The fact that this show took one of the most shocking and well known comic reveals of all time, in the Green Goblin's true identity, and actually made it shocking again WITHOUT changing the identity is beyond impressive.
They mixed both the mystery of Green Goblin's identity and Hobgoblin's identity (that turned into the most crazy convoluted plot between writers and editors that either hated Hobgoblin's creator and his idea of the identity or each other not agreeing on who's gonna be) from the comics into one heck of a mystery.
Yeah, I was actually mad when Harry was revealed as the Goblin, I thought they were deliberatly changing Goblin's identity. But it was so worth it when the actual reveal finally happened!
My favorite detail of that is that the Chameleon is introduced in the series as Norman Osborn one episode before he's introduced as the Chameleon. And you even see that he has a Norman Osborn mask in his disguise kit, so it doesn't even feel like a cheat.
This show is so influential on my personal experience of Spider-Man. Whenever I go to a library and pick up a Spider-Man comic book, I hear Josh Keaton's voice in my head when I read Peter's lines. It just feels like they pulled him out of the comics and placed him in this show.
Greg Weisman actually said recently that there were never plans to kill Gwen in the show itself. He knows that goes against the mythology. He went on to say that IF they decided that Gwen was going to die, it wouldn’t have happened until the movies set after the end of the show, where Peter and the Gang are in college, because they would be more mature then, and the writers could give the death the gravitas and weight it deserves. Also, Venom would have redeemed himself and possibly gotten his own spin off series. The Hobgoblin would have been the main villain of season 3, and Norman’s plot line wouldn’t have been revisited until season 4. Such a shame that this show can’t be resurrected like young justice. But who knows, maybe Freshman year will carry on the same spirit.
I completely respect that approach. He and Victor Cook actually respected Gwen and wanted her to be a proper character, rather than a checkmark to fulfill (Amazing Spider-Man 2). Also, FYI, the whole "Venom spin-off" thing is a complete rumor. There IS a potential spin-off, but it would have tied off in season 3 and would've followed characters like Felicia Hardy, Hobie Brown, and Flint Marko.
@@GamerSlyRatchet1 I figured it was a rumor. That’s why I said “possibly”. Didn’t know about the others though. Hobie as the prowler could been really interesting, since he only showed up once on the 90’s show
@@Dhampir101980 Yeah, we got Hobie, but he didn't become Prowler in this show. I was surprised they actually used him in the 2017 cartoon instead of Aaron, especially since Miles was a major character in it.
It was obvious since it was a kids show they couldn't go to route but if they had plans for DTV movies they probably would've had more liberties like Batman with Mask of the Phantasm
You know what I really love about Liz? She was the only one to understand that the obsesion of Peter wasn't because he was a jerk, but because he was actually very poor and was trying to suppor hus family. We as an audience understand that he does it to be Spiderman, but only Liz puts herself on his place and decides to support him as he is going through some heavy stuff
Gwen does that too which makes her a very likable potential significant other for Peter, but I definitely see your point. Like Liz’s brother said, “She’s too good for you."
Ikr Peter was just straight up selfish for this yes he's the best ever character/superhero of all time. As much as I love him I can't help but think he was such a dick here. Liz was always loyal throwing herself all over him she was literally his ride or die. Loved him for who he is and on top off that she's going through a hard time, her brother is locked up again ane she needs all the support she can get. Especially from her boyfriend but Peter chooses now out of all times to break her heart. Like damn dude at least wait it out. Because man this was just wrong. Even before this he never treated her right anyway talk about selfish. But hey love is love so what can you do? Poor Liz.
Fun Fact: Even though a lot of folk associate Tombstone with Keith David, Keith only voiced him in the very first episode of the show. Every appearance of Tombstone after that was Kevin Michael Richardson doing a Keith David impression. And the man is so good at his job that most fans never noticed it was a different guy.
The best moment flash had in the show was when he confronted Peter during the symbiote suit arc. The fact that he knew something was up with Peter and that he actually did something to fix it really made me respect him. He is definitely one of my favorite characters in the series.
Well idk if Flash fixed it. He basically told Peter he doesn’t feel all that sorry for him if Peter continues to keep on pushing away everyone who cares. But it’s enough to make Peter aware something’s not right with the symbiote. So I guess Flash inadvertently saved him.
@@benwasserman8223 Exactly. Flash wasn't exactly nice about it, but he got the point across, which was consistent with his character. He didn't mean to save him, but at the same time, he accidentally said the right thing, which snapped Peter out of his toxic state of mind. When Flash Thompson*** is lecturing you, you know something is wrong.
one of my favorite parts you didn’t mention was how captain stacy knew peter was spider-man but just never talked about it he just kept hinting at it and helping peter out in ways especially the detective classes
@@Johnny2Cellos bro the 1994 Spider-Man is way better not by far but it is I use to not think this until I gave it a chance and it was actually ahead of its time and so dope
@@Lillean I used to hold TAS as gospel when it comes to spiderman, but it is undeniable that Spectacular just succeeds it in every way. Capitalising and growing off of all the changes JSJ originally made and fleshing it out even more. I love TAS with every fibre of my being but this show is the best spiderman story ever adapted to screen
Something I really love about Spider-Man as a whole is Jameson and Peter's relationship. While Jameson hates Spider-Man with a passion, he often views Peter as a sort of son. And the reason I like that dynamic with Jameson is because it makes for great stories. While Jameson is praising Peter for his skills as a photographer in his own way, he's also slandering his alter-ego. I don't read a lot of comics, but I saw a snippet of one where Peter reveals his identity to Jameson and it causes Jameson to rethink his entire view on Spider-Man. Because that's THE best kind of J.J. Jameson.
theres a video somewhere on YT that mentions theres a comic whrre after jameson learns peter is spidey, he actualy tries to HELP spiderman in finding crime
I know that it’s not the main continuity but one of my favorites part of the Ultimate Universe is when after the Ultimatum Wave hit NY (basically the entire city flooded bc of Magneto and a lot of people and superheroes died) Jameson saw how the only hero that cared about saving the little people was Spider-Man, sacrificing his own life to do it. He decided to apologize and started praising Spidey and when he found out it was Peter all along decided he would pay all of his University needs and shit. It was beautiful.
Well Jonah has done a lot if bad to Peter too. He doesn’t really treat him as a son. He once fired him for literally no reason other than the fact that he was angry (not angry at Peter)
I liked that this series gave a true reason for Jameson's contempt for Spider-Man and masked heroes. His son was a true hero who saved his crew with no powers. He opted to run that as his front page instead of more Spider-Man stuff and when Peter sold the pictures to the Globe (rival paper) their issue overshadowed his son's story and that upset him. He gave Peter an exclusive deal to photograph Spider-Man only for the Bugle so he could smear his name every chance he got.
Kind of gives you some added insight for why J.J. was so excited for him to become Colonel Jupiter at first. Of course there's the obvious aspect of having a superhero on the inside to take down Spider-Man, but I think J.J. really just wanted his son to get the proper recognition he deserves, while topping Spider-Man at the same time.
I honestly found Eddy's turn for revenge believable because even though he knew Peter was Spirder-man he still had SO much anger towards Peter and the symbiote focused on that and enhanced it. Making his revenge more believable.
He also seemed to have underlying resentment of Peter already, which just got worse as Peter's Spider-Man activities ramped up and caused issues in his life. He tells Peter, "our parents may have died together, but you had your precious aunt and uncle. We had no one. We've always been alone", which is something he probably always envied Peter for, but never said to anyone because of how awful that sounds. He even mentions something like to MJ when he's driving recklessly through New York, saying that Eddie kept the bullies off Peter's back, with Peter profiting off the Lizard incident in return by taking photos instead of helping. Yes, this was before he knew Peter was Spider-Man, but you can understand the sentiment. Another thing to keep in mind is that Eddie's a college student that lost is his job at the Connor's Lab due to the symbiote being stolen, which meant that he likely couldn't continue paying his tuition either. Peter did ultimately steal the symbiote, and try to destroy it despite Eddie telling him it could've gotten him his job back. Even if Peter could've explained it to him, I doubt it would've worked considering how angry and somewhat mentally unstable Eddie already was. I don't think the symbiote told Eddie literally everything, and with how Eddie was feeling at the time, I don't think he was thinking rationally. Since the symbiote was the only love in Eddie's life at that point, he likely didn't want to give it up either way, both due to the alien's influence, and because of Eddie's own mental problems.
