      @@erikkemeey9144 the suitcase is never explicitly stated to be Ben’s. Just because it has the initials doesn’t mean anything unless the film explicitly states it is Ben’s. You can’t use knowledge from outside source material to justify stuff in a movie. There is no mention of it being Ben’s in the movie. As far as the audience is aware the letters BFP on the suitcase could be the brand of suitcase or the name of the suitcase company that mass produces it.
      Once again, just because you know in the comics that Peter has an Uncle named Ben doesn’t mean it is the case for the MCU because they haven’t explicitly confirmed he exists. And the quote from Peter in Homecoming about “Everything May’s been through” doesn’t count because he never elaborates further. For all we know, she could’ve lost her job, her sister could’ve died, their previous home may have burned down, she may have recently been diagnosed with a disease that is very unlikely to survive, she may have recently gotten divorced, she may have failed at a dream she wanted to accomplish; because Peter refuses to elaborate we can’t know for certain.
      Once again, you can’t use your knowledge of these comic characters in other mediums to justify stuff in your argument for a movie.

    The Marc Webb movies were awesome too! I agree the Raimi ones are the best.....although the portrayal of Peter Parker as unwilling mentor in Into the Spiderverse also was great. The only bad version of Spider-man is the MCU one. I do think Tom Holland COULD be a great Spider-man. It's the fault of the writing and directing, not the actor.

  • @HatiHro
    @HatiHro 2 роки тому +79

    I think the best thing that shows why the MCU Spider-Man only feels like Spider-Man on the surface level is the episode where The Rhino is introduced in Spectacular Spider-Man. When Peter goes to Tombstone and he's offered to work under Tombstone with a huge salary in exchange for looking the other way whenever Tombstone says so. The brief hesitation or moment to remember that Peter looking the other way is what cost him Ben's life. In Far From Home Peter wants to drop his responsibilities to get with MJ. Tom Holland could have been the best Spider-Man we've ever gotten but the MCU is too afraid to tell a Spider-Man story and to let him be his own hero.

      @Erik Kemeey what point are you even trying and failing to make

    • @HatiHro
      @HatiHro 2 роки тому +9

      @Erik Kemeey Did you even read my original comment? I don't hate the MCU, but it cannot be denied that having Peter be so directly connected to the Avengers in every aspect of his character bogs down the most compelling parts of Spider-Man. No Way Home is where Spider-Man started to feel like Spider-Man and going forward it looks like Peter is set up to be the classic Spider-Man.
      I'm sorry but Peter not being able to go on a date with a girl he had no chemistry with is not a compelling consequence since he just forgave him right after. Aunt May shouldn't be okay with her only family going out and risking his life to the same crime that took her husband only a short time ago.
      I will say it again since you will ignore any point I'm making to diminish any criticism as just hate. I DO NOT hate Tom Holland or the MCU. I hate that they are squandering the huge amount of potential they have because they are shackled to the MCU model of story telling.

    • @HatiHro

      @Erik Kemeey I do not understand where this mindset of we can't expect MCU Spidey to meet or come close to the Raimi films. Here starving child enjoy this slop we scooped up from a pig farm, don't complain be glad you have food. You know it is because there are better Spider-Man movies and media that the MCU trilogy is being held to a higher standard. Tell me what is wrong with holding the most popular marvel character with a history of beloved and incredibly compelling movies and shows to the standard that has been set.

    • @HatiHro
      @HatiHro 2 роки тому +5

      @Erik Kemeey Okay since you're just going to strawman what I'm saying you are showing you don't really want to hear what I have to say. In Far From Home it is literally in the movie that Peter was refusing to be Spider-Man because he wanted to hang out with and get with MJ. You cannot deny that. Nowhere in my original post did I ever say that MCU Spider-Man doesn't care about responsibility. What I said, and if you were engaging in this conversation honestly this is what you would have talking about, was and I quote " the MCU Spider-Man only feels like Spider-Man on the surface level". Why does Peter feel responsible to use his powers to help people. Because of Iron Man.
      Where is Peter's father figure the one who raised Peter to be the man he is. Ben Parker doesn't exist outside of references and vague allusions. Peter loses Ben's suitcase and he should be distraught that he lost something of the man who raised him. We don't need to see Ben Parker die again but the MCU shifts that role he played in Peter's life to Tony Stark. The fact Peter hears the " Great Power and Great Responsibility" line AFTER he's already been Spider-Man for a while speaks volumes. And please let Aunt May be old again, I love cookie baking wisdom spouting old lady May Parker.

