straight fire
I've caught a lot of springers and I have never been as calm as this guy! 😂.. nice first fish.
For catching that fishing you win a new follower!!! Great job!!🎉
First spring salmon and it's a BEAST!🤣🤣 Nice fish, man!
Thanks man!!

That was a phenomenal fight! Awesome watch!
This is a huge inspiration for me since I am trying to catch my first chinook. Lucky for you, you have 2 seasons to fish for those beauties.
Congratulations!🎉👍🎣
WooHoo! Great fish and video.

Nice work bro 🤙
Awesome! Congrats man, you got yourself a new sub!
Thank you so much!
There is a whole down below that bridge on the corner that holds way more fish. That's my favorite river and area to fish.
In the late 70s I would fish the Wilson,Clackamas and Nehalem rivers and Barview Jetty in Tillamook bay.
an easy good receipt for spring salmon is spread mayo on top of it,sprinkle dii on it,lemon pepper, garlic salt.the mayo melds well with the fat in the salmon its a favorite of mine.
Great job 4 afirst timer
Awesome catch! Never caught a salmon or steelhead. Subbed
Awesome
shallots garlic and lemon mixed with some mayo and dill, slather that on top and cook on the grill until cooked, if you like capers they go really well with it too
Congrats man! My first king on eggs/shrimp was wild as well.

That's awesome! Definitely seems like the run is getting good. I usually use lemon but haven't tried garlic yet, I'll give it a try!

Nice fish dude! Surprised there was no one in that spot. It’s a pretty good one.
can you just say what river? Never spring fished before
Good job on that king brother good for you enjoy that ocean red meat
I love that spot heading out to fish it
Good luck out there!

Man I have to.ask .... WHAT REEL ARE YOU USING? THATS GOT SOME DAMN GOOD BEARINGS .. DONT SAY ITS A STRADIC