@@flarestorm9417 I think the thing that seals it as believable is after Venom's final defeat, Eddie says that the suit only wants him for his hate. That implies that the second time around he was intentionally fueling his hate for Peter, probably doing his best to ignore any details that would make him forgive Peter so that he could keep whatever close bond the suit provides
There's a reason why Spectacular Spider-Man is praised as one of the greatest Spider-Man adaptations OF ALL TIME, it's such a shame that it was cut short...
There were several cameos from future villains before they became villains. We saw Cletus Kasady in a group therapy session at Ravencroft, Morris Bench was a demolitions expert that Spider-Man saved, Miles Warren likely would’ve become Jackal and they might’ve adapted the clone saga in some way, Roderick Kingsley was one of the crime lords in the gang war arc and he probably would’ve become Hobgoblin, We also heard Norman on the phone with Mac Gargan in the season 2 finale. Sony really fumbled the bag with this show HARD and it’s a damn shame these storylines were never followed up on.
I must disagree with the Roderick Kingsley because Norman if you watch the final episode Norman can be seen with blonde hair so technically I think Norman could have been hobgoblin but you never know
Agreed. They literally had everything set up for season 3 throughout season 2, so much potential for great storylines. But you're right, Sony fumbled it hard, and now we have unimaginative and uncreative garbage like the recent disney spiderman cartoon, and even the ultimate spiderman was ultimately mediocre. Spectacular spiderman and the 90s animated series were always my 2 favorites and always will be, everything after those is not worth anyone's time.
@@wyattlundrigan4740 I'd say the spiderman 2018 game does a pretty good job too (although it's a game so the story is limited by length). If you got a Playstation and haven't played it yet then I highly recommend you play it asap.
@@wyattlundrigan4740 That kinda hurts that you said nothing else was good because I like the MTV Spider-Man and I feel it doesn't really get the props it should get. But I can understand how it wasn't everyone's cup of tea.
It's pretty clear that they had planned to bring in Carnage because Cletus Kasady is in Season 2, he's in Otto's therapy group. They even say his name out loud, which feels like a real hint.
This show still has my favorite defeat of the Symbiote, with Peter outplaying it by actually being really smart about what it wants, and how it could exploit it, while also giving us a really great piece of dialogue: "That's what it wants, right? A reunion with its first love..." "The symbiote's found a better partner in me!" "'Me'? Not _'us'?"_
Honestly, since they brought Spectacular Spiderman back in the spiderverse movie, even for just a quick cameo, theres definitely some hope for a possible continuation of the show
That movie opened the doors to many possibilities. I for one hope that they'll finally give the Spidey and Peter from The Animated Series real closure in finding Mary Jane. It has been irking me for almost 30 years...
That real life version of the prowler when Miles was looking at the anomalies really got me thinking, that was the same Aaron Davis that was interrogated in Spiderman Homecoming. Can't wait to see what's next for Tom's spiderman.
Yeah Now we have -Overly nice girl stuck in a soap opera (Raimi Trilogy) -Bland, edgy and sassy teenager (Watts Trilogy) -Literally Lois Lane (Spider-Man Ps4/Ps5, also the Ultimate universe whether it's the Comics or the TV show) And all of these suck
@@TokuNorth The MCU one wasn't too bad, but she didn't really scream MJ to me. I can see why people have issues with the PS MJ, but I thought she was fine.
@@dylansearcy3966 She would have been an love interest if they did another season. They even introduced her with her iconic comic book line "Face it tiger! You just hit the jackpot."
The fact that this show was able to throw 40 years of Spidey mythos across film, comics and TV into a blender, and pick and choose the best elements of several interpretations across the decades, discard the less than stellar elements, and create something with a tone that's both contemporary and timeless.
Honestly, we would have finally gotten a good not stupid clone saga arc out of this show. Disney really should pay Sony to finish the series. It would profit them by making the fans immensely happy and willing to buy more toys etc.
In the defense of Eddie, his remarks in Venom's debut episode, that Peter grew up with Aunt May and Uncle Ben while he had no one, and that he resented Peter for it, recontextualized both his previous friendship with Peter and his lashing out at him throughout the season. He seems to have always hated Peter for having the life he lacked, but because they were friends, he kept trying to repress that bitterness by being his "bro". When Peter screws up, it kind of "justifies" Eddie's hatred of Peter and it frees him to spew venom at him. By the time he gets the symbiote, it doesn't matter that Peter is Spider-Man. He's fully addicted to his hatred and refuses to listen to reason. Add to that, the symbiote makes him feel less alone, so he refuses to let go of his hatred and his connection to it.
Plus, it’s pretty clear the symbiote selectively showed and highlighted to Eddie specific moments that would anger him regarding Peter which is the purpose for that flashback sequence when the symbiote bonds with Eddie.
@@reicelestial2478 it does make their connection better but it does take a little bit away from their previous comic book set up where Eddie is a stranger introduced who is made to be the opposite of Peter. Like somebody you barely know but you find out through the grapevine that they hate you for some reason
It reminds me of the Lex/Clark relationship from Smallville, Clark grew with the heartwarming Kents while Lex was resented and grew with Lionel who was always cole and calculating.
"They make me love Liz and Peter together to the point where I was actually upset when they break up", you hit the nail on the head right there with my biggest issue with this show. Not only do Liz and Peter have such great chemistry together that I can't help but want to see them together, but the chemistry between them is so good, I was frequently disappointed when villains would show up and the scenes with Liz would have to stop so that Spider-Man could fight the bad guys. Spectacular Spider-Man could have _just_ been a slice-of-life show about Peter and Liz dating, and it'd still be my favorite Spider-Man cartoon, they're that fun together.
fr and the way she kept forgiving him cause she knows he needs the money, and is only mad because she can see that peter likes gwen, i wish they had just left it tbh
I did not like how Liz just basically forced herself into Peter's life even though Gwen had already been there and she caused a rift in their development which angered me as she was dating Flash whilst flirting with Peter.
@@paulakroy2635 I agree - my issue isn't the characterisation of Peter or that he's flawed. Like I said, its that the interpersonal elements of the Spectacular cartoon are just _so_ compelling and so well-crafted that the actual Spider-Man stuff feels like a frustrating interruption. A lot of Spider-Man adaptations understandably focus on the super hero stuff first and have the civilian life stuff secondary - the Spectacular cartoon flipped it so the focus is largely on Peter and his supporting cast with the hero stuff still prominent, but less so than usual, and I like that in concept, it's just that the writers, animators and voice actors all did _such_ a great job at selling Peter's friendships and relationships that even some of my favorite members of the rogues gallery would have me just impatiently waiting to get back to the stories surrounding Liz, Harry or Eddie. Maybe that's the point, maybe they wanted us to empathise with Eddie's frustrations that Peter was always seemingly disappearing when villains started attacking. But what I was trying to get across in my original comment was not that I have issue with Peter being flawed, it's that the great drama _about_ Peter's flaws is constantly being interrupted for action scenes. Honestly, my fix for this show would be, ironically, to have less Spider-Man in it; instead of showing Spider-Man fighting Kraven or Ock or Electro or whoever, keep the focus on the supporting cast in Peter's absence while these fights go down in the background. I know that sounds silly, but to me, Spectacular Spider-Man was always much more of a Peter Parker show than a Spider-Man show, and if they'd just leaned into that a bit harder, it would've turned what is already an Amazing adaptation into a Sensational adaptation, if you'll pardon the wordplay.
My personal favorite thing about Spectacular Spider-man are the mini storylines that happen in the background like the couple that meet, start dating, and get engaged, all in the background of the series. I also like that the creators introduced future villains in bit parts before they were fully expanded on.