He also wasn't cool in-universe, he still got bullied pretty fucking bad, unlike MCU Peter. And unlike Tobey's Peter, TASM showed the angst that Peter has 70% of the time in the comics. The Sam Raimi movies made Peter a stereotype of what the character actually is.

    •Disney and the MCU is holding Marvel back.
    •I miss when Carol Danvers was Ms.Marvel/Warbird and had curves, because I’m cultured.
    •Marvel needs to take notes from the animated justice League, and Batman Brave and the Bold, they have a lot underutilized characters like Wonder Man, Scorpion, Mad Man, Moonstone, etc.
    •Spider-Man Edge of Time > Loki and Endgame.
    •Lionsgate’s Next Avengers > Kate Bishop, Ironheart, Sylvie and Jane Foster.
    •Everyone else needs to talk about the animated Marvel stuff, especially the animated movies by Lionsgate.
    •Hulk Vs and Planet Hulk > MCU Thor, Hulk and Loki.
    •The MCU needs to stop with the comedic tone, no one likes a brown nose.

      Nothing against humour, but the issue with MCU films in general is that it focuses way too much on humour & less on seriousness. Now days, a lot of entertainment doesn't know how to balance out humour & serious moments anymore. And it really hurts the viewer experiance. It's reasons like this why I go back watching older entertainment, because back then good writing was a lot of the times the main priority when it came to making entertainment for people. Heck, I personally prefer Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes over the large majority of the MCU films. Because EMH's actually cared & respected the original source material, while the MCU a lot of the times don't. And don't even get me started on how poorly the MCU handles it's villains.

      @@thelivingshtpost I personally believe Spider-Man should NEVER be involved with or even coexist with cosmic-level heroes and threats because it takes the "Friendly Neighborhood" out of Spider-Man and it obscures the webhead's supporting cast of civilian loved ones, who are supposed to be the important characters.
      Spidey's rogues' gallery consists mostly of super-powered or tech-enhanced common criminals, mad scientists turning themselves into monsters or murderers, super-strong or super-powered crime bosses, corrupt and ruthless corporate overlords, and a certain blowhard news publisher, all of which are more realistic threats that are closer to home than interdimensional demons, time-traveling tyrants, identity-stealing aliens, and all-powerful gods that can change reality. Spider-Man is about protecting the people, not saving the world. Why should Spidey have to fight Dr. Doom when he already has the Kingpin?
      Putting all these characters into one world overcomplicates all their stories by having them intertwine and forcing audiences to look into these crossovers just to get caught up, which is the main reason I don't read comic books for their abundant continuity. Why should I care about the Avengers and the Fantastic Four when I came to see Spider-Man? Besides, since when were they the people that mattered most to Peter Parker? Characters like Gwen Stacy, Flash Thompson, Aunt May, Robbie Robertson, Harry Osborn, Mary Jane Watson, and most importantly, Uncle Ben are the people that motivate Peter Parker to be Spider-Man and protect New York, and they're constantly reduced to make room for other superheroes, especially with the MCU where they're nothing more than comic relief. Not that Spidey shouldn't have any supporting heroes, only street-level ones like he is: Daredevil, Iron Fist, Cloak and Dagger, Punisher, Luke Cage, White Tiger, and a handful of others who protect the friendly neighborhood rather than save the world.
      My problem is that with Marvel's characters, I like focusing on them individually rather than seeing them as part of a bigger picture, especially with Spider-Man since he's my all-time favorite. I don't mind seeing the Avengers taking on Kang the Conquerer, as long as Spider-Man has nothing to do with it or even live in their world at all. So basically, I want Marvel Universe divided so the Avengers and SHIELD have their own world, the X-Men have theirs, and Spider-Man and the Defenders have theirs.