That shit was some galaxy brain. The way it was being played out really seemed like Pete was hallucinating but then to reveal Eddie really was there just a big bruh moment
Hobie Brown (the original prowler from the comics) is in this and actually has no lines (he's constantly interrupted in every episode he's in) until the final episode, where he speaks on stage. They definitely had some plans with him! I also LOVED how they integrated Black Cat's father into Peter's origin story, giving them a dynamic moral conflict. This show does every character so much justice, it's spectacular.
You know the cool thing about MJ? The creators talked on a podcast about the show and how MJ, like in the comics, knew Peter was Spidey since day one. They were neighbors, Afterall. She'd see him in his suit crawling to his room window, unmasked even. She just wanted to know the person under the mask before saying anything. It's why out of most people, she's the most understanding when peter up and disappears during anything important, like the Carnival, Homecoming dance, Valentine's dinner, even when Mark was on fire. She certainly knows what she's talking about when she defends him from Eddie, after that "date". She knows his secret, like Captain Stacy Edit: turns out creators didnt talk about it on a podcast my bad 🤦♂️ It's only chalked up to a theory The only comic accurate thing they did was give her the same entrance in the show during the homecoming episode, as her first appearance in the comics
Usually when you go back to watch a show you enjoyed from your childhood you realize the show wasn’t actually very good. With this show it was the opposite. I actually was able to enjoy it even more now that I’m older and can pick up on more of the details. This show was so good
Same. I started watching just as a simple nostalgia run. Didn’t even think I’d finish. Ended up falling in love with it all over again. Such an amazing show. Timeless!
I says that’s the beauty of this show. Both are actual good people who are genuinely interested in Peter. It would’ve been too easy for the writers to make one of them an extremely annoying character thus forcing Peter to be with one of them.
That also does help this show be the perfect kryptonite for Rabid MJ X Peter diehards. Though maybe I just like that because I'm completely soured on Peter X MJ at this point since I'm like... the ONLY person in the world who reads and knows the lore of current Spider-Man Comics at this point. Gwen, Felicia, Cindy, hell fucking Jennifer Walters at this point are all FAR better partners and even far better *people* than MJ at this point. At least in the 616 anyway. (They badly ruined Peter there too but I'll save that rant for some other time)
This show was my childhood. I had the dvds as a kid and I would watch them to DEATH over and over again, and I’m so happy it’s been getting more attention over the years.
I honestly like that both Liz and Gwen are such likable characters. I think it is a bit more realistic that nobody truly does anything wrong, except maybe Peter who couldn't decide who he wanted to be with fast enough, yet heartbreak is inevitable either way.
Steve Blum also played the Chameleon and one news reporter(I don’t remember his name), he did not play Norman Osborn which I think was to give more of a mystery to who the goblin was.
They did such a great job of setting up Liz and Peter that they over shot it and I ended up feeling like she was too good for Peter. Like she was willing to move heaven and Earth for him!!
I know Liz was so understanding and the break-up was kinda forced. I could feel the energy through the screen that Liz would do anything for Peter so it kinda bummed out too
Felt Liz was annoying in s1. Then later kinda felt bad for her. Not only she would do anything for Peter, she tried to understand him in almost every way. @@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 the art style, it's the bog-standard 2000's geometric style art that every other cartoon at the time was doing. not bad but just boring
@hydromancer4916 really? Kim possible is the only one I can think of. Maybe Danny Phantom but that's different enough. Secondly, you better not like anime then because it all has the same art style
This show always had some of my favorite animated iterations of characters. I've known people who refuse to watch it simply because of the art style and they're absolutely missing out.
Initially I wasn't a huge fan of the art style, but after a while it really grew on me. The simplicity lets them highlight the most defining features of each character to emphasize, and the action scenes are so fluid in a way that would be much more difficult if the characters were drawn in a more complicated way.
Yup. Animation is different from Manga or Comics. I feel a Animation degree is superior because it teach you how to draw fast. How to cut the chase. Animation is dark magic. You must respect it.
I love the art style. To me it's like a mix of stephen silver and anime influence. With it being simple, the story boarders and animators can really go all out. The fight scenes always kicked ass and I was impressed because they didn't feel boring
When I watched this show, I thought for sure that Peter was played by Yuri Lowenthal and being pretty surprised that he wasn't. Since the I always thought he'd make a great Spider-man. And a decade later. Insomniac proved me right.
so heartbreaking man. The characters were just all so complex and endearing. A part of me would love to see gwen and peter continue their relationship after peter drops liz, but In my heart I want peter to be with MJ in this universe. MJ was just so good to peter throughout the show, she was patient with him, helped him with his girl problems even though they had some feelings for each other and she knew peter was drooling over 3 different girls at the time, she still gave him guidance and advice. MJ had a grown, mature mentality compared to the other girls and boys in midtown. Gwen was also good to peter, so it hurts to think that eventually, peter will break her heart and get with MJ. It's just so crushing. I just got the vibes from Gwen in this show that she was a bit more "sensitive" (for lack of a better word, maybe 'aware of her feelings' is a better choice) about her feelings, so if she was to ever get heartbroken it would be just soul-crushing for her and I would honestly feel bad. Sorry for the long ass rant, this show had unparalleled writing and spectacularly complex characters, something that's refreshing to see.
I really hope so but the main problems are: it stopped 15 years ago, disney would have to spend lots of money and the hybe is not that big ( unfortunatly )
Mary Jane Watson is tied with Peter Parker as my favorite character in all of fiction. The movies have never done that character justice (Raimi Mary Jane is not an adaptation of Comic Mary Jane, she’s an adaptation of Comic Betty Brant) and I love that Spectacular actually manages to get her right! I love that she’s not the first love interest in Peter’s high school life. The reason she and Peter work so well together in the comics is because they get together when they are both older and have matured due to their life experiences. Peter himself is the best he’s ever been outside of the comics. No movie has ever gotten close to being as accurate as this show. And it does something that even the comics have forgotten about: Spider-Man is not a miserable burden on Peter Parker, and Peter Parker’s life isn’t misery porn. This is something that the Raimi movies focuses on way too much and is one of the reasons I dislike them as adaptations. The MCU is actually a lot closer to the same tone and style that Spectacular has where it understands that Spider-Man is something Peter sees as a positive thing in his life, more often than Spidey is a negative. Plus, Peter is a lot more like his comic self in Spectacular. He’s cocky, quippy, flirty, and has a temper both in the mask and out of it. The show gets that Spider-Man and Peter Parker aren’t two different people. Will forever be sad that this show was cancelled and I have my fingers crossed that Greg and Victor would revisit the show when they find the time and rights become less of a minefield Now, if you will excuse me, it is time for me to rewatch this show.
I'm curious as to what your opinion is on the PS4 Spider-Man game's version of Peter/Spidey and MJ. I was never really a comic reader (planning on fixing that soon) and that was my favorite version of Spider-Man and most of the cast
@@AraiiarA she is different from what you expect of Mary Jane. Usually she’s not a reporter, but I’m 100% okay with adaptations making changes to fit the story and world the writers are going for. They wanted Mary Jane to have a more active role in the plot and I’m okay with making her a reporter to fit that. It was a very Ultimate comics choice. She still acted the way I expected Mary Jane to act and I really liked her. I understood her frustration with Peter, and she never annoyed me. Except when I had to do her stealth segments. There was really only one stealth segment in the whole game that I liked and that was when she and Peter worked together at the GCS. I still liked her the whole way through.
Spidey Fun Fact: “With great power comes great responsibility,” the most famous Spider-Man phrase was first used by Peter in “Spider-Man Versus Wolverine #1” comic book back in 1987.
No it didn't, the first appearance of the phrase "with great power also must come great responsibility" was first said by the narrator in Spider-Mans first ever appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15. Why say something so wrong when you can literally Google it?

masgerpiece lost it's meaning nowadays, the show was very good but not a masterpiece, problems are villains teleporting when camera spans off them and peter's reaction after norman's death is not realistic at all, I mean he killed him and spider-man doesn't kill.

11:35 We saw that in the show the symbiote can block things from who or what ever minds it is bonded to. When peter was trying to take it off in the tower we learned that it had blocked the fact that noise and vibrations are it's weakness. So my guess to answer your question on why didn't Eddie see the good peter was doing is that the symbiote was blocking some things out of his head to make him hating and keep him hating so they can stay venom.
So glad this is on Netflix, seeing it again brought back so many memories. It's too bad it got canceled One of my favourite character moments for Jonah was when he personally decided to be the one to call Peter upon learning about his Aunt and that she'd been taken to hospital after having a heart attack
4:17 You made a big mistake here. Vulture wasn't screwed over because Norman stopped his research, it was because Norman stole his tech and ideas which would be used in the Green Goblin glider.
This show has the best Venom voice ever with both voices being heard at once. That also shows how Eddy is not as in-synch with the symbiote as Peter was and still likes Peter as a host more
I agree. She looks good with either design, but the first, in my opinion, reflects her personality more while the one she transitions to is clearly meant to catch Peter's attention by replicating the style of the more popular girls. Regardless, you have to respect the animators for illustrating & animating multiple version of her appearance as she grows her hair out & adjusts her appearance in other ways. Each redesign required effort & was hardly used.
The voice cast of this series really make the story feel lived in and natural. Everyone is perfect for their respective roles it it sells both the action and the audio drama aspects of the show, I gush about this cast whenever VO conversations show up (as rare as they do lol). I was a Liz over Gwen girl too and same thing, that's no hate on Gwen, Liz is just that cool. Normally I can't stand love triangles but this show, somehow, developed both Liz and Gwen so well I totally understood why Peter was so conflicted. It felt real and I was empathetic to everyone involved. Last thing! I couldn't stand Gwen's "glow up". I was never a fan of the trope and I'm still not 12 years later it feels...trite?
Yeah her glow up annoyed me too. It is arguably the most annoying cliche out there. I mean, good for Gwen I guess, but the whole "she took off her glasses and now she's gorgeous so the guy is into her even more" is essentially pointless. I was especially upset because I felt her original design was a little more interesting.
It has been my one wish to see all of the legal hurdles jumped and to finally see this show receive an ending. The cast and creators have all expressed their willingness to return and finish the story and I want nothing more
It is a tragedy this series never got another season! I think with Miles Warren taking over the Connor's they could have even been planning on adapting the original clone story from the 70s
I love how at least for the first few episodes. Pretty much everything that happens sets something else up. After becoming Electro, Max unknowingly changes Coner's lizard formula. Which eventually turns him into the Lizard, which means Peter has to leave to fight him, and that starts the decay of his relationship with Eddie.
I remember hearing about this show when it first came out and watching a few handful of episodes but never knew all the hype it got and how praised it is as arguably the best Spider-Man show ever. I finally started binge watching Season 1 a few months ago and definitely understood why it was so highly praised. The storytelling and characters are so layered out and detailed, it’s like it’s pulled straight from Spider-Man comics. I love how Peter is just as quippy as he is as Spider-Man. I think that’s a detail people forget other than the 90s show, but I love that. The balance between his school and personal life with his duties as Spider-Man is handled so well, you’re invested in both equally. I’m almost done with Season 2 but I love the direction they took it in. It’s a more complex season, but they really make it work. I’m now so hyped to see this Spidey back in ATSV.
This series is so spectacular that they should’ve called it….umm, dang I had something for this. Anyway, I managed to snag the entire series on blu ray years ago for $20 when it was apparently forgotten. I was super sad we didn’t get at least one more season, but im grateful for the story we have, and what a great story they told!
I agree, giving Gwen a makeover was a bit shallow and probably the weakest aspect of the show. Just having it as a one-off thing would've been fine, but keeping her all gussied up for the rest of the show's run kinda rubbed me the wrong way. And I'm not just saying that because I think nerd-girl Gwen is the best version of her character. I love a relationship where the two characters are on equal footing.
Yeah its one of the few overt artifacts of that era. Almost everything else avoids tropes like that, all the girls are given agency and good characterization, and the footballers dressing up as cheerleaders is obviously played for laughs but not in the usual creepy or malicious way. Overall pretty good about avoiding shit like that but not perfect sadly.
I don't think the glow up is really that big a deal. She's a nerd, she's a teenager, and while not a "good" message it's very human to have her change her look almost permanently and actually have her looks have semi-gravitas. It's not a Hermione Granger One and Done hot moment.
I was recently watching this series for the 100th time now and man still bugs me to know this show got canceled man. I’m gonna miss the crap out of this show. They even set stuff up for the next seasons. It feels like there was a positive and a negative to Sony and Disney when they made a deal on Spider-Man. The positive for Sony is that we got good shows but the negative was that we got bad movies and the positive for Disney is that we got good movies and the negative was bad shows.
in my head cannon norman is dead and peter stayed with liz, THE MOST FAITHFUL IGRLFRIEND EVER WHO DID NOT DESERVE TO BE DUMPED FOR ANOTHER GIRL! JUST LOST HER BORTHER BASICALLY AND FORGAVE PETER MANY TIMES! what annyoyme the most is I'm pretty sure you can only get this shows on DVD. no disney plus or hulu or anythign
The friendship between Eddie & Peter is definitely a concept that comes from the Ultimate comics, and I genuinely love that dynamic. Especially in this series
I really like how the show handled the black costume. It started very much a black version of the spiderman suit, a homage to Spider-man3 movie perhaps? And the suit itself gradually transforms into the more simpler black suit design that we know from the comics.
This show is one of the few animated productions where Stan lee was actually involved in the production, he was playing a big part in making the series and its the reason why its just so well made
This was indeed my favorite Spiderman show. It's really a pity they didn't go beyond season 2 looking at all the potential the show runners had. I can only hope that we get a series run as worthy as this in the future.
The potential was so huge and character arcs with a lot of characters was so gooodddd like flash becoming a bully to a great friend, Liz from an annoying cheerleader to a great relationship partner, the Sinister six plot with venom was awesome
One of my favorite things in the show was when J.J. decided to call Peter to tell him about Aunt May’s heart attack. I knew Peter wasn’t gonna answer his call because of the symbiote but I still got pretty salty after he didn’t pick up. Another one was Peter being invited to Flash’s birthday party. It was pretty cute reveal.
I never watched this show when it aired. I watched it during the lockdown when searching for some Spider-man media. Boy I loved this show so much and the Season 2 being left on such a cliffhanger. When I knew it got cancelled it made me so sad.
I'm actually really glad I watched this recently because while I love your videos, having the genius of a series pointed out for you before you discover it for yourself can take some of the spark away. While, on the other hand, experiencing all that brilliance firsthand and then having it validated through an outside perspective just helps elevate the series even more. Great video man. What an exceptional show.
I love that there is a section that's just Liz Allen appreciation. Great character and best love interest in the show. Peter f@ked up letting her go cause imo Gwen Stacy is sweet but pretty boring in this show.
I feel like what makes spiderman tragic especially in the version is that being spiderman usually has a negative effect on Peter's life. It's like every time spider man manages to save someone he'll always end up ditching one of his friends or disappointing them in some way.
This is one of the best interpretations of the Spider-Man ever and is underrated and deserved an ending plus it was has some of the best quips and jokes(flash was also one my favorite character by the end of the end of the show)