    You are wrong. Andrew is alot closer to the Peter Parker in the comics especially Steve ditkos. He was only a nerd in the sense that he liked books and was a loner but he was never a guy to stumble over his words or just let people bully him. He had a vengeful and edgier side. Always came back with witty remarks and was a smooth talker with ladies. Unlike Toby's portrayal which has him be the most timid guy ever, a man with little respect for himself and just a good kid with a good heart only to stay that way for all of the first movie. Toby had no edge at all. Tom is a different case. He is only Peter on a surface level. Eg suits and powers. Uncle Ben didn't play that much of a role as people think. THANK YOU!!! As a fellow spiderman fan I really don't like the MCU version at all. He's irresponsible, stupid, reckless and completely dependent on others without relying on his own talents and gifts
    "Oh but he's learning, that's his arc"
    No. He learned that arc the *HARD* way when Ben died because of him. In fact I had an idea of how that would've work and it goes against everything the mcu set up with him
    OK marvel fans, explain this to me; how did Peter become spiderman? That's a rhetorical question but think it thru. He gets bit and boom gets powers. Given that he's in the mcu and sees Tony stark out himself as iron man.......... what stopped Peter from doing the same? Why wouldn't Peter put on a costume, film himself saving people and try to become famous? The money he could've received would've made uncle Ben's and aunt May's life so much easier and Peter would be living the suite life. So........ why didn't that happen?
    See in my mind I can picture it now..... Peter would've tried and maybe uncle Ben caught wind of it. He tries to correct Peter and tell him that because he has this amazing power, that he should use it to help others without the need to show off. Maybe Peter didn't listen and maybe sees a robbery but didn't want to stop it cuz maybe it wasn't cool enough. And that robber kills Ben......... Peter then realizes the uncomfortable truth. Yeah the avengers go and save the world from aliens and evil robots ........ but plenty of uncle Ben's die everyday due to every day crime. Who's looking out for the little guy? Iron man would be too busy to notice a drug deal going down or somebody robbing a convenience store for a couple hundred bucks. What they need........ is a friendly neighborhood spiderman
    "But he did do that in homecoming" you might say
    And I say........ yeah for like a montage for 5 mins. Since then, when has Peter dealt with street crime? He's been busy traveling the world dealing with avenger level threats but he's not helping his own neighborhood
    Look you may like Tom Holland and all that and that's great, more power to you. But to me......... as a spiderman fan since I was a toddler........ this is NOT my spiderman. Spectacular, Sam raimi's, and the ps4 are
    Ps great video my dude!

      @markmolino679 2 роки тому +4

      Exactly and I agree with you. That 5 min montage in homecoming wasn't him really fighting crime. It was treated as a way to make Spiderman/Spiderboy looks like a nuisance rather a crime fighter.Also those 'so called' marvel fans ain't know one crap about Spiderboy being an accurate Spiderman. Cuz they have never read a Spiderman comic in their life.

      @@markmolino679 well I actually like that part of the montage. I've seen comics where spiderman helped an elderly couple move into their new apartment by moving the heavy furniture upstairs. It's part of him being A friendly neighborhood spiderman
      It's everything after that and the reason why is the problem lol Peter should *LOVE* helping people simply because he can, NOT for trying to impress daddy stark so he can join the big kids club
      The amazing spiderman 2, while it was a Frankenstein of a mess, the opening with Andrew just being spiderman is so dam good, marvel needs to take notes from it and the raimi movies lol

      @bluelanternguardianangel8038 2 роки тому

      @Erik Kemeey well I didn't have to read your comments like 3 times lol
      I actually indeed have seen all 5 films. Why 5? Well that's including civil war and infinity war (endgame was a cameo more than anything else really)
      And how is it a lie to say he's traveling all the time? In homecoming he went to Washington DC, going all the way to the vultures base then to Coney Island. In far from home is what you mentioned. Then in no way home he's running around the outskirts of the city.
      Where in any of that was he fighting street crime? That was my original point and you haven't answered that. The fact that you said I was lying but haven't proved me wrong shows that YOU'RE the one lying and coping at the same time
      And when I say I'm a spiderman fan, I don't just mean the Raimi films, which is watched, not read lol I've seen ultimate spiderman, spectacular spiderman, spiderman the animated series, both amazing spiderman films, played the tie in games, web of shadows, the ps4 game (which is the best out of all of them) and the mcu trilogy. I've also read several spiderman novels and have the first 20 issues of the original comics (they were releases so they are collectibles but they're a fun read)
      I know what I'm talking about unlike the marvel shills who think this is good lol