As someone who followed this show since the beginning, all the Disney buy out of the animated Spidey rights did was prevent Sony from making another series. The REAL villains here are Warner Bros and Paramount for merging into the CW and subsequently selling off their Saturday Morning Cartoon broadcast to 4Kids. Let me start at the beginning. When the show was first pitched NO ONE wanted it for some reason, and there was some talk that they were going to release the show Directly to video, probably why the continuity was so tight. Eventually, Kid's WB picked the series up, and it did quite well. Unfortunately, after the first season, that's when the UPN part of the CW decided Saturday Mornings were no longer profitable, 4Kids took over. While they did retain the rights to rerun the first season, they couldn't afford to run the already produced second season, opting for cheaper programming that they owned the rights to when they were Fox affiliate based. So without an American network, the show was all but cancelled, and a lot of the staff was told to clean out their desks. The second season didn't air for YEARS because it had no place to air, at least here in the US. Bulgaria got the second season before us. BULGARIA! So years later Disney picks it up for Toon Disney, and if you thought that's when we got season 2, you're wrong. It took an ADDITIONAL year, because TD wanted to establish the show, so they reran the first season yet again. By the time we actually got season 2, it was too late. The show could not be salvaged, everyone was laid off from the project, and I don't think Sony had any interest in resuscitating it. I suspect we'd have got something more in tone with the Amazing Spider-Man movies, not something inspired by the Raimi ones. Adding insult to injury, I think the CW's Saturday Morning block ran the first season one final time under Saban's ownership of the channel before they just gave up and gave it to Litton's monopoly of cheap to produce TV E/I boring garbage.
But I thought the second season premiered a year after the first ended. Also, I'm confused about the specifics of the Marvel/Sony deal. We were told Sony gave up the TV right for Spider-Man to hold onto the film rights and for some reason, held onto the production rights for Spectacular. However, some point, I read that Sony can make TV series, but the episodes have to be longer than 30 minutes.
@@parkerboy795 I assure you, the second season did NOT premiere in the US until years later. Sure, it was ready, we could have seen it if CW held off a year before dumping their kid's programming. We probably could have seen it within a reasonable time frame if either Nick or CN picked it up, but they didn't want it. 4kids couldn't afford to run anything but the episodes they already got, and they were basically the last of the Saturday Morning blocks. So the show had no home. Trust me. I was there. I remember the message boards and I do remember them really being pissed about every other country getting the second season before Disney picked the broadcast rights up. The show was a victim of bad timing. Saturday Morning Broadcast was dying, CN went through the pre-Adventure Time dark period that killed Toonami (perfect place for the show), the poor series probably wouldn't even had a first season had it not been for Kid's WB.
@@parkerboy795 I think that's the context everyone seems to forget when it comes to this series. Mainly because all the new viewers watched the show online or on the collected DVD set. Side note, they didn't even release the FIRST season collected until well after the show ended, let alone the second. They released them in 3 episode, 15 dollar a go volumes. I don't even think the second season got a separate release. I didn't get to see the second season until someone posted them to UA-cam quite some time after.
I love how this show combines different comic origins for the villains. Eddie being Peters childhood friend and working together as scientist is from the ultimate comics but his visual look and venom design are from 616
This variation of spider man was seen in the newest Across the Spider-Verse poster, and he's in the front row with all the important characters of the movie so hopefully his appearance in the movie will give him the popularity boost needed to get him renewed for a new season
yeah, Kraven going all lion in this show was a misstep I think. the whole point of Kraven's character is he wants to prove he can beat Spider-Man shearly with his skill and wit as a hunter. that's kind of ruined when he resorts to gaining superpowers
I just finished the show and wow, the fact this show didn't end properly is so insanely upsetting. It's one of my favorite pieces of Spidey media now, just fantastic
There were confirmed a lot of new villains before the series was cancelled. Which of these villains you wanted to see the most? Carnage, Hydro Man, Hobgoblin, Jackal or Scorpion?
This show and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes were both so damn good, and it hurts me every time I remember such incredible interpretations got dumpstered because Marvel needed to vomit out more MCU bile instead of just adapting future storylines to play nice with it to some degree.
You know what's even more heartbreaking. The Spider-Man that appeared in Earth's Mightiest Heroes was supposed to be the same Spider-Man as this one. They even recorded the entire first episode with Spider-Man in it with his voice actor from Spectacular Spider-Man, but since Ultimate Spider-Man was airing at the same time they re-recorded it with the voice actor from that show. Really sucks because they replaced Earth's Mightiest Heroes with Avengers Assemble and while that series is good I don't think it compares. For one thing I hate how the characters all use their MCU designs. Especially Antman. Plus in that series Antman is Scott Lang not Hank Pym and neither him or Janet is mentioned in it. Even though both exist because Ultron is a known threat and Hope Pym shows up.
I literally just watched some of the USM show and Spectacular back to back a few days ago. Shit was legitimately agitating. I could've kinda lived with spectacular getting replaced if the follow up was at least decent. But the gap between the quality in USM and TSM is massive, and USM's interpretation of Peter Peter is just pathetic. I would literally rather watch TEEN titans Go since it's somehow not as agitating.
@@maxargentum5001 i only saw the bit of it that bled into Avengers Assemble and I was sitting there watching spider-man break the fourth wall thinking "wait was this a deadpool show and nobody thought to correct them or what"
@@edfreak9001 basically yes. Even more dumb is Deadpool is in the series himself, but massively toned down to be kid friendly. Okay first off Deadpool should NEVER be kid friendly. Second he's voiced by the same actor who did Ron in Kim Possible and he does the exact same voice for both. Having both a fourth wall breaking Spider-Man and a kid friendly Deadpool means we literally have 2 of the exact same character, but one is more obnoxious.
On very important note, the Peter/Eddie dynamic was not original. It is just one more element taken from the Ultimate universe comics. There's so many parallels that make it clear that the writters were inimate with that comic run...
I love how a lot of more modern spidey series' use our knowledge of previous adaptations against us, I remember watching Ultimate and the multiple occurances where I didn't know if they were doing something different or subverting expectations, just like with the green goblin in Spectacular.
Spectacular Spider-Man was my first Spidey show, and its soooo great. Thanks to this show Im a fan of the comics and have read alot of the classic 60s and 80s stuff. Alot of the drama and life lessons ring true to the spirit of the character, and I'm so upset that it was cut short. But atleast it happened, right?
I wonder how they would have added Carnage into this show. Since Carnage, and Cletus, are… not exactly characters that can fit in a kids show with some changes from their comic counterparts. Would they have toned them down? Or make Cletus a high schooler like Eddie?
@@sweetandsaltyminx7310 yeah like, for me, what makes Carnage is Cletus’s Character and Personality. So I’d have hoped they wouldn’t change with that much.
Watched the series on a certain website that will go unnamed but it was a great experience getting to watch it. Made me grow even more appreciation for the character and his own world in villains and characters. I see how Spider Man is probably the most popular superhero out there
Honestly it may be the greatest iteration of Spider-Man EVER. i loved this show beyond how words could describe. One of my core memories is going to toys R us with my mother and little brother and seeing the spectacular toys and seeing they had some up hidden behind where they had the logo’s of the different company so I jumped in the cart and grabbed both a normal red and blue and black spidey and also a bunch of others that day. This show is just so so amazing man. Seeing him in across the Spiderverse made me feel extremely happy & nostalgic. this is an amazing video dude great work, gained a new subscriber.
I recently rewatched this show on netflix after being ecstatic that they added it to their repertuar. I think the main thing I learned about this show after my rewatch of the series is that it is so much more that the average "kid show" (quotes implied because I detest the idea that a piece of creative media needs to be restricted and confined to a demographic). When spectacular spider man initially came out, I had no way of finding or watching the actual show, left to only pick up the scraps of bits and pieces of episodes from reruns or on demand programs. So when I finally was afforded the opportunity to watch the show in it's chronological entirety, I was amazed by the spectacle and utter brilliance of this show. This show has amazing characters accented and elevated by an interesting story, plot, and overall narrative. It has dynamic characters who change, evolve and grow into better or worse people by the end of the series. It simultaneously alters and preserves so many of the classic and beloved spider man trops without alienating a new audience who may not be as well versed as avid decade long comic book fans who have adored and loved this series since its inception. I know personally that this series was the one that got me interested in so much of the spider man universe. The symbiote saga, relatively unknown villains like the vulture, shocker, and kraven, and so much more of the spiderman mythos that was revealed and shown to me by this wonderful show. I think the main reason why this show has truly had such a large and lasting impact on me, is because it was a truly fantastic show. It never felt cheap, campy, or like it was only built to sell toys to unsuspecting kids. It never felt formulaic or repetitive in it's plot or narrative. It always felt like the show writers were completely focused on weaving a fascinating and intriguing narrative that either had you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. And finally, it just felt like it was loved and cared about by the writers and fanbase. I think what a lot of "kid shows" (again quotes implied for reasons above) are missing today is actual real life lessons and gritty reality. I'm not saying that every show meant for a younger audience needs to steep and delve itself so far into reality as the spectacular spider man did, but i'm also not denying that they should look at this show for inspiration. The peter parker we see in this adaptation is a peter that not only has to fight the very real life and physical threats of super villains and crime syndicates, but also the less physical and more abstract ideas of mental trauma, teenage drama, bills, work loads, life balance, and so so so much more. We, as the viewers, are afforded a unique third person perspective on these issues. We get to see every punch given, every kick given, and every single problem peter has to overcome in order to live some semblance of a normal life. Throughout it all, through the homework, the tutoring, the long nights patrolling, the bruises, the blisters, the pain, the suffering, spider man perseveres. Peter loses friends, loved ones, and in the case of the symbiote, he almost loses himself and yet he perseveres throughout it all. This show teaches it's viewers that even in our darkest moments, when our back is to the wall and it feels as if the whole world is about to collapse around you, that you can choose to rise in spite of it, to strive for something more, to choose to stand tall in spite of adversity and setback, to choose to put the betterment of others before your own, to choose to be a hero. After all isn't a hero just a morally righteous person who is willing to help those who need helping, and protect those who can't protect themselves? This show teaches us all that we can all be heroes in our own way, by preaching determination, steadfast resolve, and incorruptible perseverance in the face of adversity. Spectacular spider man is a fantastic story full of great storytelling, dynamic characters, and a well thought out narrative. I guess in the end what i'm trying to say is go watch this show on whatever platform you can, it is the panicle of what not only shows, but creative content should strive to be, and no matter if your an aspiring writer, or someone who is just looking for something fun to watch, we can all take something away from and learn from the fantastic show known as, The Spectacular Spider-Man. Thanks for reading.
This was the first cancelation that broke me as a kid. Yeah other spiderman cartoons are great. Like I even like ultimate spider. But Spectacular is just the GOAT.
To be honest the real tragedy is Spectacular was gonna be canceled whether Disney bought Marvel or not Kids WB was the last cartoon block standing in 2008 and Toonami was cancelled the same year Spectacular came out so it had no network willing to take it considering how bad Cartoon Network treated Fantastic Four World's Greatest Heroes by messing with when the episodes came out to the point Nickelodeon was the one to air the rest of that series that's saying a lot and this was back in 2006 2007 two or one year before Spectacular. And to be honest Marvel's Spider-Man 2017 isn't universally hated as many people believe or want to believe it's more faithful to the source than Ultimate and the fact it's rated 86% on Rotten Tomatoes over Ultimate's 56% kinda says it all.
Just watched this show recently without knowing it got cancelled and when I reached the ending it really hurt because it was such a good show but it was such an unsatisfying place to leave the show off, I hope it gets revived at some point
The did the best Justice with Spidey’s three most iconic foes. Goblin, Venom, but the best was still how they developed Doc Ock, and it was fun to see them grow into the Master Planner we all know today.
I really love what they did which the symbiote courupting Pete. Like the symbiote telling him to do things IN HIS OWN VOICE! That's so creepy and unnerving, not being able to thrust your own thoughts like that, plus it makes more sense then the symbiote talking in some dark sinister voice, cus like if you heard a voice line that in your head you immediately freak out.
I loved the Flash Thompson of this show. To me that is a quintessential character who has never been done justice in live action. Nothing against Joe manganiello but the original Spider-Man trilogys Flash was a neanderthal. Chris Zylka was amazing in the amazing spiderman, but he wasnt given enough of a chance with the franchise being killed off. The MCU doesn't even have a Flash Thompson. That being said, this is by far my favourite iteration of the character. He's mean to Peter but also gives him a reality check when getting out of line. Loves Spiderman despite not being the nicest of people. He's fantastic
@@madnessarcade7447 He's just so far removed from his source in a way that I personally can't enjoy, and so I can't really acknowledge him as Eugene Thompson.
Ive real enjoyed watching this version and the amazing spiderman one as well. The colors and vibes really are immaculate. It's sad how many corps cut shows short for such shortsighted nonsense like how they did young justice or teen titans. The monopoly on creation is really killing it...I hope things get better. 🍀🍀🍀
@@jahdorose8659 but honestly season 3 was trash and the 4th being mildly better and the show should've just stayed with season 1 and 2 so it wouldn't have been tainted
I think part of why the Norman reveal works so well is that it plays on audiences expectations for his...parental approach. Everyone knows Norman is the Green Goblin from adaptations, but unless you where reading comics at the time, you'd probably think that he's a neglectful or harsh, but ultimately loving father. The initial reveal is also Norman's "Awww, he really does care" moment, which we've come to expect. I've even seen old posts from the show's airing predicting the real reveal pretty closely, and one of the common counteraguments was the idea that they just wouldn't go there. Child abuse wasn't untouched in children's tv at the time but tended to be kept out of focus, very special episode, or dark comedy, but rarely as an integral plot point. Even when it was, and still to this day where it's more common, there tends to be a lense of fantasy or a historical angle to create some distance while still being recognisable. Spectacular does blur the line with the framing and Norman spraining Harry's leg being a supervillain plot and the addiction being to a fictional substance, however it's still couched in the very mundane emotional abuse Norman throws at Harry through the series. It's the part of the series that gets harder to watch as I get older. Children's shows have gotten a lot more direct about discussing abuse in recent years, but this is still the one that gets to me on the level of something like Bojack Horseman or Moral Oral.
@@TheAzulmagia I liked they did the Chameleon like they did with the masks and not a device that changes him.
Fr I loved this show! Still have hope 😪
It's still impressive how efficiently this show managed to adapted so much of the Spidey mythos in such a short time. This show is in a special tier.
This show is so influential on my personal experience of Spider-Man. Whenever I go to a library and pick up a Spider-Man comic book, I hear Josh Keaton's voice in my head when I read Peter's lines. It just feels like they pulled him out of the comics and placed him in this show.
This will always be my favourite spiderman show
You may even call the tier it's in, spectacular.
It’s in Spectacular tier
Exactly
Weisman tends to go against established stories a lot and most of the time they work for the better