    I don't understand the hate for Andrew's Spiderman he was a faithful adaptation especially to the modern stories at the time. Peter was a loner and introverted kid who had a love for science. And the weight of Uncle Ben's death in the Amazing Spiderman holds a lot of weight. Plus you might not like the ASPM movies but they have the spirit of each of the characters in the Spiderman universe. And just like the comics we feel the true weight of Peter's decisions and we see just because he saved the day it didn't come without a cost and that's literally the character of Spiderman

Peter learns his lesson in the end knowing that he doesnt need to be in the avengers, and helling people cross the street is just as great.

    Your video is really good, but I have to say I disagree with your opinions about the mark webb films.
    I think this is the best interpretation of Peter Parker
    To him (and to me) the "outcast" part is way more important that the "nerdy" part, and to say he is "too cool" just because he rides a skateboard doesn't make sense to me. He is an outcast who is very awkward when it comes to talking to other children and he finds himself comfortable doing skates because it's what he's like
    And yes I'm gonna quote Peter B Parker from into the spider verse "don't do it like me, do it like you"
    And Mark and Andrew did a very great job at creating their own vision of the spider man/Peter Parker character

    • @thelivingshtpost

      I'm gonna be honest, I don't remember if I mentioned the skateboard scene in this video but I do remember when I originally watched TASM after seeing Cosmonauts video, I thought that whole highschool lockers scene was overhated in a way, like there literally is a scene where hes denied by a girl because she only wants him to do her homework.
      I have my problems with the Webb films, and I still don't like the Uncle Ben death scene but Andrew was fine. He had his Peter moments, I thought he was an extremely good Spider-Man, I think I only just really mentioned him because his films had flaws and people focused on the flaws and never brought up how Andrew is younger and better looking than Tobey, but for some reason with Holland all the flaws are ignored because "Holland hot"
      EDIT: Ok yeah, I did show the skateboard scene... Its been almost a year since I made this video so I cant remember my mindset on why I included it other than, I was talking about the broad opinion of the movies and thats a scene that I always saw being criticized. Again, the point of bringing up Andrew and the Webb films was more to show the inconsistency and overall weirdness that the Webb films got criticized by the majority of people for its flaws, but for some reason the Holland films didnt solely because "Holland hot and young"

    • @finnoplay

      @Erik Kemeey I find it way too frustrating that he always needs backup, and that he NEEDED to be sided with the other spider-men to become one of his own. It makes me think that he is in fact more Miles Morales than Peter Parker. Oh and also frustrating that he had to rely on the OTHER villains instead of his own.
      And the "uncle Ben problem" also irritate me
      Well, I have plenty of problems with mcu spider man, the actors not being one.
      And I DO like mcu spider-man, but not in his solo movies

    Nice video, only one problem....IT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED THAT MCU PETER ISN'T SPIDER-MAN FOR THE THRILLS, IT'S BECAUSE IF HE DOESN'T DO IT, BAD THINGS ARE HIS FAULT. This was made clear in Civil War (HIS FIRST APPEARANCE). Clearly, Uncle Ben's teachings are in Peter in the MCU. Adding to this, Peter in Homecoming is constantly being told to leave Vulture's operation alone and let someone else handle it by Tony Stark, yet he refuses to, even at the end where Tony doesn't care about him anymore, Vulture just threatened him, and a chance to get everything he wants (a chance with Liz) is right in front of him. Despite all of that, he still goes to stop Vulture. Why? Not to get the attention of the Avengers, but because it's right. Uncle Ben's name doesn't have to be said to make a Spider-Man story good, and having Tony Stark as another mentor doesn't make him irrelevant.