@@ahmadkhalaf8952 the mcu version of j j Jamson is evil
@@yacineww5804 No he isn’t. Jonah has done much worse in the comics. Funded Scorpion, funded spider slayers, and even controlled the spider slayers
He gave Peter an exclusive deal to photograph Spider-Man only for the Bugle so he could smear his name every chance he got.
ah
Kind of gives you some added insight for why J.J. was so excited for him to become Colonel Jupiter at first. Of course there's the obvious aspect of having a superhero on the inside to take down Spider-Man, but I think J.J. really just wanted his son to get the proper recognition he deserves, while topping Spider-Man at the same time.
I honestly found Eddy's turn for revenge believable because even though he knew Peter was Spirder-man he still had SO much anger towards Peter and the symbiote focused on that and enhanced it. Making his revenge more believable.
It blinded his judgement.
you spelled his name wrong

Disney bought the Spider-man tv rights I think.
@@wyattlundrigan4740 I'd say the spiderman 2018 game does a pretty good job too (although it's a game so the story is limited by length). If you got a Playstation and haven't played it yet then I highly recommend you play it asap.

It's pretty clear that they had planned to bring in Carnage because Cletus Kasady is in Season 2, he's in Otto's therapy group. They even say his name out loud, which feels like a real hint.
This show still has my favorite defeat of the Symbiote, with Peter outplaying it by actually being really smart about what it wants, and how it could exploit it, while also giving us a really great piece of dialogue:
"That's what it wants, right? A reunion with its first love..."
"The symbiote's found a better partner in me!"
"'Me'? Not _'us'?"_
Honestly, since they brought Spectacular Spiderman back in the spiderverse movie, even for just a quick cameo, theres definitely some hope for a possible continuation of the show
Hopefully 🥺
That movie opened the doors to many possibilities.
I for one hope that they'll finally give the Spidey and Peter from The Animated Series real closure in finding Mary Jane.
It has been irking me for almost 30 years...
God I hope so
That real life version of the prowler when Miles was looking at the anomalies really got me thinking, that was the same Aaron Davis that was interrogated in Spiderman Homecoming. Can't wait to see what's next for Tom's spiderman.

I always loved the portrayal of Mary Jane in this cartoon. She’s the closest any of her interpretations gets to the 60s/70s MJ from the comics
Yeah
Now we have
-Overly nice girl stuck in a soap opera (Raimi Trilogy)
-Bland, edgy and sassy teenager (Watts Trilogy)
-Literally Lois Lane (Spider-Man Ps4/Ps5, also the Ultimate universe whether it's the Comics or the TV show)
And all of these suck

Mary Jane was more of a friend to peter than a potential love interest in this cartoon
Spot on
I feel like this is one of the best things about having Peter and Eddie be childhood friends. It adds so many layers to Eddie and Venom.
Why is that an issue. Peter Parker is a flawed character it’s at his core
My hope is that now that it's on Disney+, they'll see how much it is outperforming every other Spider-man show, they might try to revive the show.
yeah me too

She knows his secret, like Captain Stacy
Edit: turns out creators didnt talk about it on a podcast my bad 🤦♂️

It's not gonna happen sadly. The main reason this show got canceled was because the TV show rights went back to Marvel.

Will forever be sad that this show was cancelled and I have my fingers crossed that Greg and Victor would revisit the show when they find the time and rights become less of a minefield

Good grab that blu-ray is expensive now
Stop stealing Bojack jokes
I agree, giving Gwen a makeover was a bit shallow and probably the weakest aspect of the show. Just having it as a one-off thing would've been fine, but keeping her all gussied up for the rest of the show's run kinda rubbed me the wrong way.
And I'm not just saying that because I think nerd-girl Gwen is the best version of her character. I love a relationship where the two characters are on equal footing.
realistically if you found out you could look like that, you would probably start doing it more often
@@mxm9777 IDK man I think Gwen was cuter before she got the "glow up" personally, I never saw it as this objectively improvement like the show did.
I don't think the glow up is really that big a deal. She's a nerd, she's a teenager, and while not a "good" message it's very human to have her change her look almost permanently and actually have her looks have semi-gravitas. It's not a Hermione Granger One and Done hot moment.
@@darknessknows1235 I don’t think its a big deal either, its just one flaw among a lot of amazing.

The friendship between Eddie & Peter is definitely a concept that comes from the Ultimate comics, and I genuinely love that dynamic. Especially in this series
Who's happy that this series is now on NETFLIX?

I really like how the show handled the black costume. It started very much a black version of the spiderman suit, a homage to Spider-man3 movie perhaps? And the suit itself gradually transforms into the more simpler black suit design that we know from the comics.
Yep, this show was a mix of almost everything of back then (the Amazing and Ultimate comics, and the Raimi trilogy).
how how is the venom symbiote being a darkly colored suit a reference to the rami film's it's always looked like that
This show is one of the few animated productions where Stan lee was actually involved in the production, he was playing a big part in making the series and its the reason why its just so well made
This was indeed my favorite Spiderman show.
We should make a petition for disney to continue this show. Who's with me

@@NotTheEpicnt yeah, def.
Saw that this masterpiece was on Netflix recently so wanted to see everyone else’s opinion on it
This is one of the best interpretations of the Spider-Man ever and is underrated and deserved an ending plus it was has some of the best quips and jokes(flash was also one my favorite character by the end of the end of the show)
Fr Flash grew from the typical bully to a respectful guy that grew a pair and seems like a great friend
I will always maintain that this version of Spidey will always be the funniest outside of the comics IMO
@@mightyfilm Alright. Yeah, it was a messy time for cartoons.
Jesus reading what you have to said made me think what a messy affair this whole TV rights thing is 🥴
I love how this show combines different comic origins for the villains. Eddie being Peters childhood friend and working together as scientist is from the ultimate comics but his visual look and venom design are from 616
This variation of spider man was seen in the newest Across the Spider-Verse poster, and he's in the front row with all the important characters of the movie so hopefully his appearance in the movie will give him the popularity boost needed to get him renewed for a new season
seeing spectacular spiderman in the ATSV was such a joy...
yeah, Kraven going all lion in this show was a misstep I think. the whole point of Kraven's character is he wants to prove he can beat Spider-Man shearly with his skill and wit as a hunter. that's kind of ruined when he resorts to gaining superpowers
According to Greg weisman him gaining lion powers would have become relevant later

A reason I stopped supporting anything marvel they had some great stuff and now it's just mcu crap

Cletus was actually in the same hospital with doc ock and electro when the other villains showed up
@@elharvey5032 interesting.
I'd assume they'd have him just be "Crazy". Maybe hint at other stuff but never outright say it.

I don’t know how, but they somehow made FLASH THOMPSON my favourite character in the whole show!
Exactly!

Hobbie brown, damn how did I never connect that?
This has convinced me to give this show a shot. I'd love to hear your thoughts on The Great North show. I love it, personally.
Plz do, its a great show with a great balance of action and drama