    • @beanik835
      @beanik835 10 місяців тому +2

      And the problem with that is that it’s been never explained properly. Tom Holland never addressed the problem being similar to how he let a criminal get away and murdered his uncle. Or how he had that talk with the Vulture about how the middle working class having to get by while the rich is lounging. Tom can just reply back by saying that there’s some sense of responsibility and goodwill within people. The idea of Tony Stark as his role figure completely muddles his individuality since he just dragged Tom’s Peter into the fray without any context. Tom Peter needs to find out the situation by himself and volunteers to take part in these conflicts. Would Tony Stark even be Iron Man without Yinsen? Would Steve Roger’s even be Captain America without dr Erskein?

    but ben did make peter spiderman, in nwh when may says the great responsibility line peter says that he knows, showing ben did tell him that, but within the chaos of everything thats going on in that movie he could risk forgetting that so she tells him it as a final moment that secured who peter is as spiderman and as a regular person. and tony isnt meant to be his main father figure, the whole point of homecoming is for peter to learn he doesnt want to be an avenger, he wants to be friendly neighborhood spiderman and then the next movie shows him tony and his idols arent these perfect beacons of justice he once thought, they were flawed human beings just like him and that he meeds to become his own hero and not try to be what others expect of him. thats why i love mcu spiderman. well made and argued video btw you def earned a sub!

    It seems like in the Mcu spider man upbringing might be different from what we expect as May be the biological aunt as merging some of Ben traits it just seem like this is the truth as for having multiple role models playing the father figure might just the case as Ben could have been may boyfriend that was killed but it didn’t effect Peter as much I would kinda say that is headcaonn

    What I wanna say is that NWH is supposed to final make Tom’s Peter Spider-Man, even tho he still doesn’t feel like Spider-Man… what I’m tryna say is that look Tobey just is Spider-Man to be me BUT outta all 3 I can tell and feel that Andrew cared/ cares the most about the character of Spider-Man, and watching his movies he feels like Spider-Man, Tom (TO ME) has always been Spider-Boy OR Ironman Jr., and the only reason some people say they don’t like Tom’s Spider-Man is because his version is in a universe with already established rules and characters so his Spider-Man has to follow the “mcu rules”, PERSONALLY I’ve always liked the Spider-Man’s that were solo like (Tobey, Andrew, The Spectacular Spider-Man) but even the end of NWH he still doesn’t feel like classic Spider-Man which is what they’re clearly going for it ONLY feels like a first step in the right direction and THATS IT, I feel like Tom’s Peter has more room to grow to actually feel like classic Spider-Man

    I feel like you need to get a Revaluation about the amazing spiderman movies they're quite faithful to Spider man as a character.
    Andrew garfield spider-man Tackled Far more different elements than other live action spiderman have tackled.
    He is not some stereotypical nerd But he's a smart kid with a bit of a chip on his shoulder that keeps distance from people due to his parents abandoning him.
    Not to mention both of his films really hammer home Great power comes great responsibility with everyone of his actions having consequences That puts both toby and tom to shame.

      TASM is beautiful and it's disheartening that he wasn't mcus native spidey.
      I mean they already had a good base. A good adaptation. While his movies are publicly dumped on they both feel much deeper and better than the first two mcu Spider-Man movies.
      Honestly don't care what people say about its story, i loved it. It was a Spider-Man story and felt like it. It's the deepness with the character that they build over the two films that makes me love it the most. Like, closest we got to a deep emotional moment with any actual depth to the story in mcu was the sequence with May in NWH.
      It took them 3 movies to do one scene where it feels like their relationship is real.
      Meanwhile TASM had multiple such scenes with multiple characters.(Altho i will agree that having Harry in the first film would've been good since that's the one character we kinda got underhanded on with good scenes)
      I only hope that going forward they go for small scale, street level, deep and personal stories for Spider-Man. Although looking at the entire jumbled mess the MCU and SSU have made of the thing so far really gives me no hope....
      edit: There was one other such scene in homecoming with aunt May after the ferry scene but that's about it. 2 scenes with a key character over 3 movies.

    Spider-Man actors on the Big Screen 1979-2021:
    Nicholas Hammond tried his best in a time before CGI.
    Tobey Maguire was the worst.
    Andrew Garfield just looked lost.
    Tom Holland IS the closest to the Spider-Man comics I started reading 46 years ago!
    So Tom for the win!
